Apple TV+ has now released the new tense trailer for Presumed Innocent, the limited series coming to the streaming service courtesy of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams. The legal drama has Jake Gyllenhaal in for the fight of his life as he defends himself from allegations of murdering a peer with whom he shared a complicated entanglement. It doesn’t look good for Gyllenhaal’s character, as a plethora of evidence is working against him, and he can only continually profess his innocence.
The official synopsis reads,
“Gyllenhaal is set to star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor whose world is upended when a close colleague is murdered — and the evidence begins to point to Rusty himself. The role would be his first ongoing part in a TV series. Presumed Innocent was previously adapted for a 1990 feature film that starred Harrison Ford as Sabich, along with Bonnie Bedelia and Raul Julia.

The first Charles Addams' strip that might be considered a part of the Addams Family canon was published in the pages of the New Yorker on August 6, 1938. In it, a vacuum cleaner salesman stands just inside a large, creepy, obviously haunted mansion, addressing the denizens, a cadaverous vampire woman and a brutish bearded man. The salesman, unperturbed by his grim surroundings offers his sales pitch, declares that no well-appointed home should be without such an appliance.
58 of Addams' 1,300 cartoon strips would feature his oddball Family, a nameless clan of ghouls who cherished horror and death. Throughout the '40s, a central canon of Family members would solidify, and come to include a squat, beastly patriarch, his skeletal wife, their two murderous children, a witchy grandmother, a fecklessly weird bald uncle, and their Frankensteinian live-in butler. In Addams' strips, the Family would talk about how much they loved destructive storms, how...

In Apple’s Presumed Innocent teaser trailer, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich paints with a broad brush, making adultery sound like a fairytale in which the wolf wins, and love conquers all. Today, Apple TV+ dropped a steamy and intense-looking teaser for Presumed Innocent, the limited series coming to the streaming service courtesy of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.

Order in the court! The Apple TV+ series Presumed Innocent, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga, will arrive on the streaming platform earlier than anticipated. Previously scheduled for its premiere on June 14, the courtroom thriller comes to Apple TV+ on June 12. Inspired by the Alan J. Pakula-directed thriller of the same name, the original film starred Harrison Ford, Raul Julia, and Greta Scacchi. The newest version of Presumed Innocent hails from David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams, with Gyllenhaal and Negga commanding the drama.
Presumed Innocent revolves around a vicious murder that sends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office reeling when one of their representatives becomes a suspect in the crime. Kelley’s version is said to investigate themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to keep aspects of their life from falling apart.

David Seidler, the London-born playwright and screenwriter best known for “The King’s Speech,” has died while on a fly-fishing vacation in New Zealand, as per a report in The Guardian. His spokesperson said he was in the location he most revered, doing the activity he most loved when he passed: “It is exactly as he would have scripted it.” The winner of the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for the Colin Firth-led film was 86 years old.
Seidler’s career began in Australian television in the late 1960s. He came to the United States in the early 1980s, working for the soap opera “Another World,” then writing television movies like “Malice in Wonderland,” something of an early version of the series “Feud” as it concerned Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons starring Jane Alexander and Elizabeth Taylor. David Seidler, who won an Academy Award for writing the 2010 film The King’s Speech, died on Saturday at age 86. Longtime manager Jeff Aghassi said that Seidler died while fly-fishing, one of his favorite activities. “David was in the place he loved most in the world — New Zealand — doing what gave him the greatest peace, which was fly-fishing,” Aghassi said in a statement, per Variety. “If given the chance, it is exactly as he would have scripted it.” Seidler’s screen career started nearly 60 years ago when he wrote episodes for the Australia television series Adventures of the Seaspray. In the 1980s, he scripted episodes of the Days of Our Lives, Another World, and General Hospital. Seidler is also renowned for his biopic work, having co-written the TV movies Malice in Wonderland (starring Elizabeth Taylor) and Onassis: The Richest Man in the World (starring Raul Julia) and the feature film Tucker: The Man and His Dream...

Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film "The Addams Family," based on the New Yorker comic strips by Chas Addams and extrapolated from the 1964 sitcom of the same name, was a pop culture clarion call for aspiring young goths the world over. The Addams Family were a gaggle of murderous weirds who lived in a haunted mansion, kept a severed human hand as a pet, and regularly engaged in cute family games wherein they exhumed long-dead relatives. They loved blood, sex, and magic. It's possible they were immortal; the young Wednesday (Christina Ricci) regularly murdered her brother Pugsley (Jimmy Workman). Morticia (Anjelica Huston) and Gomez (Raul Julia) were sexually active to an enviable degree, perhaps standing as one of the healthiest, most sex-positive couples in movies at the time. They were full of zest and joie de vivre. Only they were obsessed with death, so perhaps the term should be joie de mourir.

William Hurt died on March 13, 2022, at age 71, just a week short of his 72nd birthday. The Oscar-winning actor starred in a variety of movies over the last four decades, but how many of those titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1950, Hurt made his movie debut with a starring role in Ken Russell‘s psychedelic thriller “Altered States” (1980), quickly followed by Lawrence Kasdan‘s classic neo-noir “Body Heat” (1981). He won the Oscar as Best Actor just four years later for Hector Babenco‘s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1985), playing a transgender inmate at a South American prison who forms a bond with his cellmate (Raul Julia), a political prisoner. The role brought him additional prizes at BAFTA and the Cannes Film Festival.

In one of Charles Addams' original Addams Family comic strips for the New Yorker, we see Gomez, the family patriarch, perched by a large window in his sepulchral home, looking out the window. His children and wife are standing near him. Outside the window, an apocalyptic storm is raging. A tree has been stripped of its leaves and a home across the street appears to be blowing over. "Just the kind of day that makes you feel good to be alive!" Gomez comments.
Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film version of "The Addams Family" captures that outsider spirit. This iteration of the Addams Family values the gloom that most people eschew, presenting Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Houston) as horny, enthused monsters who you kind of fall in love with.

"Love is for suckers." Studiocanal UK has revealed an official trailer for a re-release of the 1982 film titled One from the Heart, Francis Ford Coppola's follow up to Apocalypse Now. One from the Heart: Reprise is a spectacular 4K restoration and reimagining of the 1982 cult classic – six minutes of footage were added to replace the original negative, previously thought to be destroyed, resulting in this brand-new "Reprise" version, approved by Coppola himself. The film tells the story of a Las Vegas couple (Teri Garr & Frederic Forrest) whose break-up on the 4th of July leads them both to a night on the strip in pursuit of romantic fantasies (Raul Julia & Nastassja Kinski). But in this town of gamblers and dreamers should they bet it all on dreams, or give true love another roll of the dice? "Featuring breathtaking design, show-stopping set pieces, the stunning photography of Vittorio Storaro and accompanied...

Talk to any true Francis Ford Coppola fan and it’ll take inside three minutes until they sing praises of One from the Heart, a film whose oddity and majesty is mirrored by its troubles: shot with the man’s own money on a post-Apocalypse jolt of creative energy, it caused such immense financial precarity that the next fifteen-or-so years were spent, in part, recouping what it took. (And hobbling ambitions to make Megalopolis in the process.) Its specter in his legacy is such that even fans who’d likely prefer it go untouched might understand why a recut-happy Coppola would next set his sights on the 1982 musical, which has been reshaped into One from the Heart: Reprise, now on a nationwide tour ahead of a (U.K.) 4K release arriving March 4.

Francis Ford Coppola adds a further six minutes, as One From The Heart Reprise is set to land on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in March.
While he puts together his pretty much self-funded $100m+ passion project Megaolopolis, Francis Ford Coppola is also continuing to tune some of his older movies. This time? It’s One From The Heart that he’s reworked, with a new edition of the film going by the name One From The Heart Reprise.
The movie dates back to 1982, and is a musical comedy drama that was heavily billed as from the director of The Godfather I & II and Apocalypse Now. The film being advertised was nothing like those though. It was headlined by Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr, Raul Julia, Nastassja Kinski, Lainie Kazan and Harry Dean Stanton, and it fell hard at the box office.

Francis Ford Coppola's 1982 musical "One from the Heart" opens with the rattle of a roulette pill over a black screen. The shouts and dings and hopes and hopes and lamentations of the casino are nowhere to be heard. It's just that damn ball clattering across that spinning wheel, daring bettors to pick a number and a color. When the rotation slows and the pill finds its slot, the red-light logo of Zoetrope Studios cuts through the dark of the theater.
Coppola's wager? Everything. He'd pushed all-in on the outsized dream of an artist-controlled movie studio nestled in the heart of Hollywood. Everyone who bought a ticket to see the film on opening day knew that the most celebrated filmmaker of the 1970s had risked it all to revolutionize an exclusionary industry. He wanted every craftsperson of every creed/color/class to soar as far as their talent would take them,...

Francis Ford Coppola has been thinking about utopia his whole career. His upcoming, self-financed epic Megalopolis is about just that. But his first experiment with utopia climaxed in 1980 with the creation of Zoetrope Studios, which he imagined would be its own top-to-bottom, all-encompassing, soul-enriching creative ecosystem free of Hollywood dysfunction. Its initial project was to be the hugely ambitious musical romantic drama One From the Heart, starring Teri Garr, Frederic Forrest and Raul Julia. The 1981 film may have bombed at the box office, but the story of its creation is far brighter, revealing how Coppola’s cast and crew came to believe in his grand vision, and helped him overcome financial disaster. As a new director’s cut of the film comes to New York’s IFC Center on Jan. 19 and L.A.’s Cinemathèque on Jan. 26, the following excerpt from Sam Wasson’s new book The Path to Paradise:...

Francis Ford Coppola’s “One From the Heart: Reprise” is getting a restored re-release.
The 1982 film, which follows a couple in Las Vegas, landed a “Reprise” cut with more than 19 minutes of additional footage in September 2023, debuting at the Venice Film Festival. Overseen by Coppola, the 4K restoration of the “Reprise” cut comes courtesy of distributor Rialto Pictures, which will release the film in select theaters on January 19.
“I’ve always loved ‘One from the Heart,’ despite the disruption it caused in my dreams for American Zoetrope,” Coppola said. “However, there is magic in cinema and while preparing this film for 4K, it was apparent I could refine the story. This new version is an improvement in many ways and I am proud of what was achieved with ‘One from the Heart: Reprise.'”
“One From the Heart” centers on Hank (Frederic Forrest} and Frannie (Teri Garr) who break up on their fifth anniversary.

While Francis Coppola plans to set cinema alight in 2024 with his final epic Megalopolis, the Oscar-winner will begin the year with a revisit of one his most misunderstood efforts, One From The Heart. That’s the 1981 picture that Coppola threw himself into so hard, creatively and financially, that his American Zoetrope had to declare bankruptcy when it failed to draw audiences. It took Coppola years to build back his fortune with film hits and a win empire, to the current situation where he was able to self finance the $100 million+ Megalopolis.

Exclusive: The upcoming documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplains Journey has received the rare honor of a screening at the Vatican.
The film written and directed by Rich Hull and Justin D. Roberts – a former combat chaplain himself – is produced by Paulist Productions and the U.S. Army Chaplains Corps, marking the first ever co-production between Hollywood and the chaplains corps. Built around the story of Emil Kapaun, a combat chaplain who died as a prisoner of war in North Korea in 1953, the documentary examines the ultimate sacrifice made by hundreds of U.S. military combat chaplains.
Capt. Emil Kapaun (right) helps another soldier carry an exhausted soldier off the battlefield early in the Korean War.
“In 2021, when the remains of former Pow/Mia Army combat chaplain Emil Kapaun, possibly the Vatican’s next saint, are identified after 70 years, much of the nation is captivated by their journey home,” notes a description of the film.

If all you knew about Francis Ford Coppola’s epic-scale 1982 musical “One from the Heart” was that it’s reportedly “brain food” for the “Joker” sequel “Folie à Deux”, you might think it was more successful. Coppola’s first film after a decade-long run that included two “Godfathers,” “Apocalypse Now,” and “The Conversation” is a nostalgic musical about two ordinary people trying to rekindle their romance on the outskirts of Las Vegas.
A kitsch throwback in the vein of “New York, New York,” it was an even bigger disaster, and ultimately more ruinous for its director. Costing nearly twice its initial $15 million budget (admittedly not a terrible ratio for Coppola), it grossed only $8 million. Within 18 months, Coppola’s studio was bankrupt and, by 1992, he’d filed for a third time.

Lance Reddick’s unexpected death in March 2023 halted a thriving acting career that consisted of many memorable performances, including several voice-over gigs on TV series like “Castlevania,” “Duck Tales” and “Rick and Morty.” In addition to half a dozen mid-production projects, his legacy could include a posthumous Emmy victory in honor of his vocal work on the Amazon Prime Video animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina.” After Chadwick Boseman, who won the 2022 Best Character Voice-Over prize for “What If…?” two years after his death, Reddick would be the second posthumous recipient of any voice acting Emmy.
Reddick joined the recurring cast of “The Legend of Vox Machina” in its second season, which concluded less than a month before he died. His character, Thordak, is the leader of a group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave, whose destructive plans are encumbered by the heroic, interspecific members of Vox Machina.

Ramon Rodriguez isn’t the first guy you’d think of when casting a television series role of an eccentric special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Foe one thing, he’s the literal antithesis of a Southerner, a Puerto Rican who grew up on the Lower East Side of New York (a self-styled “Nuyorican”). Perhaps this is one reason why Rodriguez admits he initially wasn’t interested when he was offered the titular role of detective Will Trent in the ABC police procedural “Will Trent.” “I originally passed on this project,” he says. “I wasn’t convinced that I was right for it. And it took me a while to wrap my head around the character. And doing a series is a really big commitment, so I first needed to know I could really tackle (the role) and be on the same page with the team.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

If you thought CinemaCon was the only game in town this Thursday, think again! The Hollywood Reporter says Talk to Me directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou are in talks to direct Street Fighter, Legendary’s adaptation of the classic fighting video game from Capcom.
Street Fighter is one of the most beloved fighting game franchises in history. The first game in the series, Street Fighter, hit arcades in 1987, followed by Street Fighter II in 1991. I was there, man. For both of them! I remember going to Nathan’s Famous restaurants to play the original, and it was a madhouse. People of all ages hooted and hollered around the Street Fighter cabinet as Ryu and Ken duked it out. There was something special about Street Fighter from the start, and the franchise grew with each iteration. I’ll never forget the first time I unleashed Blanka’s electric attack or Chun-Li’s Hundred Lightning Kicks.

Australian twin filmmaking duo Danny and Michael Philippou, who directed Sundance breakout “Talk to Me,” are in final talks to direct “Street Fighter” at Legendary, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Legendary secured an exclusive license to the live-action film and television rights for the iconic Capcom video game franchise earlier this month.
The first “Street Fighter” game was released in arcades in 1987 and has sold over 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. It featured two playable characters, Ryu and Ken, who traveled the world fighting other martial artists in a tournament. Despite its limited gameplay mechanics, the game was a hit and spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs.

When Steven E. de Souza embarked on his big-screen adaptation of Capcom's arcade classic "Street Fighter II," the transformative upgrade on the ho-hum original, he painted a fire-engine red target on his back. The A-list action screenwriter of "48 Hrs.," "Commando" and "Die Hard" had more than earned the opportunity to make his directorial debut, but, in 1994, no one took video games seriously as a storytelling medium — and for good reason! Aside from role-playing computer franchises like "Ultima," "The Bard's Tale" and "Final Fantasy," most non-sports-centric games were either side-scrolling quests with the most slender of narratives or button-mashing combat competitions.
"Street Fighter II" fell in the latter camp. No one chugged Mountain Dew until sunrise because they wanted to know M. Bison's backstory; they did so to exert their console-controller primacy over their friends and dormmates. But Capcom's PvP sensation was so wildly popular that the video game...

For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. Back in 1987, Capcom introduced the world to "Street Fighter," permanently changing the landscape of fighting games and birthing an extremely popular (and profitable) multi-media franchise. In the last 35 years, "Street Fighter" has spawned almost 150 different games, spin-offs, TV shows, movies, and appearances in other games. That number is about to get even bigger because, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Legendary Pictures — the folks who also put out "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Detective Pikachu," and "Dune" — have acquired the film and TV rights to "Street Fighter."
This is phenomenal news for fans of the classic fighting game, because Hollywood has a pretty disappointing track record with adapting "Street Fighter" for the big screen. Back in 1994, Universal released "Street Fighter: The Movie" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li,...

Legendary Entertainment has acquired film and television rights to the video game franchise “Street Fighter.” Any upcoming projects — including one feature film that’s already in the works — will be co-developed and produced in conjunction with video game distributor Capcom.
Since the franchise launched in 1987, Street Fighter has sold over 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. It also spawned other games, various spin-offs and crossovers featuring characters like Ryu, Ken, Chung-Li, Guile and M. Bison. Capcom is behind other popular games, such as “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter.”
Hollywood has yet to master a live-screen version of “Street Fighter,” though there have been several attempts. Universal’s 1994 action film “Street Fighter” — starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia — was a critical and commercial misfire, as was 20th Century Fox’s 2009 adaptation “Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li” with Kristin Kreuk.

Passing and Preacher actor Ruth Negga is joining Jake Gyllenhaal for Presumed Innocent, an upcoming limited series for Apple TV+. Gyllenhaal is in final negotiations to star in the project from David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV. Taking inspiration from Scott Turow’s courtroom thriller, Presumed Innocent revolves around a vicious murder that sends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office reeling when one of their representatives becomes a suspect in the crime.
Kelley’s version of the story is not the first time Turow’s tale has worked its way to screens. In 1990, a feature-length version starring Harrison Ford, Raul Julia, and Greta Scacchi hit theaters. The film, directed by Alan J. Pakula, earned 86,303,188 worldwide. Kelley’s version is said to investigate themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to keep aspects of their life from falling apart.

A quarter century after winning her third film acting Golden Globe, Ingrid Bergman was honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association one last time for her performance in the TV movie “A Woman Called Golda.” This victory was historic in that it occurred five months after her death, thus making her the only actress to ever win a Golden Globe posthumously. She also remains one of only two deceased female performers ever nominated by the HFPA, but the group could soon grow by one if the recently departed Charlbi Dean (“Triangle of Sadness”) lands in the 2023 Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress lineup.
Dean passed away at the age of 32 on August 29, 2022, which happened to be the 40th anniversary of Bergman’s death. Her performance as social media influencer Yaya in “Triangle of Sadness” has been heavily praised since the film premiered in Cannes this spring, and she now ranks eighth...

The 1990s Addams family movies are generally considered the best entries in the franchise (even if "Wednesday" is giving them a good run for their money), and for good reason. Sure, the jokes are hilarious — who would've thought that a couple of kids playing with a guillotine could be so funny — but the movie's true charm is the cast's chemistry. Whether Pugsley (James Workman) and Wednesday (Christina Ricci) are taking on girl scouts or Gomez (Raúl Juliá) and Fester (Christopher Lloyd) are enjoying a heartfelt reunion, it's heartwarming to see the morbid, eccentric family have each other's backs.
Of course, all of the family's interactions are fun, but there's one duo that truly takes the cake: Morticia (Anjelica Huston) and Gomez Addams, a devoted couple who are so passionately in love with each other that sparks fly whenever the pair is on screen. To be fair, even across other iterations,...

Many movie stars are making their way to television. Sylvester Stallone made his streaming series debut in Paramount+’s Tulsa King to much praise and a second season renewal. Harrison Ford will also be coming to TV in the Apple Original comedy, Shrinking. A previous film of Harrison Ford’s, Presumed Innocent, will now be re-adapted for Apple TV+ and word is, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in the leading role.
The Hollywood Reporter has the skinny on the project, which is an adaptation of a novel by author Scott Turow. Apple had ordered a season back in February with a heavy-hitting production team behind it. This team includes TV veteran David E. Kelley, as well as the co-creator of Castle Rock, Dustin Thomason, and producing juggernaut J.J. Abrams. Abrams’ Bad Robot will be producing in association with Warner Bros. Television which signed Bad Robot to a huge deal.

Jake Gyllenhaal may be making his way to Apple TV+.
The Oscar and Tony nominee is in talks to executive produce and star in the streamer’s Presumed Innocent, a limited series adaptation of Scott Turow’s best-seller. Apple TV+ ordered the drama to series in February with an A-list creative team that includes David E. Kelley, Castle Rock co-creator Dustin Thomason and J.J. Abrams.
Gyllenhaal is set to star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor whose world is upended when a close colleague is murdered — and the evidence begins to point to Rusty himself. The role would be his first ongoing part in a TV series.
Presumed Innocent was previously adapted for a 1990 feature film that starred Harrison Ford as Sabich, along with Bonnie Bedelia and Raul Julia. Kelley’s version will be a “reimagining” of Turow’s novel that will explore, per the show’s logline,...
