This post contains spoilers for "Eileen." Seriously. If you haven't seen the movie yet, please check it out and then return to this article.
I fell hard for "Eileen" when I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with director William Oldroyd to mark the film's wide release. This is his second feature film, and he's now made two movies about young women who feel restricted by the worlds they live in and dramatically lash out as a result. That's certainly true of his first film, 2016's "Lady Macbeth," which helped catapult a young Florence Pugh to stardom, and for a significant portion of its runtime, it seems as if "Eileen" is going to be a much different kind of story -- a lush but low-key period romance between a mousy young prison employee played by Thomasin McKenzie...

If you don't already know composer Laura Karpman, she's one to watch. Of course, if you're a video game geek, you probably already know her work from such games as the "EverQuest" series, and if you enjoy genre TV shows, you may have heard her music on the "Taken" miniseries from 2002 and 2020's too-short-lived "Lovecraft Country."
Yet her most prominent film and TV work so far is undoubtedly with Marvel Studios, with whom she's been associated for the last several years. Breaking into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the animated anthology series "What If...?," she then went on to score the 2022 "Ms. Marvel" series on Disney+. Now, she follows Kamala Khan from that series to the character's big-screen debut as part of "The Marvels," which sees director Nia DaCosta sitting in the director's chair this time as she follows up 2019's "Captain Marvel" starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers.

Who says the world of martial arts cinema needs to be a boys club? Certainly not Australian filmmaker Maria Tran, who is very much aware that while the Jet Lis and Jackie Chans of the world have historically claimed most of the limelight, standing right behind them - and often kicking their asses - are a host of talented female performers. And she's bringing them front and center with her new documentary project, Femme Fatales, which is launching in to its production cycle now. For the past decade of her life, Fairfield-based filmmaker Maria Tran has devoted her life in making Hong Kong cinema homage action films in her backyard. She and her female led film production company Phoenix Eye will soon be embarking internationally...

Recognised as one of the original scream queens and a career spanning over three decades, Debra Lamb continues to work in film both as an actress and writer. I was lucky enough to talk with Debra about working on her upcoming film projects There’s No Such Thing as Zombies and Expresso to Die For, the title of a scream queen title, her short stories and an idea for the delicious sounding vegan dish ‘Lamb Stew.’ Check out part one of this interview right here.
A slightly longer question for you here. Although you have worked in the various genres over the years, your name has been synonymous with the term Scream Queen. There has been some debate recently as to whether the Scream Queen title is still relevant and if it is being overused. How do you feel about the title Scream Queen having been one of the originals along with Linnea Quigley,...

A few months ago we learned that Suicide Squad director David Ayer was taking on Gotham City Sirens with Margot Robbie returning to the role of Harley Quinn. We’ve known the film will also include the DC Femme Fatales Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Now it looks like we know who the villain might be.
From out of nowhere, Ayer posted a piece of comic art on Twitter featuring the character Black Mask. No text was included with the image, but it came from the comic Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Ayer could just be in the midst of doing some research and found a cool image to post. Or maybe it’s a character he actually plans on using for Gotham City Sirens. It definitely seems like a character that fits Ayer’s style.

Cinema Retro columnist Tom Lisanti co-authored (with Louis Paul) the book "Femme Fatales: Women in Espionage Films and Television, 1962-1973" for McFarland publishers. The book has just been issued in a softcover edition, revised and updated. Here is Tom Lisanti's story behind the creation of the book.
It was a long time coming, fifteen years in fact, but McFarland and Company finally released a soft cover edition of the very popular and well-received Film Fatales: Women in Espionage Film & Television, 1962-1973 by Louis Paul and myself. The book profiles 107 dazzling women (Ursula Andress, Raquel Welch, Dahlia Lavi, Carol Lynley, Elke Sommer, and Sharon Tate, among them) who worked in the swinging sixties spy genre on the big and small screens. Some include interviews with these sexy spy gals. This new edition contains some profile revisions and updates and a few new photos.
The idea for this book was all Louis Paul’s.

For years, we have seen women in films portrayed as a supporting character. From devoted wives to hardworking husbands to sexually attractive Femme Fatales. Though movies like Pride and Prejudice, The Devil Wears Prada and The Intern portray strong female characters, it’s not enough. Take the recent Ghostbusters reboot, for example. It has an all-female cast, replacing the original cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis. Some say it’s a refreshing tribute to the original film while others disagree. Die hard fans say the film is abysmal (to an extent) compared to the original regarding character interaction

"While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.”

Femme fatales, souped up cars and a mysterious villain in a Nehru jacket -- yep, it must be a new James Bond film! Sony released a brand new trailer for "Spectre" early this morning, giving us a better glimpse at Daniel Craig's next outing as 007. The clip sees our favorite secret agent bouncing between Mexico City, Rome, London and the Austrian Alps on a rogue mission to infiltrate a "sinister organization" known only as Spectre. With the aid of Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw), 007 tracks down Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), the daughter of Mr. White -- who was previously seen in "Quantum of Solace" and "Casino Royale." This all leads him to Christoph Waltz's Franz Oberhauser, the head of the shadowy organization who has a "chilling connection" to Bond himself. "Welcome James, you come across me so many times, yet you never saw me. What took you so long?...

If It Follows was the best argument for abstinence in a horror movie in some time, Eli Roth’s Knock Knock should make a good double feature about the sin of adultery.
Keanu Reeves stars in Roth’s latest, in which two gorgeous women (breakouts Lorenza Izzo and Ana De Armas) seemingly stranded out in the rain take advantage of him sexually while his family is away, only for them to return, invade his home and terrorize him for his infidelity.
In our review upon its premiere at Sundance, Dylan Griffin called it “camp glory,” writing, “Knock Knock is Roth’s most measured work to date, but it does still carry some of his filmmaking’s more significant pitfalls.” Griffin added that the film is designed to be something of a horror satire, lit like a soap opera and offering great joys in Keanu Reeves shouting at the top of his lungs.

The world of Web Series is about as diverse as it gets. From format, to genre, to production quality, they’re everywhere, and some of them take the opportunity to go for a risk.
Being un-Google-able is a risk, as is being a fairly tame show with a name like Cam Girls, but the series, which hits June 1st is surprisingly layered for something that only has 4-6 minutes to get things done.
The story revolves around Liv (Kate Bond), and the journey that leads her to becoming a Cam Girl. As she mentions in the trailer, she starts at the beginning. It’s actually a well-developed road that highlights the odd, and unforeseeable turns our lives may take. A new job, a new friend, a friend’s husband who has spy cams all over his house… the usual.

Crazy new allegations in the lawsuit between Cinemax and the actress who claims she was forced to do nude sex scenes for one of the network's adult TV shows -- including blood spitting -- and having to answer questions like, "How big are your nipples?"Anne Greene sued Cinemax and HBO, claiming she agreed to star in Cinemax's sex-filled show "Femme Fatales" -- but no one told her she was required to perform in sexually...

The legal dispute over an actress who objected to doing lovemaking scenes in the nude is now a First Amendment issue. Two years ago, Anne Greene sued Time Warner, HBO, Cinemax and producers True Crime claiming that she was bullied into performing nude scenes, sexually harassed and placed in a dangerous work environment on the set of Femme Fatales. Recently, with a trial coming, True Crime brought counterclaims against Greene, basically saying that there was no way that she couldn't have known that the acting role required such a performance. She's now being sued for breaching the "nudity rider" of

Chris Colfer will appear on an episode of Hot in Cleveland, according to TVLine. He’ll play the son of Wendy Malick‘s soap star Joy.
TV Land is reviving Candid Camera for a 10-episode summer run. Peter Funt, son of original Candid Camera host Allen Funt will host the new version which promises to be “daring but respectful”. As a group, premium cable channels may be investing heavily in cutting edge original programming featuring some of Hollywood.s best actors and actresses, but late at night, many still trot out the same types of soft core pornography programs that have been running for decades. The shows aren.t particularly sophisticated or groundbreaking, but thanks to a new lawsuit, the genre could alter how the movie and television industry deal with nudity and nudity riders in contracts. This case in question centers around an episode of Cinemax.s Femme Fatales and an actress named Anne Lee Greene. She was in one of the Saw movies and more importantly, also appeared in a 2012 episode of this particular show entitled "Jailbreak". At the time of its airing, neither her performance nor the subject matter drew much of a reaction, but that all changed when she filed a lawsuit claiming she was...

These bastards may not be so lucky.
“Lucky Bastard” pushes the boundaries of thriller cinema into the pornography business. With an Nc-17 rating, the movie looks into the scary side of the pornography business—a possible crazed maniac killer.
In a reality porn footage, a porn web site invites fans with porn stars. A young fan was given the opportunity to have sex with a famous porn star, but the cast and crew ended up with gruesome results.
The movie stars Don McManus (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Jay Paulson (“Mad Men”), Betsy Rue (“My Bloody Valentine”), Chris Wylde (“The Revenant”) and Catherine Annette (“Femme Fatales”). It is directed by Robert Nathan.
Latino-Review was provided an exclusive clip with a scene between Don McManus and Jay Paulson arguing after a failed sex scene.
The movie is currently in limited release in select cities.

It's been a long while since last we talked to you about the indie film Gold Rush, but alas! The film is nearly complete, and on tap right now we have the trailer and more!
From the Press Release
Post-production for the supernatural thriller Gold Rush is near completion. Directed by Debbie Bledsoe, terror strikes in the heart of Gold Rush Country, Northern California, when a team of modern-day paranormal experts investigate an evil presence at a collector’s estate filled with antiques from a gold mining ghost town.
The location of the film is, according to paranormal experts, authentically haunted. It’s a private property with preserved artifacts from the Gold Rush era.
"There’s no need to pretend it’s eerie here with all the dangerous mining tools: axes, picks, drills, and creepy sledgehammers. There’s real history here," said director Debbie Bledsoe. "The poker table has bullet holes.

It is widely known that sex sells. Nude women in particular seem to be the best selling attraction. This is what the makers behind the semi-softcore porn program Femme Fatales strongly believe in and in a very unsubtle way. Cinemax, or one should say “Skinemax”, has put together a show that features beautiful women, lots of softcore sex and truly idiotic storylines and dialogue so one can argue whether this is porn or not.
The show has been promoted as a sort of hybrid of classic film-noir and science fiction. It is an anthology series with varying storylines featuring strong women in the lead. The plots vary from love triangles and affairs to time travel and murder. It is an eclectic mix of storytelling but one thing is consistent here and it is the naked women, and there are lots of them. The makers of the show also through in...

Two weeks from now Sdcc 2013 will be winding down, so are there enough horror offerings to entice attendees back to the show for Day 4 (July 21)? With "Supernatural" kicking things off bright and early, we say, "Yes!"
Also on the schedule for Sunday (traditionally the family-themed day of the event) are "Under the Dome," an update on the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's werewolf/Pi/serial killer mashup novella The Skin Trade, a chance to build your own monster, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, a Neil Gaiman Spotlight panel, a look at what's coming from Diamond Select Toys, a how-to on creating suspenseful, exciting, anxiety-inducing stories, and per usual, a screening of "Buffy the Musical: Once More with Feeling" to close things out.
Since the horror offerings are so light, we've expanded our Day 4 highlights list to cover such topics as the future of sci-fi novels, the 50th anniversary of "Doctor Who,...

Femme Fatales Week! begins at Trailers from Hell, with director Dan Ireland introducing "Vertigo," Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece and last year's Sight & Sound top-ranked film of all time, starring James Stewart and Kim Novak. Stewart was born on May 20, 1908. "Hitchcock's masterpiece to date and one of the four or five most profound and beautiful films the cinema has yet given us". That was critic Robin Wood's astute 1968 evaluation ten years after Alfred Hitchcock's final collaboration with James Stewart had been released to indifferent box office and unappreciative reviews. Tragic, obsessive and backed by an unforgettable Bernard Herrmann score, it's one of the director's most mesmerizing accomplishments. It knocked Citizen Kane off its nearly 50 year perch as the #1 picture of all time in the 2012 Sight and Sound decade poll of critics and filmmakers.
