Two trials play out in the new Apple TV+ adaptation of lawyer-novelist Scott Turow’s 1988 bestselling legal thriller, Presumed Innocent: the criminal case against a Chicago prosecutor charged with murdering a colleague, and the nightmare at home that the murder trial visits on the family of the accused.
Those parallel ordeals stood out for actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who stars in the eight-episode limited series that premieres on Wednesday and runs through July 24. At Sunday’s premiere of Presumed Innocent at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, Gyllenhaal spoke in a panel discussion with showrunner and writer David E. Kelley and two directors, Anne Sewitsky and Gregg Yaitanes, about “the trial of the family and the actual trial” and “the juxtaposition between the two.”
“As brilliant as the writing and the acting is in the courtroom scenes, I really think it becomes like its own courtroom, too, in the house,...

Lucy Boynton made a fleeting cameo in Barbie, but it turns out that her role was initially supposed to be larger.
The 30-year-old actress popped up in Weird Barbie’s house playing Proust Barbie, a reference to the acclaimed author.
In a new interview, Lucy reflected on her experience filming the hot pink masterpiece and explained why her Proust Barbie was “only softly in the background.”

“Proust Barbie is only softly in the background of the Barbie film because in the test screenings, it turns out that contemporary audiences don’t know who Proust is, so the joke doesn’t quite land,” Lucy explained while on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, via EW. “[It’s] a little bit of a heartbreaker that we are kind of losing touch with that history, but hopefully this will then be a trigger for people to read up on Marcel Proust.

Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film could have included a bigger appearance from Proust Barbie. According to actress Lucy Boynton, Barbie originally featured more scenes with the character, who was based on French author Marcel Proust.
Boynton, speaking on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, explained that she filmed more than the short scene in which she shows up. “Being on that set was wild,” she said. “Being in the Weird Barbie house was surreal. That’s why you immediately say yes to that opportunity, obviously to be in the environment with those brilliant brains,...

It was a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants reunion in New York City on Friday night.
When SAG-AFTRA hosted a Barbie Q&a with star America Ferrera at the Robin Williams Center, her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn and Blake Lively came out to support and took photos with her at the event.
“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night,” Ferrera wrote in a video of her and her co-stars posing together and greeting each other at the midtown venue. “I love these women with all my heart.”
Lively wrote a lengthy caption on a carousel post that included several photos with the actresses, sharing that she was so happy to be able to celebrate Ferrera, who the Simple Favor star said is the “heart and soul of” Barbie because she is the heart and soul of everything she does.

TikTok has been filled with fans romantically spinning their pets to Taylor Swift’s “August” in recent weeks. Now, Penn Badgley and Kevin Bacon have gotten in on the action, sharing their own version of the “August” TikTok trend.
In the clip, posted by Badgley, the You actor runs through a hallway where he finds Bacon and the pair dramatically twirl around (the face Bacon makes is A+ acting material). The TikTok was likely recorded at the same time Bacon appeared on Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed in an episode that debuted earlier this week.
