With a career that’s ranged 33 years — over three quarters of his life — Jake Gyllenhaal has covered nearly every type of character, genre, and form, but in a recent interview in The Hollywood Reporter, he said he’s now focused on taking on roles that “freak me out a bit.” Whether that means getting cut and learning to give and take a beating for Doug Liman’s “Road House” remake or wading through the moral and ethical murk of murder and infidelity in the upcoming Apple TV+ mini-series “Presumed Innocent,” Gyllenhaal is game for a challenge.
“The feeling I want to have is, can I do it?” said Gyllenhaal. “That it’s going to ask of me things that I don’t know about myself yet.”

Jake Gyllenhaal recently played an Mma fighter in the remake of Road House. The actor shared screen space with real-life UFC champion Conor McGregor. The film was a remake of the ‘80s classic starring Patrick Swayze and was extremely successful despite being released directly on Amazon Prime Video.
The success of the first film has reportedly led to a sequel being commissioned. Much like McGregor, another prominent athlete might just be in the running for the antagonist again, if the sequel decides to go the same route. After looking at boxer Ryan Garcia’s antics over the past few months, Road House 2 might have just found its new villain.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has added another cast member to her upcoming take on The Bride of Frankenstein, and it's someone she knows very well.
In a new piece on the Spider-Man: Far From Home and Roadhouse star, THR reports that Jake Gyllenhaal has joined the cast of The Bride!, but don't reveal any details on his character.
Gyllenhaal (Maggie) recently took to Instagram to share the first ever production stills from the film, giving us a glimpse of Christian Bale as Frankenstein's Monster, and Jessie Buckley as the misunderstood creature's titular Bride.
We first heard about this project back in 2022 when it was being developed for Netflix, but a follow-up report indicated that the film had been shelved shortly after the Hollywood strikes got underway, and was being shopped elsewhere. More recently, we'd learn that Warner Bros. had acquired The Bride!, which is now set for a theatrical release on October 3rd,...

Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly joined Maggie Gyllenhaal’s remake of The Bride Of Frankenstein.
Here’s a fun addition to a production that we’re keenly following: Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly found his way to London where he’s joined the cast of The Bride!, the upcoming reimagining of The Bride Of Frankenstein. The film is being directed by his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal and already boasts an exciting ensemble cast.
Along with Jake Gyllenhaal, the cast now comprises the considerable talents of Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard. Honestly, for all of its many flashy casting announcements, we don’t think that even Ria Johnson’s latest Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man, can compete with that.

When images started to surface of Jake Gyllenhaal filming a UFC fight scene for the Road House remake, audiences got a glimpse at how the Doug Liman film for Amazon would differentiate itself from the original Patrick Swayze film from 1989. The consensus was that making Dalton a former professional fighter was an interesting twist that wouldn’t make the remake a complete copy of the Swayze film. However, the die-hard fans would remain skeptical. Now that the film has been released on Prime Video (along with the controversy of not being given a theatrical window), many agree that it doesn’t have the heart of the original, but there is still a division among the viewers on who may have still found it serviceable.

The 1989 action classic Road House (watch it Here) recently got a decent enough Prime Video remake that’s set to receive a sequel – which is something the original movie should have gotten around 1991 or so. But no matter what other movies use the Road House title, nothing will ever compare to that ’89 movie… which I have vivid memories of watching at a drive-in during its initial release. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Road House, the estate of musician Jeff Healey has announced that they’re teaming up with Sony Music and Mondo Music to bring us Road House: The Lost Soundtrack, the complete, previously unreleased soundtrack that Healey recorded for the film.
Road House: The Lost Soundtrack is available to pre-order from the Jeff Healey Estate’s official website and will also be available on all major streaming platforms on June 7th, courtesy of Sony Music. This release features...

Jake Gyllenhaal pulls his glasses out of his jean jacket pocket, the Coke bottle lenses in them strong enough to correct his 20/1250 vision. Yes, you read that right. These are not Internet Boyfriend glasses, to be styled with a fuzzy cardigan and a rakish smile. These are I Literally Can’t See glasses. Looking through them with normal vision feels like being on some sort of a hallucinogenic.
Gyllenhaal, 43, has been wearing intensive corrective lenses since he was about 6. Born with a lazy eye that naturally resolved, he’s still legally blind. “I like to think it’s advantageous,” he says. “I’ve never known anything else. When I can’t see in the morning, before I put on my glasses, it’s a place where I can be with myself.” He has used his blindness sometimes to help him as an actor — when he was shooting a difficult scene in the 2015 boxing movie Southpaw,...

What are the greatest action movies of all time? It’s a controversial question, isn’t it? Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Nevertheless, we here at JoBlo have decided to throw our hats into the ring with a list we really hope generates some nostalgia among our viewers but also encourages them to seek out the movies on this list that they may not have seen. But first, some may wonder where superhero movies are on this list. Given how broad that genre is, we decided to stick to old-school action, so we have left them off the list, as they deserve their own ranking. There are also a few absences from the list, notably some Jackie Chan films (like Police Story), with...

Aired on Prime Video in March, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House is still a prominent feature of the platform’s global top. The top-tier action about an ex-UFC fighter also starred a real-life sports legend, the professional boxer Conor McGregor, in his movie debut.
Netflix has just added another sports movie to its catalog, and it can easily beat Road House by its wholesomeness. More than that, it tells the true story of rises and falls of one of the world’s legendary boxers, and it definitely adds to it being a must-watch.
It starts by showing a boxer during his championship debut against the back-then heavyweight champion, whom he beats and becomes a worldwide sports star. The subsequent events of his complicated life lead him to rethink the realities he lives in.
Sports lovers can already guess we’re talking about Muhammad Ali, also known as Cassius Clay Jr.

Brian Levant's 1994 film version of "The Flintstones" is a classic example of how major studio blockbusters, no matter now successful, can vanish entirely from the public consciousness. "The Flintstones" is rarely regarded in 2024, often seen only as footnote in its actors' careers, or perhaps a whimsical blunder not worth remembering. Those of us alive in 1994 recall the massive advertising glut that came with "The Flintstones," as well as the toy tie-ins, the magazine covers, the Universal Studios attractions, the Williams pinball machine. "The Flintstones" was a studio tentpole writ large, boasting a beloved, decades-old IP and a dazzling cast of celebrities; John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O'Donnell, and Elizabeth Taylor appeared, while the film boasted cameos from Laraine Newman, Jay Leno, and the B-52's.
Notably, "Jurassic Park" cinematographer Dean Cundey shot the film, while "Jurassic Park" Michael Lantieri similarly served as SFX supervisor. Everything was super-slick and polished nearly to death.

Image Source: Amazon While the late Patrick Swayze will undoubtedly be remembered most for Dirty Dancing and Ghost, one of his personal favorites — and one that has picked up a sizable following over the years — was Road House. The 1989 film, which spawned a remake (starring Jake Gyllenhaal) that was released earlier this year, featured Swayze as a bouncer at a small-town bar in Missouri. At the time of the film’s original release, Swayze said he was attracted to the role because he could identify not only with the character, but also with that small-town way of life. Nothing comes easy for “The Fall Guy” (Universal). Despite a home release 18 days after opening (typical for Universal) and outgrossing “Civil War” by $4 million despite playing for four weeks less, Alex Garland’s film shares top honors with the stuntman actioner this week on the VOD charts.
Both films, available for rental for 48 hours at $19.99, placed #1 on one chart apiece. “Civil War” leads at iTunes (ranking by transactions), while “Fall Guy” does at Fandango (calculated by revenue). One factor differentiating the two is that “Civil War” was released on Friday, while “Fall” debuted the previous Tuesday. That gave the latter an edge on Fandango, which has a weekly Monday-Sunday chart. It was #1 on iTunes on Wednesday through Friday, with “Civil War” #1 since.

The Regency era dominated TV screens during the week of May 17-23, as “Bridgerton” took not one, not two, but three top spots on Luminate’s weekly streaming ranking charts.
In its first full week of availability, Season 3 Part 1 of the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series hit 2.3 billion minutes watched, the No. 1 title by far. Season 1 took second place with 498.6 million minutes watched, followed by Season 2 with 434 million minutes watched. It’s clear that “Bridgerton” will continue to dominate streaming rankings for weeks to come, not only because of the show’s obvious popularity, but because Season 3 still has four episodes yet to come on June 13.
Two titles tied as the next-most-watched of the week: Season 2 of Amazon Prime Video's "Outer Range," which was the No. 4 TV series, and Netflix's "Mother of the Bride," the top movie. Both were watched for 256.4 million minutes in their first full weeks of availability.

The biggest issue with Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is perhaps the title itself. Otherwise, I don’t have much of a problem with this film. Puritans might find the very idea of a remake blasphemous, but I don’t mind them as long as they’re something like the recent “Roadhouse.” The 2024 remake of the film has a lot going in its favor. The story gets a necessary Gen-z update; the lead character (and her family) being black adds value to the whole thing, and the performance of the young cast is very much on point. As this is basically a feel-good teen comedy, it has a pretty conclusive and expectedly happy ending. You still might have questions about the babysitter, even though the film seems to be least bothered by her death—just saying!

Saturday Night Live wrapped up its 49th season last week with one of its strongest recent episodes, thanks in large part to (third time) host Jake Gyllenhaal. So it’s hardly surprising that the Road House actor’s name is among those that have been submitted for Emmy consideration in the Outstanding Guest Actor In a Comedy Series category. But he’s far from the only recent host whose name is in the mix.
On Tuesday, Variety reported that at least 17 of the 20 individuals who hosted SNL this season have been submitted for Emmy consideration. If that seems like a lot of people competing for the same awards, that’s because it is: it’s the highest number of hosts to submit in the past five years.
Here’s who’s vying for an Emmy for showing off their comedic chops this season: Nate Bargatze, Josh Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, Pete Davidson,...

Saturday Night Live closed out its 49th season this past Saturday with Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal taking on host duties for the third time, and Sabrina Carpenter making her SNL musical guest debut.
While the episode itself earned generally positive reviews, live-plus-same-day viewership for the Gyllenhaal-fronted SNL season finale was below average. The sketch show hauled in an average of 4,205,000 total viewers and 869,000 P18-49 viewers on May 18, 2024, per Nielsen. That’s – 1% in total viewers and -3% among P18-49 versus live-plus-same-day averages for the most-recent episode — led by Maya Rudolph on May 11. The May 18, 2024 SNL delivered the show’s smallest total live-plus-same-day audience since the March 30, 2024 episode (hosted by Ramy Youssef).
Out of the 20 SNL episodes that aired in the 2023-’24 season, the Gyllenhaal-led show is No.

The 49th season finale of Saturday Night Live was hosted by Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal, who previously headlined the show in 2007 and 2022. On this outing, his screen time came to about 26 and a half minutes, or nearly 42% of the episode’s running time.

Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. This weekend, the 49th season of "Saturday Night Live" came to an end. Typically, the season finale is chock full of guest stars, and usually a big name or former beloved cast member takes the stage in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza for hosting duties. This time, it was the former, with "Road House" remake star Jake Gyllenhaal returning for his third time hosting the late night sketch series.

Jake Gyllenhaal is arguably one of the bravest actors of his generation, venturing into different genres and attempting risky projects throughout his career. As a child actor, he gained prominence in the role of Homer Hickam in 1999’s October Sky. The young actor would go on to star in one of the most influential films of the 2000s Donnie Darko.
Jake Gyllenhaal as Homer Hickam in 1999’s October Sky
The complex psychological thriller was directed by Richard Kelly with Gyllenhaal playing the titular role. Most people were blown away by the film’s ambition and were left thinking about the complicated narrative and the ambiguous nature of its ending. Gyllenhaal considers this the biggest achievement of the film which has led to its resonance to this day.

Jake Gyllenhaal decided to showcase his vocal talent during the Season 49 finale of “Saturday Night Live.” The actors began serenading the audience with a rendition of Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road.” During the ballad, Gyllenhaal switched up the lyrics, claiming he was the very last choice to host for the finale. He croons, “They asked Pedro Pascal, but he wasn’t around. Zendaya said no because she’d be out of town. Even asked [Ryan] Gosling to come back again, just hosted three shows ago.”
The sing-along monologue also featured appearances from cast members Kenan Thompson, Ego Nowdim, Punkie Johnson and Devon Walker, who were dressed in the R&b boy group’s signature sweater and baseball cap.

Jake Gyllenhaal had a show-stopping “Saturday Night Live” monologue for its Season 49 finale, literally breaking out into song with a Boyz II Men spoof of “End of the Road.”
“We’ve come to the end of the road, it’s the last episode. Time to say goodbye, season 49 — you’ll be 50 soon,” the actor sang alongside impromptu bandmates Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Punkie Johnson and Devon Walker.
Riffing on the Grammy-winning R&b act’s 1993 Motown Records single, the highlight of the bit came with Gyllenhaal’s impassioned bridge where he listed all the hosts Lorne Michaels asked to come host for the Season 49 finale before him.
“They asked Pedro Pascal but he wasn’t around. Zendaya said no ’cause she be out of time. Even asked Gosling to come back again, just hosted three shows ago!” Gyllenhaal, capitalizing off his previously Tony Award-nominated singing chops, belted.

Jake Gyllenhaal took hosting duties for Saturday Night Live’s Season 49 finale ahead of the historic 50th season this fall.
The Road House actor joked in his monologue, “When you think of historic television seasons, the first number that pops into your head is 49.”
“I mean, sure, you know, one more episode and I would have been hosting the premiere of the 50th season, but who cares? Forty-nine is a great number. I mean, seven times seven, classic,” he said. “Forty-nine is like 69 but easier. Also, 49 is the number of times Conor McGregor accidentally punched me during Road House.”

Gyllenhaal acknowledged that viewers are waiting for Season 50 and added, “You can’t get to 50 without a little bit of 49. And we’re here at the finale — the end of the road.”

“I’m not afraid to testify at all, I’m just not going to out of fear,” said James Austin Johnson ‘s Donald Trump from the hall of a Manhattan courthouse in the cold open tonight of the final show of SNL’s 49th season.
Set to pick up with the defense’s case on May 20, Trump’s hush money trial is never short of providing laughs as much as it is tears. However, while the courthouse was the backdrop, the focus of the beginning of tonight’s show was a potential Vice President. Sen, Tim Scott, played by Devon Walker, and dog-killing South Dakota Gov. Pure intentions never come a long way when it comes to achieving stardom in Hollywood. John Wick star John Leguizamo seems to understand that but while the actor may hold a cynical view of the industry due to time spent behind the curtains, there exist some things (perhaps a movie role or odd jobs to pay oneʼs way through surviving as a struggling artist) that he imagines as simply being too awkward to be uttered in public.
John Leguizamo in To Wong Foo [Credit: Amblin/Universal Pictures]Now, sufficient time has passed in the life and career of Leguizamo to serve as a cushion for his criticism, whenever or wherever it may apply. Such a protective cushion frequently comes into use when the actor brings up his fellow co-stars in the industry and serves to spill some tea about their roles that some still view as divisive beyond reproach.

The Sony Pictures sequel “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” made headlines as it rolled through a succession of Florida locations in late February and early March, with reports of crews “spark(ing) buzz” filming on the A1A Highway in Fort Lauderdale, fans catching a glimpse of stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Brickell, and traffic tie-ups in Miami.
“If you look at the trailer, you’ll see anything that has to do with the beach is all us, with the stunt scene that they did on Ocean Drive in Fort Lauderdale,” boasts Sandy Lighterman, film commissioner for Broward County (Film Lauderdale) and president of Film Florida. “That was because we made it so easy for them.”

Netflix’s rom-com “Mother of the Bride” and Will Forte crime drama series “Bodkin” led the Luminate streaming originals chart for the week of May 10-16, elbowing past higher-profile competition.
Two buzzy streaming original movies — Netflix’s “Unfrosted” and Amazon Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” — held up well in their second full week in release. The Jake Gyllenhaal starrer “Road House” continues to be a work horse for Prime Video, which confirmed earlier this week that a second installment is in development. A surprise on the original film chart was Netflix documentary “Living with Leopards,” which debuted at No. 7.
“Bodkin,” which revolves around a podcast crew that comes to investigate the disappearance of three people from a small town in Ireland years before, moved swiftly up the original streaming series chart, passing Netflix’s “A Man in Full.” The Jeff Daniels’ starrer came in at No. 2 in its second full week in release.

When Emma Stone, star of Disney’s Cruella and Searchlight’s Poor Things, introduced CEO Bob Iger at the company’s Upfronts presentation this week – the first time that the former TV chief had been on stage at the advertising rodeo in 30 years – it was clear that this is no longer just a TV event.

Stars such as Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell and Jake Gyllenhaal were all highly visible presences across the week to promote their recent and upcoming feature films.

Leading up to Sabrina Carpenter’s Saturday Night Live debut this weekend, and host Jake Gyllenhaal’s return, the pair teamed up with Bowen Yang to tease the upcoming season finale.
In the video, in seeming reference to her sun-kissed hit song “Espresso,” Yang exclaims: “Sabrina, your song is stuck in my head!” After the cast member proceeds to sing, “Summertime is coming everybody is into board shorts,” Carpenter gently informs him that it’s not her song.
Regardless, Gyllenhaal joins Yang’s enthusiam as they declare, “Board Shorts Summer!

The season finale of Saturday Night Live arrives this weekend, and the occasion brought together Jake Gyllenhaal, cast member Bowen Yang, and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter for the traditional Thursday promo.
As usual, it was an exercise in hilarity.
In the first segment, the lads claim to have a Carpenter song stuck in their heads. Only it’s not her song.
Then Yang mentions that Gyllenhaal’s body in Roadhouse was the inspiration for his own fitness journey, before scoffing at the notion.
Finally, the big finish: Where does the name “Carpenter” come from? Watch the clip for the surprising answer.

One of the hardest things to pull off in the movie industry? A remake of a golden classic that doesn’t get immediately torpedoed by furious critics and Og fans. Few directors have managed such a feat, and it wasn’t the case with this largely hated 2024 action thriller. Half of its viewers hated it, but the other half has an ace up its sleeve: Stephen King’s personal endorsement of this controversial remake.
Even Jake Gyllenhaal Couldn’t Save This Remake
The original Road House came out in 1989, starring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott and directed by Rowdy Herrington. The movie wasn’t too gracefully received by the critics, but the audience enjoyed it — and as it often happens in such cases, Road House later became a cult classic. You know what Hollywood does to cult classics from the 80s, don’t you?
In 2024, a modern remake by Doug Liman hit the screens.

With all the respect for the professional critics, the viewership still seems to matter more. Doug Liman’s controversial action movie Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter is officially getting a sequel with Gyllenhaal reprising his role.
Despite mixed reviews and quite an average score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, Road House was still a roaring success getting 80 million views in total nearly two months after being dropped on streaming.
Upon its digital release on Prime Video, the film made quite a fuss concerning its director’s claims that Road House was unfairly deprived of normal theatrical release which could prove the movie’s ability to earn even more than just Prime Video’s view record.
Eventually Liman and Amazon MGM came to some sort of agreement, though the director still threatened to skip Road House’s official big premiere (which he did attend after all).

The television industry’s annual “upfront” is usually a place where advertisers get to preview new series and specials, not blockbuster movies, so NBC raised eyebrows Monday when one of the first previews it showed to an audience at Radio City Music Hall was of the coming Universal film “Wicked.”
NBCUniversal, chief content officer Donna Langley told the crowd, was “excited to build up our story legacy across film, TV and streaming.”
Movies and premium cable series from HBO and Showtime used to be something traditional TV advertisers got their hands on only after they had made their way through theaters and pay-tv windows. Now, as a batch of this year’s upfront showcases reveal, they are increasingly being dangled before Madison Avenue as a major reason to support TV companies.

In 1989, the legendary Patrick Swayze starred in the original Road House movie. The movie has achieved cult status in the meantime, and while the 2006 sequel was panned by critics, Amazon decided to remake the movie, which was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, but it seems that the fans were more than satisfied, as a sequel has been announced by Amazon, with the first film’s main star, Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role in the sequel. We’re certain that this sequel won’t repeat the failure of the original sequel, but it remains to be seen how well Amazon is going to execute it.
The first movie was released in March 2024, and the critics on Rotten Tomatoes have agreed that “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.”

Sound the bells y’all! It seems like Round 2 of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House is just around the corner. Coming from the house of Amazon MGM Studios, the movie was considered by the executives a hit, garnering over 80 million views in a very short span of time. This success has seen the studio back the movie for another rodeo as they have already announced that a sequel is in the works. But the creators would be wise to steer clear of a few facets that the first movie got wrong.
The success of Road House
Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House is one of Amazon MGM Studio’s most-watched produced film debut
Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, was a remake of the 1989 movie of the same name. The Og Road House was quite the phenomenon, with Patrick Swayze essaying the role of Patrick Dalton, the protagonist.

At the Amazon upfront, Reese Witherspoon appearing in character as Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods wasn’t even the actress’ best effort of the morning. That came about 45 minutes before her presentation wrapper, when she scolded her You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell for bragging about his romantic comedy prowess.
“I’m the fucking queen of looking cute while sleeping,” said Witherspoon, referring to that moment in every rom-com when one actor lovingly looks at the other while their eyes are closed. This delighted the crowd at the tech giant’s first-ever upfront presentation, as did much of star-packed show — once they got in, of course. Slow lines stretched down South Street, prompting a half-hour delay for the Pier 36 event.
“Thank you for whatever you went through to get in this room,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, when she finally took the stage. “I know it was a lot.

It seems that Road House was – in every sense – a hit. Not only did it feature a lot of people getting, well, hit, but it received solid reviews, as well as drawing in millions of viewers on Prime Video. Plenty of reason, then, for Amazon to double down and demand a return trip to the Road House. Yes, a sequel is on the way, with Jake Gyllenhaal back on board for more brawls, booze, brooding, and bro-tactic bodaciousness.
The news was confirmed on social media, teasing few details, but noting that Gyllenhaal will be back in the role of Elwood Dalton – the no-nonsense bouncer who, with his Mma background, makes short work of any rabble-rousers at the ludicrously idyllic bar run by Jessica Williams’ Frankie. It’s clear that the ruckus caused by director Doug Liman before the release of “Road House” earlier this year didn’t do much harm to the film’s debut. In fact, it might have helped draw attention to the movie, as it quickly became a monster hit for Prime Video. Makes you wonder if Liman was right, and the film would have done gangbusters at the box office. But I digress.

Amazon Prime Video made its first upfront presentation to advertisers on Tuesday in New York, with the streamer bringing out some of its biggest stars to break some news while touting its original series, film and sports offerings.
Amazon took over Pier 36 in Manhattan, which included a large installation dedicated to Amazon shows like “Fallout” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty” as well as movies like “Road House” and their various sports offerings like “Thursday Night Football.”
Amazon’s first major upfront started half an hour late — the long line to get in was referenced several times by Amazon MGM Studios head Jen Salke and even “You’re Cordially Invited” stars Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell. But once inside, advertisers were presented a star-studded litany of projects and news designed to make a huge splash in the marketplace.

Jake Gyllenhaal will return as wandering ex-mma fighter Dalton in Road House 2, Amazon MGM has announced.
Almost as famous for its off-screen drama as the spine-rattling violence within it, Road House was clearly a success for Amazon MGM earlier this year. So much so that studio boss Jennifer Salke has gone and announced that it’s going to make a sequel, with star Jake Gyllenhaal to return as its hard-hitting lead, Elwood Dalton.
“As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called Road House,” Salke said during a fancy event in New York, according to Variety. “Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched Road House. We like to watch this these results like a baby.”
We’re not quite sure what Ms Salke means by the baby bit, and either she was misquoted or her numbers are somewhat off – it was originally reported that about 80 million people watched Road House worldwide,...

The Doug Liman-directed Road House remake, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, was a massive hit from Prime Video this winter. According to the streamer, the movie was watched by 50 million global viewers, which is a staggering audience and makes it one of the most popular streaming movies ever. In interviews, Gyllenhaal seemed open to the possibility of a sequel, and the film certainly left a huge plot thread dangling with its post-credits sequence. Thus, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Amazon announced at its Upfronts presentation today that a sequel is in the works, with Gyllenhaal returning as Dalton.
No news yet on whether co-star Connor McGregor or director Doug Liman will be returning. I would bet McGregor will be back, but Liman seems unlikely. The director has been outspoken about his conflict with Amazon regarding the film bypassing a theatrical release. The company, for its part,...

It’s Day 2 of the Upfronts and Amazon is making its primetime debut.
The streamer is already making news with a series order for a Nic Cage-from Spider-Man noir live-action drama, a Jeopardy! spinoff and a slew of sports docs including a third season of Coach Prime.
There have also been renewals for The Boys and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
This comes after Tom Brady was in the huddle for yesterday’s Fox Upfront and NBCUniversal held their annual ad blowout at Radio City Music Hall.
Held at Pier 36, Amazon kicked off thirty minutes late with thousands of people lining up outside a construction site to get in.
(Dade Hayes/Deadline)
Alicia Keys opened the show; a few chords on the piano before promoting her Amazon Premium Beauty lifestyle brand (obviously) and kicking into No One and her Jay-Z duet Empire State of Mind (New York). “It’s going to be a beautiful day,...
