The Whitney’s moving, MoMA is swelling, and now the Met has entered the museum-expansion sweepstakes too. The mother of all museums announced — or rather mumbled in agreement after New York’s Carl Swanson broke the news in March and Robin Pogrebin pressed the question in the Times — that it hopes to gut-renovate, or possibly even tear down and replace, the Lila Acheson Wallace Wing, where its historically spotty collection of modern and contemporary art is now on awkward display. The Met is pursuing two admirable, but possibly incompatible, goals: to provide an adequate and permanent home for Leonard Lauder’s $1 billion gift of 79 Cubist artworks, and to make room to catch up with the 21st century. But the director Thomas Campbell also hinted at a third, much more troubling aim: to open the museum toward Central Park and create a new entrance. That would draw more crowds into the...

I spend way too much of my time in my office and endless business meetings,” says Thomas Campbell, the preternaturally unassuming director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, “so I try to get out a couple of times a day, if I can, and just get down there to the galleries, walk randomly in any direction.” Five years into his job, the British-born 51-year-old still comes off as less the maharaja of the Met than someone who, to his self-deprecating delight, has been given Charlie and the Chocolate Factory–like privileges to sneak around backstage. He has a special key, he tells me on the morning we are scheduled to walk not so randomly about, which is “supposed to open every door in the building,” he says. “Of course, I always discover the door it doesn’t work on is the one that I really need to get through.”Campbell...

Universal Pictures has released this touching and beautiful tribute to actor Paul Walker who died tragically on Saturday in a car accident.
On Tuesday, Universal Pictures announced that a percentage of proceeds from the upcoming home entertainment release of Fast & Furious 6 will be donated to Paul Walker’s non-profit Reach Out WorldWide, a network of professionals with first responder skill-sets who augment local expertise when natural disasters strike in order to accelerate relief efforts. “With the passing of Paul, the world has lost a man who spent a great deal of his life in service to others. We share in the deep grief of his family, friends and the countless fans who love him,” said Donna Langley, Chairman, Universal Pictures. “We keep Paul’s memory alive...

"To live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die," the actor quoted Thomas Campbell on his Facebook page in speaking out for the first time about the death of longtime friend Paul Walker, his costar in four of six films in the Fast and the Furious series. They were on a break from shooting the latest installment of the series when Walker was killed in a single-car crash Saturday, along with the driver of the vehicle, Roger Rodas. Healthy Hollywood had the most amazing invitation to attend the North American Plant-Based Nutrition Conference in Naples, Florida. I spent this past weekend listening and learning from some of the brightest, most inspiring doctors on the planet.
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn (the man who got President Clinton to go vegan!) spoke on reversing heart disease, Thomas Campbell, who co-wrote the best-selling "The China Study," gave an incredible lecture on the top nutrition tips and one of my new favorite wellness gurus, Dr. William Li, got my attention with his talk on reducing chronic disease.

Four years after New York’s Metropolitan Museum renovated its lauded Greek and Roman galleries, curators two flights up are scurrying to reopen the museum’s Islamic art galleries by Nov. 1.
The eight-year project amounts to a sweeping overhaul: Around 19,000 square feet is being given over to 15 galleries that chronologically trace the cultural high points of dozens of Islam-influenced cultures stretching from the Moors in Spain to the Mughals in India.

Hey, it’s a film festival masquerading as an art gallery show! Or is it an art gallery show masquerading as a film festival? Whatever it is, it’s the Projections Festival of Rare and Hard to See Films curated by Aaron Rose and screening from Jan. 16 to Feb. 20 at the Roberts & Tilton gallery in Los Angeles.
Some of the films screening are short films by popular, indie film directors, such as Spike Jonze, Harmony Korine, Jean-Luc Godard, Miranda July and Roman Coppola. But there are also films by underground filmmakers like Sadie Benning, Matt McCormick, Brian Butler and the king of underground film, Jonas Mekas. And there’s a whole host more, too.
If you look over the schedule, which is posted in its entirety below, you’ll notice that there aren’t a lot of screening times listed. That’s because on each day a film, or a series of films,...
