In the conversation between Linnea and Opal in the car, Linnea is eating a popsicle while she tells Opal about her children. A moment later, the popsicle is nowhere to be seen.

Howard K. Smith does a report on Hal Phillip Walker, including that he had won three primaries and was close to winning the primary in Tennessee. In the movie, Walker was not running as a Democrat or Republican, but is a third-party candidate running as the "Replacement Party". He therefore would not have participated in any other party's primary and could not have been reported as having won any primaries.

When attempting to interview Tommy Brown, Opal says that she is from the BBC. When questioned, she explains that this stands for the British Broadcasting Company. It actually stands for the British Broadcasting Corporation. This was intentionally done to insinuate that Opal doesn't actually work for the BBC and was an impostor. Geraldine Chaplin confirmed this in a 2000 interview in Premiere magazine.
