Judy Sheindlin’s two court shows at CBS Media Ventures continue to carry on years after the popular TV personality left the CBS fold. Repeats of Judge Judy as well as the Sheindlin-created Hot Bench have been renewed in 95% of the country through the 2025-26 season.
In addition to flagship groups CBS Stations and Fox Stations, Judge Judy was re-upped by stations owned by Sinclair, Nexstar, Scripps, Tegna, Gray, Hearst and Weigel. Hot Bench was renewed by CBS Stations in major markets, as well as stations owned by Sinclair, Nexstar, Tegna, Scripps, Fox Stations, Gray and Weigel.
Together, Judge Judy and Hot Bench, the #1 and #2 syndicated court shows, account for 67% of all minutes watched in the nationally syndicated court genre, CBS Media Ventures said.

“Judge Judy” has extended her reign in daytime as CBS Media Ventures has renewed its package of vintage “Judge Judy” episodes and the first-run court show “Hot Bench.”
Both daytime strips have been renewed through the end of the 2025-26 season on TV stations covering 95% of U.S. TV households. “Judge Judy” has been a daytime syndication stalwart since 1996 and that hasn’t changed even after she stopped producing new episodes of the series in 2021, after the show logged its 25th year. “Judge Judy” reruns at present average about 6 million viewers a week and the show still commands top daytime time slots around the country.
“Hot Bench,” which features a panel of judges, is still actively delivering new episodes and is executive produced by “Judge Judy” star Judith Sheindlin. “Judge Judy” has been re-upped by stations owned by CBS, Sinclair, Nexstar, Scripps, Tegna, Gray, Hearst and Weigel. “Hot Bench” has been nabbed by Sinclair,...

The long-reigning queen of syndication is returning to her roots. Judge Judy Sheindlin has inked a multiyear deal to put her streaming effort, Freevee original Judy Justice, on broadcast channels in more than 100 U.S. markets this fall.
This is, of course, a double-dipping scenario. Judy Justice will continue to premiere new episodes on Amazon’s Freevee and Prime Video. The streamer initially launched the show in November 2021 after Sheindlin, long the highest-paid host in TV, ended the 25-year run of the titular Judge Judy. “What a full circle moment,” Sheindlin said in a statement accompanying Wednesday’s news. “This continues to be quite an adventure!”
Judy Justice, which is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Sox Entertainment, is an update to the arbitration-based format. Sheindlin remains front and center but is joined by law clerk Sarah Rose (her granddaughter), court stenographer Whitney Kumar and bailiff Kevin Rasco. As always,...

Judge Judy Sheindlin is heading back to broadcast TV with her Freevee streaming series Justice Judy set to hit airwaves in fall 2024. Amazon MGM Studios and Sox Entertainment have announced a multi-year broadcast syndication deal for the show as of January 24. Sox Entertainment has secured a deal with major broadcast groups including Nexstar, Sunbeam, Cox Media, Weigel, and Mission Broadcasting in more than 100 U.S. broadcast markets where the show will premiere in the fall with an exact date to be set. “What a full circle moment,” said Sheindlin. “This continues to be quite an adventure!” As fans of the TV judge know, Sheindlin entertained viewers for decades with her syndicated series Judge Judy, making the Freevee show’s broadcast debut even more of, as she called it, a full circle moment. Judge Judy Sheindlin is heading back to linear TV — again. Amazon MGM Studios and Sox Entertainment have scored a multi-year broadcast syndication deal with station groups in more than 100 U.S. broadcast markets, including Nexstar, Sunbeam, Cox Media, Weigel and Mission Broadcasting, to premiere repeats of Amazon Freevee’s “Judy Justice” in syndication.
This marks a rarity in TV: A streaming show that has been sold in off-network syndication to local TV stations.
Technically, Sheindlin never left the linear air, as CBS Media Ventures continues to distribute repeats of that long-running hit series in syndication.
The run of “Judy Justice” episodes, which has now produced nearly 250 episodes of Freevee, is set to premiere in the Fall of 2024. According to Amazon, the clearance includes stations in all top 10 markets.

Exclusive: The plan for a Judy Justice foray into broadcast syndication is coming into focus. According to sources, the Amazon Freevee court show, created by and starring Judy Sheindlin, is being taken out to stations by Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, targeting a fall 2024 launch. As Deadline noted in May, when rumors about a potential Judy Justice syndication play first surfaced, the move would make the first original court show on streaming also the first streaming show to sell into broadcast syndication.
About 260 episodes of Judy Justice have streamed on Freevee over the first two seasons. The show, which has been renewed by the Amazon free, ad-supported platform for two more seasons, will have close to 400 episodes available by the time of its planned fall 2024 rollout. None of them have been exposed to linear viewers so Judy Justice would be considered broadcast syndication exclusives.

As Drew Barrymore digs herself into a deeper hole regarding the return of her daytime talk show, lost in the debate is a conversation about the peculiar nature of syndicated TV.
One week ago, Barrymore ignited a firestorm when she announced her talk show would be returning amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In the week since, tensions worsened and Barrymore, normally well-liked for her good-natured personality, intensified that criticism when she doubled down with a second, now-deleted, video message. If anything, her attempt to quell any criticism had the opposite effect.
Barrymore is at the eye of the storm, but she is not the only daytime host returning this upcoming week. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and CBS’ “The Talk,” which is not syndicated, will launch new seasons on Monday, Sept. 18, as well as Sherri Shepherd’s “Sherri” and Karamo Brown’s “Karamo,” though those two shows are not struck or covered by the WGA,...

Judith Susan Sheindlin, professionally known as Judge Judy, gained mainstream recognition in the early 90s after a Los Angeles Times article portrayed her as a tough-talking Judge presiding over Manhattan’s family court. When Sheindlin retired as a family court judge in 1996, she debuted her syndicated court show, Judge Judy, and became a global phenomenon. “Access Hollywood” executive producer Mauren Fitzpatrick will be leaving the show after four years, two individuals with knowledge told TheWrap.
Fitzpatrick began helming the NBC entertainment newsmagazine franchise in 2019, taking over running both the taped show and “Access Live” as longtime EP Rob Silverstein exited after 20 years in the position.
Fitzpatrick’s departure follows the exit of production executive Justin Batey, who served as senior executive in charge of production.
Fitzpatrick and Batey’s reasons for the exiting NBCUniversal are unknown at this time. An NBCU representative declined to comment for this article. We were unable to reach Fitzpatrick and Batey for comment.
First joining the franchise as a consultant in early 2018, Fitzpatrick helped develop several concepts and pilots for NBCUniversal’s syndication division, including overseeing development and pilot production for syndicated series “Judge Jerry” and managing development and production for Oxygen’s “Crime Time” pilot.

Ben Kingsley, who likes to go to extremes, has played his share of frowningly overcivilized repressed geeks and also his share of seething walking-id maniacs. But for all of Kingsley’s dexterous light-and-dark range, it’s still rare to see him take on a character as painfully mild as Milton, the small-town codger he plays in “Jules.”
Milton, who is 78, lives by himself in a handsome dark-shingled house in Boonton, Penn. In the opening scene, he takes one of his long slow walks through town, then stands up at the open-mic forum in front of the Boonton city council, where he suggests changing the town motto from “A great place to call home” to “A great place to refer to as home.” He’s that kind of harmless eccentric fuddy-duddy with maybe a screw or two coming loose. Exclusive: After launching the first original court show on streaming with Judy Justice on Amazon Freevee, Judy Sheindlin could make history again with the first streaming show to sell in broadcast syndication. Former CBS executive Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, which distributes Judy Justice, is actively exploring selling the show’s library — about 260 episodes — to TV stations for fall 2023 or fall 2024, sources tell Deadline. Cable syndication also is a possibility, I hear.

Night Court is back on NBC, but the only reason the new-boot could happen was because people loved the original series. Night Court ran for nine seasons from 1984 – 1992, so if you haven’t seen the original yet, it is streaming on Freevee. If you have exhausted all nine seasons plus the new one, don’t worry. Showbiz Cheat Sheet is here to recommend six other shows you might also like if you liked Night Court.

The verdict is in: Syndicated court staples “Judge Mathis” and “The People’s Court” will both end their run at the end of this season, Variety has confirmed. “Judge Mathis” will wrap after 24 seasons, while this most recent iteration of “The People’s Court” wraps after its 26th season. Season 24 and Season 26, respectively.
Both shows come from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures Productions and are distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. According to insiders, the decision was made due to the declining nature of the daytime syndication landscape. As local TV stations shrink their syndication dollars and the advertising marketplace shrinks for daytime syndication, first-run syndication has become a trickier landscape. At the same time, station groups have been expanding their local news broadcasts, also in a bid to save money.
“Judge Mathis” also comes from And Syndicated Productions, while “The People’s Court” is a Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Production.

After four seasons of captivating and unexpected storytelling, “Atlanta” ended its celebrated run on FX with a much talked-about series finale in November. While the last episode ended with Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) questioning his reality and audiences left wondering if it all was, in fact, just a dream, Brian Tyree Henry told Et it was “a really good conclusion” despite the “mixed” response.
“I think, you know, the conclusion was exactly how it needed to be,” the actor told Et’s Rachel Smith while attending the 32nd Annual Gotham Awards, where he was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Performance for his role in the Apple TV+ film “Causeway”.
In the finale, which could have easily been a regular midseason episode, Darius went on an unexpected journey, with him even rescuing his friends — Earn (Donald Glover), Al (Henry) and Van (Zazie Beetz) — from a precarious situation at a local sushi restaurant. The...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the series finale of “Atlanta,” now available on FX and Hulu.
“Atlanta” finally feels like it’s back … right as it’s ending.
When Donald Glover’s surrealist FX comedy premiered in 2016, its mix of high-stakes and stoner comedy sensibilities earned it instant acclaim. By the second season in 2018, the show was being discussed as one of the greats of television history (though comparisons to “The Sopranos” were mostly started by Glover himself). But after a four-year hiatus due to delays both Covid-related and otherwise, “Atlanta” came back as a different show. Season 3 took place almost entirely in Europe, with several one-off episodes that didn’t feature any of the main characters, and while Season 4 returned to Georgia, Earn (Glover), Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry) and Van (Zazie Beetz) are different people than they were before.

Chrissy Teigen will be donning her judge’s robes once again for Season 3 of “Chrissy’s Court,” returning exclusively to the Roku Channel this fall.
Roku’s greenlight for a third run of the courtroom series, patterned after daytime TV fare like “Judge Judy” and “The People’s Court,” comes after Season 2 scored as the most-watched unscripted Roku original premiere to date. In each episode, Judge Chrissy adjudicates one small-claims case. The plaintiffs, defendants, and disputes are real, and Teigen’s decisions are final and binding. The show features Teigen’s mom, Pepper Thai, as the “bailiff” who maintains order in the court.
The second season of “Chrissy’s Court” drew more unique views than any prior unscripted Roku original launch during its opening weekend on the Roku Channel in the U.S., from June 17-19, 2022. The series also was the Roku Channel’s No. 1 VOD program in the U.

In 2017, Wendy Williams fainted on live television. The daytime gossip queen quickly got up and continued her show, but that episode signaled the beginning of health issues that plagued Williams. At the start of the fall 2021 TV season, the host went on a hiatus due to complications from Graves’ disease but, ultimately, never returned. As a result, “The Wendy Williams Show” is coming to a sudden end next month after a 14-year run.
Williams, who helped redefined the daytime space after conquering radio with her gift for gab, has said in various interviews that she plans to return to her show this fall. But with plans charging ahead for the 2022-23 television season, Williams isn’t reclaiming her purple chair so soon — and even if she did, she’d return to a daytime landscape that has dramatically changed almost overnight.

Wednesday morning’s announcement that IMDb TV will be rebranded as Amazon Freevee went to my Spam folder. That might speak volumes.
Streamer names are easy fodder for derision; Peacock also received brickbats and eyerolls, especially from those who didn’t think it would take flight. Amazon Freevee is a bad name, with a phonetic spelling that’s cutesy and cloying — but it’s also one that makes literal sense in a way that its competitors Tubi and Fubo do not. As a streamer dedicated to free TV, Freevee is free TV.
In some ways, Amazon Freevee is a free alternative to Amazon Prime Video, in much the same way that Paramount-owned Pluto TV serves is a free alternative to Paramount+. (Peacock Free is the free tier for its own SVOD offering.) For those who want Amazon’s top-tier content and free two-day shipping on cat food, pony up for Prime.

The case of “Judy Justice” is an important one for Amazon’s IMDb TV, a relatively small player in the streaming wars with fewer original offerings, especially compared to Amazon’s pay option Prime Video. IMDb TV is using Sheindlin’s wide-reaching personal brand infused into “Judy Justice...

Court will definitely be back in session for Judge Judy Sheindlin. The IMDb TV series Judy Justice has been picked up for a second season.
“I am over the moon and couldn’t be happier with the Judy Justice reception in streaming,” the ex-Manhattan family court judge said Tuesday. “Amazon has been a terrific partner and I look forward to our continued collaboration.”
Season 2 of Judy Justice is expected to premiere in the fall, but check out a look now at that continued collaboration with the new trailer here:
With just more than a month to go before the gavel comes down on the weekday series’ November 2021-debuting first season, the Season 2 pickup is no real surprise. The former Judge Judy star’s move from her longtime CBS syndication bench to the Amazon-owned streamer was a huge get for the burgeoning IMDb TV. Additionally, Judy Justice has proven a winner as all parties concerned hoped.

The “Jeopardy!” TV ratings slipped 2% — from a 6.6 to a 6.5 — in the week super-champion Amy Schneider finally lost. Schneider lost mid-week in the session ending Jan. 30, 2022. She had won 40 games in a row, amassing nearly $1.4 million in winnings.
Schneider lost on the Wednesday show of that week. She was dethroned by Chicago librarian Rhone Talsma.
Going into the final round, Schneider maintained a lead of $10,000 over Talsma. Under the category “Countries of the World,” the clue was “The only nation in the world whose name in English ends in an ‘H,’ it’s also one of the 10 most populous.”
While Talsma correctly answered “Bangladesh,” Schneider did not provide a response, concluding the game and her winning streak.
Schneider’s win streak of 40 games places her second all time, behind only Ken Jennings, who won an insane 74 games in a row. Her total earnings also put her at No. 4 on the all-time...

Prior to her 25-year run with the show Judge Judy, Judge Judy Sheindlin had a three-decade career as a prosecuting attorney and then a judge in New York City. With that show ending its run this past summer, there was no doubt that she’d try to keep her media career going, which she’s done with […]

Judge Judy is still dispensing justice in reruns on daytime TV, but if you want new cases? You’ll have to head to IMDb TV, where the honorable Judith Sheindlin stars in a new courtroom show, Judy Justice, that made its streaming debut on Monday. (IMDb TV is a free-with-ads streaming service available through Amazon Prime Video, but you don’t need to be a Prime subscriber to watch. You can use the dedicated IMDb TV app through Roku or Amazon Fire.)
Despite the change in venue, Monday’s premiere of Judy Justice should be comfortingly familiar to Judge Judy...

If there’s one thing the team behind “Judy Justice,” Judge Judy Sheindlin’s MDb TV courtroom series premiering Nov. 1, want you to know about the series, it is that “it’s a new show and it can’t look the same as the old show.”
This is why executive producer and director Randy Douthit says they hired a new bailiff instead of bringing Petri Hawkins-Byrd over from “Judge Judy.”
Douthit may say it simply, but the transition from working on a 25-year run sow to a new streaming series hasn’t come without major adjustments beyond cast changes.
Although the premise of the show would remain the same — Sheindlin adjudicating small-claims cases — everything from the set to the episode structure to the size of Sheindlin’s cases got a makeover for “Judy Justice.”
The new courtroom incorporates a different wood color, marble columns and monitors that are built into the set,...

Judy Sheindlin is back — and audiences may not have had time to miss her.
In July of this year, “Judge Judy,” Sheindlin’s durable CBS-produced courtroom reality show, wrapped up. Over its 25-year run, the outspoken former family court jurist became a notably high-rated (and famously well-compensated) television personality. Airing in syndication, it was always there to be idly checked out while channel-surfing. But the show, built around Sheindlin’s confrontations with plaintiffs and defendants who annoy her in predictable, familiar manners, had such a reliable formula that no one “Judge Judy” episode stood out as different or special.
Which makes “Judy Justice” a tricky sell. The show, but for its title and some shifts on the margins, effectively serves as the 26th season of “Judge Judy.” But it’s made to exist on streaming, as part of Amazon’s ad-supported IMDb TV platform. It’s hard to imagine...
