Pauline Melville, playing Vyvyan's (Adrian Edmondson's) mum, was less than nine years older than him in real life. She had previously appeared as one of the bus passengers in the pilot episode "Demolition".
In the first chapter (Demolition), the Irish melody "Bunessan" is used as background music to a scene. Bunessan is also the melody incorporated into the song "Morning Has Broken" by English author Eleanor Farjeon and later recorded by Cat Stevens. At the beginning of this chapter, Neil watches the sun rise and comments that "morning has broken".
In 2022 a BluRay commentary track was released to accompany this episode, featuring video tape editor Ed Wooden discussing the show with commentary producer Richard Latto.
During the last three minutes, producer Paul Jackson and production team member Ed Bye join the commentary (Ed Bye remotely) to briefly reminisce with Wooden.
