Scalper doesn’t tell a particularly original story but it doesn’t really need to because it is definitely going for a modern take on the eighties slasher. In the movie we discover that everyone around the psychic Clementine Carter (Susan Priver) is being murdered by a masked killer dubbed ‘The Scalper’. She must use her psychic abilities (and occasional help from the police) to work out if this is a copycat killer or the murderer Andrew Lubitz back from the dead.
Scalper goes right for it with its pretty unpleasant and brutal first scene. We watch a man get stabbed from behind, and then repeatedly stabbed in the ass, until he is very close to death, at which point the killer uses the same knife to...

Earlier this month, a serial killer thriller called Squealer was given a theatrical and digital release. You can watch the trailer for that one Here. Squealer drew inspiration from the story of Robert Pickton, a Canadian pig farmer who was charged with killing 26 women (but claimed to have killed 49). He would feed the bodies of his victims to the pigs. Just a couple weeks after Squealer made its way out into the world, another serial killer thriller inspired by the Pickton case has arrived in theatres, and you can watch the trailer for this one, which is called Pig Killer, in the embed above.
Pig Killer is currently playing in the following theatres:
Laemmle LA
Film Noir Brooklyn
Reeding Berkeley
Vancouver – Van City Oaks Cinema Center
It will be receiving a VOD and Blu-ray release next week, on November 21st. Copies are available for pre-order on Amazon.

Stars: Randy Couture, Oleg Prudius, Natalie Eva Marie, Neal McDonough, Rashad Evans, Frank Mir, Chuck Zito, Jonathan Camp, Bai Ling | Written and Directed by Daniel Zirilli
Everett Grant has beef with Russian mobster Maxim Vasiliiv played by Oleg Prudius or if you’re a pro wrestling fan, Vladimir Kozlov. It seems Everett’s security company has been cutting into the Russian mob’s profits and they’re not happy about that. Since Phoenix is an action film, they decide to settle it with a fight to the death. That would be Everett’s death via a bullet to the head made to look like suicide.
WWE wrestler Natalie Eva Marie plays Everett’s daughter Fiona, Phoenix to her friends. She’s told of his death by General Shackleton. She knows he would never have killed himself and decides to put her hand-to-hand combat trainer’s skills to work finding answers.

Like many low budget action films, there is a constant, uneasy tension between ambition and what is possible. Hustle Down is aiming to be a Michael Mann thriller, but the constraints constantly degrade the experience. Whether it is low budget cameras, direction, or uneven acting.
An almost unrecognisable Tom Sizemore (with dyed black hair and looking elderly) is running around (and gosh is it a sad sight) in a cheap shirt, avoiding cartel hitmen.
I barely recognise the wispy voice of Tom Sizemore here, nor his ghoulish countenance and I certainly don’t recognise his ripe acting. He was one of my favourite actors for a long time, and it is so sad to...

Set in the 1980s, somewhere around Christmas, Hellblazers is yet another original offering from Tubi, at least in some territories. Writer/director Justin Lee isn’t exactly somebody I expect a good film from, but even he can’t go wrong with a cast that includes Tony Todd, Billy Zane, Bruce Dern, Adrienne Barbeau and a few other genre vets, can he?
Wheelchair-bound Nam vet Bill Unger (Dern) is out visiting his wife’s grave when he hears something in the woods. He rolls over to the edge of the trees just in time to see Joshua (Zane) and his followers toss someone in a flaming pit, and a demon climbs out. As he aptly puts it, “We’ve got a big problem”.
Of course,...

Produced by genre magazine Girls and Corpses and distributed by Shout! Team Ferrin’s experience with a cast that includes such genre superstars as Lance Henriksen, Bill Moseley, Adrienne Barbeau, Bai Ling, Kevin J. May’s home media releases are off to a great start, as genre fans have a lot to get excited for this week. Two of the best genre films of the year are heading to both Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday: Osgood Perkins’ Gretel & Hansel and The Lodge from Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Tigers Are Not Afraid (which was one of my favorite films of 2019) is getting the Steelbook treatment this week, and if you weren’t able to catch it in theaters, Bloodshot hits various formats as well.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for May 5th include Exorcism at 60,000 Feet, The House In Between, Cry Havoc, Insecticidal, and Becoming.
Bloodshot
Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the Rst corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins,...

While there’s been a spate of promising under-the-radar horror trailers released recently – like Exorcism At 60,000 Feet, Psycho Goreman and Uncaged, for example – we haven’t seen many spooky paranormal documentaries lately to help keep us up through the long, dark nights. That may be about to change, however, as Zak Bagans’ creepy supernatural doc, Demon House, is now available to stream for free for Amazon Prime members in North America and a few other select territories.
The eerie documentary focuses on a haunted house in Indiana, which made headlines for reportedly being possessed by over 200 demons. As a result of these reports, Bagans – an American paranormal investigator who hosts Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures – stepped in to find out what all the spooky ruckus was about. Long story short, he purchased the aforementioned house. Sight unseen.
