Did you know
- TriviaThe title is based on the Depression era song "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" written in 1931 by lyricist E.Y. "Yip" Harburg and composer Jay Gorney for the 1932 musical New Americana.
- Quotes
Ida: I didn't know, nobody told me that it cost money to get old. I just figured that was one thing you got for free.
[Dorothy smiles]
Ida: But it isn't,
[Dorothy looks somber]
Ida: The retirement home costs money, the doctors cost money, medicine costs money. I always thought it was so sad I'd outlived my whole family; but I didn't know that it was going to be a punishment.

Only GG episode to make me cry
I have to admit, the ending made me tear up quite a bit. It shows the true souls of these women. Makes me love their characters that much more. Kudos to everyone involved in making this episode, it's beautiful and very eye opening. This entire show, while very humorous, displays a lot of real world problems, yet in such a gentle and touching way. They were so ahead of their time. Now I'm not one to cry at a lot, but for some reason (I don't know what exactly that reason is) made me emotional. There's just something about the music and the shots they used that just hurt my soul. It reminded me how fortunate I am in life. And to never take anything for granted. I love my girls. I watch them every night before bed. I just completely forgot about this episode, it was bittersweet to rewatch.
