The exploration of horror through an overcrowded streaming market continues. Since each month brings a plethora of new additions to streaming libraries across all platforms, from Netflix to Tubi, that means an insane selection of all styles and types of horror available at our fingertips.
Max doesn’t just serve as the spot for Warner Bros. titles, but offers hubs to connect you to HBO, Cartoon Network, TCM, and curated selections to find even more pockets of horror.
New additions to Max’s horror library in April include Wes Craven Presents: They and Alex Garland’s Men on April 18. Also look for Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar to arrive on the streaming platform on April 6.
Here are the best Max horror movies you can stream right now.
Aliens
Whereas Ridley Scott’s Alien embraced quiet haunted house-like chills for his sci-fi movie, James Cameron took a drastic detour into action-horror territory for the epic-scaled sequel.

A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and in this one we’re taking a look at an entry in the Crow franchise that often gets overlooked: The Crow: Salvation from 2000 (get it Here). With a remake of The Crow heading to theatres on June 7th and The Crow: Salvation getting a limited edition Blu-ray release from Scream Factory, this seemed like the perfect time to dig into this one – and you can hear all about it in the video embedded above!
Directed by Bharat Nalluri from a screenplay written by Chip Johannessen, The Crow: Salvation has the following synopsis: Alex Corvis is falsely convicted of brutally stabbing his girlfriend Lauren to death. He maintains his innocence and insists that Lauren was killed by a man with distinctive scars on his body but the police cannot find any trace of him. After three years on death row,...

The Story: A New York cop is unwillingly recruited as an assassin for a top-secret government agency, Cure. Re-christened Remo Williams (Fred Ward), he’s sent on the trail of an unscrupulous weapons dealer, but first must survive his training with Chiun (Joel Grey) master of Sinanju.
The Players: Starring: Fred Ward, Joel Grey, Kate Mulgrew & Wilford Brimley. Music by Craig Safan. Directed by Guy Hamilton.
The History: The Adventure Begins…and ends, with this, the lone big-screen adventure of Remo Williams, the veteran of well over a hundred pulp novels (published as “The Destroyer” series – written by Warren Murphy & Richard Sapir). This was an attempt by Dick Clark (of all people) and the then-fledgling Orion Pictures to launch their own James Bond-style series of adventures. While people may laugh at the attempt now, they definitely had reason to think this could work, with the brain trust at Orion the...

Kevin Bacon might be a face of versatility. From heart-pounding thrillers to emotionally charged dramas, he’s carved a path through the movie industry for decades, solidifying his status as a Hollywood Heavyweight.
Kevin Bacon || One Way
But even the most celebrated actors face moments of desperation, where the paycheck outweighs artistic passion. One such time, Bacon found himself reluctantly attached to a project. However, as fate had it, it turned out to be a cult classic, a turn of events for which Bacon is undeniably grateful.

Based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr, the first version of The Crow was released in 1994 and told the tragic story of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly Webster. Later this year, we’ll be getting a remake of The Crow, with the story of Eric and Shelly being told all over again. It seems kind of strange to do a remake and revisit characters in a franchise that lends itself to the anthology format, where each film can be focused on a different vengeful, undead person… but it does make business sense, because The Crow remake is getting more attention than the three Crow sequels ever got. But those Crow sequels do have their fans, and Scream Factory is about to celebrate one of them – The Crow: Salvation from 2000 – with a limited edition Blu-ray release on March 26th.

Liam Neeson’s Frank Drebin may have found his foil in the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun, as reports have come out that former Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen may be close to signing on.
As reported by Daniel Richtman, “Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play the villain Cane.” While no details have come out about Cane and Mikkelsen has not officially inked a deal for the upcoming Naked Gun installment, I would personally love to see him take on the role.
If confirmed, Mads Mikkelsen will join Ricardo Montalbán’s Victor Ludwig from the first Naked Gun, Robert Goulet’s Quentin Hapsburg from The Smell of Fear and Fred Ward’s Rocco Dillon from The Final Insult. Considering that lineup, we would absolutely welcome Mads Mikkelsen to the list of heels trying to outsmart (well…) Frank Drebin. And hey, let’s keep tradition and get “Weird Al” Yankovic...

The legendary test pilot Chuck Yeager took Philip Kaufman, the writer/director of the lauded 1983 space race epic “The Right Stuff,” for a ride in his plane during production. And at one point the man who broke the sound barrier in 1947 turned over the controls to Kaufman as he also turned off the engine. “He thought it would scare me being one of the ‘Hollywood’ guys,” Kaufman told me in a 2003 L.A. Times interview. “I just sort of looked at him and smiled, because I knew there was something blessed about this man. The funny thing about Yeager is that he would drive out to the sets, particularly in the high desert, and he would not go above the speed limit. He was the fastest man alive, but he wouldn’t go over 55 because he knew how dangerous it was on the highway”

The 1990 creature feature Tremors is one of my all-time favorite movies – and in 1996, it received one of the best direct-to-video sequels ever made when Tremors II: Aftershocks (watch it Here) hit store shelves. Today, Arrow Video announced that they’re bringing Tremors II to 4K on November 27th, and they’re also packing the release with new special features! Copies can be pre-ordered through the Arrow Video website.
Directed by S.S. Wilson, who also wrote the screenplay with Brent Maddock, Tremors II: Aftershocks has the following synopsis: After spending all the reward money from his first encounter with the giant, man-eating worms, the Graboids, Earl Bassett agrees to hunt more deadly creatures at a Mexican oil refinery for $50,000 each. Knowing he can’t take on the monsters alone, Earl recruits Burt Gummer, another veteran of the Nevada incident, to provide the weapons. However, Graboids are evolving to attack above ground…...

When Universal Pictures released the classic creature feature Tremors (watch it Here) back in 1990, they decided to market it with poster art that brings to mind the iconic poster for Universal’s 1975 release Jaws. But before they made that choice, they had hired famed artist Drew Struzan – whose work includes the posters for Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars films, among many others – come up with a couple poster ideas. Yesterday, Struzan took to social media to share a look at a couple of his unused Tremors poster concepts… and you can check them out in this embed:

The official poster for the original Tremors (1990) ended up paying homage to the iconic poster art for Jaws, but as always, several different concepts were originally tossed about.
Taking to his must-follow Twitter account this week, legendary poster artist Drew Struzan shares two alternate Tremors poster concepts he whipped up back in the day!
The two concepts were ultimately unused, but you can check them out below. Unlike the film’s official poster, there’s not a Graboid in sight on Struzan’s artwork, which instead focuses on the film’s human characters and only teases the horror beneath the surface.
Drew Struzan is currently retired but his poster artwork was integral to the success of countless notable films including Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Thing and The Goonies.
You can learn more about Struzan over on his official website.

So who didn’t make the cut? There was a bit of an uproar online on Sunday over the late stars who didn’t end up featured in the 2023 Oscars “In Memoriam” segment.
While this year’s tribute to those stars we’ve lost was moving and emotional — featuring a tearful introduction from John Travolta and a powerful performance of “Calling All Angels” by Lennt Kravitz — glaring omission of some big-name stars shook up some viewers at home.

Also absent from the televised tribute was longtime film veteran Tom Sizemore — who died on Mar. 3, at age 61, two weeks after suffering a brain aneurysm that left him hospitalized.
One of the most surprising omissions was that of Charlbi Dean, who died on Aug. 22 at...

Also absent from the televised tribute was longtime film veteran Tom Sizemore — who died on Mar. 3, at age 61, two weeks after suffering a brain aneurysm that left him hospitalized.
One of the most surprising omissions was that of Charlbi Dean, who died on Aug. 22 at...

Every year the “In Memoriam” tribute at the Oscars leaves off a few fan favorites and 2023 was no exception: Among those who weren’t included in Sunday night’s video montage were Anne Heche, “Saving Private Ryan” star Tom Sizemore and Charlbi Dean, who appeared in this year’s Best Picture nominee “Triangle of Sadness.”
Fans also noted the absence of Cindy Williams: While she was best known for the ’70s TV sitcom “Laverne & Shirley,” she notably appeared in two classic films of the era, George Lucas’ “American Graffiti” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Conversation.”
And while the tribute included “Goodfellas” star Ray Liotta, who died unexpectedly on May 26, 2022, his costar Paul Sorvino, who died in July 2022, was left out.

Four-time Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz will perform for Sunday’s emotional “In Memoriam” segment on the Oscars 2023 ceremony. While only 40-50 people are generally remembered for the television ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on ABC, over 200 people will be recognized on the Academy’s webpage starting that evening.

Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.
Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

Back in 1990, director Ron Underwood brought us one of the greatest creature features ever made, Tremors (watch it Here). A film that introduced subterranean monsters known as Graboids and spawned a franchise that has – so far – consisted of six direct-to-video sequels and a TV series that ran for thirteen episodes back in 2003. The only cast member who stuck with the franchise through every sequel and the TV series was Michael Gross, but for the last few years Tremors star Kevin Bacon has let it be known that he wants to come back to the world of Tremors. He even starred in a pilot for a second Tremors TV series… but Syfy didn’t pick it up. While Bacon continues to “wait for the call” that will give him the chance to reprise the role of Valentine McKee, Daily Dead has discovered that Universal Pictures’ 1440 Entertainment division was recently developing a...

If you know me or have been following the work that I’ve been doing here at Daily Dead for the last decade, then declaring that I am a huge Tremors fan here should not come as any kind of surprise. It’s a film series that has meant the world to me for more than three decades now, and not only did I have the distinct pleasure of covering the last three Tremors sequels, but I even chatted with Jonathan Melville, the writer behind Seeking Perfection: The Unofficial Guide to Tremors, because I was just so fascinated by everything that I read in his book. In fact, StudioADI’s effects on the original Tremors were partly responsible for my wanting to write about FX artists in the first place.
So, when it was recently brought to my attention that not only was there a planned Tremors reboot in the works,...

While the Tremors franchise has never stopped churning out new entries, one actor who’s been missing from all the sequels is original star Kevin Bacon. Oddly enough, Bacon actually did reprise the role of Valentine McKee for the pilot episode of a Tremors television series that never got off the ground, which to date has never actually been released to the public.
With Michael Gross at the helm, the original Tremors franchise just released its seventh installment back in 2020. But will we ever see Kevin Bacon return to the franchise proper?
Taking to Twitter over the weekend, Bacon once again expressed interest in battling Graboids one more time as Valentine McKee, responding to a fan’s tweet to make that clear.

There have been numerous straight-to-video sequels of “Tremors”, but fans have long been clamouring for one that brings the original’s star, Kevin Bacon, back into the fold.
A Twitter user recently commented on a scene in the new trailer for the upcoming “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” in which a giant wormlike creature erupts from the earth, much like the Graboids in the 1990 creature feature.

American actor Kevin Bacon is, once again, waiting to take part in a new ‘Tremors’ sequel. His love for the 1990 film is pretty well-documented, reports People magazine. Not only is it the only movie of his that he’s watched since it premiered, but he also admitted to still wanting to star in a sequel in a 2021 ‘Esquire’ profile. He recently rehashed his admiration for ‘Tremors’ once again when a fan asked him about making a follow-up to the cult classic.
As per People, after a Twitter user recently wrote that the latest ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ trailer makes him “really want to see a new ‘Tremors’ movie that isn’t direct to DVD,” Bacon weighed in for fans.
“I’m just waiting for the call,” he wrote with an appropriately placed worm emoji. The comment comes nearly 33 years after the Ron Underwood-directed movie first won over fans with a stacked cast,...

Motion pictures, for better or worse, shape the way that we view history. They bring the past to life using realistic costumes, production design, and visual effects. They tell vivid stories about real-life figures and important events that shaped the world around us to this day, and which provide meaningful parallels to the lives we currently lead.
And yet, if the movies have taught us anything, it's that every single historical figure, at some point in their storied life, has also solved at least one murder mystery. Or at least they fought a mummy or something. The desire to tell tales of historical fiction is perfectly understandable, but our collective and very specific urge to transform biographies into pulpy fan fiction is a little weird, if you think about it.
Consider, if you will, Scott Cooper's "The Pale Blue Eye," which co-stars Harry Melling as a young Edgar Allan Poe,...

In 1985, the late Fred Ward starred in a pulpy action movie called "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins," about a Brooklyn cop and Vietnam vet, who has his death faked and his face surgically altered to become a martial artist and government assassin. Based on the long-running "Destroyer" series of books by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir, the film was meant to jumpstart a new franchise, with its title suggesting that Remo, like Batman, was just beginning his screen adventures and would enjoy many more of them.
Alas, "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" opened at #4 at the box office, to lackluster reviews. An official sequel never materialized, which left Remo's exploits confined to the status of a cult favorite until now. His remaining adventures have instead played out in over 150 novels—and one abortive TV series that never made it past the pilot episode in 1988.

Pulp action hero Remo Williams is heading to the screen once again, this time to television.
Sony Pictures Television has picked up the rights to The Destroyer, the best-selling book series featuring the character, and has teamed up with multiple Emmy nominee Gordon Smith — one of the key creative voices behind Better Call Saul — to bring it to the screen.
Smith will write and executive produce the series. Adrian Askarieh of Prime Universe Films is also on board to executive produce.
The Destroyer books center on a government operative named Remo Williams, a former cop who is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and then sentenced to death. But, plot twist, his death is faked by the government just so he can be trained in an obscure martial art and made an agent of an organization called Cure.

2022 has been a tough year for science fiction fans, with a formidable array of talent having left us. From stalwart character actors who seemed like they'd always be with us to a voice talent who provided the definitive characterization of one of the most well-known fictional characters on the planet, the galaxies of speculative fiction are poorer for their absence.
Notably, it was the year in which we lost the Greek composer Vangelis, whose sprawling soundscapes in Blade Runner were as much a part of the film as the visual effects created by another sad inclusion on this list, and also, actor James Caan, whose brief foray into science fiction included memorable roles in "Alien Nation" and the dark satire "Rollerball."
This article will cover the science fiction stars who died in 2022. Their talents may be lost to us, but they'll forever retain their position amongst the stars — where they belong.

In the words of Kevin Bacon, "Funny-scary is a very difficult thing." The star of Ron Underwood's horror-comedy "Tremors" has spoken at length about the 1990 creature feature and his role as stubborn handyman Val McKee who, alongside Fred Ward's Earl Bassett, tries to escape the doldrums of Perfection, Nevada when giant prehistoric underground monsters interrupt their flight.
In the documentary "Tremors: Making Perfection," Bacon, Underwood, and the rest of the film's cast and crew go long on its journey from page to screen. It began as a simple concept from writers S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who were collecting footage for a Navy safety video when they thought about what it would be like if something had them marooned on a rock. The story, then dubbed "Land Sharks," would be retitled "Beneath Perfection" before finally landing on "Tremors."

If you stick around in this industry long enough, you'll learn that no movie, no matter how big or how small, is immune to disaster. And bodies of water are often involved (or at least nearby).
The mechanical shark in Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" barely worked. The craft services on "Titanic" got spiked with Pcp. The 5 million floating set of "Waterworld" sank into the ocean.
You would think that filming in the desert would protect filmmakers from these aquatic inconveniences, but you would be very, very wrong. While shooting the 1990 cult horror-comedy classic "Tremors," one of the film's biggest set pieces went completely unfilmed.
Because it turns out that water, sometimes, makes things rock solid instead of soggy.

At its core, "Tremors" is a simple movie: a tiny town in the middle of the desert is terrorized by some prehistoric, man-eating worms that attack from under the ground. It's a bit of a throwback to the classic 1950s monster movies like "Them!" and "Tarantula!" Our plucky townsfolk endure with surprisingly few casualties, and in the end, the hero gets the girl. All things considered, it's a pretty run of the mill premise on paper. And yet somehow, it not only worked, but it drew critical acclaim and, amazingly, spawned six sequels and a short-lived TV series.
So how did a modern day B-movie from 1990 not just endure, but become a bona fide cult classic with enough staying power to keep churning out installments in the franchise as recently as 2020? The first answer is that, obviously, it has one heck of a likable cast. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward star as Val and Earl,...

The phenomenal success of "Footloose" launched Kevin Bacon into newfound stardom and recognition when it danced its way into theaters in February of 1984. Bacon had already appeared in "Friday the 13th" and Barry Levinson's coming-of-age classic "Diner," but the role of Ren McCormack essentially made the young heartthrob a household name. The surprisingly dark bike messenger drama "Quicksilver" came next, a movie I personally love that didn't exactly light the box office on fire. Working with John Hughes and Christopher Guest on "She's Having a Baby" and "The Big Picture" produced two quality films that showcased Bacon as an unconventional leading man; however, neither movie broke through to the mainstream.
The heat generated from "Footloose" was burning out, and Bacon, in a recent EW interview, admitted he wasn't doing well financially when the creature feature "Tremors" came his way.

Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, known to cinephiles around the world as Vangelis, has died this week at a hospital in France, his reps announced in a statement. He was 79.
Vangelis is best known for the iconic theme and soundtrack to the Best Picture-winning sports film “Chariots of Fire,” for which he won an Oscar for Best Original Score while the soundtrack reached the top of the U.S. Billboard charts. He also composed the score for Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic “Blade Runner,” for which he was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.
Born in Athens, Greece, Vangelis got his start playing keyboards for a pop band called Forminx in the 1960s and later with the prog rock band Aphrodite’s Child, which found success on the European charts.
Fred Ward had the right stuff. He could play charming, tough, or funny with aplomb. In some cases, he embodied all three in a single role. Tremors is the most obvious example, but Cast a Deadly Spell is another that’s too often overlooked. Like Who Framed Roger Rabbit with eldritch monsters and magic instead of cartoons, […]

Actor who played ‘second lead’ to perfection and brought comic relief to the cult horror thriller Tremors
Fred Ward, who has died aged 79, was more than just a talented character actor whose ability to imbue lesser characters quietly with depth endeared him to a number of directors who worked with ensemble casts, including Philip Kaufman, Walter Hill and Robert Altman. He was also what used to be called a “second lead”, a likable co-star with leading man qualities who could support the top billed star.
He played this part to perfection in what was his best-known role, as Earl Bassett in the 1990 cult B movie Tremors. His understatement is a major part of the horror thriller’s comic relief, while his steadiness anchors the wilder performance of Kevin Bacon. “When it came to battling underground worms, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner,” Bacon said.

Following the death of actor Fred Ward, several of his former costars, including Kevin Bacon, Matthew Modine, Lou Diamond Phillips, Richard E. Grant, and Kate Mulgrew, shared their memories of working with the charmingly gruff star.
Bacon shared a photo of himself and Ward from the 1990 cult hit “Tremors,” writing, “So sad to hear about Fred Ward. When it came to battling underground worms I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. I will always remember chatting about his love of Django Reinhardt and jazz guitar during our long hot days in the high desert. Rest In Peace Fred.” The two reunited in 2018 for a “Tremors” TV pilot that sadly was not picked up.

It’s going to happen, and it’s going to keep happening. The actors we’ve grown up with enjoyed and watched without cease over the years are going to pass on at some point. With a career spanning 40+ years, Fred Ward is one of the many actors that a lot of people remember, but didn’t think about continually throughout his career. His time on screen has been enjoyable for many years since the man managed to take on many roles that were easy to distinguish from each other even though his mannerisms didn’t differ that much from one character to another.
