Strappare lungo i bordi (2021)
Well this is great
It's definitely not easy to talk about this show without many spoilers about the main twists of the last two episodes but I'll try anyway, because I don't want to ruin the experience. This show was made by Zerocalcare (if you were wondering, his real name is Michele Rech) , an italian comic book writer with a pretty peculiar style. His narratives are autobiographical but surreal streams of consciousness full of irony, cyinism and self-pity, but also handling some very serious issues at times in a very deep and personal way. This show is exactly what you would imagine a show based on his comics would look like. It's funny, clever and full of detours that don't add anything to the plot but they get so hilarious you can let that slide. Zero dubs almost every character and that may sound ridiculous, but don't worry, it will make sense in the end. And then, in the last two episodes, you break down crying, when some great plot twists make you realize what Zero is really talking about. I won't get specific, but this is a story of regret, sense of guilt and of being scared of the future. Also trigger warning: there is talking of depression and suicide, so be warned if that disturbs you. I hope for the success of this show and that it could actually revitalize the almost dead industry of italian animation.
Ulysses: A Dark Odyssey (2018)
An alternative point of view
I see a lot of people destroying this film and I can understand why. It'a a B Movie with definitely some problems in the script. The rating I gave is to be put in the context of the italian cinema.
In the last years in Italy we mainly saw dumb and badly filmed comedies and pretentious dramas clogging the theaters, so a movie like this is a project that only deserves support.
I also think that it's not badly acted and that visually it's nicely done for what it could be. The script is flawed and has some pacing problems (it didn't need to last 2 hours) but the story is interesting and relatively original even if the ties with the Odissey are very loose.
I also don't know why all the positive reviews here are clearly fake, but I want you to know that there are real people who actually liked the movie and has good reasons to do so.
Ai no mukidashi (2008)
Just a Masterpiece
This movie is pretty unknown for the most part of the public. This is understandable because the lenght of almost 4 hours and the pure japanese madness of this film are not what a normal viewer wants.
This is not a simple movie. This is a mad and long epic journey into the religions and the human perversions. This is a deep art piece about love in a spiritual sense. But it's also a B-Movie full of splatter, panty-shots and martial arts.
I cannot define what this movie exactly is, because it's everything that you can imagine, but it's something that will stay, for a reason or another, in the mind of everyone who watches it. Sion Sono is one of most crazy directors in the world, and this is his magnum opus.
Hate it or love it, but watch it.
P.S. Italian distribution, PLEASE, if you read this... I want this movie in a cinema.
Colossal (2016)
Great Movie with a Great idea
Found this during a random Netflix session. This film has a quality that films are losing in these times: It's original. In a period when movies are starting to become more and more identical to each other, it's really nice to see something that doesn't look like something else.
Noticeable are also the cinematography, the sountrack and the actors. The only thing I think it could be better is the slightly rushed final part of the movie, but nothing too much serious.
Watch this movie if you want to see something different but not too much weird and with really thought-provoking and funny moments.
