Actors Appreciate George Clooney’s SAG Proposal but Say ‘It’s a Little Bit of Union-Busting’ (Video)
While many SAG-AFTRA members appreciate George Clooney’s $50 million suggestion that he and other A-listers cover the union dues of lower-earning actors as a way to resolve the actors’ strike, some felt it was irrelevant at best and, at worst, “a bit of union-busting.” They said he could make a much bigger impact by showing up at a picket line.
“I think that the idea of raising the caps for that level of entertainer is an incredible idea. I totally agree with it,” said “Two Broke Girls” actress Alexandra Ryan on the picket line at Paramount Studios on Monday.
However, she added, “I think that it’s a sidestep to what we’re trying to do right now. And I also think that there’s a bit of inadvertent union-busting to the proposal. I don’t agree with that piece of it.”

Solutions start in the writers’ room. That’s what seven LGBTQ actors from diverse ethnic and gender identities agreed upon during TheWrap’s Pride month roundtable, in which we invited the performers to share their experiences as queer talent in Hollywood.
“What We Do in the Shadows” actor Harvey Guillén recalled times he had to help accurately translate Spanish dialogue because there were no Mexican writers on his production. “Reservation Dogs” writer, actor and director Devery Jacobs, who identifies as indigenous and queer, said she got her “ass into the writers room since I was that annoying actor with so many notes.”

Shangela, an actor and former RuPaul’s Drag Race star who also co-hosts the docuseries We’re Here, is being sued by a former production assistant on the latter show who says he was raped by the star after a wrap party in February 2020.
In a detailed nine-page filing in Los Angeles Superior Court (read it here), Daniel McGarrigle alleges that the actor (real name Darius Jeremy “DJ” Pierce) bought him multiple alcoholic drinks during the gathering at an L.A. restaurant/bar before asking him to return to Pierce’s hotel to help him pack for a flight the next morning. According to the lawsuit, McGarrigle — who says he “did not drink often” — began vomiting at the hotel, and Pierce suggested he lie down on the bed.
At some point, according to the civil suit, McGarrigle awoke and “felt Pierce on the lower half of his body,” committing or attempting to commit sex acts.

Beth Behrs as Gemma. Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS ©2022 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Starring on The Neighborhood has proven to be an interesting and formative job for Beth Behrs. Behrs, who previously starred as the very single Caroline on 2 Broke Girls, started working on The Neighborhood — playing a wife, mother, and school principal — at about the same time she was married in real life. Behrs, who became a mother last summer, says that her role on the show, along with the friendships she’s formed on the show (especially with co-star Tichina Arnold), have helped her learned to multitask all of the new roles and responsibilities in her own life. The accolades keep pouring in for Jennifer Coolidge: The celebrated character actress has been named the 2023 Woman of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the U.S.
Recipients of the Pudding’s annual prize — which has been handed out each year since 1951 — don’t need to have any particular connection to Harvard. Though, for what it’s worth, Coolidge did grow up outside of Boston, and, most importantly, she had a prominent role in the Harvard-set comedy classic, Legally Blonde.
Coolidge will be honored on Feb.

Canal+ has removed Warner TV from its offering after the French pay-tv giant and the channel’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery France failed to agree on renewed terms.
The channel, which was available exclusively via different Canal+ packages and its mobile App MyCanal, announced the news it was being taken off air by Canal+ in a curt statement on Tuesday (Jan 10).
“We regret that Warner TV is no longer available on Canal+ and MyCanal due to the lack of an agreement between the two groups. Warner TV is not stopping and will be available again in Metropolitan France soon,” it read.
The channel noted that it remained available in many of France’s overseas territories as well as to other French-speaking audiences in territories such as Belgium and Switzerland via other partnerships.

In this era of so-called peak TV, television networks, cable channels, and streaming services continue to disgorge a head-spinning array of content on a seemingly daily basis. Watching all this content is simply a physical impossibility for one person. Given the sheer volume of television shows competing for viewers' attention, it's not surprising that a select few shows will inevitably rise to the top while others face the cruel axe of cancellation.
Yet this has always been the case since not every TV series deserves to become a hit. However, there have also been many shows that were high-quality but never quite managed to find the audiences that they should have.
This is particularly true when it comes to the situation comedy, which is a genre that dates back to the earliest days of television and has remained a staple with viewers. Some sitcoms, such as "Friends," "Seinfeld," and "The Office,...
