According to industry insider reports, Warner Bros. is purposefully dumping its highly anticipated Bong Joon-ho project, Mickey 17. Earlier this year, reports emerged that the film was delayed to January 2025 in favor of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, the new reports tell a different story; that of a creative difference between Bong and the studio.

In the wake of the massive failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment finds itself in a storm of criticism and scrutiny.
It seemed that the management at Rocksteady Studios took a rather peculiar attitude towards their recent misstep. Instead of learning from the failures of other live-service games, the studio chose to ignore them completely.
Toxic Positivity and a Culture of Denial Was Another Reason Behind the Failure of Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad went through several iterations through its lengthy development.
According to a Bloomberg report, concerns about the troubled development of the game were repeatedly dismissed by management with assurances that everything would come together in the end, similar to the successful Arkham series. This blind optimism led to what some employees describe as a culture of toxic positivity, where criticism was discouraged, and any concerns were brushed aside.

Rocksteady Studios had sky-high expectations following the massive success of the Batman Arkham franchise, which shattered sales records and set the bar high for superhero games. However, their latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, turned out to be one of the most disappointing games of 2024.
The biggest reason for this disappointment was Rocksteady Studios’ prior focus on story-based and one-off games. Venturing into the realm of live service gaming was uncharted territory for them. Nevertheless, studio executives opted to transform the game into an online multiplayer experience with live service components.

Criticism of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is plentiful on social media, and you might be tired of hearing it.
It’s back again, however, after gaming insider Jason Schreier and Bloomberg released an extensive report on the behind-the-scenes disaster that went down and sealed the game’s fate. Mismanagement seems to be the name of the game, and there’s no more question about why it turned out the way it did.

Despite Gal Gadot's insistence that she'll return as Diana Prince, all signs point to her time as Wonder Woman having ended. James Gunn has already cast a new Superman and is searching for Batman, so there's no reason to believe he'd round out the Dcu's Trinity with the Justice League star.
As noted, Gadot has talked repeatedly about meeting with Gunn and Peter Safran. Promoting Netflix's Heart of Stone, she claimed they assured her she would return as the iconic DC Comics character in a new Wonder Woman movie.
Despite that, the plug had been pulled on Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 almost immediately after DC Studios was formed as it didn't fit into the Dcu's new direction.

Thanks to the Hulu on Disney+ experience, viewers can now find top heroes from the DC Universe and the MCU on one streamer.
Disney+ is an incredibly versatile streaming platform, one that offers much more than the kids content that most audiences immediately associate the company with. Its programming lineup got another big upgrade this year when the streamer officially launched the Hulu on Disney+ one-app experience for customers who subscribe to both services. Thanks to a licensing deal between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, that arrangement means that Disney+ and Hulu subscribers can now watch films from the two biggest comic book-based franchises in U.S. media — DC and Marvel — on one streaming app.
Key Details Disney+ has been home to movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years but has never offered DC movies until now. Viewers can stream “The Batman” and “Joker” on Disney+ if they also have a Hulu subscription.

There have effectively been innumerable versions of Batman, both in the comics and in live-action and TV series depictions. While the character in itself has been utterly dark in quite a few of them, arguably none came closer to Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder’s version of the caped crusader, seen in the likes of Batman vs Superman, Justice League, and 2017’s Suicide Squad.
Ben Affleck’s Batman in Justice League (2017) | DC Studios
Of course, while Affleck’s violent and murder-loving iteration of Batman falls in line with the comics, it is also comprehensively different from the kind of Batman depictions that live-actions have traditionally seen. That appears to be down to Zack Snyder’s vision, as he explained in an interview how he sees the character of Bruce Wayne, and how his childhood trauma affects him as an adult.

Superman is set to be the first major installment of James Gunn’s new and improved Dcu. However, it seems that the shadow of the Dceu is never going to stop haunting WB, as Snyder’s version of the DC Mythos still seems to be the benchmark for a whole section of the fandom that the new Dcu is going to be measured against.

Despite all the efforts being taken to create a new cohesive universe that could bring fans a brilliantly shared continuity across multiple films, there seems to be a lot of criticisms that are being levied at the film without even a proper trailer or even a teaser. Filmmaker Joss Whedon has worked on several iconic films and television shows that have become an inseparable part of modern pop culture. However, he is also responsible for the lowest-rated Avengers film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Whedon worked on the theatrical cut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League after the latter departed the project.

However, Snyder’s original vision for the film was later restored with the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Meanwhile, Whedon’s theatrical cut was critically panned. Nonetheless, the two filmmakers possess opposite ideologies when it comes to one aspect of filmmaking. Here is the one Zack Snyder trait that Joss Whedon has vowed to never follow.

Bad sequels are far from a rarity, as there have been numerous instances where a sequel fails to recapture the original’s spirit, and Wonder Woman 1984 is no exception. Despite dropping the ball hard with the main conflict between Batman and Superman, Dawn of Justice did succeed in doing Diana Prince’s introduction to the Dceu justice.
Moreover, this was followed by arguably the best film in the Dceu, Wonder Woman, which made waves upon its release, making Gal Gadot one of the biggest names in the business. Unfortunately, the sequel failed to live up to its universally acclaimed predecessor, and its weak antagonist isn’t the lone aspect that contributed to it.

Throughout its run, the Dceu had a major villain problem, whether it be Steppenwolf in the theatrical version of Justice League or Enchantress in Suicide Squad.

Following the revelation that James Gunn & Peter Safran would be leading the Dceu in a completely new direction, a certain fan base persevered until the very end and held onto a glimmer of hope for a franchise that had already vanished. Yeah, we are referring to the DC fans who have taken to social media to unite behind the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. And it was all due to Warner Studios’ extreme mishandling of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, which led to its total destruction.

Zack Snyder’s take on the DC superheroes divided fans for a long time before the universe finally came to an end. Snyder fans loved his characters above all others but many DC fans pointed out the lack of comical accuracy in the Rebel Moon director’s projects. Snyder’s take on Batman during a recent podcast has fans convinced that he may not have understood the comic character very well.

Avengers filmmaker Joss Whedon famously jumped ship to DC to rewrite and finish Zack Snyder’s original Justice League. But a couple of years prior, Whedon was adamant that he wouldn’t do what Snyder has done for quite a few of his comic book properties.

There have been a few times where Snyder’s films have been watered down when they hit theaters. Moviegoers often see a slightly shorter version of Snyder movies than the movies the director envisioned in his head. This has resulted in Snyder releasing director’s cuts, which he’s become known for over the years. The director’s cuts show the actor’s full vision for his projects in all of its glory, with minimal or no interference from the studio.

There’s no doubt that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League once was an interesting project by Rocksteady. But, since its launch back in February, the game has quickly become infamous as one of the first big disappointments of the year. Right from the controversial decision to even make the game a single-player live service title to horrendous character choices, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has left a fork for Rocksteady as a developer.
Fans have been desperate for a game like Batman: Arkham Knight for years. Many believed that if Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice followed the same formula as the Batman title, it would’ve gone down in gaming history as one of the best. However, there’s still a chance for Rocksteady to make a comeback by finally using the Ninja Turtles IP combined with its experience with Arkham Knight.

We’ve known from the start that director Zack Snyder intended to released extended director’s cuts of his movies Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here), which were rated PG-13 in their shorter form. At the start of this month, we learned that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One has been given a R rating for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language. Now the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part Two has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, strong sexuality, nudity and some language.

Marvel and DC Comics have long served as twin colossi in the boundless universe of pop culture, inspiring legions of impassioned devotees. These two powerhouses of the comic book world have long been at odds, with fans fiercely defending their favorite superheroes and storylines. However, amidst the constant bickering and rivalry between Marvel and DC fans, there is one figure who has managed to earn respect and love for his achievements in the DC universe: Zack Snyder.

James Gunn has plans to bring the most ruthless assassin in the DC comics into his film universe. Gunn recently gave a hint that Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke will be a part of the Dcu. The supervillain is an archenemy of the Teen Titans and has also gone face-to-face with Batman and the entire Justice League. Gunn recently announced a Teen Titans project, which makes it even more convenient for a major Deathstroke appearance.

Slade Wilson, most notably known as Deathstroke is one of the most notable Teen Titans villains. The character did appear in Dceu in ‘Justice League’ but ever since then, fans have been asking for more.
Now when Gunn rebooted the cinematic universe and dubbed it Dcu, fans were expecting plenty of characters to make the jump, but only a few hoped that Deathstroke would make the cut.
Fans asked James Gunn whether he has plans for Deathstroke in the Dcu and to confirm with a wink if he does, and surprisingly, James Gunn winked, you can see the exchange below:
Deathstroke appeared in both cuts of ‘Justice League’ as he had dealings with Lex Luthor and wanted to get his hands on Batman by any means necessary. The character was played by an actor Joe Manganiello.

Could you turn down the exciting idea of George Miller, known for his mythological prowess, breathing new life into Chris Hemsworth’s Thor franchise? After the rollercoaster of feelings that Thor 4 elicited, the audience’s appetite for richness and depth in storytelling stands at an all-time high. Could the celebrated director of the highly acclaimed Mad Max series, with his legendary grasp of epic narratives, be the key to asundering the line of cold responses and rekindling the thunderous glory of Asgard? Maybe…
Miller’s approach resonates well beyond the box office; his canceled Justice League project, still a lament among superhero aficionados, serves as proof of the vision that could have reinvented DC’s pantheon.

To say Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a disappointment would be an understatement. Many believe that Rocksteady Studios, the minds behind the highly regarded Arkham series, seriously dropped the ball when working on the all-villains-led new title.

Back in March, we learned that playwright turned feature scribe Ana Nogueira had been tapped to pen the Teen Titans screenplay after impressing studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran with her work on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Nogueira was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie for Warner Bros. when the studio was developing a Sasha Calle-led The Flash spin-off. The Scarlet Speedster’s solo outing was in post-production at the time but the project was scrapped when Gunn and Safran took charge of DC Studios and moved on from Walter Hamada’s planned Dceu slate.

John Cena made his debut as Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, before going on to headline his own spin-off series. Peacemaker was a big success for Warner Bros./DC, and a second season is currently in production for the Max streaming service.
Gunn has already confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will be set after the events of Superman Legacy, and that the movie will "have an impact" on the show. Does this mean we can expect to see Smith or some other Peacemaker characters appear in the Dcu Man of Steel reboot?
Cena was asked about the possibility of showing up in future Dcu projects during an appearance at Comicpalooza, and while he brilliantly evaded the question, his response did seem to suggest that he may know a little more than he's willing to divulge.

The best days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are behind it, and I don't just mean the fall from its decade-long box office throne. Any media that reaches pop culture omnipresence like Marvel movies did inspires a counterwave of backlash -- it's just the way the discourse flows. And with the MCU, there's a lot to critique.
There's shoddy filmmaking, the centering of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as the creative glue, the cheap self-deprecating humor that's spread its roots across Hollywood (e.g. Netflix's live-action "Cowboy Bebop"), and the aimless, complicated-yet-simplistic narrative that exists in service of nothing but its further propagation. That last issue is inherited from Marvel Comics, yet if you dive into current Marvel comics, you'll find one all-too-aware series that is weaving MCU critique into its (meta)text. That series is Al Ewing's "Immortal Thor".

He who watches the watchmen must light the lantern. Damon Lindelof, who ran HBO’s adaptation of Watchmen, will now take charge of a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns. And he’s not the only major name attached.
As James Gunn posted on social media over the weekend: “Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns Dcu series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”
Outside of Watchmen, Lindelof was of course a key contributor to Lost. As Gunn noted, Lanterns will also feature work by Ozark’s Chris Mundy and DC comics staple Tom King. Others that have been tied to the show include The Strain’s Justin Britt-Gibson, The Penguin’s Brennah Gibson and Animal Kingdom’s Vanessa Baden Kelly.
