It’s a This Is Us reunion! Jon Huertas, who starred on the NBC drama with Justin Hartley, directed the April 21 episode of Tracker, which is already a hit for CBS (and is coming back for a second season). “It was a great episode. It really came together really well. We worked really hard on it, so I’m proud of it,” Huertas tells TV Insider. “It’s always great to work with Justin.” In the episode, “Aurora,” Colter (Hartley) searches for a missing girl who disappeared three years ago and is presumed dead. Her father shows him a newspaper photo from a recent county fair he’s convinced is her, and Colter’s search leads him into the world of amateur ghost hunting and paranormal activity. Below, Huertas talks about reuniting with Hartley, directing this episode, and more. Talk about reuniting with Justin and directing him again outside of This Is Us.

This Is Us hasn’t even been off the air for two years, but that doesn’t mean that fans wouldn’t love to see the Pearson family—extended, too—back on their screens in some form or another. At least for now, though, it really does sound like the only type of reunion to come is the This Was Us rewatch podcast. “I don’t think [a revival or spinoff] will happen for This Is Us,” Jon Huertas, who played Miguel and directed two episodes, tells TV Insider. “This story was super personal to Dan Fogelman and he told the story the way he wanted to tell it and ended it the way he wanted to end it. And I think it might do a disservice to the show if someone other than Dan especially tried to put something together. But I think that the story has been told, and I can’t...

Editor’s note: One in a series of stories marking the 100th day of the WGA strike.
On day one of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, scribes put their pencils down and hit the pavement at every major studio in Los Angeles. It was May 2 and many were wearing sweaters. Today, 100 days later, they remain as resolute as they began only a little more suntanned as the country faces one of its warmest summers to date.
Notwithstanding the climate, the writers have been challenged in ways they couldn’t have imagined and yet, they keep showing up on the lines. Deadline spoke to multiple regulars, captains and coordinators from various lots as well as WGA leadership.

It’s Day 13 of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Day 86 of the WGA strike.
Actor Adam Faison took a break from marching outside Disney in Burbank on Wednesday to speak with Deadline, calling artificial intelligence one of his primary concerns for the future of his profession and the industry at large.
His trepidation was informed by an unnerving encounter with the technology that he had within the past year, before the launch of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and perhaps before AI was even breaking so prevalently into the public discourse. The project on which he was forced to grapple with AI was out of the “gaming world,” he said, and called for body scanning.
“Without going into too much detail, there was a recent situation where I was in negotiations with a company and they were very, very ornery and very trepidatious about even talking about AI,” said Faison, whose...

It’s Day 112 of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Day 84 of the WGA strike.
On a Monday that saw Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez join the picket lines in front of Warner Bros Discovery in New York, a mother and son became strike demonstrators Monday as both actors and writers picketed in front of Paramount in Los Angeles.
The pair — Carol, in town from Vermont to visit her son Graham, who attends USC — arrived at the Melrose Avenue lot to take the studio’s guided tour. It’s almost impossible for Brian Cox to be in a bad movie because, well, he’s giving a Brian Cox performance every time. Simply put, Cox is the saving grace of his latest feature, “Prisoner’s Daughter,” a predictable family drama that has heart thanks to grounding performances by Cox, Ernie Hudson, and breakout child star Christopher Convery. The rest, however, leaves a lot to be desired.
However, there are still other pleasures to be found in the final product. Catherine Hardwicke is building out the perfect frothy cinematic universe where “Prisoner’s Daughter” and her recent Toni Collette vehicle “Mafia Mamma” could beautifully coexist — and make for an enjoyable wild ride.
Hardwicke previously spoke with IndieWire’s Kate Erbland about her wide-ranging tastes when it comes to picking scripts, and “Prisoner’s Daughter” is no exception. Written by Mark Bacci and premiering at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, the family drama...

The original “Joe Schmo” premiered in 2003 on Spike TV, with a follow-up in 2004 and then a third season revival in 2013. Created by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, “Joe Schmo” made waves when it first debuted for parodying the then-relatively new and white-hot reality competition genre.
The new “Joe Schmo” will be hosted by Cat Deeley (“So You Think You Can Dance”) and once again center on a show-within-a-show in which one non-acting civilian thinks he’s competing on a reality series — when he’s actually in a scripted environment surrounded by improv comedians.

"I know none of this will make up for who I was or what I did... But let me be your father – for once..." Vertical Ent. has revealed an official trailer for a family drama titled Prisoner's Daughter, yet another new film out this year made by director Catherine Hardwicke (she also directed Mafia Mamma - now playing in theaters). Released from prison with terminal cancer, Max tries to reconnect with his estranged daughter and the grandson he’s never known. But when his daughter's abusive, drug-addicted ex-husband reappears, Max’s violent past comes back to haunt them all. The film stars Kate Beckinsale as the titular "prisoner's daughter", plus Brian Cox as the former "prisoner", Christopher Convery, Ernie Hudson, Jon Huertas, and Tyson Ritter. This looks intriguing, but all the dialogue in this trailer seems so cheesy and obvious. Will it be any good? Hard to tell, it might...

Emotions run high as father and daughter reconnect and old wounds open. Boundaries risk getting crossed while Max tries to compensate for the lost time. In Vertical‘s Prisoner’s Daughter trailer, we find Beckinsale and Cox at odds while navigating a damaged relationship. Can Max repair the damage before time runs out?
Catherine Hardwicke directs from a script by Mark Bacci. Prisoner’s Daughter “is a gritty, turbulent thriller that follows Max (Brian Cox) who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and granted a compassionate release after 12 years in prison with the condition he resides with his estranged daughter, Maxine (Kate Beckinsale),” reads the film’s official synopsis. “As a single mom desperate for income to raise her only son,...

Vertical has acquired U.S. rights to Catherine Hardwicke’s “Prisoner’s Daughter,” a thriller with Brian Cox and Kate Beckinsale that premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is about a terminally ill father who is recently released from prison and struggles to connect with his daughter and grandson. Vertical will release “Prisoner’s Daughter” in theaters on June 30, 2023.
It’s a starry collection of talent. Cox is best known for playing the mephistophelean Logan Roy on “Succession,” while Beckinsale has starred in blockbusters and indie films such as “Underworld,” “Love and Friendship” and “Pearl Harbor.” Hardwicke has directed critical and commercial hits like “Twilight” and “Thirteen.”
In “Prisoner’s Daughter,” Cox stars as Max, who is diagnosed with cancer after 12-years in prison. Granted a compassionate release he goes to live with his daughter, Maxine (Beckinsale). She resents her father but is financially strapped and working multiple...

Nathan Fillion has appeared in two beloved ABC shows — Castle and The Rookie. Castle aired for eight seasons on the network and ended in 2016. The Rookie premiered in 2018 and is in the middle of airing its fifth season. And Fillion is dedicated to paying homage to his previous show in his new one. Unfortunately, fans shouldn’t anticipate one Castle star to appear in The Rookie.

One of the main reasons Castle was so popular during its heyday was because of the “will they/won’t they” slow-burn relationship between Richard Castle and Kate Beckett, played by Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.
Of course, everyone also loved the other side characters, especially Jon Huertas’ Javier Esposito and Seamus Dever’s Kevin Ryan.

Milo Ventimiglia is very appreciative of the hard work of television crews. He’s been lucky enough to work with several exemplary groups of people throughout his small-screen career. However, as the star of ABC’s new drama series The Company You Keep, Milo feels even more confident in his group’s abilities, likely because some of them are long-time friends. Lucy Chen is a badass when she's undercover.
We got more undercover Lucy on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 7, which made for an intense hour. The case managed to bring most of the characters together, which was interesting in and of itself.
And we also got some forward movement with Elijah, and it's not looking pretty.
First, we have to give props to Castle alum, and This is Us veteran Jon Huertas for directing the installment. He did a fantastic job!
But when it comes to the storylines, we'll kick things off with the weakest one: Nolan and Bailey's plotline about her feeling uncentered in his home was so inconsequential it's barely worth mentioning.
It was one of those things where one didn't even realize that she hadn't fully moved into Nolan's place or didn't feel like it was hers yet.
Whether the hour was exploring this to give us more domestic,...
