While the Wheel Of Fortune will never be the same without long-time host and legend, Pat Sajak, he has other fish to fry. Although he is preparing and ready for the final spin to air, Pat had one leg out the door with his new gig already lined up before the season finale.
End Of An Era
Now that the final spin is about to air, it has been a week of memory lane for the Wheel Of Fortune cast. Admittedly, Pat Sajak knows it will be “okay” for him to move on from the life he’s known for more than four decades. Confessing to his daughter, Maggie Sajak, he says, “I’d rather leave a couple of years too early, than a couple of years too late.” Although he knows he could still give the show more time, he says there are some other things he would like to do in his life.

The Wheel of Fortune stops spinning for longtime host Pat Sajak tomorrow, when his final show airs. But retirement is not in the offing.

The book is far from closed on Matthew Perry’s death
Over six months after the Friends star died and was laid to rest in LA’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park, the Los Angeles Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency are still looking into what happened last October.
“There is an open investigation with the DEA,” an LAPD spokesperson told Deadline today.
Found in a hot tub, Perry died October 28 at age 54 at his home in Los Angeles. On December 15, 2023, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office declared that Perry passed away from the “acute effects of ketamine.” The autopsy report also cited drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine — a drug used to treat opioid use disorder — as contributing to his death.
After confirming the joint investigation with the DEA earlier Tuesday,, the LAPD has just issued a more formal statement:

12 years ago, the world saw the last episode of ABC’s iconic dramedy series, the mysterious Desperate Housewives, which concluded after 8 seasons and made big stars of its actors. The main show’s housewife was obviously Susan Mayer, the notoriously clumsy “girl next door”, always ending up in trouble and, of course, in love.
However, since 2012 there has been little news regarding the Susan actress, Teri Hatcher, who has really laid low since the finale of Desperate Housewives. In fact, Hatcher did participate in a number of the titles that truly deserve our attention.
Not Just Desperate Housewives
Her first recurring live-action role since Dh was the one in the sitcom The Odd Couple (2015 - 2017), where she played Charlotte, a love interest of Matthew Perry’s Oscar. This series continued the trend of her career, as her character, a single mother in her 40s, was really reminiscent of Susan Mayer there.

Matthew Perry’s stepfather Keith Morrison is getting candid about his relationship with the Friends star nearly five months after the actor died at age 54.
The Dateline correspondent, who married Perry’s mother, Suzanne Perry, in 1981, recently opened up to Hoda Kotb on the Making Space podcast about the difficult last few months as they continue to mourn Perry.
“As other people have told me hundreds of times. It doesn’t go away yet,” Morrison said. “It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time.”
Perry died unexpectedly on Oct. 28 from the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, according to an autopsy released in December.
“There’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain, and, you know, it’s not easy, especially for his mom,” Morrison added. “I don’t think I’m giving away too much by saying that toward the end of his life,...

Reboots of beloved shows from decades past can be easy ways to trap viewers through nostalgia. Some can break off and start to feel like their own entity (as with Frasier), while others are just cheapo cash grabs that bring nothing fresh to the original premise. But Ray Romano won’t even bother trying to find out how a reboot of Everybody Loves Raymond would fare with audiences, saying it is absolutely “out of the question.”
As for why Romano is shutting down even the idea of an Everybody Loves Raymond reboot, he has plenty of reasons, starting with the simple point that “they’re never as good…and we want to leave with our legacy as what it is.” There, too, would be two key cast members missing: Peter Boyle, who passed away in 2006 just one year after the sitcom went off the air, and Doris Roberts, who died...

Sitcoms are among some of the most beloved TV shows ever made. Unlike respected premium drama series like "The Wire," "Breaking Bad," or "True Detective," which regularly top lists of the greatest TV shows ever made, shows like "Friends," "Seinfeld," "Cheers," and "The Office" are beloved in a way that feels a lot more personal. Sitcoms are feel-good experiences, even when they're shows about nothing, and are the exact opposite of David Fincher's intense thrillers.
Which is why I can't shake the feeling that the auteur is making fun of himself with his latest effort. As /Film's Chris Evangelista wrote in his review of "The Killer," "I'm not saying Fincher is on the same level as a cold-blooded killer, but he clearly sees a lot of himself (and his approach to his work) in his latest protagonist." But if the director was trying to draw this parallel between the...

The Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham was a close friend of Matthew Perry, and said he was really happy and satisfied before his untimely death.
“This last year, he was so proud of the book he wrote, and of how many people it touched,” Graham, 56, said on a CBS Mornings appearance Thursday. “It was a success that gave him a level of happiness that I hadn’t seen in him for a really long time, so that’s a nice memory.”
Perry died unexpectedly on Oct. 28 at age 54 at his Pacific Palisades home.
“I am still in shock,” Graham said. “I mean, it’s a really tragic loss, and he leaves his beautiful work behind. That’s something to be thankful for, and again, the book really meant something to him, so it was a really happy year for him.”
She fondly recalled her relationship with Perry.
“No one made me laugh as hard.

Jack Nicholson Isn’t Retired Yet, Says Director James L. Brooks: ‘I Don’t Buy’ That He’s Done Acting
Thirteen years after last appearing onscreen, and Jack Nicholson might still be open to working.
The Oscar winner most recently starred in 2010 rom-com “How Do You Know,” directed by his “Terms of Endearment” helmer James L. Brooks decades after first collaborating on the 1983 drama. Brooks told The Wrap that despite rumors, Nicholson is not retired.
“I don’t think he’s retired,” Brooks said. “I don’t buy that he’s retired.”
He continued, “I remember there was once a friend of mine who one of these raging, alcoholic-driven arguments [with me] about who was the greatest actor at the time. This was at Dustin Hoffman’s height and everything like that. I’m saying Jack Nicholson. He’s saying Dustin Hoffman. Jack Nicholson hasn’t acted since James L. Brooks’ 2010 feature “How Do You Know,” but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people who would love to see him on the big or small screen again. I watched Friends when it originally aired. I was in college in the 1990s, when the sitcom launched and became a cultural phenomenon. I carved Thursday nights out of my calendar, reserving the 8 p.m. hour for my Friends obsession, refusing to go out until after my weekly visit with Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe. I was experiencing many of the same things my Friends were: first love, first job and learning who I was — a little Ocd (Monica), deflecting (Chandler) and a dash responsible dork (Ross).

Martin McDonagh’s cult hit man feature comes to 4K looking extremely good: fans of low-key black humor and droll sentimentality, kinda-like-the-Coens, kinda-like-Tarantino, love this picture. Cute characterizations from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson & Ralph Fiennes bring light to a ‘killers with a heart’ story. It keeps us watching to see what happens next, that’s for sure. And when’s the last time that 13th century European art and architecture figured so heavily in a mob saga?

It’s thrilling to watch Lionsgate make a run at the box office top spot with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, a grown-up comedy.
Not a kiddie fantasy, like Peter Rabbit 2 or Cruella. Not a Covid-era placeholder, like The War With Grandpa, or a streaming event, like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. But a rough, raucous, R-rated action comedy, not unlike Bad Boys For Life, which had three weekends atop the box office in January of last year before theaters closed and everyone stopped counting.
Breathe. Laugh. It almost feels like summer.
Through August, at least a dozen adult-leaning comedies are set for release in a recovery that has been initially dominated by horror and family fantasy. Maybe it’s too much to hope that two or three of them will raise momentum enough to smash through the cultural malaise that has soured life for a couple of years now.
But you never know.

Daniel and Johnny are finally teaming up on “Cobra Kai,” but Ralph Macchio and William Zabka could still face off against each other — at the Emmys. Both are competing in Best Comedy Actor and they would be the first pair of co-stars to be nominated together in the category in 10 years.
The last duo to pull it off was “The Big Bang Theory’s” Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki in 2011, a race that resulted in Parsons taking home his second consecutive statuette and the second of a record-tying four wins in the category. That was Galecki’s only bid for the long-running CBS hit.
Double nominees in Best Comedy Actor are uncommon. Most comedies feature a clear lead or male and female co-leads. Or if there are two male stars, one might be pushed supporting to maximize nominations — Charlie Sheen earned four lead bids for “Two and a Half Men...

Early on in HBO Max’s long-awaited Friends reunion special “The One Where They Get Back Together,” series co-creator David Crane reveals the producing team’s initial vision for the show.
“We were really intrigued with the idea of doing a true ensemble. It’s not like there’s a lead and they have friends. No, it’s just about the friends. We’re following all of their stories equally.”
Friends would never have worked if Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Kevin Bright hadn’t gone six for six in the casting of the titular friends. One or two solid choices wouldn’t do it. Neither would four or five. It had to be all six.

“Are her bra straps dirty?” “When she goes to bed, where are those clothes? Do they fall on the floor? Does she care about them? How much do they cost? Does she hang them up?”
Those are all questions Ann Roth, whose work can next be seen on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” set to be released Dec. 18, asks herself as she reads a script. And the 89-year-old Oscar- and Tony-winning and Emmy-nominated costume designer has been doing plenty of reading lately. She’s working on Universal’s adaptation of megahit musical “Wicked” and has A24 drama “Humans,” directed by Stephen Karam and based on his award-winning one-act play, due to bow next year.

ESPN may be synonymous with sports, but plenty of stars have bailed for Fox Sports lately. Have a look at some the big names.
Chris Broussard
The longtime NBA analyst – who’s gotten some criticism for remarks considered homophobic – joined Fox Sports in 2016, where he’s a regular panelist on “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” and co-hosts “The Odd Couple” with Rob Parker for Fox Sports radio.
Cris Carter
Carter first joined Fox Sports in 2016 and had hosted “First Things First,” alongside Nick Wright since 2017, but it was a short tenure. He left Fox Sports in late 2019, reportedly after he had an outburst with higher-ups over not being part of the network’s “Thursday Night Football” coverage.
Skip Bayless
The outspoken sports columnist and “First Take” analyst still ranks as ESPN’s highest-profile defection when he bailed in 2016. He co-hosts “Skip and Shannon” with Shannon Sharpe on Fox Sports 1.

Lucy forgot her glasses, CBS was the king of the networks with 55 major nominations and three film legends found love among Emmy voters. The 27th Emmy Awards was held on May 19, 1975, and was the first of four ceremonies in its 72-year history without a host; however, the evening was not without laughs. Let’s flashback to the Emmys 45 years ago.
Leave it to the first Queen of Television Comedy to provide some entertainment for the host-less evening. Lucille Ball was given the honor of announcing the winner for Best Comedy Series, but the 63-year-old forgot her eyeglasses. After fumbling with the envelopes, she despaired that she was “really in trouble.” But an old friend and fellow comedy legend came to her aid — Milton Berle jumped onstage and offered an empty wine glass to look through. Did our favorite redhead forget her glasses, or did this comic duo plan the laughs?...

Like many young kids from an inner-city neighborhood, you struggle to find your place in a world not reflected broadly in the media.

Exclusive: Showtime has put in development La Bravura, a one-hour psychological thriller dramedy from veteran comedy showrunner Tad Quill (A Moody Christmas), S.W.A.T. co-creator Shawn Ryan and his MiddKid Productions, and Sony Pictures Television.
La Bravura, which I hear landed at Showtime in a competitive situation, marks the first sale under a new overall deal extension Ryan signed at his longtime studio home, SPTl.
Written by Quill, in La Bravura, when a husband does a behind-the-scenes documentary of his wife’s elaborate heist at the Getty Museum, their marriage comes under strain.

“Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland first conceived of “Solar Opposites” as a live-action, family-friendly alien version of “The Odd Couple” for Fox. But then it became animated and he partnered with “Rick and Morty” writer-producer Mike McMahan — and that’s when they went wild with comedy about a family of aliens forced to find a new home in middle America.
It’s outrageously different from “Rick and Morty.” The aliens are obsessed with pop culture, but they’re unable to fit in with human society no matter how hard they try, creating destruction and disorder as a result of the unintended consequences of their wacky experiments. Because the series landed on Hulu, they had the freedom to throw in lots of violence and some sex, too. But the biggest difference was that they serialized the conflicts, which made it perfect for binge viewing.

The coronavirus couldn't have come at a worse time for currently airing broadcast television hoping to end their full seasons.
Heck, it's not good for upcoming series or pilots under consideration, either.
While it's possible bubble shows might get a second life so their already carved path continues and viewers can snuggle in with what's already comfortable, if production stoppage goes on for a long time, seasons might not end at all and fall TV could get delayed until January 2021.
But amidst all of the chaos, there are silver linings.
We talk about the glut of great programming all the time and how impossible it is to watch what you want. What better time to check out alternatives than when all of your time is spent indoors?

February 14, 2020, will mark the world premiere of the hysterical live stage parody Law & Order: The Musical!
As a cast member and writer here at TV Fanatic, I had the unique chance to interview writer/director/performer Ilyse Mimoun and composer Jeremy Adelman.
Having never watched an episode of Law & Order myself, I can attest that this musical can be enjoyed by all -- not only Law & Order fans -- but it is extra funny for those that are familiar.
The cast includes: Ebenezer Alasi, Annie Bond, Tara Cox, Steve Fite, Godfrey Flax, Kerr Lordygan, Tifanie McQueen, Ilyse Mimoun, and Kira Powell.
Choreagraphy is by Lou Becker, Desiree Zarate is stage managing, and Courtney Rhodes is Assistant Director. See more -- and get tix -- here.
Covering social issues like unjust justice and changes of cultural norms throughout the years, Law & Order: The Musical! never forgets it's a comedy.

In 1964, Fail Safe was released. It was directed by the very influential and prolific director Sidney Lumet, an American master of cinema and television, who helmed films such as Network, 12 Angry Men, Serpico, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, to name a few. Lumet was also well-known for getting excellent performances out of his actors, and Fail Safe is no different. Tributes have been paid to veteran British film marketing and publicity executive, Gerry Lewis, who died on January 5 aged 91.
The London-born executive was best known as Steven Spielberg’s international marketing consultant, working with the filmmaker for 47 years from Dual in 1971 to Ready Player One in 2018. “He was really there for me before anyone else,” said Spielberg, shortly after Lewis’ death.

CBS has given a pilot order to We The Jury, a half-hour comedy from 9Jkl co-creator Dana Klein, writer Stephanie Darrow, UK producer Big Talk Productions and CBS Television Studios.
The comedy, originally sold and developed as single-camera, has been picked up to pilot as hybrid. The move is similar to last year’s format-change for comedy The Unicorn, which was developed by CBS/CBS Studios as a single-camera but picked up to pilot as a multi-camera. The pilot was converted back to single-camera before it was shot.
Written by Klein and Darrow, in We The Jury, a group of jurors are sequestered together until they all agree on a verdict….and they can’t even agree on lunch.
We the Jury was based on a British format of the same name, created by stand-up comedian James Acaster. It was piloted on BBC Two in the UK in 2016 as part...

CBS is developing a project that takes a comedic look at the age-old “12 Angry Men” dilemma of how does a jury come to a unanimous verdict?
The network has issued a pilot order for “We The Jury,” a hybrid series from “9Jkl” co-creator Dana Klein and Stephanie Darrow. The project hails from CBS Television Studios.
Here’s the short and sweet logline for the project: “A group of jurors are sequestered together until they all agree on a verdict….and they can’t even agree on lunch.”
“We The Jury” also has some involvement from across the pond, with Big Talk Productions CEO Kenton Allen and managing director Matthew Justice on board as executive producers. The final Ep listed on the project is James Acaster, a rising star on the British comedy scene whose “Repertoire” series of stand-up specials graced Netflix in 2018.
Klein, a “Friends” alumna, also created “Friends With Better Lives” which,...

Back in that age we call golden, Broadway marquees were frequently set ablaze by long-running plays that producers looking to turn a profit lovingly referred to as boulevard comedies. These were typically middlebrow laugh machines expertly crafted by the likes of Mary Chase, Neil Simon or Abe Burrows Think Harvey, The Odd Couple or Cactus Flower, involving contemporary everyday characters in realistic situations containing just enough sentiment to make you care about what happens next, while maybe even wrapping up with an uncontroversial, heartwarming message.

Longtime international marketing consultant to Steven Spielberg, Gerry Lewis has died. Amblin Partners shared the news today that Lewis, 91, passed in London on January 5.
Lewis was an international movie marketing, publicity and distribution consultant who worked in both the British and Hollywood industries for the better part of a century. He consulted at majors Paramount and Universal, first meeting a young Spielberg in the early 70s when he launched an international release for the filmmaker’s Duel. The pair went on to collaborate on such films as Jaws, E.T., Schindler’s List, Ready Player One and more. He also was known for leading notable campaigns on Alfie, The Odd Couple, Love Story and The Godfather.
Said Spielberg today, “Gerry was a wealth of knowledge. He loved movies and filmmakers, and his understanding and respect of culture and the diversity of cultures made him invaluable to the distribution of movies internationally. He...

There’s a time-honored tradition of turning celebrated movies into television series. A lot of them have ended up as sitcoms: “The Odd Couple,” “M*A*S*H,” “Alice” (spun out of Martin Scorsese’s 1974 landmark “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”). But not all of them. Did you know that “Casablanca” was turned into two different TV series, one in 1955 and one in 1983? (The latter starred David Soul as Rick Blaine!) In 1976, they tried it with “Serpico.” Sometimes, a series can seem a true extension of the movie it’s adapted from — that’s what happened with “Fargo” and “Dear White People.” Sometimes, the movie that spawned a series will come to seem a mere footnote to the show — that’s what happened with “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Friday Night Lights.” And in the case of “Parenthood” (though it took two tries to get it right), a movie can be turned into...

Exclusive: The magical menace called Mxyzptlk is returning to National City. Thomas Lennon (The State) is set to recur as the mercurial trickster in the fifth season of the CW’s Supergirl.
Mxyzptlk, aka “Mxy,” is the impish, reality-bending trickster from the 5th Dimension, who previously visited National City to woo Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, but created chaos in the process. British actor Peter Gadiot portrayed Mxyzptlk for that two-part Season 2 adventure, but the transition to Lennon is smoothed by the character’s handy reputation as a shape-shifter with an unpredictable nature.
Mxyzptlk (it’s pronounced “miks-yez-pit-əl-ik”) has a history of mischief dating back to 1944 in the pages of DC Comics, where the most familiar version of the character is as an eccentric, levitating imp with a purple-and-orange ensemble and matching bowler. Often portrayed as an exasperating pest to Superman, Mxyzptlk is daft but also dangerous given the Kryptonian vulnerability to magic.
