Zack Snyder's 2006 film "300," based on the comic book by Frank Miller, tells a hyper-stylized and not-the-least-bit-historically-accurate version of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) wherein 300 Spartan soldiers managed to fend off anywhere from 120,000 to 300,000 soldiers of the Persian Empire for three full days. Both Miller's book and Snyder's film present the Spartans as teeth-gashing, testosterone-spitting, Spam-scented beefcake slabs comprised of nothing but pectoral muscles, testicles, and homophobia. They speak in "Join the Marines" recruiting slogans and disparage anything that's not at least 4000% more masculine than a two-ton bag of Tom Jones' chest hair.
Speaking of chest hair, none of the Spartans have any, happy to parade around their cartoonishly cut physiques as if they all possess a severe shirt allergy. Leading the charge is King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), a man who cannot help but add multiple exclamation marks after every sentence he speaks.

One of Madonna‘s husbands directed a controversial music video for her. The violent clip was only played on MTV during certain hours. Arguably, the lyrics of the song in question were a lot more provocative than anything that happened in the video.
Madonna’s husband directed a music video about horrific road rage
Madonna was married to film director Guy Ritchie, known for films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and the live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin. His films are often violent. It was almost inevitable that Ritchie and Madonna would make a music video together and that it would be provocative.
During a 2002 interview with CNN, Madonna discussed working with her husband. “For a song called ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl,’ and I loved working with him on that,” the “La Isla Bonita” singer said. “And that we did a five minute...

Matthew Vaughn is a savvy filmmaker who should know his films, particularly when they go sailing over the top narratively and tonally — which describes pretty much all of them save for his 2004 debut directorial effort, "Layer Cake" and the open-hearted whimsy of "Stardust" — tend to divide critics. You either go with the rousingly ultraviolent superhero satire of "Kick-Ass," or you rage against its vile excesses, chief among them being the transformation of an 11-year-old into a gun-wielding, slicing-and-dicing whirlwind of death known as Hit Girl. He specializes in juvenile subversion, but if you can get past the giddy excess of his films, they occasionally contain a surprising degree of thematic depth.
Vaughn's 2024 flop "Argylle" was not, on any level, a thoughtful film. It's a star-studded stew of a spy-comedy romp that's meant as a one-and-done spinoff from the director's largely successful "Kingsman" franchise. On the surface, given its colorful assortment of celebrities,...

It also became a part of history as one of Disney’s most beloved animated features. The original movie featured the voice talents of Tate Donovan (as Hercules), Danny DeVito (as Philoctetes), James Woods (as Hades), and Susan Egan (as Megara), but the House of the Mouse thinks it is time for a remake and so a live-action version is coming along. “Criminal” is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The official description states that the series is “an interlocking universe of crime stories.”

Every time a popular franchise is revived, people tend to wonder if it was ever necessary. In the world of crime dramas, there's no source more popular than Agatha Christie's novels or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. No matter how many times these stories have been told, every producer and director wants to put their own spin on them.
Guy Ritchie tried his hand at Sherlock Holmes in 2009 and 2011, releasing two films, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, starring Robert Downey Jr. Both movies got decent reviews and a lot of happy viewers, but that wasn't enough. Now Ritchie is back with another project and another Sherlock.
Who Will Be the New Sherlock Holmes?
While the world is still wondering who will be lucky enough to play James Bond, it's not the burning question we should be asking. After the success of Robert Downey Jr.

After a stint as an obnoxious, loud American in The White Lotus, Theo James wanted to challenge himself by playing someone totally different. Enter Eddie Horniman, the reserved, British Duke thrown into an aristocratic weed-growing empire in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen. Not only was this an opportunity for a Godfather-style ascension story and a chance to work with the Lock, Stock director, but James was also excited to take some pot shots at the gentry that owns so much British land — much to the bemusement of the real-life Duke of Beaufort, whose estate was the location for the shoot.
Deadline: What got you interested in The Gentlemen role?

One thing that makes every TV show unique is the title. It should be catchy enough for viewers to remember and easy enough to roll off the tongue of fans in any conversation. The Big Bang Theory spinoff, Young Sheldon, hit the perfect spot, while also explaining to viewers what the show was about.

Developed by Amazon Prime Video, Young Sherlock will be a miniseries based on Andy Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novels. The show will delve deep into the moments that made Sherlock Holmes the genius that so many people have grown to love,...

Next year will be 40 years since the premiere of Barry Levinson’s and Chris Columbus’ Young Sherlock Holmes, in which Nicholas Rowe (now 57) portrayed a young version of the famous detective. The screenplay was just based on Doyle’s original characters and was supposed to present the famous detective to a younger audience. And while we were promised a sequel, it never happened and the movie became a part of history, and still a much-beloved children’s film. But, it has been confirmed that we are going to go back to a younger Sherlock Holmes, although in a somewhat different format.
Namely, Amazon Prime has confirmed that an eight-episode series titled Young Sherlock has been ordered, with a tentative release date set for sometime in 2025, although details on the series are still scarce, we do – as you will soon see – have some important updates for you.

While Robert Downey Jr. is known for his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU, he also portrayed Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the popular novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The actor reprised his role in the 2011 sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and was also set to appear in a threequel.
Amazon Prime Video announced recently that a series based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels would be in development with Guy Ritchie directing. This follows a trend of prequels and spinoffs of popular characters where the story follows a younger version such as Dexter, Young Sheldon, Ted, and more.

Last month Eddie Marsan faced a happy dilemma: two high-profile projects in which he co-stars –Apple TV+ series “Franklin” led by Michael Douglas and Sam Taylor Johnson’s highly-anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” – were both being released on the same day, April 12, in Marsan’s native U.K. (“Back to Black came out in the U.S. on May 17).
The resulting publicity maelstrom was, Marsan says, “intense.” And yet despite that, the actor – who has starred in over 150 screen projects including “Ray Donovan,” “Deadpool 2” and Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes,” can truthfully claim to be “not really that famous.”
Partly that’s because his highest profile roles in the U.S. have seen the East London-born actor putting on an American accent, including in “Franklin,” in which he plays the second U.S. President, John Adams. Marsan has a long history with the character, having once been...

14 years ago, we were all shocked by the new take on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it presented the new vision of our favorite detective and modernized the whole story of his exploits.
Just a year before that the world saw Guy Ritchie’s adaptation, set in the 1890s just like the canon, yet offered a more dynamic narration with lots of action sequences. This movie was received not as positively as the series that aired from 2010 to 2017, however, Reddit’s recent discussion concludes that Ritchie’s version holds up significantly better.
It was Redditor @saylorthrift who started this debate, and their hot takes surprisingly gained large support. Overall, it is stated that the 2009 movie has aged better than Moffat and Gatiss’ show because of its cast, setting, atmosphere, as well as screenplay.

Deadline reports that Hero Fiennes Tiffin of the After film series has signed on to star in the Young Sherlock series that has been ordered by Prime Video – and to clear up any possible confusion before it can arise: no, this is not a series reboot or continuation of the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which came to us from director Barry Levinson, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and producer Steven Spielberg. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Young Sherlock series of novels that author Andrew Lane started writing in 2010. That series was a response to the success Charlie Higson was having with his series of Young James Bond novels. Guy Ritchie is on board to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of Young Sherlock‘s first season. Ritchie, of course, has prior Sherlock Holmes experience, having directed Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and...

Prime Video has handed a series order to Young Sherlock, inspired by Andy Lane’s critically acclaimed Young Sherlock Holmes book series, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the title role. Guy Ritchie is set to direct and executive produce the eight episode series, which will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Written and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill, Young Sherlock is touted as an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series based on Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels with Hero Fiennes Tiffin set for the lead role, Variety has learned.
Guy Ritchie is attached to direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. It will be a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who recently worked together on the feature “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” It is also the latest Sherlock Holmes project for Ritchie, as he previously directed two films about the famous detective starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.
“In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.

Theo James will star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in British heist thriller Fuze, a film that comes with an explosive twist.
Theo James is one of those actors who seems to keep earning plaudits whatever he features in and as such, he’s got a couple of promising film projects in the pipeline. Chief among them? A starring role in David Mackenzie’s upcoming British heist thriller, Fuze.
James most recently starred in The Gentlemen, the small screen spin-off (pictured) from Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film. Before that, the British actor picked up plenty of critical praise for an excellent take on ‘the character you love to hate’ in Mike White’s second season of The White Lotus, the anthology drama series that has been praised by critics and audiences alike.

There are very few names in Hollywood as legendary as Quentin Tarantino. Having given some of the biggest cult classics of the last few decades, the director is rumored to be heading into retirement after completing his self-imposed quota of ten Hollywood projects.
While there were rumors that The Movie Critic starring both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise would be his final offering to Hollywood, the project has since been scrapped, with no update on how the director plans to proceed next. One potential option seems to be a one-off Sgt. Rock movie, which Tarantino had previously admitted he himself considered.

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare delivers an exciting but fictionalized account of Operation Postmaster — a British special operation at Bioko during World War II. The action war drama is based on Damien Lewis’ 2014 book, Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of The Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII. It stars Henry Cavill as Gus March-Phillipps, the late special operations veteran of the British Army awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his highly successful missions. In 1997, Disney released its animated film Hercules, which became a major hit globally. It earned an amazing $252.7 million on an $85 million budget, which was an exceptional amount of money back then, and it made history as one of Disney’s most beloved animated features. The original movie featured the voice talents of Tate Donovan (as Hercules), Danny DeVito (as Philoctetes), James Woods (as Hades), and Susan Egan (as Megara), some of who reprised their roles in the sequel animated series and the animated prequel. But, with Disney doing its series of live-action remakes of its animated classics, we know that Hercules is also being remade, and some recent rumors suggest that we have a chief candidate for the role of Megara!
These rumors come from Skyler Shuler, a well-known Disney insider, who has taken the time to answer some of the fans’ questions, one of which also had to do...

Following persistent rumors, we got word that Disney was officially moving forward with a live-action remake of Hercules back in 2022, with Aladdin director Guy Ritchie set to helm the project and Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo on board as producers.
Updates have been few and far between since then, and we're still waiting to find out which actors are going to bring life to the main characters.
Previous rumors have claimed that Taron Edgerton and Ariana Grande were up for the roles of Hercules and Meg, and while there's every chance they will end up being cast, we may be able to add another name to the mix for the movie's female lead.
According to reliable Disney source the DisInsider, pop megastar turned actress Dua Lipa might be a contender to play Meg. He doesn't say whether she's actually in talks, only that the studio "likes" her for the part.

While most of the hype is gained by actors, it is the writers’ guild who are unspoken heroes that deserve more recognition. The right screenplay and, in particular, the well-written lines make a movie catchy and unforgettable for the audience.
While Quentin Tarantino’s works are considered the best in this respect, there are some other films with perfect onscreen conversations. Here are 6 of them, picked by Reddit.
Snatch (2000)
Guy Ritchie’s iconic crime comedy about London’s criminal underworld is truly the right choice if you’re searching for a perfectly-written flick. The showdowns of small-time gangsters and powerful mafiosos are here extremely razor-sharp and entertaining.
True Grit (2010)
The Coen Brothers can certainly teach the art of dialogue, and it’s proved by their successful remake of the 1969 classic Western. The story of a girl on her way to avenge her father’s killer is enhanced by the writing...

Giancarlo Esposito doesn’t seem to have a lot of trouble finding work. The character actor extraordinaire boasts more than 200 credits on his IMDb page going back to the 1980s, and just in the past few years he’s recurred on “The Mandalorian,” “Godfather of Harlem,” “The Boys” and “Better Call Saul.” He’s a performer whose reputation precedes him, his screen presence consistently magnetic and oft intense. His career was supercharged by his portrayal of chicken entrepreneur and drug kingpin Gus Fring – first of “Breaking Bad” and then on “Saul.” Of his portrayal of Fring, he says, “I wanted to create a character who was formidable but who was (also) polite and graceful and who took care of his business family in a certain way. Reacher's back -- unfortunately, he's not alone. Author Lee Child's airport-paperback novel series famously stars a hero that can only be described as a walking, talking tank. Prime Video's "Reacher" series has neatly translated the franchise's popularity on the page to the streaming era, thanks in large part to Alan Ritchson (recently the scene-stealing star of Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare") as Jack Reacher. A far cry from Tom Cruise's capable (if not even remotely book-accurate) casting in the two movies, Ritchson embodies all the physicality described in the original books. After two successful seasons throughout the last few years, however, Reacher is due for his biggest challenge yet ... speaking extremely literally, of course.

Being presumably the most recognized action star of the 21st century, Jason Statham made his name known around the world with such staples of the genre, as Crank (2006), The Mechanic (2011), Wrath of Man (2021) and, of course, the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disappointingly, his last movie rated 70% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes was the 2015 hit Spy. Since then, Statham starred only in critically panned or even commercially failed flicks, however, this year Amazon released a movie that changed that trend
The plot revolves around Statham’s Adam Clay, a former secret agent who is enraged by the suicide of his landlady, caused by the loss of her charity's funds to a phishing scam.
Urging for revenge, Adam sets out a campaign against those responsible for that scam, and this operation promises to take on national stakes, as the guilty ones acknowledge he was a member of a powerful clandestine organization.
