Exclusive: UTA has signed comedic multi-hyphenate Cedric The Entertainer and his production company A Bird And A Bear Entertainment for representation in all areas.
A comedian, actor and executive producer, Cedric currently stars opposite Max Greenfield in the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood, which returned for its sixth season in February and has been picked up for a seventh. There, Dave’s excessive friendliness isn’t well-received by everyone, especially his new next-door neighbor, Calvin Butler (Cedric The Entertainer). Cedric won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on the show last year, marking his sixth inclusion in the category.

His production company Tru Narrative has wrapped its first theatrical feature, and he’s written and will make his directorial debut on the short film I Thought You’d Never Ask.
You might recall that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to approve a $13.1 Million settlement for Trulove after it was found he had been framed by police for the 2007 San Francisco murder of a friend. He served six years behind bars before a retrial exonerated him and found two police officers deliberately fabricated evidence failing to disclose exculpatory material.

It’s official: Disney+ and Hulu now live together in one app. Good thing too, since Disney already spent $8.5 billion to buy out Comcast’s stake, with more on the way.
You can bet you’re going to see a whole lot more ads pushing the Disney Bundle, which is the only way to get access to Hulu content via the Disney+ app (the marketing campaign is already in full swing). Disney even changed the color of its logo to a bluish green blend to let you know the app is Disney+ And Hulu merged together.
The idea is that by understanding how much content is available to you without having to swap between apps to find what you want to watch, you’re less likely to cancel. They also want more subscribers. Disney+ as of the end of 2023 has 46.1 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada compared to Hulu’s 49.7 million.

Listening to three hours of Katt Williams can’t be easy, but some sound bites from a recent interview have made the waves, triggering a response from his targets, including Ice Cube, Kevin Hart and Cedric the Entertainer.
In Katt Williams’ viral interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the comedian targeted the aforementioned comedians with various claims. The most damning is that Williams maintains that his Friday After Next character, Money Mike (a pimp…), was originally supposed to be raped, which he insisted on cutting. Ice Cube, who produced, wrote and starred in the movie, had a different recollection, saying Williams didn’t have as much influence as he remembered. “We do what we feel…and if it was a rape scene it woulda been in the movie. There was no reason not to shoot it. But that’s not my style. I don’t even like that kind of sh*t in movies.

Just over a year ago, the leadership of Brillstein Entertainment Partners — a pioneering Hollywood company founded in 1969 by talent broker icon Bernie Brillstein, who managed names like Lorne Michaels, Garry Shandling, Brad Pitt, Nicolas Cage and Mike Myers — started thinking about strategic options for their business, including a sale.
The management and production firm had been led by co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman since 2005, when the duo bought out the stake of executive Brad Grey and Brillstein-Grey dropped the latter name from the shingle. (Notably, the late Grey, who went on to become CEO of Paramount Pictures, took the backend interest in HBO’s The Sopranos, which had been produced by Brillstein, with him.)
Liebman, a New York entertainment attorney who joined Brillstein in 1998, says informal conversations were held in 2022 with Casey Wasserman, whose namesake company — which includes sports talent agents and a booking agency — has been on the acquisition hunt,...

Steve Harvey has had a rollercoaster journey throughout his life and career and is now inspiring others by sharing how he persisted through hard times to find success. Taking to Twitter on Monday, November 7, the long-serving Family Feud host and comedian tweeted, “I didn’t get into comedy until I was 27. I was homeless from 30 to 33. I lived in a car for three years. Don’t give up on your dreams.” In 2020, Harvey revealed in an interview with People that after his first divorce, he lived out of his car and made 50 a week while he pursued comedy. He struggled to make ends meet for three years before eventually landing a gig as host of Showtime at the Apollo, which soon led to The Steve Harvey Show. People see me today, they don’t know where I come from. I tell young cats all the time, the key is you can’t ever give up…...

(Updated with Norman Lear remarks) Just over two months after she wowed the crowd at ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience: All in the Family & Good Times, Ja’net DuBois died suddenly today. She was 74.
As confirmed by her family and those close to the two-time Emmy winner, the seemingly healthy DuBois died early Tuesday in her sleep at her home in Glendale, CA.
She was known for making some of the greatest entrances in sitcom history week after week as neighbor Willona Woods on Good Times, the groundbreaking 1970s sitcom starring Esther Rolle, John Amos, Jimmie Walker and Janet Jackson. Back in December of last year, DuBois joined Walker and co-star Bern Nadette Stanis for an appearance on the latest live retelling of one of Norman Lear’s classic TV shows – and she stole the star-studded show with pure pizzazz.
Good Times wasn’t DuBois’ only connection to Learland.

Steve Harvey’s syndicated daytime talk show “Steve” will end its run in June.
The writing was on the wall for the show last September year when NBC cut a deal with Kelly Clarkson for a talk-variety hour to launch in the fall. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will move into the prime daytime slots occupied on NBC O&Os by Harvey’s show for the past seven seasons.
“Steve” taped its final episode on Thursday. Originals will air through June and the show will remain on the air in reruns through September.
The demise of “Steve” raises the question of whether Harvey’s show was a casualty of animosity between NBCUniversal and Endeavor’s Img Original Content over Img’s takeover of the show two seasons ago.

Steve Harvey, TV personality and multi-hyphenate entertainer/entrepreneur, admitted that he was surprised when NBC announced that a new show hosted by Kelly Clarkson would take over his timeslot on its owned-and-operated stations.
Harvey, a headline speaker at the Variety Entertainment Summit at CES, was asked by interviewer Variety co-editor-in-chief Andrew Wallenstein whether he going to stay with NBCUniversal. Harvey responded, “I thought I was, until they made an announcement a couple weeks ago that they wanted to give Kelly Clarkson the [NBC] O&O networks – that’s my slot.”
Insiders confirmed to Variety that NBCUniversal, which had been distributing Harvey’s daytime yakker, “Steve,” will no longer be doing so after the end of this season. Img, which produces the show, has been shopping the show to various syndication, cable, streaming, and broadcast outlets. A source said Harvey has options on the table, and is confident “Steve” will continue elsewhere after this year.

When Cedric the Entertainer joined “The Neighborhood,” the show immediately changed focus.
Creator Jim Reynolds (“The Big Bang Theory”) originally envisioned the upcoming CBS show, inspired by his family’s experience moving into a historically black neighborhood in Pasadena, as told through the perspective of his small-screen alter ego. Cedric’s arrival as star and executive producer called for a different approach.
Right off the bat, Cedric told Reynolds that he had a strong point of view, and the showrunner welcomed the input. “He gave us the benefit of having an authentic African-American point of view,” Reynolds says.
Now the show operates more as a two hander, the showrunner says.
Cedric plays Calvin Butler, a curmudgeon who casts a baleful eye on the friendly overtures of newcomers Dave Johnson (Max Greenfield) and wife Gemma (Beth Behrs). Calvin is wary that his new Midwestern neighbors will bring gentrification to his L.
