The Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my favourite movies. The adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s first Ripley novel is a twisty tale of deception and murder, which features a fantastic ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jude Law. Every element really came together perfectly, but Jude Law almost didn’t take part as he initially turned down the project.
While speaking with Vanity Fair, Jude Law revealed his fears of being typecast and the terrible advice he received from his agent at the time, which caused him to turn down The Talented Mr. Ripley.
“It’s not something I’ve necessarily ever shed light on before, but it’s certainly something that I’ve become aware of the older I’ve gotten. The reason I had that reaction [to Ripley] had a great deal to do with one of the agents I was with at the time,...

Despite dystopian fantasy novels filling up bookstores on every street corner around the world, only a rare few manage to never go out of stock. It may be as ancient as J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit (1937) or as recent as Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games (2008), but the allure of escaping into a universe beyond one’s imagination never fails to attract crowds of fans thirsty for an escape.
Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games: Catching Fire [Credit: Lionsgate Films]The maddeningly captivating lore of Suzanne Collins’s Hunger Games plays with the audience’s imagination on a level never foretold before. Like J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology of Middle-earth, J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts, and George R.R. Martin’s Westeros, the dystopian city of Panem that serves as the setting of the Hunger Games then ushers in a world crafted by an excess of violence, control, power, political machinations, and tragedy.

Suzanne Collins’s bank account volunteers as tribute!
The creator of the wildly popular “Hunger Games” series has put pen to paper and will release a fifth volume in her dystopian book franchise for young adult readers, as per a report by the Associated Press. “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is expected to hit shelves on March 18, 2025, and will further develop the mythos of the post-apocalyptic fascist government whose society is somehow dependent on teen gladiatorial events.
The 61-year-old writer, whose career began working on Nickelodeon shows like “Clarissa Explains it All,” “The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo,” and “Wow! Wow! Wubzy!” has sold an estimated 100 million copies of her “Hunger Games” novels thus far.
The initial book trilogy was of course adapted into a wildly popular four-part film series starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, and featured a slew of festively dressed side characters played by Stanley Tucci,...

Considering Quentin Tarantino’s close bond with Uma Thurman, it was practically destiny that daughter Maya Hawke would work with him. Maybe destiny isn’t the right word…perhaps what we’re looking for here is nepotism, that naughty word in Hollywood that sees children of celebrities being given opportunities because of who their parents are. But Maya Hawke isn’t bothered by nepotism one bit. In fact, she’s well aware that that’s why she was cast in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In a piece in The Times, Maya Hawke acknowledged that Tarantino most certainly cast her as one of Charles Manson’s followers because of her parents, Thurman and Ethan Hawke. “I’ve been wildly made fun of for this clip when I said, on the red carpet, that I auditioned…I never meant to imply that I didn’t get the part for nepotistic...

Edward Norton is quite vocal about his admiration for veteran filmmaker Spike Lee. The actor could not understand why a lot of people sleep on his talent, but the Red Dragon star would not let unfair criticism taint the director’s reputation.

They worked together on the 2002 drama film 25th Hour, but even before that, he was already following the works of Lee.
Edward Norton Defends Spike Lee As A Filmmaker
During his interview via Gainsville Sun, actor Edward Norton confessed he’s a die-hard Spike Lee fan. He also thinks the filmmaker’s projects are underappreciated.
I wrote him a letter after He Got Game. I really loved that movie, and I thought people missed it. It had a lot of texture and layers. There is a lot of room for the actor and the audience in Spike Lee movies.

In Netflix’s Ripley — Steven Zaillian’s foray into the world of con man Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott) based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley — Eliot Sumner’s Freddie Miles is English. Considering that in both the book and previous 1999 movie, the character is very American, the singer-actor took a risk with the audition.
“I got sent the audition in February 2021, and this was still pandemic time, so I’d been doing a lot of tapes but not getting much work, and this one comes up and I couldn’t really believe it,” says Sumner, whose parents are Sting and actress Trudie Styler. “I thought that I definitely wouldn’t get it. I did it the way that I heard it in my head, and I risked it all by playing Freddie as an English person. Intuitively, I thought it might add some contrast to the rest of the characters.

“Twisters,” set to be released July 19 and one of IndieWire’s most anticipated movies of summer 2024, arrives a whopping 28 years after the original “Twister” landed in theaters. That was the perfect amount of time for a whole fandom to spring up around the 1996 movie, with devotees obsessed with its scrappy stormchasers in it for the science, all vying with evil meteorologists only in it for the money (because meteorology is such a lucrative field!), its windblown CGI cattle, Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton’s make-the-most-of-it line readings, and Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his best early roles.
Glen Powell, the star of “Twisters,” alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, shares that fandom. During a recent interview with Powell, this writer mentioned how much I love the original film and how unique it is as a “comedy of remarriage.” It’s the specific type of screwball comedy that’s about a separated couple...

Oscar-nominated actor John C. Reilly is also known for his prolific stage work, but broke into film with a small role in Brian DePalma‘s “Casualties of War” and carved out a successful career as a young character actor for years after that. He finally came to the public’s attention in a big way as a lovable porn star in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “Boogie Nights” (1997). Since then, Reilly has proceeded to steal films in supporting roles and has even headlined more than a few movies himself.
Reilly received an Oscar nomination in Rob Marshall‘s 2002 Best Picture winner “Chicago” for his performance as the schnook of a husband to Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger). In the course of his career, Reilly has earned four Golden Globe nominations and won a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the ensemble of “Chicago,” as well as three additional SAG nominations. After his sortie with fantastical drama Poor Things (garlanded with no less than four Oscars), Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos returns with Emma Stone in Kinds Of Kindness which is more in touch with the sensibilities and ethos of his arresting earlier works such as The Lobster, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer and Dogtooth.
Kinds Of Kindness consists of three interconnecting stories all of which display his idiosyncratic flights of fancy. In the first Jesse Plemons, who has the demeanour of a young Philip Seymour Hoffman, is in the thrall of his tyrant of a boss (Willem Dafoe), who exerts control over every detail of his life. When he is asked to do an unthinkable task he discovers that a woman (played by Emma Stone) is in the same dilemma. Finally he is unsure if he actually wants the freedom at the end of the tunnel.
In the second segment Plemons again.

Chicago – One of Chicago’s icon theater actors … Michael Shannon … is performing again in town, in the company that he co-founded. Red Orchid Theatre presents Michael Shannon and Travis A. Knight in the World Premiere of “Turret” by Levi Holloway, now at the Chopin Theatre through June 9, 2024. For tickets and info, click Turret.
Two men (Shannon and Knight) survive in a facility deep underground somewhere in the wild woods of the Pacific Northwest, hiding away from something terrible from the outside. Ensnared in a relentless loop of endless tomorrows, they discover the wolf isn’t at the door, it’s already inside, waiting in the creeping darkness all around them. “Turret” is an excavation of masculinity, love, loss and isolation, and a claustrophobic carnival of carnage, carrier pigeons, cribbage, whiskey, music, mischief and mayhem.

It's been 28 years since Jan De Bont's "Twister" ripped through theaters and whipped up a $496 million worldwide gross. In the meantime, it's become a weekend cable mainstay, where viewers can tune out its wafer-thin plot and simply enjoy the foul weather spectacle. It's far from a classic, but its visual prowess is undeniable, and its colorful cast of storm chasers led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt seem to be having a ball. Any film that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Todd Field, and Lois Smith is bound to be fun on some level.
So why has it taken so long for Universal to make a sequel to the second-highest-grossing film (domestically) of 1996?
"Twisters" didn't exactly have a stormy development process, but it did go through a couple of iterations over the last four years. Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct in early 2020. When that fell through,...

Drew Barrymore went in a different direction in the ’90s, as the long-time star has now confirmed that she once opted to play Cinderella instead of a porn star. The actress recently shared on an episode of her eponymous talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via The Hollywood Reporter) that she did in fact turn down a role in “Boogie Nights.” Barrymore has long been rumored to have been considered for the Rollergirl part, which later went to Heather Graham.
“It’s so hard when you, like, are thinking of doing a film and then you don’t end up doing it,” Barrymore said. “I have so many of those experiences. I’ve never said this out loud, ‘Boogie Nights.’ There was a moment where we were talking about ‘Boogie Nights’ and I think it’s when I went and did ‘Ever After’ [‘A Cinderella Story’] and I went in a very different direction.

Fred Schepisi is set to direct Israel-based thriller “The Dimona Affair,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The project is based on the story of a whistleblower who claimed Israel was building a nuclear weapons program. (The country has always denied it has nuclear weapons).
After giving The Sunday Times of London a detailed interview about the program in the 1980s, causing an international scandal, “low level” Israeli nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu fled the country. He was then reportedly lured to Rome by a female Israeli secret service agent in a honeytrap operation where he was kidnapped and repatriated to Israel. Vanunu eventually stood trial for espionage and treason before being convicted and jailed.
Schepisi, whose last feature project was “Words and Pictures” starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binochein 2013, is set to direct from a script penned by screenwriter and investigative journalist Morrie Rosmarin.

Tom Ripley has become a genre in himself. In 1955, author Patricia Highsmith published “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” a viciously smart psychological thriller featuring an all-time villain at its center. A small-time con artist who slithers him way into the social circle of a rich playboy he develops a consuming obsession with. Both charming and horrifying, with a thirst for wealth that’s equally as relatable as it is repulsive, Ripley burns on the page as an absolutely indelible character.
Unsurprisingly, Ripley has become the type of juicy role that actors kill to play. And that’s lead to three genuinely great adaptations of the novel. The book first found its way onto screen as “Purple Noon,” starring a prime Alain Delon as Tom Ripley. And then, of course, there’s the acclaimed 1999 adaptation from director Anthony Minghella, featuring an all-star cast led by Matt Damon as the title character with Jude Law,...

Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, is a watershed thriller for its critique of class, its queer undertones, and its enduring legacy. The novel inspired multiple sequels, as well as several film adaptations, the most significant of which was Anthony Minghella’s Oscar nominated 1999 film of the same name.
Showtime commissioned a series based on the original book from writer/director Steve Zaillian back in 2021, but the project eventually went to Netflix. Now the eight episode limited series is out in full, and the new iteration is more sumptuous, more faithful to the source material, and more queer (from a contemporary perspective) than any other iteration.

At the inaugural Academy Awards in 1929, native Pennsylvanian Janet Gaynor made history as the first American-born performer to win an Oscar by taking the Best Actress prize for her body of work in “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.” Over the subsequent 95 years, 215 more thespians originating from the United States won the academy’s favor, meaning the country has now produced 68.1% of all individual acting Oscar recipients. Considering the last decade alone, the rate of such winners is even higher, at 70.3%.
At this point, 96.8% of American-born acting Oscar victors have hailed from one of 34 actual states. Of those constituting the remainder, three originated from the federal District of Columbia, while four were born in the territory of Puerto Rico. New York (home to 49 winners) is the most common birth state among the entire group, followed by California (34), Illinois (13), Massachusetts (11), and Pennsylvania (11).

Los Angeles, March 10 (Ians) ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ star Lily Gladstone, who’s a huge fan of Cate Blanchett, recently told ‘People’ magazine that she was disappointed when her “ultimate actress” did not win the Academy Award for her role as Elizabeth I in Shekhar Kapur’s 1998 biographical period drama, says The Hollywood Reporter.
“I have idolised Cate Blanchett since I was a teenager. I think she is the great talent of this generation.”
At the 71st Academy Awards, Blanchett was nominated alongside Fernanda Montenegro, Meryl Streep, Emily Watson and Gwyneth Paltrow, who ultimately won the Oscar for ‘Shakespeare in Love’, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

The Oscars witnessed one of the saddest moments when the late Heath Ledger won the Oscar for Best Supporting Role for playing Joker in The Dark Knight. The entire industry was in tears as the actor, unfortunately, passed away before getting to witness his magnificent achievement. While nobody could comprehend the untimely loss of such a gem of an actor, Robert Downey Jr.’s heartbreaking reaction at the moment caught the attention of several fans.
Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight
Robert Downey Jr. was one of the nominees for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar alongside Heath Ledger in the 2009 Oscars. While everybody was almost sure Ledger would win the award for his exceptional performance as the Clown Prince of Crime, other prominent actors like Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Michael Shannon were also in the race.
Heath Ledger’s demise had a heavy impact on Robert Downey Jr.

Last year, all four acting Oscars were taken home by first-time nominees. Michelle Yeoh (Best Actress), Jamie Lee Curtis (Best Supporting Actress), and Ke Huy Quan (Best Supporting Actor) all won for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” while Brendan Fraser claimed Best Actor for “The Whale.” This was a historical achievement as the last time this happened was back in 2006 when Philip Seymour Hoffman (Best Actor for “Capote”), Reese Witherspoon (Best Actress for “Walk the Line”), George Clooney (Best Supporting Actor “Syriana”), and Rachel Weisz (Best Supporting Actress for “The Constant Gardener”) all won on their first nominations.
But while it’s unlikely for all four acting categories to go to newbies, what about each individual acting category? Well, we’ve broken down each acting category and examined every acting winner of the last 20 years to see which category is most likely to award newbies and which is most reluctant to.

Barry Egan is not a particularly easygoing guy. The protagonist of Paul Thomas Anderson's 2002 film "Punch-Drunk Love" is socially awkward, highly anxious, and clearly has trouble regulating his emotions in a healthy way. When he calls a phone sex line, it's because he's lonely and just wants to connect with another person. But as played by Adam Sandler, who was exclusively known for his comedic work until then, Barry becomes someone the audience roots for. Since we have a history with Sandler as someone who has made us laugh, we're perhaps more endeared to this eccentric character than we might've been otherwise.
Anderson knew this -- he was dead set on casting Sandler in "Punch-Drunk Love" from the moment he came up with the concept -- and saw potential in Sandler that no other director had seen at that point. By hiring him to star in this small, bizarre romance,...

Dakota Fanning’s Marge Sherwood describes Tom Ripley as an untrustworthy liar who takes advantage of people in the official trailer for Netflix’s Ripley. The limited series stars All of Us Strangers‘ Andrew Scott in the titular role and is based on Patricia Highsmith’s popular Tom Ripley novels.

Author Patricia Highsmith’s “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and all the subsequent novels are obviously huge in the literary canon of crime and psychological thrillers. The books have been adapted for the screen several times, perhaps most famously in “Purple Noon” (1960) starring Alain Delon and perhaps the much-more famous “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999), starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman (what cast).

For the past six years in a row, the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor has gone to men with more than 35 minutes of screen time in their respective films. Although four of last year’s nominees could have bucked that trend, the academy chose to keep things consistent by honoring Ke Huy Quan’s especially lengthy performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” By appearing in a whopping 58 minutes and 33 seconds (or 42.03%) of the Best Picture winner, he more than comfortably surpassed his category’s screen time average and came within nine minutes of outpacing every previous supporting male victor.
Quan’s performance is the second longest in his film, as he and his Best Actress-winning on-screen wife, Michelle Yeoh, are separated by 36 minutes and 43 seconds (or 26.35%). Directly below him is Stephanie Hsu – who earned a supporting bid as his character’s daughter – at 42:18 (30.36%). Considering all 87 featured male turns that have merited Academy Awards,...

American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatest actors of his generation. Hoffman played several iconic characters on stage, film, and television, as a leading man or in supporting roles. Although he had a reputation for playing misfit and creepy characters, few actors could fully inhabit any role as he did. Philip Seymour Hoffman’s acting versatility was known to all and sundry. Although he didn’t fully get the accolades he deserved, his performances have continued to leave audiences in awe, irrespective of generation. In what feels like yesterday, February 2024 marked a decade since the death of Philip...

Before Blu-ray or DVD, before you could just open up an app on your phone and stream things, there was the beloved VHS tape, that most bulky of physical media. Whether you rented them from Blockbuster, owned a library of them and organized them neatly in the shelves running alongside your home entertainment center, used them to record your favorite movies or TV shows, or simply prayed for your teacher to pull one out on a Friday afternoon in middle school, the VHS tape was king of ’80s and ’90s home media.
There was simply nothing better than the experience that came with popping one of these bad boys into your Vcr — unless the film was a stinker, of course, but then again, you probably still at least remember watching it, unlike so much of the mindless filler on today’s streamers. Nepotism in the entertainment industry has always been a contagious and concerning issue that often invites controversies as it subjugates talented individuals who do not possess the same influential connections. Such was the case with Maya Hawke, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. The 25-year-old actress has appeared in a plethora of popular projects like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Stranger Things, Asteroid City, and many more.

However, it looks like the young star is suffering from the repercussions of her statements, which she said in a recent interview that bred resentment and hate among people. Maya Hawke fought the ‘nepo-baby’ status by proving her talent, but she believes that without her parent’s influence, she would not have enjoyed the same success.

As of this writing the combined predictions of Gold Derby users lean towards Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) with 17/5 odds in this year’s Oscar race for Best Actor. Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”) is close behind in second place with 69/20 odds. However, the former may have more going for him. Here are five reasons why I think Murphy is the favorite.
SEEOscars: Will ‘Oppenheimer’ or ‘Poor Things’ win all three design awards?
1. He’s starring in the Best Picture frontrunner
“Oppenheimer” is expected to be quite a juggernaut on Oscar night. It’s currently predicted to take home eight accolades: Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Score and Best Sound. With that in mind, it’s possible that Murphy could be carried along in the sweep. He’s the face of the whole thing and carries the film on his shoulders.

As Denis Villeneuve prepares to release the hotly anticipated conclusion to his Dune saga, Dune: Part Two, fans still lament one tragic loss that deprived the sci-fi sequel of a potentially legendary performance: Philip Seymour Hoffman as the devious face-dancer Scytale.
Hoffman, widely considered one of the greatest actors of his generation thanks to raw, Oscar-winning performances, died suddenly in 2014 from a drug overdose at age 46. In the years since, fans have continued mourning both the man and the incredible actor, including his absence from potential future roles like the cunning Dune shapeshifter Scytale or perhaps even Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

There’s a saying over here in the UK about London buses. You wait so long for one and then two turn up at once. That notion could play out at this year’s Academy Awards as this 2024 ceremony could be the second in a row where all four acting winners are rookie nominees.
This happened last year when Michelle Yeoh edged out Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) to win Best Actress for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” while her co-stars also emerged victorious. The disaster film Twister (watch it Here) was a massive success for Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment when it was released during the summer movie season in 1996. Made on a budget of $90 million, it earned almost $500 million at the global box office and ranked as the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. Quickly cashing in with a sequel would have made a lot of sense. But while there were rumors – including a memorable one that said the sequel would involve a tornado hitting a major city – a follow-up never made it into production. Until now. Universal and Amblin are reviving the Twister IP with a film called Twisters, which is set to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Twenty-eight years later, will it be able to replicate or surpass the success of its predecessor? We’ll have to wait and see. But for know, we’re going to...

The Talented Mr. Ripley novel has already been adapted countless times, but it will become a TV series for the first time later this year.
A series adaptation was announced to be in the works at Showtime several years ago, but we learned a year ago that Netflix had taken over the project.
It’s a good move because Netflix’s global reach has proven crucial to the success of shows in the past.
Even acquired shows are getting a second chance at life. Suits staged quite the comeback on the platform years after its cancellation and is now getting an LA-set spinoff.

In 2006, a movie came out starring Daniel Craig, Sandra Bullock, Sigourney Weaver, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, Isabella Rossellini, Peter Bogdanovich, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Toby Jones. That’s a murderer’s row of talent bringing to life writer/director Douglas McGrath’s script — and very few people paid it much mind. But “Infamous” was a victim of bad timing, not bad filmmaking.
One can’t blame audiences for greeting it with a collective shrug. McGrath’s movie tackled the exact same topic as the previous year’s “Capote” (the movie that earned Philip Seymour Hoffman his first and only Oscar): Truman Capote’s time spent researching and writing his true-crime classic “In Cold Blood.” After the buzzy release of “Capote” and months spent in awards season campaigning mode, no one was ready to revisit the subject.
What a shame, because “Infamous” restores much of what was missing from Bennett Miller...

“Don’t breathe. Don’t look back,” commanded the tagline for the movie Twister from 1996. Apparently, that’s not a warning that Universal Pictures wants to heed. Instead, they’re looking back to the ’90s with a new adventure about storm chasers and the flying cows in their wake with the upcoming sequel Twisters.
That said, first trailer for Twisters features no familiar faces. Not only do we see no characters played by actors who sadly passed in the interim, such as Bill Paxton’s Bill or Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Rusty, but also missing is Helen Hunt’s protagonist Jo.
In their place is a new cast, primarily Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) as Kate Cooper and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as Tyler Owens. Based on the trailer, the script by Mark L. Smith focuses on the braggart Tyler luring Kate back into the world of stormchasing after an expedition gone wrong.

Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung broke out with 2020’s “Minari,” which landed multiple Oscar nominations including two for Chung (Best Director and Best Original Screenplay) and Best Picture. (The film won an Oscar for Yuh-Jung Youn in Best Supporting Actress.) Now, four years later, Chung is back and with an expected follow-up: “Twisters,” a sequel to 1996’s blockbuster hit “Twister.”
Universal debuted the first trailer for “Twisters” during Sunday’s Super Bowl, and the spot immediately spiked online interest in Chung’s first studio picture thanks to the way the spot teases the film’s massive set pieces and star appeal courtesy of Glen Powell. The first trailer for the upcoming non-sequel Twisters has arrived, taking the Super Bowl by storm during its debut.
After a brief teaser during Super Bowl Lviii, the Twisters trailer hit the web, with the ominous warning that, “Whatever’s in there, it’s big and it’s moving fast.” We then get a hype call and response of, “If you’re feelin’ it” … “Chase it!” – which we have to admit would make a great tagline! The action only amplifies, with the warning that the team will be facing off against twin twisters, hence the movie’s title.
But lest you think this is a direct sequel to 1996’s Oscar-nominated Twister, you’ll notice that none of the surviving original cast members – Helen Hunt, Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz, and more – were featured. That’s because Universal’s Twisters doesn’t rely as much on the original as you’d think,...

Those words, delivered with a mixture of terror and excitement, tell viewers all they need to know about the chaos and carnage that a group of storm chasers is about to encounter in “Twisters,” a follow-up to the 1996 box office hit “Twister.” The disaster film aired its first trailer during the Super Bowl. Starring Glen Powell, who plays a self-described “tornado wrangler,” and Daisy Edgar-Jones as a scientist, the film is set for a July 19 release.
Billed as a “new chapter” of the original, the film is directed by Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, known for his film “Minari,” which shared an agricultural setting and little else with “Twisters.” Along with Powell and Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack and Maura Tierney round out the cast.
Powell is channeling a charismatic daredevil in the first look, declaring, “You don’t face your fears. You ride ’em.

Josh Brolin is the Oscar-nominated actor who has jumped back and forth between prestige projects and big studio titles, including his most famous role as the big purple bad guy Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: End Game” (2019). Let’s take a look back at 16 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.

As Brolin himself joked on an episode of “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” he got everything wrong for the first half of his career and only recently started getting it right. Brolin is perhaps being too hard on himself since he has had a very steady rise in show business...

Hello, and welcome to the Scene 2 Seen Podcast. I am Valerie Complex, an associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Today I’m chatting with Power Book III: Raising Kanan star, Patina Miller. As a major talent across film, television and musical theater Miller portrays Raquel “Raq” Thomas on the Starz original series which is coming up on the end of its third season.
Raising Kanan is the third show in the Power Universe. This one is about a young Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s character from the first series) and how he joins his family’s growing and dangerous drug business. It takes place in Queens, New York during the 1990’s.
Raq is the mother of Kanan. To Kanan, she might come across as affectionate, yet on the streets, she embodies the epitome of toughness, navigating the male-dominated world with a blend of coldness, determination,...

Amy Ryan will take over Tyne Daly’s role in Doubt: A Parable on Broadway after the star was unexpectedly hospitalized.
“Ms. Daly was unexpectedly hospitalized on Friday and unfortunately needs to withdraw from the production while she receives medical care; she is thankfully expected to make a full recovery,” the production said.
Ryan, a two-time Tony Award nominee for her performances in A Streetcar Named Desire and Uncle Vanya, will play Sister Aloysius opposite Liev Schreiber as starting Feb. 13. Isabel Keating, the understudy for the role, will continue to play the role for performances through Feb. 11.
“With respect and admiration for Tyne, we wish her the best and a quick recovery. We are grateful that Amy Ryan said yes – in a quick minute – to join our company and take on the role of ‘Sister Aloysius.’ We deeply appreciate Isabel Keating, who remarkably stepped in with a day of rehearsal...
