- TriviaStarting with this episode Charlotte Rae takes a break from the series and will be absent from the next seven episodes. Rae will return for episode 23 The Graduation and will make a small cameo on the season finale The Apartment. Mrs. Garret's absence is explained by having her return to her hometown of Appleton, Wisconsin to help out in a family matter. Reports vary as to why Rae takes a break from the series. Some reports say health problems were the cause while others say that Rae was growing tired off the series and felt that Mrs. Garrett was starting to become less relevant to the girls lives and episodes could thus be made without her. Indeed by seasons end Rae would decide to leave the series but NBC still felt the girls needed a motherly figure thus Mrs. Garrett's sister Beverly Ann would be introduced in season eight to take her place.
