'Argylle' director Matthew Vaughn was hurt by the "vitriolic" reaction to his movie. The 53-year-old filmmaker was at the helm of the star studded spy comedy - which featured the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson - and he admitted the poor reaction from critics and many fans left him disappointed and "rattled".He told Empire magazine: “My guard came down on 'Argylle'. We had done test screenings that had gone fantastically well."The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to the 'Snatch' days where there was such excitement. And I started drinking the Kool-Aid.“It’s a fun, feel-good movie, or I thought it was a fun, feel-good movie. We didn’t make 'Citizen Kane', but f****** hell,...

Matthew Vaughn has managed to establish himself as a brand name when action comedies are concerned. He managed to achieve success with the Kingsman series, but his filmography includes other interesting titles such as Stardust (2007), Kick-Ass (2010), and X-Men: First Class (2011). Vaughn is definitely a director who is interesting and who knows his trade, but his most recent feature, Argylle, was a complete flop, despite a potentially intriguing premise and a star-filled cast. The critics have panned the Kingsman spin-off, and it was a disaster at the box office, earning less than $100 million against a $200 million budget.
In a recent talk with Empire magazine, Vaughn discussed the reception of Argylle, and the director was not shy about expressing his disappointment with how it all turned out for the movie. He believes firmly that the movie was not that bad and that the reactions were simply too harsh.

The updated iteration of Gerard Alessandrini’s long-running Forbidden Broadway revue is heading back to Off Broadway following a brief flirtation with the prospect of a Broadway move.
Forbidden Broadway: Merrily We Stole A Song will begin previews August 23 at Theater555 on West 42nd Street. Opening night is set for Thursday, September 12.
Earlier this year, producers for the show announced that the satirical revue would make its decades-in-coming Broadway debut at the Hayes Theatre sometime this summer, but the planned staging was an early casualty of Broadway’s very crowded spring-summer season. Last month, the Broadway producers Ryan Bogner, Victoria Lang and Tracey McFarland said the Hayes staging wouldn’t happen due to the “enormously crowded” Broadway landscape.
Today, Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini said, “I am thrilled that this latest incarnation of the show that I had been preparing for more than a year, can now open Off Broadway,...

Kraven the Hunter has been delayed several times already, but the release was pushed back yet again last month. The film is now set to hit theaters on December 13th. While speaking with Collider, Kraven the Hunter producer Matt Tolmach explained the reason behind the delay, saying it’s a sign of how highly Sony Pictures thinks of the film.
“Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again,” Tolmach said. “That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We’re really excited. But that’s a great move that reflects just the feeling about the movie.“

When the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter was released last summer, the response from fans wasn't particularly positive. Some embraced the over-the-top violence, but the majority of comic book readers recoiled as soon as a mutated Rhino showed up.
The Sony Pictures movie has been delayed multiple times, with it most recently moving from the end of August to December 13, later this year.
That means it will go head-to-head with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and, just a week later, faces stiff competition from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King. On August 30, it had no real competitors.
Despite that, longtime Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters producer Matt Tolmach tells Collider the move isn't because Sony has given up on Kraven the Hunter; they believe it stands a chance of becoming a Christmastime hit.

It all seemed great on paper. Chris Pine is the director, main star, and co-writer (with Ian Gotler). Alongside him, we have Annette Benning, Ray Wise, Ariana DeBose, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Danny DeVito – all great and well-known names. The movie? A mystery comedy akin to Polanski’s 1970s classic Chinatown, with a random poolman as the main character who discovers a sizeable water heist. It couldn’t be that bad, could it? Well, it could. The movie premiered in Toronto last year and the critics were not satisfied even then. Now, the movie is available in theaters in the United States, and we are sad to report that the critics have panned the movie completely, making Pine’s directorial debut a failure.
The movie’s official synopsis is as follows: “In Chris Pine’s feature directorial debut, Poolman tells the story of Darren Barrenman (Pine), a native Angeleno who...

With many starring roles, including the “Star Trek” and “Wonder Woman” franchises, Chris Pine is obviously leading man material. But the actor recently went behind the camera for his directorial debut, “Poolman,” a comedy-mystery that he co-wrote and stars in alongside Annette Bening, DeWanda Wise, Ariana DeBose, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Danny DeVito, and more.
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, it’s a film that Pine is exceptionally proud of, but it was savaged with negative reviews at the time (it currently sits at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Based on the Emmy-winning series that ran for two seasons on Apple TV+ from 2021-23, Schmigadoon! the musical will, like the series, focus on two New York doctors, Josh and Melissa, who go backpacking in a last-ditch attempt to save their failing relationship, but instead get lost in the woods and end up trapped in Schmigadoon, a magical town that’s a classic Golden Age musical come to life.
Casting for the stage musical was not announced.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe had a good idea at the start: bring together key characters from the Spiderverse. But they forgot something important: Spider-Man himself. Despite a few movies already, the universe hasn’t been received well, except for the ‘Venom’ series, which is ending this October.
The latest disappointment was ‘Madame Web.’ This December, we’re getting a movie about one of Spider-Man’s top villains, Kraven the Hunter. Let’s see what we know about it.
The movie will be rated “R”
We don’t have much info on the movie’s plot, but the villain was supposed to be in it earlier. Execs held off because his stories are pretty intense for older viewers. The movie will likely be rated “R,” but we’re still unsure which story it’ll use. In August 2018, Richard Wenk was hired to write the script, following his success with ‘The Equalizer 2.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ will be a darker story
Not much is known about the overall plot of the movie, except that the villain was supposed to be featured even earlier but the execs avoided him due to having pretty brutal stories aimed at more mature audiences. The upcoming...

Sony Pictures is playing a little release date shuffle this Friday evening. Kraven the Hunter, the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was originally slated to hit theaters on August 30th, but the film has now been pushed back to a December 13th release. Kraven the Hunter‘s fresh release date was already occupied by the new Karate Kid movie, which has now been bumped to May 30, 2025.
Kraven the Hunter has been delayed several times already, but hopefully, this will be the last move. Coming on the heels of the less-than-impressive debuts of Morbius and Madame Web, this Spider-Man spin-off has a lot to prove, but with an R-rated edge, it could just turn the tide. Director J.C. Chandor has previously described the movie as a tragedy. “Sony probably doesn’t want me to lead with this. but the story is a tragedy,” Chandor said last summer. “When the final credits roll on this film,...

DeBose’s brilliant rookie astronaut navigates this moderately tense thriller about US and Russian crew fighting as Earth blazes below
At first, the crew on board the International Space Station (Iss) mistake the tiny dot of fire on Earth for a volcano. But look: there’s another, and another. In fact, these astronauts have got a bird’s eye view of a nuclear tit-for-tat between the Russian and American governments that by the end of the movie turns the planet into a great glowing ball of fire. But for the six-person crew – three Americans and three Russians – nuclear Armageddon is only the start of their problems.
A lowish-budget, slightly muted survival thriller – moderately tense, with too few ideas to qualify as actively cerebral – what the movie does have is a brilliant performance by West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose as biologist and rookie astronaut Kira. Like all the characters here,...
