Vincent Irizarry Has New Soap Gig
Vincent Irizarry’s most famous soap character was one of his shortest. He played Brandon ‘Lujack’ Luvonaczek on Guiding Light for just two short years before the character was killed off. He returned to the now-canceled CBS soap in 1991 as Lujack’s twin brother, Nick.
Irizarry went on to play characters such as David Hayward on All My Children and Deimos Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. Most recently, he portrayed Dr. Jordan Armstrong on The Bold & The Beautiful.

On Thursday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. Et/12:00 p.m. Pt, podcaster Alan Locher will be joined by several friends and former co-stars of Marj Dusay, the beloved actress who portrayed such memorable characters as Alexandra Spaulding on “Guiding Light” and Vanessa Bennett on “All My Children,” among others, for a special tribute episode of “The Locher Room” dedicated in her honor.
Actors Vincent Irizarry, Ron Raines and Nicholas Walker, each of whom played a family member of one of Dusay’s characters throughout her daytime drama career, are set to appear on the live show.
On “All My Children,” Irizarry portrayed David Hayward, the eldest child of Dusay’s scene-stealing character. He played a similar capacity on “Guiding Light,” where he appeared as Alexandra’s twin boys, Brandon “Lujack” Luvonaczek and Nick McHenry-Spaulding. On the CBS soap, Raines portrayed Alan Spaulding, Alexandra’s brother.

Vincent Irizarry is on his way to “The Bold and the Beautiful” to play Dr. Jordan Armstrong starting on Monday, August 26. The daytime veteran explained to TV Insider, “This was at the request of Brad Bell [executive producer/head writer]. He reached out to my [representatives] and I learned that they had this role they’d like me to do. It’s recurring and I can say that it has to do with the baby reveal [that Phoebe is really Beth]. I’ll be playing opposite all the main characters.”
The actor is no stranger to soaps. Far from it. He got his start on “Guiding Light,” where he earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Younger Actor in 1986 for playing Lujack Luvonoczek. After that character was killed off he spent a couple of years on “Santa Barbara” before returning to “Gl” as Lujack’s twin brother Nick from 1991 to 1996.

TCM took over the famed Chinese Theater in Hollywood for four days earlier this month for its 10th annual classic film festival. Network honchos hailed the festival as their biggest ever with 129 separate events. The film screenings had movie fans scrambling all over town for viewings, discussions and info sessions, sometimes successfully and sometimes with disappointing results. Below, take a look at my first-hand account covering the 2019 TCM Film Festival for Gold Derby.
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan reunited for the opening night screening of “When Harry Met Sally,” which celebrated the film’s 30th anniversary. Along with director Rob Reiner, the two provided many memories of the film and yes, of course, reminisced about the film’s famous delicatessen scene. Crystal was also honored the next day by having his footprints placed in the forecourt of the famed Hollywood landmark theater.

From the first time I saw it until this moment, two days before what might just be the most important, potentially resonant (for good and ill) American presidential election since the days of the Civil War, no other movie has expanded in my view more meaningfully, more ambiguously, with more fascination than has Robert Altman’s Nashville. We often hear of movies which “transcend” their genres, or their initial ambitions or intentions, and often built into that alleged transcendence is a condescension to said genre, or those ambitions or intentions, as if the roots were somehow corrupt or unworthy, in need of reconstruction. If the form of Nashville transcends anything, it’s the shape and scope of the multi-character drama as we’d come to know it in 1975, which was dominated at the time by disaster movies and their jam-packed casts filled with old Hollywood veterans and Oscar winners. But...

The poster for Pulp Fiction, as a Zx Spectrum loading screen? We've got 22 movie posters right here...
Because it’s Friday, we figure we’re allowed to do this. That said, any piece for the site that could overlap the beloved Zx Spectrum with movies is always something we’re likely to be fair game for. But we'll stick with the Friday excuse for now.
Many of us on the site were children of the Zx Spectrum (metaphorically speaking, lest you feel we’re low rent versions of what happens – spoiler – at the end of Superman III). And one of the charms of the Spectrum home computer was the loading screen that it took 30 seconds or so to draw, while you were waiting for Daley Thompson’s Decathlon to load.

The PC has been host to some classic video games, and we salute 50 underrated examples from the Ms-dos era.
This article first appeared at Den of Geek UK.
I’d had a PC for a little while by the early '90s, a rather bleak looking 286 with kilobytes of memory. After saving up though, I took the plunge one day and purchased a shiny new 486 DX2-66, with many megabytes of memory and an Ati Mach 32. With that extra power unleashed, Dos gaming had me hooked once more. And it was amazing. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Doom, and many more took over my life, and my money was spent back in the local computer shops.
Join us now as we tweak our Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files and take a look at 50 underappreciated Dos games from various years. Those games that no one ever seems to mention...

Robert Altman’s Nashville resurfaces for the home video market in a nicely packaged DVD/Blu-ray combo set from Criterion. A Best Picture nominee from 1975, this sprawling satire both lampoons and laments the American Dream, which was beginning to show signs of serious leakage – if not outright rupture – by the mid 1970s. An American president, who two years earlier had been reelected by one of the largest margins in the nation’s history, had just resigned in disgrace while a long, bloody and bitterly divisive war had been revealed as corrupt and pointless. Yet, to the array of hopeful goofballs in Nashville, America was still the land of opportunity; its dark and dank country music venues the key to quick fame and easy riches.
As conceived by Altman and writer Joan Tewksbury, everything about Nashville is larger than life. From its massive melange of roughly two dozen principle characters to...

The trend these days is to have controllers be a seamless part of the game playing experience, to the point that they're virtually transparent. The Kinect and other purely motion based solutions is perhaps the best, most extreme example of this increasingly popular train of thought.
So thank goodness that some folks out there are willing to go against the norm, and create controllers that both bold and absurd. Like the "Doom Piano", which as the name implies, is a piano that's been modified to play "Doom".
The following, which Gamasutra was the very first to report on such a bizarre yet wonderful interface, was presented at the Virgin Media Game Space in London. It's the lovechild of organizer David Hayward, developer Sos Sosowski, Ricky Haggett of Honeyslug and George Buckenham of Die Gute Fabrik:

Resurrecting the Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp must’ve sounded like one of the all-time Hollywood no-brainers when it was pitched to Disney in 2011. After all, the mysterious masked man used to be the all-American icon with the greatest chase-music (“The William Tell Overture”), the greatest sidekick (Tonto), and the greatest catchphrase (“Hi-yo, Silver, away!”). Plus, though Depp is playing a boldly reimagined Tonto opposite Armie Hammer’s Ranger, he was reuniting with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the creative triumvirate that made Disney billions with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. But getting The Lone Ranger into...

The new All My Children web series debuted this week to much fanfare and positive ratings. Most excitingly for lesbian fans of the show, it includes our beloved Bianca Montgomery (played by the originator of the role, Eden Riegel). While the cast is a lot smaller and many longtime characters did not return (including Kendall, Greenlee, Tad, and Erica Kane herself), the new web series format feels sleeker and I daresay, rather hip. The show picks up five years after that fateful night at the Chandler House where shots rang out during an otherwise happy engagement party. Jr, father to Aj and ex to Marissa, was the man behind the gun, and his actions would change the fate of many in Pine Valley. Here is a little something to catch you up to speed.

In the 40 years since he made his daytime-tv debut, Vincent Irizzary had seen nothing like it — a non-Emmys red carpet event to kick off an evening celebrating soap operas, namely two that had been plucked from the ashes and given life anew.
Irizzary plays David Hayward, a highly duplicitous doctor on All My Children, which like fellow former ABC serial One Life to Live was reborn this week on Hulu and iTunes, via Prospect Park’s The Online Network. The actor calls the dramas’ return, in a new medium, none too small a miracle.

You know, just once I would like a TV show to have gay characters who don’t want children. It just seems like gays on TV always want kids. I guess it’s a way of telling viewers that gay folks want homes and families just like straight folks and having kids does open up plenty of storytelling for television shows, but for me I’d like to see something different because even without marriage and kids, there are plenty of other compelling stories to be told. I also think it’s very soon for Will and Robbie to be talking about kids since they’ve only been married for a few weeks.

I'm not sure what to make of the big surprise on General Hospital this week -- but then again, I haven't known what to make of Gh in a very long time (years, actually). Robin Scorpio is alive -- and looking very tanned and rested, I might add, even if she is being held hostage in something resembling a hospital room.
Seeing Robin in that bed at the end of Monday's episode was the first time Gh has really "wowed" me since that unforgettable moment in May 1980 when Edward Quartermaine sprang back to life after faking a heart attack and shocked his daughter Tracy (and millions of viewers, as well) after she had refused to give him his medication because he wouldn't change his will. Ah, sweet memories ...

Nominations for the 38th annual Daytime Emmy Awards won't be announced until May 11 but we can tell you right now which soaps are most likely to land in the Outstanding Daytime Drama competition. Here's a look at what each of the seven serials submitted for the top prize and how they stack up.
All My Children (episode 10,505; airdate November 23, 2010)
A strong, crackling hour during which Dr. David Hayward — not dead after all — walks into the courtroom during his murder trial and shocks the snot out of everyone in Pine Valley. Oddly, there are no out-of-the-park performances here but the noir-ish flashbacks detailing how the dastardly doc (played by fan fave Vincent Irizarry) faked his demise and tried to frame his rival Ryan are exceptionally well crafted and quite riveting. The stuff of grand memories? Not really. But this is good, solid work and in some years (like this one) that's...

HollywoodNews.com: Now that we know who is contending for a pre-nomination slot at the Daytime Emmy Awards, it’s time to take a closer look at each of the acting categories. The key to winning a Daytime Emmy is episode selection. To stand out amongst this group of industry legends, an actor will need to submit a tape that displays enough range and impact to make voters take notice. Good submissions are usually self-contained episodes showing a clear beginning, middle and end to a character’s emotional arc.
Best Actor has the potential to be a very competitive race as every show has to decide between multiple veteran performers. The frontrunners among these contenders are discussed below.
