Can this top Fury Road? No. Was that expected? Also no. To follow-up on a masterpiece like that is very hard and the expectations going into this movie were very high. For me it sadly did not meet them, but the movie was very enjoyable! Though the CGI at the beginning felt very 'off' to me, the captivating story and beautiful environment (orange) made me forget that rather quickly. The story is told very well via voice-over which was a very welcome surprise. Going into this I read Anya Taylor Joy had about 30 lines, which I found extremely little. Comparing to that, Tom Hardy spoke bibles full. However, the lack of a dialogue from her does not feel forced or troublesome at all! She speaks when needed and zips it when not.
Where Fury Road was a movie PACKED with action and chase scenes, this movie really does expand on the little knowledge we have of the world which was not needed to watch Fury Road but was very fun to see. The sets are beautifully made, but as much as I love Anya Taylor Joy, for me she could not compare to Charlize Theron who will always stay Furiosa for me. However, Anya really does shine in this movie and the chasing scene in the end is absolutely scintellating to experience. The beautiful music by Junkie XL really does add a lot to the movie.
Overall, this movie about 'the fifth rider of the apocalypse' is beautiful, captivating and I am ever so glad to have seen it.
