Episode 53 begins with the real Burt phoning Mary from the local drugstore, asking her to come and see him,but alien Burt convinces her that he never made any such call.Jessica suspects that Chester is having an affair, but he laughs off her fears the same way he always did, with one outrageous lie after another.Dining at a fancy restaurant,Eunice tells her sister Corinne that she can no longer stand being with Dutch, the way he chews his food, what he does with boogers(not explained, fortunately); and when they catch their father dining with another woman,Eunice refuses to believe her own eyes.Billy and Leslie spend their first night out together in a really out-of-the-way restaurant("it's 35 miles from the nearest town,on an unpaved back road,it's not listed in the phone book, there's not even a name on the door...and yet it's packed!") Leslie's conscience tries to reject Billy but he charms her further into a romance, when he's not nervously knocking things over(or being discovered by Eunice and Chester, all in the same place).Corinne desperately tries to coax her husband Tim into bed,but his devotion to God is too strong(he calls her a nympho, she calls him a eunuch). Both agree to divorce; Tim says goodbye to his son,and Corinne cries on her loving mother's shoulder.Jessica explains how Corinne and Tim were sadly mismatched, since they never really found each other. The much-absent Sal Viscuso finally bows out of the series, and Diana Canova's tenderness shows how much she would be missed in the next season.
