Stephen King’s very name is like a tease to moviemakers and showrunners. If the King of Horror has a novel or a novella, rest assured it’s either been adapted at least a couple of times or someone’s working on an adaptation at this very moment. In this sea of King adaptations, both poor and brilliant, it’s easy to miss out on some real gems — and this overlooked TV show from 2020 is one of them.
Don’t Mess with The Outsider
Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, HBO’s The Outsider is a golden classic in its own right. The series follows a seemingly straightforward investigation into a gruesome murder of a young boy. An unorthodox investigator and a seasoned cop have the perfect suspect lined up for them, with the man’s fingerprints ultimately incriminating him.
However, camera footage reveals that in fact,...

Angelina Jolie hit the red carpet with her 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne Jolie, on Thursday night in Los Angeles for the opening of the musical Reefer Madness.
Jolie, 48, wore a chic black suit with a printed gray tie over a white t-shirt as she supported her friend Kristen Bell, who produced the immersive theatrical experience. Vivienne donned black trousers and a matching vest over a pale blue shirt.
Bell, 43, starred in the 2005 film Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical and now is bringing the cult classic back to the stage as a producer alongside Alan Cumming. She looked stunning in a long black dress with sheer detailing at the opening night at The Whitley Theater.
Reefer Madness: The Musical is billed as an “immersive theatrical experience” based on the 1936 anti-drug propaganda film. It satirizes the old film’s outdated views on marijuana.

Stephen King may be known for epic novels like It and The Stand, but many Constant Readers first met the Master of Horror through his short fiction. Beginning with the iconic 1978 collection Night Shift, the best-selling author has been dazzling us for decades with short stories overflowing with sickening gore, fantastical creatures, meticulous violence, and transcendent joy. King follows suit in You Like It Darker, a jaw-dropping collection of twelve terrifying tales, five of them previously unpublished. Inspired by Leonard Cohen’s “You Want It Darker,” the outstanding tome dives head-first into the brutal randomness of pain and destruction – a “lullaby for suffering” only King can deliver.
The collection kicks off with “Two Talented Bastids,” a poignant story about an elderly author and his less talented son. Laird Carmody is a small-town Mainer who prizes his quiet life among the locals – a thinly veiled reference to King himself. The sprawling...

Forty years ago, author William Gibson brought the world a cyberpunk novel called Neuromancer – and an adaptation of that story has been trudging its way through development hell pretty much ever since. Versions of a feature film adaptation have passed through the hands of director like music video maker Chris Cunningham, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob‘s Chuck Russell, Torque‘s Joseph Kahn, Cube‘s Vincenzo Natali, and Deadpool‘s Tim Miller. While these projects were being put together (and while they fell apart), Neuromancer fans always wondered who would end up playing the lead character, Henry Dorsett Case. Hayden Christensen was rumored to be the top contender when Kahn was going to direct (with Liv Tyler rumored to co-star). Liam Neeson and Mark Wahlberg were said to be in the running for Natali’s version, although it wasn’t said who they might be playing.

After the adaptation of Stephen King's detective story Mr. Mercedes, which was praised by both fans and critics, another adaptation of the book from the Bill Hodges series has been released. The fact that television producers have begun to turn to the author's rather unusual works is a trend to be excited about. Both Mr. Mercedes and the 2020 series The Outsider are primarily detective stories, not horror.
King's works in this genre haven't yet become overgrown with self-repeats – that's why watching these adaptations is much more fascinating than seeing how poor people get lost in the tall grass or pets rising from the dead.
What is The Outsider About?
According to the plot of The Outsider, the body of a brutally murdered schoolboy is found in a small town. All evidence points to coach Terry Maitland, a seemingly respectable man who bears little resemblance to a brutal killer.

American author Stephen King is much loved by his fans for crafting some of the most iconic horror stories. The author has written many cult classics like It, The Shining, Pet Sematary, The Outsider, and more.
His books have also inspired multiple TV and film productions, with the 1980s The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, being the most popular. Hence, it’s no surprise that the 76-year-old writer is considered an authority in the horror genre.
Most recently, King shared his take on a 2024 horror film which received an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 21%. The author disagreed with critics’ opinions about the film.

The 1996 version of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which was directed by John Frankenheimer (who replaced Richard Stanley after half a week of filming), is a well-known disaster, but that was just one of many cinematic adaptations H.G. Wells’ 1896 novel has received over the years. That novel has inspired the 1932 classic Island of Lost Souls, 1959’s Terror Is a Man, 1972’s The Twilight People, a 1977 film that actually kept the The Island of Dr. Moreau title, the Full Moon production Dr. Moreau’s House of Pain, and more. Now we can add another title to the list, as Deadline reports that Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins has signed on to star in the The Island of Dr. Moreau reimagining Eyes in the Trees.

“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+,” stated creators and executive producers Roland and Dillard. “Since we became friends nearly 10 years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. Neuromancer has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it, and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk’ world.”
The 10-episode drama will be executive produced by author William Gibson, Zack Hayden, Anonymous Content, and Skydance Television’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell.

Plot:: This emotionally thrilling series reveals the shocking story of how fashion icon Christian Dior and his contemporaries, including Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain, and Cristóbal Balenciaga navigated the horrors of World War Il and launched modern fashion.
Review: Fashion design has found great success as fodder for reality series and romantic comedies. Films like The Devil Wears Prada, Robert Altman’s Pret-a-Porter, and Ryan Murphy’s limited series Halston have looked at the intricacies of the fashion world, mostly from a contemporary standpoint. The new AppleTV+ series The New Look is designed as the start of an anthology series by looking at the tumultuous period after World War II when French fashion icons Christian Dior and Coco Chanel reinvented what we consider haute couture. With a stellar cast led by Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche, The New Look should have been an instant frontrunner for series of the year. Instead,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 11 “The Outsider.”] If you thought Gideon Ridge (James Frain) shook things up when he made his entrance at the end of Episode 10, that’s nothing compared to what happens in the latest Quantum Leap. Gideon is none too pleased with Ian (Mason Alexander Park) for using the quantum chip he made for them that helped them find Ben (Raymond Lee)—he was missing for three years, though no time passed for the leaper—without his knowledge and refusing to give it back. Someone has to go, and since Ian is the best shot at finding Ben, it can’t be them. Tom (Peter Gadiot), as the Department of Defense representative, tells Magic (Ernie Hudson) he has to fire Jenn (Nanrisa Lee). Instead, Magic decides to resign. “Once he found out the truth about what Ian had been up to, I think he realized that something had to be done,” ...

This article contains spoilers for Quantum Leap season 2 episode 11 “The Outsider.”
Fate. The main narrative thrust of the original and new Quantum Leap is changing fate. To put right what once went wrong. That doesn’t mean that Leapers like Sam (Scott Bakula) and Ben (Raymond Lee) can just change anything they want however. When Leapers are given their missions they’re often small, helping individual lives instead of making changes on a global scale. Why? Why can’t a Leaper, who’s supposed to make the world better, change bigger parts of the fate of history?
Season 2 episode 11 of the new Quantum Leap, “The Outsider” brings this question to the forefront. In the two previous episodes, Ben had learned current love interest Hannah’s husband was going to die of heart disease. In a full Back to the Future moment, Ben writes a letter to Hannah before that happens so she can prevent it.

The trailer for "Wicked" just premiered during the Super Bowl and it features recognizable stars like Bowen Yang and Ariana Grande. But playing the future Wicked Witch Elphaba is someone who might be hard to recognize under all that green make-up: Cynthia Erivo. She's not a household name, but there's a decent chance you've seen (or heard) her somewhere without realizing it.
Erivo is an English actress who rose to prominence with one of her first major theater roles: Celie Harris in the musical stage adaptation of "The Color Purple." She went on to feature in the musical film "Beyond the Lights," then took on the role of Chenice in the West End musical "I Can't Sing!" The name of that show was misleading: Erivo very much could sing, and would continue receiving bigger and better roles as a result. She soon made her Broadway debut in the 2015 revival of "The Color Purple,...

Stephen King loves Holly Gibney. First introduced in King's crime novel "Mr. Mercedes," book one of the Bill Hodges trilogy, she's returned in his work time and time again. She came back in the two other books in the trilogy: "Finders Keepers" and "End of Watch." Then she appeared in the novel "The Outsider" and the short story "If It Bleeds." Finally, she got a book of her own with "Holly," the newest novel King published (it came out in 2023; the ever-prolific King probably wrote four more novels in the time it will take me to finish this sentence).
Holly has been brought to the small screen twice already. She appeared in the "Mr. Mercedes" TV series, where she was played by Justine Lupe. Then she popped up again in the TV adaptation of "The Outsider," where Cynthia Erivo played the character. Now, Holly is headed to the small screen again,...

What if Nicolas Cage was Freddy Krueger, minus the fondness for murdering people, the burn-induced scarring, and the razor-bladed glove? Cage's character, the unsuspecting middle-aged professor Paul Matthews, even shares Freddy's predilection for cozy knitted sweaters in "Dream Scenario," the latest eccentric exercise in metamodern storytelling from contemporary indie powerhouse A24.

That writer from Maine is back at it again. Stephen King one of the most prolific authors in America, is back with a new novel. The novel is called “Holly”. The novel follows Holly Gibney. The character made her first appearance in Mr. Mercedes. She also appeared in Finders Keepers and End of Watch and later was a major supporting character in The Outsider.

This Post Contains spoilers for Stephen King’s new book Holly, which comes out today.
Stephen King is readying himself for a flood of hate when his next book, Holly, drops on Sept. 5. “I think that a lot of people are not going to like it,” he says. “I think that a lot of people — particularly people on the other side of the Covid issue and the Trump issue — are going to give it one-star reviews on Amazon. But all I can say to those people is, ‘Knock yourself out.

The next book we’ll be seeing from Stephen King is Holly, which is set to reach store shelves on September 5th (you can pre-order a copy Here) and centers on the Holly Gibney character that King has previously written about in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy, The Outsider, and the If It Bleeds story contained in the short story collection of the same name. Now, during an interview with the Talking Scared podcast, King has revealed three more projects that he’s working on or thinking about working on: another short story collection, another Holly Gibney story, and possibly a third book in the Talisman series he started with the late Peter Straub.
King told Talking Scared (with thanks to The Guardian for the transcription) that the short story collection is called You Like It Darker and is expected to be published sometime in 2024. The book has a page count...

‘The Continental’ Trailer Promises Plenty of ‘John Wick’-Adjacent Thrills in Peacock Prequel (Video)
Ready to return to the world of “John Wick?”
While the dog-loving assassin played by Keanu Reeves shuffled off the mortal coil earlier this year in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the saga is alive and well, with the prequel series “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” debuting this fall on Peacock. The three-night event has all of the colorful villains, gratuitous bloodshed and rich mythology you’ve come to expect from the series, with a fresh 1970s New York setting that sheds some light on some of your favorite characters.
And you can watch the brand-new trailer above. It’s killer.
“The Continental” follows Winston Scott, played here by Colin Woodell and portrayed by Ian McShane in the “John Wick” movies, who is called back to New York from London by the Continental’s brutish hotel manager Cormac (played with scenery-chewing menace by Mel Gibson). It seems that...

Paris has been the backdrop to many a great romance, and in Heartstopper, that’s no different. A school trip to the French capital in season two is the site of an instant connection between boy…. and bookshop. When Isaac Henderson sees Shakespeare and Co. on the banks of the River Seine, it’s love at first sight. He’s punch-drunk in its aisles, wandering around with wide eyes, balancing an ever-growing stack of titles in his arms and basking in the literary sunshine.
It’s not as though Isaac didn’t come to Paris pre-stocked with books (it’s a good job the schools travelled by coach and not air – you could hardly ask this teen to load up a Kindle). The boy’s never seen without a paperback. Reading is part-obsession, part comfort-blanket to him. Books, as they are for a lot of us, are his shield against the world.
