Close on the heels of his performances in the slasher Scream VI and the hit romantic comedy Anyone but You, Dermot Mulroney has just wrapped production on a new horror thriller called Dead and Breakfast. This one is coming our way from the Las Vegas-based production companies Beno Films and Al Bravo Films, but filming took place in Little Rock, Arkansas. Deadline got their hands on a pair of first-look images from Dead and Breakfast, and you can check those out in this article.
Written and directed by Loppo Jp Martinez, Dead and Breakfast follows five petty criminals who rob a pawn shop in Kansas City. Still, on their drive back to Little Rock, an unexpected engine failure forces them to stay in a bed & breakfast in the middle of nowhere where their plan quickly derails into a bloodbath. So no, in case you were wondering, this Dead and Breakfast[/link]...

Lily Gladstone took a break from jury duty at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday to present Ron Howard with Variety’s Profile in Excellence Award.
Howard was the guest of honor at the annual Welcome to Cannes Party, hosted in partnership with the Gotham Film & Media Institute at Lucia Restaurant and Beach, where an array of industry veterans — including The Gotham’s Jeffrey Sharp, Focus Features’ Jason Cassidy, the Sundance Institute’s Eugene Hernandez and more — donned their best beach chic attire (with sunglasses) to mix, mingle and sip rosé.
Marjon Javadi, Ron Howard, Pam Levine and Charlie Andrews.
“It’s rare that a director speaks to you at two fully different stages of your life,” Gladstone said, pointing to “Willow” and “Arrested Development” as pieces of entertainment that helped shape her childhood and college years. “I want you to narrate my life.”

Happy anniversary to the Writers Guild of America strike! On May 2, 2023, Hollywood writers officially put their pencils down in an effort to bring compensation closer in line with the revenues generated by their movies and TV shows. A steadfast refusal by studios to engage with writers on some issues led the strike to be prolonged, and eventually, the Screen Actors Guild joined the work stoppage as well.
Fast forward to 2024, and many studios are still trying to get their production schedules back together. Fortunately, it looks to be smooth sailing for getting TV productions on track in 2024, and The Streamable has compiled its traditional list of new titles coming to TV and streaming every day this week to help you keep track of what’s coming back when.

Looking at the crop of new scripted series selected by the broadcast networks for 2024-25, one cannot help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of what may have been broadcast television’s greatest season ever.
The 2004-05 season introduced several genre-defying series — all but one based on original ideas — whose impact on TV storytelling is still being felt: Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, House, The Office and Veronica Mars. Remarkably, one of them, Grey’s Anatomy is still around, having just been renewed by ABC for Season 21, along with another show that premiered that same season, animated comedy American Dad!.
Aside from the fact that the current economic realities of the TV business will likely never support another drama going to 21 seasons, broadcast networks will also likely never take chances on so many unconventional ideas: a sci-fi drama on a deserted island that set the tone for modern genre fare, a...

This list contains series that will brighten up even the most difficult everyday life. At the same time, each of them is not an empty trinket, suitable only for wasting time and forgetting, but an individual and stylish project, made with real wit and screenwriting skill.
1. Veep, 2012-2019
Few mock politics as blatantly as Armando Iannucci's satirical sitcom. The show mocks not only the main character, Selina Meyer, but also her hapless team trying to keep Selina in power. As the show progresses, Meyer becomes President of the US, but does not stay in that position for long.
Veep is, of course, a show for those who love when jokes are delivered at machine-gun speed, the morals of political managers are mocked in the most merciless way, and political reality appears as a series of paradoxes.
2. BoJack Horseman, 2014-2020

With all the versatility of myriads of shows popping up in the media literally every day, the nostalgia for good old days (and their series) is still the undoubted winner — and fans have proved yet once again.
Around a week ago, a heated discussion was provoked by one user’s simple question about everyone’s most rewatchable show — and, judging by the amounts of mentions, two particular TV series reigned over the community.
The first choice made by most of the fans was an animated sci-fi sitcom Futurama, the first season of which got its release back in 1999. The plot follows sluggish pizza-deliverer Fry who, after being accidentally frozen, wakes up a thousand years later, in 2999 — and then he still gets to work at a delivery company, but alongside extraterrestrial mutants.

Be it as a child star in the ubiquitous great American classic, Little House on the Prairie, or his status as a teenage heartthrob in Teen Wolf, or his dramatic achievement in the Emmy-winning Netflix series, Ozark, Bateman’s range, style, and talent has never failed to deliver on screen.

His roles, however wacky or eccentric, were always rooted in reality and his functional and socially acceptable lead gave a cushion to his co-stars to explore their quirks without restraint.

In 2015, Pixar's "Inside Out" introduced us to a wonderful ensemble of characters in the form of five core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Joy (Amy Poehler) was the leader of the crew, trying to keep Riley happy all the time. Sadness (Phyllis Smith) was constantly stressing out Joy by making Riley feel down in the dumps. Anger (Lewis Black) came out when Riley just couldn't deal anymore, Fear (Bill Hader) made sure Riley kept herself safe, though sometimes irrationally scared, and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) ensured that she never ate broccoli or dealt with anything cringey that might upset her.
In "Inside Out 2," all the core emotions are comfortable in keeping Riley on the straight and narrow, complete with a new belief system and sense of self (more on that in our full footage reaction from our visit to Pixar Animation), even though...

‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.

"The Love Boat" holds a fascinating place in pop culture history. While most of the shows with reruns playing in heavy rotation today were in some way groundbreaking upon their initial release, "The Love Boat" is a novelty the likes of which modern TV rarely – if ever – tries to emulate. An anthology-like rom-com set aboard a cruise ship, "The Love Boat" featured a revolving door of guest stars and little connective tissue to speak of aside from the cast playing the crew aboard the ship.
The deeply '70s series earned high ratings for much of its run, yet was considered pretty silly even at the time of its release. John J. Jerry Seinfeld is a master comedian, writer, and producer, best known for his work on the sitcom named after himself. The show, which ran for nine seasons, changed the landscape of comedy shows at large and expanded the scope of storytelling.
Seinfeld took inspiration from a lot of mundane places, but he was capable of weaving it into something extraordinary. This is a testament to his comic genius, as proven by the fact that even reruns of the show are popular, even if they seem ordinary. Moreover, he went The Honeymooners‘ way with his answer when asked about the longevity of his work.

A series that has attracted both a lot of love and a lot of hate, Game of Thrones is – whether you like it or not – a pillar of modern television. HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy saga has earned numerous awards and nominations, with series creators D. B. Weiss and David Benioff being lauded as geniuses.
But, as you will probably know, by the time the series actually ended, a lot of hate had accumulated, and the creators’ decision for the series finale made a lot of fans angry, many still consider the ending of Game of Thrones to be one of the worst endings in the history of television.
Recently, though, Weiss and Benioff sat down with Josh Horowitz for an interview as part of his Happy, Sad, Confused series, accompanied by Alexander Woo. The three of them are the creators of the currently popular 3 Body Problem series,...

Niecy Nash-Betts, who recently won an Emmy for her role on Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” has signed on to host the Los Angeles portion of next month’s Writers Guild Awards. The 2024 event, which was pushed back in the wake of the Hollywood strikes, will take place on Saturday, April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“A good writer is an actors’ greatest gift,” Nash-Betts said in a statement. Added L.A. awards exec producer Hugh Fink (“Saturday Night Live”): “Niecy Nash-Betts is the dream host for this year’s WGA Awards. Benn Fleishman of Avalon Harbor Entertainment is also a producer for this year’s WGA Awards in Los Angeles. Additional presenters scheduled to appear at this year’s L.

Hollywood faces a significant imbalance when it comes to its stars. As the social and political turmoil of 1960s America spilled into the 1970s, network television executives and producers knew they could no longer ignore the thorny issues being argued over kitchen tables and at work/school. The Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement, the Equal Rights Amendment, etc. were driving a wedge between families and neighbors. So when Norman Lear trotted out the unrepentant bigot Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" in 1971, many people in the country felt seen. And while they might not agree on the hot-button topics explored on this show, they could at least laugh through their many disagreements.
There came a point, however (somewhere between President Richard M. Nixon's resignation and the end of the Vietnam War), where television viewers grew weary of all these socially conscious sitcoms. Yes, they were still watching them in huge numbers, but they needed a break from the nonstop tumult of their lives.

Ron Howard is revealing why he didn’t want his eldest daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, to be a child actor.
The director-writer-actor recently told People magazine that he forbade Bryce from acting at a young age after having to navigate Hollywood as a child himself.
“It’s possible for child performers to really find a lot that is positive within it, but it’s fraught with landmines,” he explained. Ron played Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show at just six years old in the 1960s, and recalled his parents having to supervise him and his brother.
The Arrested Development actor-producer added that he also protected his children from the spotlight because he didn’t want them to be compared to his career if they followed a similar path.
