“Dead Boy Detectives” premiered on Netflix April 25 and brought with it not just a gorgeously stylized supernatural mystery and a villain for the ages in evil (but beautiful!) witch Esther, but a cleverly constructed world that was easy to lose oneself in. Set mostly in the Pacific Northwest, Season 1 followed the titular ghosts, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), their living but amnesiac clairvoyant friend Crystal (Kassius Nelson), and a bevy of new friends, enemies, and one very unexpected detour into Hell. By season’s end, some mysteries had been solved, and others left dangling appetizingly. The biggest one of all, though, remains intact: What will Season 2 bring?
Netflix has not yet announced if “Dead Boy Detectives” will score a Season 2, but that doesn’t mean executive producers Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz haven’t spent time thinking about it. In fact, the reception to Season 1 has only fueled more creative decisions.

In the Season 1 finale of Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Dead Boy Detectives” comic books, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri) find themselves in the well-manicured clutches of resident witch Esther (Jenn Lyon), who is hellbent on bottling the youthful elixir she brews from the anguish attached to Edwin’s soul from his decades of torture in Hell. Pesky witches, always trying to steal childhood trauma for their skin care routine.

"These two boys are cheating death." Netflix has unveiled one final 30-second teaser trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, which begins streaming today on Netflix worldwide. This new supernatural series is based on the beloved comic series from Neil Gaiman, and a new addition to "The Sandman Universe" for Netflix. It looks cool! Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. Two teen ghosts work alongside a clairvoyant to solve mysteries for their supernatural clientele — until a powerful witch messes it up. Edwin & Charles are best friends, ghosts, and the best detectives on the Mortal plane. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal and her friend Niko, they are able to crack some of the mortal realm's most mystifying paranormal cases.

In theory, Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives should be a feast for the misery wraiths, faceless creatures who feed on pain and suffering. The ghostly protagonists, Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), are both teenagers bullied to death at the same British boarding school seven decades apart. They spend their time finding closure for other lost souls, like a pair of high schoolers cut down in their prime or a family slaughtered by an abusive patriarch. And they’re constantly on the run from the agents of Death, who would condemn Edwin to Hell on a technicality.
Yet the duo only ever encounter one such monster over the eight-episode first season, and perhaps that’s because despite its gloomy-sounding premise, Dead Boy Detectives is the furthest thing from dour. Dark, sure; bittersweet, sometimes. But it’s never less than entertaining, thanks to an appealingly quirky lead cast and a cheeky sense of humor.

A car crash interview with a delusional prince, a new series adaptation featuring Patricia Highsmith’s most infamous creation, the second part of Zack Snyder’s pricey space opera and a paranormal detective show set within Neil Gaiman’s celebrated Sandman universe are among the big titles hitting Netflix in April.
Debuting April 4 is Ripley, Netflix’s glossy new take on Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley. Fresh from the critical acclaim he received for All of Us Strangers, Irish actor Andrew Scott will be inhabiting the role of Tom Ripley in an adaptation that will be screened in black-and-white. The eight-episode series also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, and acting newcomer Eliot Sumner (son of Sting and Trudie Styler) as Freddie Miles. Written and directed by Oscar winner Steven Zaillian, Ripley was originally set for release on Showtime before it found a new home on Netflix.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ is an upcoming supernatural detective comedy-drama TV series developed by Steve Yockey, based on DC Comics characters by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The show follows Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, who opt to stay on Earth investigating supernatural crimes instead of entering the afterlife.
Initially announced in 2021 as a spinoff of ‘Doom Patrol’ on HBO, the series switched to Netflix in February 2023. After much anticipation, the show finally has a release date set for April 25, 2024, which is just over a month away. It’s close enough to start feeling excited! You can also view the latest official photos of the show.

Max wants more of Gotham’s most notorious antiheroine.
The streamer has ordered a fifth season of Harley Quinn, the adult animated series centered on the mayhem-loving character. The renewal comes two months after season four wrapped.
“We’re thrilled that the news of Harley and Ivy’s continuing misadventures is finally out and we can stop telling people in secret,” executive producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey said in a statement. “We must have handed out at least three thousand NDAs by now. It was a big waste of paper.”
Kaley Cuoco (who’s also an exec producer) voices the title role in Harley Quinn. Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Tony Hale, Jason Alexander, J.B. Smoove, Briana Cuoco, Giancarlo Esposito, Harvey Guillén, Christopher Meloni and Jacob Tremblay also star.

Things at Warner Bros. Discovery are unstable right now, as their recent shelving of "Coyote Vs. Acme" for the quick boost of a tax write-off shows. As a result, Steve Yockey ("The Flight Attendant") might be breathing a sigh of relief that his series, "Dead Boy Detectives," was shopped around to Netflix.
The series is a DC Comics property, however, according to the Hollywood Reporter, but didn't fit with James Gunn and Peter Safran's new plans at DC Studios. Originally intended to be a spin-off of the Max original series "Doom Patrol," it will instead be set in the same universe as Netflix's "The Sandman," the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed Vertigo comic. The Dead Boy Detectives, Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, first appeared in "The Sandman" issue #25. True to their name, they're a pair of dead boys who decided to stay on Earth investigating crimes instead of leaving for the afterlife.

‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Teaser: George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri Play Ghosts Solving Mysteries (Video)
DC Comics drama “Dead Boy Detectives” has officially moved from Max to Netflix, and Netflix unveiled the first official teaser for the series.
In a first look at the Greg Berlanti-produced series, George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri star as dead teenagers Edwin Payne and Charles Rowlan. Not only are Edwin and Charles best friends who met following their deaths, they are also business partners running the Dead Boy Detective Agency.
“We are the Dead Boy Detective Agency — he’s the brains and I’m the brawn,” Revri’s Charles says in the teaser, referring to Edwin. “We’re ghosts and we solve mysteries.”
“We’re pretty bang-on detectives, when we’re not hiding from death,” one of the detectives adds.
The friends do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself, according to the official logline, while employing the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal...

Netflix has offered up the first peeks at its upcoming Dead Boy Detectives series.
The show, based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, stars George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, best friends — and ghosts — who help solve paranormal cases in the mortal realm.
At Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives will be part of the Sandman universe (the characters were introduced in Gaiman’s Sandman comics in the early 1990s) — but the series took a winding road to get there. It was initially developed for Max as part of the streamer’s former plans for its DC Universe, with Edwin and Charles making an appearance (although played by different actors) in season three of Doom Patrol.
Max (then HBO Max) ordered it to series in April 2022, but after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reset the DC universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran,...

The “Dead Boy Detectives” series is officially set to air on Netflix after originally being set up at Max.
The show, based on characters created for DC by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, was originally ordered to series at Max back in April 2022. However, it was reported earlier this year that it would be moving to Netflix due to the fact it did not fit the new direction for Max-DC content being spearheaded by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The official description for the eight-episode series states, “Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives. The chaotic adventures of Joker’s psychopathic girlfriend and partner in crime, Harley Quinn are set to come out soon, as the DC animated black comedy superhero show’s Season 4 is marked for a July release.
The last season of ‘Harley Quinn’ began going deeper into her newly branded romantic relationship with Poison Ivy. When the season ended, Harley joined the Bat-Family while Ivy was poised to lead the Legion of Doom. In a funny twist, Batgirl is now the head of the Bat-Family as Bruce Wayne ended up being arrested for tax evasion.
Talking about the upcoming season and Harley’s new heroic role in the show with TVLine, showrunner Justin Halpern said, quoted by Collider: “Things are so binary in the superhero world. Like, there’s a bad guy, there’s a good guy, and the feeling you have to be one of those things. There’s also the idea of,...

The Dead Boy Detectives have a new home: The forthcoming DC drama, from prolific executive producer Greg Berlanti, is moving to Netflix from HBO Max, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The site reports that the shift was made because the series no longer fits with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new plans for the DC comic book movie and TV universe, which is set to include five inter-connected shows that will accompany HBO Max’s Peacemaker. Additionally, the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer would not have been able to market Dead Boy Detectives until 2024, all of which...

DC’s Dead Boy Detectives will do its snooping on a different streamer. Reports indicate the drama is moving from HBO Max, where the show was developed, to Netflix. Sources say the show is changing venues because it doesn’t fit with DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the Dcu. The duo is retooling the DC’s representation across film, television, and video games, ensuring all the pieces fit together to create a cohesive universe of content. The duo’s plans include five inter-connected shows and Peacemaker on HBO Max. At the very least, Dead Boy Detectives is moving to another platform instead of being canceled.
The Dead Boys Detectives series revolves around Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, two dead British teenagers, and their alive friend, Crystal Palace. A press release from HBO Max described it as “a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.

Dead Boy Detectives is moving platforms.
The DC drama based on the Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner comics has been sold from HBO Max, the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed streamer that developed the show, to Netflix. Producers Warner Bros. Television shopped the drama after sources say the series didn’t fit with the new chapter of content that DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are building for the comic book powerhouse. That plan includes five inter-connected shows that will live alongside Peacemaker on HBO Max. Also contributing to the show’s move between platforms is the fact that HBO Max would not have been able to market the show until 2024, with execs at the streamer blessing producers to take the show out elsewhere.
Reps for Netflix, Warners and Berlanti did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.

Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special Trailer: Get Pumped For The 'Best V-d Ever'
It's Valentine's Day in Gotham City, which means love is in the air and people are going at it in the streets. "Harley Quinn" is back with a Valentine's Day special this year, and in typical Harley fashion, the holiday celebrations look to be as vulgar as they are adorable. HBO Max just dropped a trailer for the holiday special, and it includes a sneak peek at Ivy (Lake Bell) and Harley's (Kaley Cuoco) first "V-d" together, Darkseid's (Michael Ironside) "cold, dead" love story, and Bane's (James Adomian) quest to improve a certain part of his anatomy.
"Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine's Day Special" appears to be jam-packed with stories of romance gone mostly awry, as Harley and Ivy's low-key date accidentally turns the whole city horny, but there's some cute stuff in here too. The Riddler (Jim Rash) seems to propose to Clock King (also Adomian), Batgirl (Briana Cuoco...

"I think I may have drank a little too much" Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Rosé All Day, directed by actress Marla Sokoloff. This just sounds like a good time! I'd love to relax and drink Rosé all day, too. A group of late-20s women gather for their annual "Rosé All Day" pool party, where the conversation flows as fast as the wine and the drama follows closely behind. However, after years of babies, careers and different life paths, the cracks in their relationships surface – becoming all-consuming sinkholes filled with vomit, tears and confessions. The humorous film stars Chelsea Alden, Jenna Ushkowitz, Veronica Dunne, Alice Hunter, Briana Cuoco, Cameron Kelly, Avery Norris. This looks like another of these bad Redbox rentals, something to stay away from, unless you also love rosé. ›››

Neil Gaiman is on a roll these days, with his characters appearing in "Doom Patrol" on HBO Max and the Netflix adaptation of "The Sandman" both garnering audience and critical acclaim. News regarding the upcoming "Doom Patrol" spin-off "Dead Boy Detectives" just keeps on rolling, and it's high time that we finally put on our research caps to wrangle as much information as possible regarding the new series based on the comics of the same name from DC, as well as "The Sandman" universe.

The series hails from The Flight Attendant’s Steve Yockey, Doom Patrol’s Jeremy Carver, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. Beach, Colley and Gort join series stars George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri and Kassius Nelson.
The eight-part series is a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne (Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Revri), two dead British teenagers, and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace (Nelson). So, it’s a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.
Beach plays Tragic Mick, a melancholy walrus trapped in a human body who helps the Dead Boys out sometimes.

Last November, it was announced that Alexander Calvert (Supernatural) would be playing Thomas the Cat King in the pilot for the HBO Max series based on Dead Boy Detectives, characters Neil Gaiman created for DC Comics in the pages of The Sandman issue #25. Back in April, HBO Max ordered eight episodes of the series. But today, Variety has broken the news that we won’t be seeing Calvert as Thomas the Cat King when the series reaches the streaming service. Calvert has been replaced by Lukas Gage, whose previous credits include Euphoria, The White Lotus, Into the Dark: Midnight Kiss, and Love, Victor.
Thomas the Cat King will be a series regular on Dead Boy Detectives. The character has the following description: “When Thomas doesn’t hold the appearance of a handsome man full of entitlement or holding court with his subjects he can be seen strutting around town as an attractive Siamese cat.

The Arkham Asylum psychiatrist-turned-henchwoman Harley Quinn has undergone a rich evolution across cartoons, movies, and comics. Bat-smashing her way through adversaries, Harley Quinn is ripe for enthralling chaos. Since her breakout debut in the "Batman: The Animated Series," which spawned her a fanbase and spin-offs, Harley Quinn has ascended to the star of her own television show.
The R-rated "Harley Quinn" animated series follows Harley (Kaley Cuoco) shedding the suffocations of being Joker's (Alan Tudyk) girlfriend. She falls in love with the plant-controlling Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) and forms a new gang. They wreak havoc across Gotham City, mingling with DC villains and heroes. Throughout the series, the DC Universe characters parody themselves while keeping their essence and comic book lore intact. The show's world-building is founded on the humorous idiosyncrasies of villain life and poking fun at the DC Universe's mythos. Here, /Film ranks the best episodes of "Harley Quinn" so far.
