It's a drizzly Thursday afternoon in New York City, and Nicki Nicole has spent most of her day answering back-to-back interview questions from journalists. For someone who just concluded a tour between Latin America and Europe, not to mention nine sold-out shows at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, where more than 100,000 fans were in attendance, you'd think she was ready to slow down. But hours before our conversation, she announced that her first US headlining tour would kick off next month in Mexico City. You can see the tunnel vision in her green eyes. Her fans, who have been by her side since day one, are what motivate her to keep going.

Nicki Nicole is letting an old lover know exactly what he missed out on. The Argentine singer just released “Ojos Verdes,” a new cumbia track that celebrates self-love and moving on from a relationship.
The title references the singer’s green eyes. On the song, Nicki sings to an ex and lets him know that he’ll never find anyone like her. “I know you’re with someone else but thinking of me/And you give her the kisses I once gave you/Who are you going to deceive, who...

There was plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Latin Grammys this year. For the first time, the award show was planned in Sevilla, Spain, a cross-continental move that sparked plenty of debate.
The European country has had a complicated place with the awards show, and prior to the ceremony, fans pointed out it’s not part of Latin America — though the Latin Grammys have always considered all music, as long as it’s 51 percent in Spanish. Still, others worried that hosting the show across the world would cause logistical issues for...

Rising reggaetón star Rmand is used to doing everything on his own. Back in the Dominican Republic, he’d write his songs alone, record by himself, and book shows independently. But now, Rmand (pronounced awr-mand) has an army, led by Tainy and Lex Borrero’s NEON16 label, “looking to elevate” everything he does.
In 2021, he released the track “Diskreto,” which went viral on TikTok. Rmand’s career quickly launched to high gear after he competed on Netflix’s La Firma earlier this year. The show, judged by Nicki Nicole and Rauw Alejandro,...

It's early in the afternoon when Young Miko joins our Zoom call from Puerto Rico. Through the windows of the conference room, light is streaming in. Outside, the tops of bushy trees are just visible, framing the crisscrossing lattice of steel and lights that make up the proscenium of the stage at the Amphitheatre Tito Puente, the stage she will grace in just one day's time. If you've ever seen Miko live, she's usually a ball of energy, skipping across the stage, playing to the crowd, all while delivering punchlines with the smooth delivery she's become known for. But today, dressed in a baggy black T-shirt that shows off her tattooed forearms, she's a bit more reserved. And for good reason: her "Trap Kitty" world tour is in full effect.
"I'm pumped to be sharing with my fans all around the world," she tells Popsugar in Spanish. "You know I...

Young Miko is relaxing on a Saturday afternoon when I reach her on Zoom. Given that she’s about to kick off her first-ever world tour in Guatemala later that night, it’s hardly a regular Saturday, though. “I’m resting as much as I can,” says the Puerto Rican artist, 24. “I’ve been so busy that it wasn’t until two days ago that I realized I’m starting the tour.”
Since releasing her EP Trap Kitty in 2022, Miko has upended the sound of Latin trap with bouncy tracks and incomparable Spanglish lyricism.

Rauw Alejandro joined Argentine producer Bizarrap for an episode of his “Bzrp Music Sessions” YouTube series, which sees the pair collaborating on a new song.
The episode, “Rauw Alejandro: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 56,” was filmed in Biza’s recording studio and features a hook-laden electronic track. It sees Alejandro crooning about desire in a seriously sultry way: “I’m alone and you’re alone / you want to taste me and I want to eat you all.”
At the end of the clip, the duo tease another forthcoming track. The text hints: “Rauw Alejandro x Bizarrap,...

Before he’d even turned 20, Trueno had made a name for himself as a champion freestyle battler in Argentina’s growing rap scene. He was witty, funny, and quick on his feet, and he showed people the full range of what he could do on his debut album, Atrevido, from 2020.
But Bien o Mal, released in May 2022, was a display of maturity and depth that broke new ground. Split into two sections, one half of the album was full of songs of protests that spoke out against corruption, dictatorships, economic inequality,...

Last week, Netflix premiered the first six episodes of La Firma, the highly anticipated series in which the biggest names in urbano — and the major executives behind them — search for the next Latin superstar. Twelve hopeful artists from across Latin America and the U.S. have to impress a panel that includes Puerto Rican multi-hyphenate Rauw Alejandro, Yandel of the iconic reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel, Argentine singer Nicki Nicole, plus mega-producer Tainy and industry veteran Lex Borrero. The final winner signs a life-changing contract with Tainy and Borrero’s influential label Neon 16.

The Signing is a new competition series on Netflix that follows various artists such as Rauw Alejandro, Nicki Nicole and Lex Borrero among others.
12 contracts to enter a talent competition at the end of which only one of them will get to sign on the dotted line of a big deal. The Signing, a reality-contest about Latin music, à la American Idol, but with different protagonists, different judges and, above all, a way of doing things that’s very different to the already legendary show to which it owes a lot, but which The Signing will try to transform and reorient for a new audience.
We don’t know if these guys will make it to the Latin Grammys, but, from where we are here, we wish them all the very best successes in their careers.
A Spanish-language series from the United States.
From April 4th on Netflix.
Enjoy.

Christina Aguilera has always found a way to connect to her Latinx roots. The singer, who is of Ecuadorian descent, was nominated for seven Latin Grammys this year including album of the year for her new and second Spanish language album, "Aguilera," released this May. Her single "Pa Mis Muchuchas" featuring Becky G, Nicki Nicole, and Nathy Peluso is nominated for both song of the year and record of the year.
"I've been wanting to release another Spanish album since 'Mi reflejo'," Aguilera said during her acceptance speech for the traditional pop vocal album award. "It was such an amazing time for me. This is so important to me, and it's so amazing to come back to this home."
The songstress once again proved why she is a force to be reckoned with, giving us the performance we did not know we needed. Aguilera, who is known for her pop songs,...

Christina Aguilera returned to the Latin Grammy Awards stage for a powerful performance with Mexican singer Christian Nodal. The pop superstar showed off her chops in the música Mexicana genre while the two artists performed their duet “Cuando Me Dé la Gana.”
The theme of the performance was seemingly inspired by West Side Story with Aguilera and Nodal performing “Cuando Me Dé la Gana ” on opposite sides of the stage. They were backed by a full mariachi band and Aguilera dug deep to deliver the heavy emotion behind the ballad.

Over the past several years, two of Argentina’s biggest careers have run parallel to each other: In the port city of Rosario, singer and rapper Nicki Nicole broke into the music scene when her 2019 track “Wapo Traketero” became a hit and showcased her gritty, darkly hued R&b sound to the world. A few months later, a massive YouTube session with the buzzy producer Bizarrap blasted her into even more fame, setting the stage for her debut album, Recuerdos. About 200 miles away, in the working-class neighborhood of La Boca in Buenos Aires,...

I’ve discussed a couple of possible Latin Grammy winners for Album of the Year this year, but what about another general field category? Let’s look at the contenders for Record of the Year.
Alas, Pablo Alborán (“Castillos De Arena”), Camilo (“Pegao”), and Marc Anthony (“Pa’lla Voy”) are just here to fill up space. While Bad Bunny and Bomba Estéreo‘s “Ojitos Lindos” was a big hit and one of the best songs of the year, the academy has tended to shy away from rewarding Benito in the top categories, so I wouldn’t place it among the top contenders. Similarly, Shakira and Rauw Alejandro‘s “Te Felicito” was successful, but not the most successful here, and it isn’t as highly acclaimed as some of its rivals.

Bad Bunny leads the 2022 Latin Grammy Award nominations with 10 bids including Album of the Year (“Un Verano Sin Ti“) and Record of the Year (“Ojitos Lindos”), but can he finally win top honors from the academy? Scroll down for the complete list of contenders in all categories.
SEEBillboard charts: Number-one albums of 2022
The Latin Recording Academy has been somewhat ambivalent about Bad Bunny, judging from his track record over the years. He has won four times, but only in urban genre categories. He lost his three previous Album of the Year bids (for “Yhlqmdlg” and “Oasis” in 2020 and “El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo” in 2021) and his previous Record of the Year nom (for “Vete” in 2020). However, Bad Bunny has emerged as the biggest crossover Latin star in the world. “Un Verano Sin Ti” has topped the all-genre, all-language Billboard 200 albums chart for 11 weeks, which is more than any album in six years.

Lex Borrero, the co-founder of Interscope’s Neon16 label, has made his own seat at the table — and brought a full plate. As a teen, Borrero understood the importance of networking. After hundreds of unanswered cold calls, he eventually caught the attention of Universal Music and signed his first artist under his shingle Lex Prods. when he was 17. He would go on to become executive vice president and head of Latin at Roc Nation, where he met and later shaped the career of reggaeton producer Tainy. The two now run Neon16 together, with Borrero standing as CEO.
Borrero’s latest project is the new docu-style reality series, “Los Montaner” — created alongside veteran music exec Tommy Mottola (a relationship Borrero says is “like father and son”) and Range Media Partners — it will premiere later this year under the banner of the trio’s new content company, Ntertain.
