Fox is developing the one-hour drama “The Miracle Department,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Brendan McCarthy and Alex Kavallierou serve as writers and executive producers on the project. “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman will also executive produce via Okay Goodnight along with Robbie Rowe Tollin and Hannah K.S. Canter. Fox Entertainment Studios will produce.
The project marks a reunion for Kauffman, McCarthy, and Kavallierou. Kavallierou and McCarthy were previously writers on the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie,” which Kauffman co-created with Howard J. Morris. Kavallierou has also worked on shows like “Sullivan and Son” as well as “Rob Brydon: Live.”

Fox Entertainment has brought on SideCar, its content development accelerator, and writer and executive producer Rob Long to develop the multi-camera comedy, “The Texanist.”
Variety exclusively learned in January that Fox was in the very early stages of developing the series, which is based on a long-running advice column from writer David Courtney. According to Texas Monthly, The Texanist — which “has taught many a well-intentioned Texan how to properly conduct him- or herself,” says the magazine — is its most-read feature.
The comedy will focus on Dave, an Austin-area radio show host who doles out advice to Texas natives and newcomers on “the true Texas way.” But as Texas evolves and changes, “it’s Dave’s job, with the help of his wife and family and co-workers, to figure out which changes to embrace and which to reject,” per Fox.

Fox has set Cheers alum Rob Long to write and the Gail Berman-run SideCar Content Accelerator to produce The Texanist, a multi-camera comedy inspired by David Courtney’s Texas Monthly column. The project had been on fast-track off-cycle development since the broadcast network in January acquired the IP and launched a search for a writer to adapt it.
Penned by Long, The Texanist tells the story of Dave, host of a popular Austin-area radio show that dispenses advice to Texas natives and newcomers alike on what, exactly, is the true Texas way. But the “Texas way” is changing — in good ways and not-so-good ways — and it’s Dave’s job, with the help of his wife and family and co-workers, to figure out which changes to embrace and which to reject.

We already know that Emily Blunt can totally kill the Princess Di look, thanks to a Halloween costume she wore in “The Five-Year Engagement.” But Blunt is also an incredibly nuanced actress who deserves a meaty lead role like this — and if the film world isn’t going to give it to her, then we happily welcome her to the world of television.

The grand dame of Murphy-dom may as well have a literal crown at this point.

"I can tell you I don't give a shit."
From his first appearance on-screen in September 2015, new Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. came across like a seasoned smartass who had been doing the job for years. For fans of TBS’ hilarious comedy, one might not expect tough-as-nails Ok Cha Sullivan to be known for her laugh. On the show, she has a difficult relationship with everyone and an opinion about everything. But for the woman who plays the character her laugh is one thing you notice immediately. Jodi Long, who plays Ok Cha and I had a lovely chat while she made herself a cup of tea before heading into the set where Sullivan and Son is taping its third season. I asked Long if her cast mates were bawdy bar men and she unleashed her … Continue reading →

TBS has cancelled Wedding Band after one season. The sitcom ran for 10 episodes on Saturday nights and completed its run this past Saturday at 10pm.
Wedding Band revolves around a group of four adult friends who perform in a wedding band in their spare time. The show features the talents of Brian Austin Green, Derek Miller, Harold Perrineau, Peter Cambor, Jenny Wade, Kathryn Fiore, and Melora Hardin.
The show debuted on November 10th to 1.85 million viewers with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The ratings for subsequent installments were quite a bit lower and fell as low as 937,000 viewers.
While Wedding Band won't be back for a second season, TBS still has several original sitcoms -- Sullivan and Son, Men at Work, and Cougar Town. All of those essentially draw about twice as many viewers as Wedding...

The party is over for "Wedding Band." The TBS musical comedy starring Brian Austin Green aired its final episode on Saturday (Jan. 19) and will not return for a second season on the cable network.
This story of four guys who perform cover songs at weddings may have been doomed from the start. Airing at 10pm on Saturdays -- possibly the worst "prime-time" slot available -- "Wedding Band" never managed to top 2 million total viewers at any point in its run. Only 1.4 million tuned in for the finale (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
Also appearing with Green on the show were a mix of familiar and unfamiliar TV faces. Melora Hardin ("The Office," "Monk"), Harold Perrineau ("Lost"), Jenny Wade ("Reaper," "The Good Guys"), Peter Cambor ("NCIS: Los Angeles") and Derek Miller co-starred in the 10-episode series. Although the show also attracted some big-name guest stars -- including Green's wife Megan Fox -- viewers never followed.

"Cougar Town" is loved and promoted at TBS, but that love and promotion didn't turn into big ratings for the show's cable debut.
"Justified," meanwhile, got a strong start to its fourth season on FX, drawing its second-biggest audience ever.
"Cougar Town" drew 2.2 million viewers Tuesday night (Jan. 8) in its TBS premiere. About 60 percent of those people (1.3 million) were part of the adults 18-49 demographic.
Those aren't bad numbers for a cable comedy, but they're also below the premieres for TBS' last two original comedies. "Men at Work" opened to 2.65 million viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49 last year, while "Sullivan and Son" premiered with 2.5 million total viewers and 1.3 million in the 18-49 demo.
"Justified" grabbed an audience second only to the 4.2 million for the series premiere. It also posted its fourth-best showing ever among adults 18-49. ...

TBS’ hourlong comedy The Wedding Band has the odds stacked against it when the network scheduled it in the Saturday 10 Pm slot. The last scripted series I can think of that successfully launched on Saturdays was CBS’ The District in 2000. But Saturday is unusually strong for TBS in primetime with a Big Bang Theory block, so The Wedding Band, which received mostly favorable reviews, had a fighting chance despite little promotion. It premiered this past Saturday to 1.845 million total viewers, 1.068 million adults 18-49 and 613,000 adults 18-34. The numbers were down from TBS’ two most recent original series debuts of half-hour comedies Men And Work and Sullivan and Son, which opened with 2.65 million and 2.5 million total viewers, respectively, but for Saturday night those ratings are not bad. Until you look at Wedding Band’s big lead-in from a The Big Bang Theory repeat at 9:30 Pm, which drew 3.7 million total viewers,...

Chicago – TBS has been an unusual network over the last couple years, building a lot of comedy success off of repeats of hits like “The Big Bang Theory” and “Family Guy” while also satisfying a loyal audience for comedians like Tyler Perry and his line of sitcoms and Conan O’Brien and his talk show. However, an expected slate of original sitcoms never really surfaced until this year when “Men at Work” was a surprising hit that they hope to build on with tonight’s premiere of “Sullivan & Son,” another old-fashioned laughfest built on cliches but with a confidence that gives it moments that work.

Time to bust out Big Carl and pass around slices of Krazy Kake, because “Cougar Town” fans have something to celebrate. TBS has officially swooped in to save the fiercely loved but barely watched ABC comedy, granting it a 15-episode fourth season scheduled to begin airing in early 2013.

The show, which has received 10-episode order for a summer premiere, joins Men At Work, which received a series order last month.
