VANGELIS is "Missing"
Vangelis composed many film and documentary soundtracks. Among them, two great masterpieces, such as Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire, as well as many others, such as 1492, Alexander... Moreover, the Greek musician has won 1 Oscars in 1981. He also composed the soundtrack for Missing. Maybe that's why he is missing in the video. ;-P
Vangelis is a very well known musician all over the world, not only for his musical career outside cinema, but also for his works in European and American cinema.
He has been successful for 5 decades of music, from his beginnings in his native Greece to his death this year 2022 in Paris, the city where he lived and still worked, despite his 79th birthday.
In my view, his merits are indisputable, not only in the field of film music, but as a pioneer of electronic music in general.
His music for the Chariots of Fire film has become an anthem of Olympism and sport. In fact, his music was played at the opening of several Olympic games and sporting events. I just hope they don't forget it at the Oscars gala.
Likewise, his music for Blade Runner graced one of the most iconic scenes in film history (Tears in the Rain) and has been honoured in Hans Zimmer's remake of Blade Runner 2049.
I hope I have contributed to make this undisputed great figure of music be taken into account.
Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou; 29 March 1943 - 17 May 2022), known professionally as Vangelis, was a Greek composer and arranger of electronic, progressive, ambient, and classical orchestral music. He was best known for his Academy Award-winning score to Chariots of Fire (1981), as well as for composing scores to the films Blade Runner (1982), Missing (1982), Antarctica (1983), The Bounty (1984), 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992), and Alexander (2004), and for the use of his music in the 1980 PBS documentary series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan.
