Emma Corrin, the Critics Choice and Golden Globe award-winning and SAG and Emmy Award-nominated British actress, is the guest on this week’s episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience of film students at Chapman University. The 28-year-old discussed their career-making portrayal of Princess Diana — from a 16-year-old schoolgirl to a 28-year-old royal — on season four of Netflix’s The Crown, back in 2020; their identity journey; and their acclaimed, Emmy-buzzed performance in the FX limited series A Murder at the End of the World.
On A Murder at the End of the World, which was created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (who were also behind Netflix’s The Oa), Corrin stars as a young woman named Darby Hart in two different periods of her life six years apart. Exclusive: After landing the villain role in Ryan Coogler’s next project, Jack O’Connell continues to fill out his dance card. Sources tell Deadline that he is set to join the cast of 28 Years Later, a sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later. Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes also star in the pic, which is part of a planned trilogy.
Danny Boyle is directing the first movie from a script by Alex Garland. Sony will release the film in theaters globally.
While plot details are vague, the original 28 Days Later, directed by Boyle, written by Garland and released in 2002, centered on a bicycle courier (played by Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to discover the world had been overrun with zombies following the outbreak of a virus. The pic grossed more than $82 million worldwide and led to the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, on which Boyle and Garland served solely as EPs.

In “Back to Black,” Jack O’Connell’s Blake Fielder-Civil comes into the life of Amy Winehouse — played by an exceptional Marisa Abela — with seductive bravado, sweeping the singer off her feet on their first meeting in a London pub thanks to, among other things, a lip-synced rendition of the Shangri-La’s “Leader of the Pack”.
As the divisive biopic, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and released in the U.K. by StudioCanal this Friday (and in the U.S. by Focus Features on May 17), agonizingly portrays, the smitten pair quickly descend into violent self-destruction — a “toxic co-dependency” as Fielder-Civil later describes it in the film — fueled by alcoholism and drug abuse.
Many may question the ethics of picking at a tragic story that was heavily chronicled and sensationalized by the media in real-time during Winehouse’s final years. But for anyone who’s been tracking O’Connell’s career, the opportunity to...

Earlier this year, it was revealed that frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as both a genre picture and a period piece that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The project is set up at Warner Bros., is expected to have a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. We still don’t know exactly what this movie is going to be about… but Deadline reports that Jack O’Connell is in talks to play the villain in it.

Exclusive: Jack O’Connell (Ferrari) is in talks to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler’s untitled event film for Warner Bros, sources tell Deadline.
While both the plot of the film and O’Connell’s role remain under wraps, we’re told it’s a period genre pic in which he’ll be playing the villain. Deadline was first to tell you about Warners’ acquisition of the project, following a heated bidding war.
The film brings Jordan and Coogler together following their collaboration on the Creed and Black Panther franchises, having first worked together on the acclaimed Sundance pic Fruitvale Station. It’s also the second project from the collaborators that Warner Bros Film Group co-chairs and CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have championed, after greenlighting the box office hit Creed III during their time at MGM.
Coogler is writing and will also produce alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian.

Franchise animation Kung Fu Panda 4 and creature clash Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire lead a bumper weekend of 16 new films at the UK-Ireland box office.
Universal’s Kung Fu Panda 4 has the biggest opening of the weekend in 715 sites – a significant jump for the series, after 2008’s Kung Fu Panda (448) and sequels in 2011 (514) and 2016 (585), all through Paramount.
Conversely, the total grosses of each film have dropped, with the first title making £20.4m, followed by £17m and £14.2m for the sequels. All of these were pre-pandemic; number four will look to cross the £10m mark before challenging any of those totals.

Esteemed cinematographer Benoît Delhomme’s credits have included a conspicuous number of thoughtful, visually sumptuous period pieces, such as The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Theory of Everything and Lady Chatterley’s Lover, as well as a few films made to promote fashion brands like Balmain, Dior and Chanel. In a way, that résumé partially explains why he might have been inclined to make his directorial debut with Mothers’ Instinct, for which he also serves as the Dp.
This pulpy, psychologically shallow and yet beautifully shot period thriller is all about two soignée suburban housewives — played by Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway — who spend the film’s 96 minutes suffering, scheming and losing their minds while wearing immaculate vintage-inspired costumes. Ultimately, the characters’ motivations, like their titular instinct, are weakly delineated, but viewers are well-advised not to worry their pretty little heads about any of that and just concentrate on the pantsuits.

During the Super Bowl, the teaser trailer for ‘Deadpool 3’ was released as predicted, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what appears to be the next exciting chapter in the MCU. Among the revelations in the trailer is the appearance of Cassandra Nova as the movie’s main villain, confirming rumors that surfaced back in August 2023. We had previously speculated that Charles Xavier might also have a role in the film due to Cassandra’s involvement. For those unfamiliar with Cassandra, she has a tragic backstory: she was Xavier’s twin gestating in the womb.
Xavier identified her as the “Mummudrai,” the Shi’ar equivalent of an equal and opposite spirit. Despite Xavier’s genetic potential, Cassandra emerged as his physical twin. However, Xavier perceived her as malevolent and attempted to kill her with his psychic abilities, leading to a miscarriage for their mother, Sharon. Cassandra survived and spent decades in a sewer wall,...

‘Deadpool 3’ teaser trailer just got released during the Superbowl as was predicted and while we are trying to make sense of the first impressions of what appears to be the phenomenal next installment in the MCU, the teaser trailer also showed as a glimpse into what appears the movie’s main villain, Cassandra Nova.
That Cassandra Nova will be the villain of the movie was rumored back in August 2023, something that we’ve reported on previously, but we also speculated that due to this Charles Xavier might have a role in the movie as well. For those of you unaware of who Cassandra is, she has a pretty gruesome and heartbreaking backstory. Cassandra was Xavier’s twin while both were gestation in the womb. Xavier recognized Cassandra as being the so-called “Mummudrai” by the Shi’ar, an equal and opposite spirit of Professor Charles Xavier. Due to Xavier’s genetic potential,...

Netflix’s The Gentlemen series doesn’t feature the same ensemble cast as Guy Ritchie’s 2020 film of the same name. However, Ritchie says his new series is set in the same sort of world as the film, and that’s confirmed in the show’s first official teaser trailer.

Just four years after the movie hit theaters, Netflix has turned Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" into a TV show. The above teaser trailer for the series offers proof of that, introducing a drug empire, a cast of criminals, and some vintage Ritchie shenanigans.
The teaser admittedly doesn't dive too deeply into the story, but it does do a great job of capturing the vibe. It's all set to the tune of "Time of the Season" by The Zombies, with some welcome narration by Giancarlo Esposito, of "Breaking Bad" and "The Boys" fame. Esposito is just one part of a pretty well-stacked ensemble led by Theo James ("The White Lotus"). Blood, boxing, and quips, this has all of the hallmarks of a classic Guy Ritchie production. It certainly has a similar feeling to the 2020 movie, but it also feels designed to satisfy "Snatch" fans. The official synopsis for the show...

Today, Jan. 1, isn’t just New Year’s Day — it’s also Public Domain Day, where thousands of cinematic treasures, literary classics, Great American Songbook selections, and works of art see their copyrights expire and enter the public domain.
The headliner this year is the fair use of Mickey Mouse — at least, the Steamboat Willie version of the beloved character — as that copyright expiration has been anticipated for years. However, there’s much more than just Mickey entering the public domain in 2024.

Dan O’Neill was 53 years ahead of his time.
In 1971, he launched a countercultural attack on Mickey Mouse. In his underground comic book, “Air Pirates Funnies,” the lovable mouse was seen smuggling drugs and performing oral sex on Minnie.
As O’Neill had hoped, Disney sued him for copyright infringement. He believed it was a legal parody. But after eight years in court, he was saddled with a judgment he could not pay. To stay out of prison, he agreed never to draw Mickey Mouse again.
“It’s still a crime for me,” said O’Neill, 81, in a phone interview from his home in Nevada City, Calif. “If I draw a picture of Mickey Mouse, I owe Walt Disney a $190,000 fine, $10,000 more for legal fees, and a year in prison.”

Warning: contains plot details for Ghosts series five episode two “Home”, and smut.
BBC One’s Ghosts is one of the few TV shows around that has successfully blurred the line between adult and child viewing. Kids love it, adults love it, and it’s long been appointment viewing for families doing that (almost miraculous in 2023) thing of gathering together around the same screen.
Making Ghosts’ comedy suitable for a mixed-age audience though, means keeping an eye on its adult content. The ruder gags need to be blink-and-you’ll-miss-them and cheeky, but never crass. The sordid circumstances of Julian’s 1990s Tory MP sex scandal death for instance, or Lady Button’s husband’s “Moroccan tea party” with two members of his household staff, are alluded to but never made explicit. The same goes for caveman Robin’s romantic exploits over the centuries, and his (cough) close relationship with his sister.

When it comes to pinpointing the sexiest books ever, things get complicated. After all, who gets to define what is and isn't "sexy?" What one person deems as sensual, another person might be underwhelmed by - it's often a deeply personal perspective.
As we've rounded up a couple dozen romance novels notable for their steamy content, we haven't just looked for the "spice level," as today's book review parlance goes. It's also about the ways in which sex is depicted on the page and how the characters connect with their bodies (and each other's bodies). Sometimes, it might be part of a romance novel, but not all books with frank depictions of sexuality are classed as that genre either.
You'll find all kinds of "sexy" in the books we've curated here. Some are decades-old classics, like "Fear of Flying" or "Call Me By Your Name," or, date even further back,...

‘The Sweet East’ Review: ‘Good Time’ Dp Sean Price Williams Hits the Road in Promising Feature Debut
Festival reviews just love to hype a breakout performance, to the extent that one worries about becoming the little critic that cried breakout. But here goes: Talia Ryder, lead actor in “The Sweet East,” is a star. There’s something of Kristen Stewart about her, not merely in terms of physical resemblance, but more in her gift for not just acting but reacting. That’s fortunate, because her character is generally surrounded by extremely chatty blowhards, most of them interested only in the role she might play for them in their own lives. She lies constantly about her identity and where she’s from, and these lies go down easy because nobody is particularly invested in who she might actually be — they’re too keen to fit her into their own mythology.

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for all of the BBC’s Ghosts
When Ghosts first aired on the BBC in 2019 – with its exceptional ensemble cast including Charlotte Ritchie, Mathew Baynton, Lolly Adefope and Ben Willbond – you could say our spirits were instantly raised. Thankfully, the jokes on this much-loved sitcom are much better than that, which is partly why the show’s had four successful series, with a fifth on the way.
But Ghosts isn’t just about humour, it also makes us feel something. When married couple Alison and Mike discover they’ve inherited a mansion in the first episode, they arrive seeming quite lost in life. Button House’s ghostly occupants – including 1980s scoutmaster Pat, Georgian noblewoman Kitty and caveman Robin – aren’t faring much better in death. Germany’s reunification as a backdrop for two attractive bodies uniting over and over again is one way to sum up Someday We’ll Tell Each Other Everything, which director Emily Atef (3 Days in Quiberon) adapted from Daniela Krien’s popular 2011 novel.
The problem with this handsomely made, well-acted and overwrought rural drama is precisely that: What’s interesting is not the doomed love affair between a beautiful 19-year-old girl and a strapping farmer more than twice her age, in a story that’s plays out like Lady Chatterley’s Lover meets Fifty Shades of Gray in the former Ddr. It’s whatever the film has to say about the struggling family and farming community that serves as its setting, during a period just after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Unfortunately, Atef gives short shrift to the latter in favor of the former, in a movie that starts off rather promisingly...

Emma Corrin has opened up about the unexpected “hate” they received after coming out as nonbinary.
The Crown star, who uses they/them pronouns, announced in July 2021 that they were changing their pronouns and starting to use a chest binder.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Corrin admitted they never had a “big discussion” with their team prior to making the announcement on Instagram.
“Naively, maybe, it took me aback how much hate I got for that. It was quite a reality check,” Corrin said.
“But for a lot of people, it did help. Especially around conversation of gender and stuff, it does help a lot of people to see someone living as a nonbinary person in the world.

Emma Corrin’s coming-out in 2021 was not without its stumbles.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, was recently featured in Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue alongside other up-and-coming generational talents. In the interview, Corrin discussed how the process of coming out as non-binary in spring 2021 led to difficult revelations about being an openly queer person in Hollywood.
At the time, Corrin publicly changed their pronouns and spoke about wearing a chest binder, but they told Vanity Fair that they didn’t notify their team the announcement was coming.
“I might have [messaged them] over WhatsApp and just said, ‘I’m going to post this,'” Corrin said. “I don’t think there was any big discussion about it.”
