Shannon Sharpe arrives promptly at noon at the South Beverly Grill, a short drive from his home in Holmby Hills. He is 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, a wall of muscle sheathed in black athleisure wear. He slides into his favorite booth, orders a cranberry ginger ale and offers a hello — friendly but guarded — to an awaiting journalist.
It’s usually Sharpe asking the questions — whether on his blockbuster podcasts Club Shay Shay (3.17 million YouTube subscribers) and Nightcap (1.26 million subscribers) or on ESPN’s First Take, where through the NFL season he spars good-naturedly with host Stephen A. Smith.
Sharpe, who turns 56 on June 26, shot to fame as a tight end for the Denver Broncos. He’s an NFL Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champ. But his other calling, it turns out, is talking — about sports, yes, but about many other things, too, from social issues to politics to celebrity gossip.

Ego Nwodim just completed her sixth season as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” so what is it that keeps her coming back year after year to NBC’s sketch comedy series? “For me, what is so special about the show is the unpredictability of every week … and that keeps the excitement and the fun alive,” she tells us. “You can never really find yourself in a routine or rut, because it resets every single week, and that’s really special about the show. I don’t know that there are many other jobs like that, certainly not as a performer in the same way.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Season 49 of “SNL” wrapped up on May 18, and that massive number “somehow feels like the end of something, with 50 coming,” Nwodim explains. “I think we were very aware throughout the season, especially once we got the past the December mark,...

Netflix released over a dozen stand-up specials in the second half of last year and Matt Rife was the most-watched.
Matt Rife: Natural Selection, which was released in November, was watched for 13.5M hours. This was above specials from the likes of Shane Gillis, Tom Segura and Mike Birbiglia as well as Ricky Gervais, Trevor Noah and Dave Chappelle (although the latter three launched theirs very late in December).
On the back of that special, Rife has been signed up for two further specials and is now developing a sitcom at the streamer.
Netflix has dominated the stand-up scene for some time now and recently launched the second iteration of its Netflix Is A Joke festival, where it had many of the biggest names in comedy across LA for two weeks.
The streamer is starting to find itself with some competition after Hulu announced it was going to compete with the rival streamer for specials.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Hall of Fame player-turned-media-personality Shannon Sharpe talked about the league’s embrace of YouTube and Sharpe’s experience as a creator.
The pair appeared onstage at YouTube’s Brandcast event for advertisers in New York.
Goodell said the 2023 season was “fantastic” for a number of reasons, but “the best thing was the launch of Yt. It was flawless … they brought our game to the fans in a fresh way.”
YouTube took over the rights to Sunday Ticket last year after it had been exclusive to DirecTV for 29 years, paying a reported $14 billion in the deal. The tech giant incorporated product innovations like Multiview and also integrated creators into behind-the-scenes programming by its media arm.

Tom Brady is the Greatest Of … Netflix’s TV chart.
The NFL star took a foray into live comedy alongside some standup legends for The Roast of Tom Brady. In its first full week after airing live on Netflix, the special racked up 13.8M views, nabbing the top spot among TV.
However, Netflix viewers must really love to honor Mother’s Day, Brooke Shields’ new comedy Mother of the Bride was the top title of the week — just like last year when Jennifer Lopez took over Netflix during the same weekend with her film The Mother.

Netflix’s Roast of Tom Brady got loads of press coverage (including several stories on this very website), but a different live special from the streamer’s Netflix Is a Joke festival racked up more views over the weekend.
Katt Williams: Woke Foke, which streamed live on Saturday, May 4, earned 4 million views (determined by total viewing time divided by running time) worldwide, according to Netflix’s internal measurement for April 29-May 5. That’s double the 2 million for the Brady roast, albeit with an extra day for users to watch as the roast streamed Sunday evening. The roast had more total viewing time at 6.2 million hours, to 4.1 million hours for Williams’ special — but it was also almost three times as long as Woke Foke.
That both specials made the global top 10, however, is testament to Netflix’s growing capacity to host live events. The streamer’s first live stand-up special,...

The 1998 “Seinfeld” finale drew 76.3 million viewers to NBC, which made it the fourth-most-watched series finale in TV history. Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted” opening weekend on Netflix was not that, but it was number 1 on Netflix in its debut, notching 7.1 million views on 11.3 million hours viewed.
The (mostly fiction) comedy film about the invention of the Pop-Tart wasn’t quite a hit with critics (to say the least), but it so far has popped with audiences, probably in part because of the obscene amount of press Seinfeld did leading up to its release.
“Unfrosted” beat out Sony rom-com “Anyone But You” in views, but not hours viewed — the Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney flick is eight minutes longer than Seinfeld’s. The Kellogg’s triumph also unseated Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” which is now on the English Films Top 10 List for its third straight week. The...

Katt Williams, never afraid of being bold, declared maybe his boldest mission yet in Katt Williams: Woke Foke. “I don’t just tell Black secrets,” he warned the crowd at one point during his new Netflix comedy special, which streamed live on May 4 as part of Netflix is a Joke Fest. “I tell white secrets, too. ’Cause we’re all family.”
He meant it. The King of Underground Comedy shared his sharp, pointed observations and lessons in his trademark rapid-fire style. Arriving on stage at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, wearing a custom Woke Foke medallion necklace, he went after just about everyone and everything: why being “woke” itself is hardly bad, (toxic) masculinity, the “Illuminati,” Trump, Biden, Ron DeSantis, Nick Cannon, Jamie Foxx, Oprah, Ozempic — naming names and (literally) showing pictures, at least when he didn’t look desperate to catch a breath between all the curveball punchlines.

Katt Williams might be one of Hollywood’s most controversial stand-up comedians, but he’s got a big heart and love for his kids. The American stand-up comic and actor has earned a reputation for calling out Hollywood’s elites and the establishment. Although this has increased his popularity among old and new audiences, it has also made him one of the most hated people in Hollywood. The year 2024 began with Katt Williams dropping one of his biggest and most controversial revelations about several famous entertainers. Hours after his interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay weekly podcast aired, it “broke the

Jk Rowling Shares The Conversation She Had With Late Actor Alan Rickman ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Acclaimed author Jk Rowling recently shared a conversation she had with late actor Alan Rickman, who played Professor Severus Snape in all eight Harry Potter movies. While answering fan questions about her writing process, Jk Rowling told readers how she explained the character’s complex struggles to the late actor after he reached out to her for help in gaining insight into his complicated role in Harry’s life.
Alan Rickman played Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies, where he was often seen blurring the line between Harry’s tormentor and sometimes his fierce protector. Throughout the film, Snape, who visibly dislikes Harry, struggles with his complex emotions toward him. While he took particular pleasure in tormenting Harry, he often protected him from harm, including saving him from Voldemort and his followers.

Kate Middleton Will Soon Return To Royal Duties ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Kate Middleton, who has been absent from the public eye since earlier this year, is reportedly ready to return to the spotlight, a source told InTouch Weekly. The Duchess of Whales, who had taken a break from Royal duties amid her cancer diagnosis, is reportedly responding well to chemotherapy. A source claims that after the long absence, Kate plans her comeback but will only do so when a few details are ironed out.
Recently, fashion designer and close friend of the duchess, Amaia Arrieta, told the Telegraph that the Royal couple are “going through hell” amid Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. Despite the dire prognosis, a source told InTouch the chemotherapy is seemingly going well, saying, “She’s nearing the end of her treatment, and the doctors believe she’s responding positively.”

Comedian Katt Williams made a name for himself bringing laughter to millions. But there’s a difference between the Katt Williams on stage, and the Katt Williams in real life. And the two personas don’t always agree with each other.
Katt Williams explained the difference between his real self and his on-screen persona Katt Williams |Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
What has attracted many to Williams’ stand-up shows is the honesty behind them. And because of that honesty, it might be easy for audiences to believe they’re seeing the real Katt Williams when he’s performing.
After all, there are some comedians who dial up their real personalities when performing for a crowd. But when Vulture once asked the Emmy winner how much of his real self is on stage, Williams asserted there were no traces of his true persona in his acts.
“Those are extreme opposites,” Williams said of his off and on-screen presence.

Comedian Katt Williams stirred up a lot of controversy on Club Shay Shay, airing his grievances out on a few veteran comics. Dave Chappelle, however, disagreed with the way Williams called out his contemporaries. And judging by Williams’ recent comments, that may be a topic neither of them will ever see eye-to-eye on.
What Katt Williams had to say about Dave Chappelle’s comments Dave Chappelle | Shannon Finney/Getty Images
Williams went on record to address a handful of comedians he felt slighted him in some way. Two kings of comedy even caught a stray when Williams admonished Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer for stealing his material.
But not everyone thought Williams’ statements were justified. Not too long after Williams’ Club Shay Shay appearance, Chappelle shared his feelings on Williams’ internet-breaking interview during a private standup. Chappelle felt Williams might’ve done more harm than good for comedy with his takes.

Katt Williams is, by his own admission, a wildly prolific comedian. He claims to hold the record for most recorded and distributed comedy specials, with 11 under his belt. His latest, Katt Williams: World War III, finds the actor and comedian cracking wise on misinformation, chicken wings and all manner of things too blue to mention here.

Three other Williams specials are on Netflix, and he appears in a couple of other choice projects available to stream, as well. Here’s our guide to what to watch next if you loved World War III....

As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

Actor and rapper Ice Cube went in a fresh direction with his third Friday movie, After Next. It was the first holiday-themed Friday film, which was an inspired decision on Ice Cube’s part.

The Friday franchise was a more lighthearted departure from the usual ‘hood’ movies Ice Cube was familiar with. In an interview with CNN, he shared that one of his main motivations for penning Friday was to offer a different perspective on his roots.
“I knew things were bad in my neighborhood, but I didn’t feel like these movies feel at the end … When I was growing up, I didn’t feel this depressed,” he said.
Friday After Next would continue the humor that the franchise was mostly known for. But unlike the other two Friday features, the second sequel would revolve around Christmas.

Dave Chappelle and Katt Williams rank among the most talented standup comedians of African-American extraction. Everyone is still talking about Katt Williams’ interview on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, including Saturday Night Live.
The NBC sketch show poked fun at the interview, providing an eight-hour “extended cut” with Ego Nwodim posing as the comedian.
“Three things are true about me. I am 5’3, I have never told a lie, and I am 6’3,” she (as Williams) tells Devon Walker’s Sharpe.
Giving a nod to Williams’ ongoing feud with Kevin Hart, which he reignited during the real podcast interview, Nwodim joked: “Look, Hollywood made Kevin Hart. Everyone knows Kevin Hart was made in the same factory where they make Teddy Grahams.”
Pushing back on skepticism from Walker, she questioned, “Then why the hell he smell like cinnamon?”
Nwodim’s version of Williams also took a swing at former President Obama, wondering why his name has “all vowels in it,” and insisting he wrote Obama’s slogan “Yes We Can.

In early January, comedian Katt Williams went on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast and took aim at Cedric the Entertainer for stealing “my very best joke.” The bit in question — which involved a pantomime of driving with music blasting — was first performed by Katt in a 1998 appearance on ComicView, then reproduced by Cedric (according to Katt) for his set in Spike Lee’s The Original Kings of Comedy. Cedric called the accusations “revisionist history” on Instagram.
We’ve been down this road many times before. For much of the 20th century, joke stealing was an open secret. “All comedians steal from all comedians,” the legend Stan Laurel once mused. Some of the biggest names in comedy did it. Milton Berle was so blatant in his joke stealing that he earned the nickname “The Thief of Bad Gags.” Richard Pryor admitted on The Tonight Show that he ripped off his comedy idols,...

Listening to three hours of Katt Williams can’t be easy, but some sound bites from a recent interview have made the waves, triggering a response from his targets, including Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and Cedric the Entertainer.
In Katt Williams’ viral interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the comedian targeted the aforementioned comedians with various claims. The most damning is that Williams maintains that his Friday After Next character, Money Mike (a pimp…), was originally supposed to be raped, which he insisted on cutting. Ice Cube, who produced, wrote and starred in the movie, had a different recollection, saying Williams didn’t have as much influence as he remembered. “We do what we feel…and if it was a rape scene it woulda been in the movie. There was no reason not to shoot it. But that’s not my style. I don’t even like that kind of sh*t in movies.

Comedian Katt Williams recently stirred up some controversy after airing his grievances on the podcast Club Shay Shay. Williams briefly touched on his verbal exchange with Wanda Smith. The two have had different perspectives regarding Smith’s infamous conversation with Williams. But the former radio host felt her co-worker and boss at the time should’ve come to her rescue.

Williams doesn’t hold himself back when it comes to clashing with other comedians. In 2018, he famously engaged in a heated discussion with Wanda Smith, who was the host of the Atlanta radio show Frank and Wanda in the Morning for two decades. After spending years as the voice for the city, Smith was ousted following her verbal altercation with Williams. Smith’s firing might not have been a direct result of the roast, however,...

In a nine-minute video posted to social media, Ice Cube has responded to Katt Williams’ viral Club Shay Shay YouTube show interview, in which he attacked Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, and discussed a potential bathroom rape scene in the Ice Cube film, Friday After Next, among other topics.

“It’s been over 20 years since the movie came out, and people have different perspectives,” Ice Cube began in the video about Friday After Next.

Ice Cube is responding to comments made by comedian, writer and actor Katt Williams about the pay, casting and an alleged rape scene in the Friday franchise.
The rapper and producer took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Friday to address several statements made during Williams’ recent interview on former NFL star Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. In a nine-minute video, Ice Cube said he had “a lot of love for Katt,” who “spoke up for me a lot,” but he “wanted to be clear to clarify some things.”
That includes denying he would film a rape scene after Williams told Sharpe that he had pushed for the removal of a sexual assault sequence from Friday After Next. “I would never shoot a rape scene in a movie, especially Friday, where you actually see this happening on camera. That ain’t my style,” Ice Cube said.
