Eddie brings home a note from his teacher Miss Kerry Allen (Ann Prentiss). Tom meets with her and the two simmer a spark between one another. She considers Eddie one of her brighter students and asks to assign him additional work "to keep him stimulated". Tom: "I'm sure you'll have no trouble keeping him stimulated." Tom talks to Eddie about dating his teacher, to which he approves but cautions, "better not let her catch you talking." The next day Eddie tells another student that his father went on a date with the teacher and the class teases him by calling him "teacher's pet". Kerry relates the incident to Tom. When a boy puts a water-filled balloon under Eddie as he sits down, getting his pants wet to ridicule, Eddie uses great restraint to not further the incident. However, he gets in a fight with some teasing kids after school. In a father-son talk, Tom asks Eddie if he wants him to stop seeing Miss Allen. The brave, wise son said he would take care of himself. Tom and Kerry next have a heart-to-heart.
The tag scene features an exceptionally touching moment with Eddie asking how far is the horizon and relating it to his late mother with Tom. Two episodes in and I'm already questioning if there has been a more touching bond on television.
