Warner Bros.’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and A24’s Civil War both got off to a slow start at China’s box office over the country’s Dragon Boat Festival holiday weekend as a batch of local releases dominated ticket sales. George Miller’s Furiosa, the first movie of the Mad Max saga to be released theatrically in China, opened in sixth place with $3.7 million, while Alex Garland’s Civil War debuted to just $2.3 million, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway.
Civil War, which was made for about $50 million, was already an international hit with $69 million in total ticket revenue in North America and $114 million worldwide. But George Miller’s Furiosa certainly could have used a bigger boost, as its $144 million at the global box offices is still lagging behind its hefty $168 million production budget. Chinese ticketing app Maoyan forecasts Furiosa to finish its run with about $7.5 million...

Speculations swirled about Mel Gibson’s return to the Mad Max saga, particularly with rumors suggesting Furiosa might entice his comeback, but these hopes were dashed soon after the audience saw the movie.
Despite Mad Max: Fury Road revitalizing the franchise, Gibson wasn’t tapped to reprise his role as Max Rockatansky, instead, Tom Hardy took the reins, while Charlize Theron played Imperator Furiosa.

George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga returned to the wasteland and the grungy dystopian environment fans loved in 2015’s Fury Road. Alyla Browne and Anya Taylor-Joy took over the role of young Furiosa from Charlize Theron and the film explores her origins and adventures over 15-20 years.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys, watcha gonna do? Watcha gonna do when they come for you?
It’s hard to believe, but we’ve only gotten four Bad Boys movies despite it being an almost thirty-year-old franchise. With Will Smith’s stardom reaching truly epic levels, he never really had time to become a “franchise” guy outside of Men in Black (which he eventually left as well), which, in some ways, has been a blessing to this buddy cop series. While audiences are a bit sick of franchises that crank out movie after movie, the Bad Boys films are still pretty fresh, so when they return occasionally, audiences are happy to see them (with the series showing no signs of waning). But, of the movies, which rule the roost as the best of the best? Let’s take a look with our Bad Boys movies ranked list!

Forty-five years after George Miller first brought audiences into the world of Mad Max, the latest installment, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, has set a new milestone for the franchise. Despite its lukewarm box office performance, the film has achieved an impressive 90 percent positive audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Forty-five years after George Miller introduced audiences to Mad Max, the auteur faces a potential new challenge in his storied career. The revered filmmaker’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga debuted with a modest $32 million domestically over the Memorial Day weekend and an additional $36.5 million overseas. This performance well below expectations casts doubt on Mad Max: The Wasteland, another installment Miller has been developing for years. Nico Lathouris and George Miller penned both The Wasteland and Furiosa during the making of the 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road. That film, recognized as an awards season juggernaut, snagged six Oscars...

Mad Max franchise mastermind George Miller recently brought us a new addition to the series with the release of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa (read our review Here) – and while that movie struggles to draw in viewers during its theatrical run, we have decided to take a look back at the first Mad Max sequel, the 1981 classic The Road Warrior (watch it Here). Thanks to photorealistic tech advancements, George Miller evolved his approach to VFX on the “Mad Max” franchise in the nine years since “Fury Road.” Which is why he was much more comfortable using CG in post on “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” His thrilling stunt-driven chase sequences were shot in-camera with as many practical effects as possible, but CG enabled him to achieve greater dynamic energy while enhancing his stylized world-building.
Back from “Fury Road” was production VFX supervisor Andrew Jackson of Dneg, who was eager to play with a bigger digital toolbox. This not only encompassed more realistic fire, water, dust, and smoke but also allowed the VFX team to extend the Wasteland desert landscape and skies and embellish the newly created Gas Town and Bullet Town environments. Plus, they were able to replace or augment the iconic vehicles (especially the multitude of motorcycles) for the action set pieces.

With the underwhelming box office of the latest film in the decade spanning Mad Max franchise, Furiosa, there may be no more of these wonderful, experimental, and auteur-driven action films made. That is a shame. But we can dream. As did this anonymous artist-designer who reimagined what the O.G. vehicle stunt spectacular auteur, Buster Keaton, might have made in the 1920s. Either way, it is pretty clear Silent-Era cinema masterpiece, The General, was a major influence on the Max Max franchise; particularly so as George Miller leaned more and more into vehicular...

Science fiction cinema came of age in the 1950s, beginning an ascent out of the drive-in schlock market that culminated in the boldly experimental yet still commercially viable efforts of the 1960s. That fed directly into the next decade, with sci-fi in the 1970s taking on (for the most part) the same subversive attitude as most other movies made during that era.
But sci-fi movies also entered blockbuster territory in the ‘70s as demonstrated by the massive success of films like Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman: The Movie, Logan’s Run, and Alien. The studios realized that sci-fi could be a cash cow, and as the 1980s dawned, decided to ramp up their genre output, not to mention their budgets, with elaborate visual effects, bigger stars, and more action—even if some of the more cerebral concepts espoused in the earlier decades’ films took a bit of a back seat.

George Miller’s epic Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is now playing in theatres. Even though the first movie failed to win over critics and was panned critically, it made enough splash at the box office to warrant a sequel and keep Sony’s strive for an interconnected universe alive.
However, apart from Venom, Sony’s attempt at a villain-centric universe hasn’t worked out well, as two of their last releases were both critical and box-office failures. But with the threequel on the way, whose first trailer has been released, it seems this might not be the last of the Symbiote.

Sometimes, a deal is not meant to go through, as an interaction that Rick Harrison had on an episode of Pawn Stars proved recently.
While fans wait for new episodes of Pawn Stars, The History Channel shared Season 15, Episode 2, on its YouTube channel.
Fans are reacting to one of the deals involving a rare scouting patch that a lady was trying to sell to take her family on a trip.
The patch was what Rick called the “Holy Grail of WWII patches,” an Alamo Scouts WWII military patch, and the original owner’s granddaughter was trying to sell it.
The seller wanted $6500 for the rare patch that any scouting or WWII collector would snatch up instantly if it were real and they had the cash.
Once the expert, Mark Hall-Patton, was called in and confirmed it was real, the haggling began for this scarce scouting patch, of which only 440 were made.

Monday Am: For those keeping track, Paramount’s If did not push Warner Bros.’ Furiosa into third, but the Ryan Reynolds starring, John Krasinski written/produced/directed title did put up a great hold in weekend 3 with -35%. Finals this Am for the top three pics are Sony’s The Garfield Movie at $14M, -42%; Warner Bros’ Furiosa at $10.785M, -59%; and Paramount’s If at $10.5M.
Can’t stress enough that we’ll have to have patience with the box office until Father’s Day weekend and beyond. No major studio event film on any weekend means no box office, and that’s exactly what went on here. With Garfield at $51.5M through ten days, and If at $80.1M, $1.2M ahead of Reynold’s Free Guy at same point in time, the live-action family movies are doing what they’re suppose to do. George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the newest addition to the Mad Max franchise, and the film has never looked as grim and exhilarating at the same time in the series’ history. The film is a treat for every viewer who craves action and an immersive storyline at the same time. Despite the current film being a prequel series, Miller has not held back in creating a violent world as he goes all out in creating a post-apocalyptic world.

George Miller’s Mad Max franchise is one of the most revered action franchises of all time. After it spun out the Tom Hardy-starrer Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road, all we got is a prequel about the character Furiosa. Starring Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, two immensely popular actors, the movie made its debut with rave reviews but has been struggling at the box office.

While even fans described the film as incredible to watch, the movie failing to live up to its expectations at the box office can be attributed to one Star Wars movie. Solo: A Star Wars Story was a bomb at the box office despite being based on one of the best fictional characters of all time. And while the two franchises share little similarity, the fate of Solo seems to predict that Furiosa was deemed to fail.

The prequel to the 2015 film, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is a film directed by George Miller starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. It’s another mesmerizing chapter of the Mad Max saga that has continued to captivate audiences since its debut in 1979.
The original Mad Max, apart from skyrocketing Mel Gibson to fame, revolutionized American B-series cinema by creating a futuristic yet low-budget movie – a germination of ideas that other productions were quick to take advantage of.
Then came 2015 when George Miller decided to resurrect this title, providing a completely fresh experience while still abiding by the essence of the 70s movie. Now, we have this second installment, maintaining the original spirit but splashes even more action onto the screen – just what the audience craves.
The 2015 movie starred Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, while “Furiosa” showcases the talent of Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke, a cast that guarantees top-notch performances and quality.

“The Garfield Movie” clawed its way to first place, overtaking last weekend’s champion “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” at the domestic box office.
This weekend (unlike last) wasn’t a nail-biter as “Garfield” effortlessly pulled ahead with $14 million from 4,108 theaters in its second weekend of release, while “Furiosa” trailed in third place with $10.7 million from 3,864 venues in its sophomore outing. Now, Sony’s “The Garfield Movie” has grossed $51.5 million in North America and $152 million globally to date. It’s a solid showing for the $60 million-budgeted film. “Furiosa,” the fifth entry in Warner Bros. and director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic “Mad Max” series, has generated $49.6 million domestically and $114 million worldwide. With a $168 million price tag, the R-rated tentpole has a much steeper path to profitability.
Though “Garfield” gets first-place bragging rights, it’s another terrible weekend at the box office with ticket sales a staggering 65% behind the same three-day period in 2023. As a result,...

After his blockbuster stint with Marvel, Chris Hemsworth has set his sights on another big franchise. The Thor actor has lent his voice to the now-famous character of Optimus Prime from the Transformers film series in an animated film that is due to hit screens in September 2024. In addition, the actor will also reportedly be involved in a crossover Transformers/G.I. Joe film that is currently untitled.

But his association with the franchise could be a hit or miss commercially judging by the poor box office records of the last film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts which earned the dubious distinction of being the lowest grossing film of the series. It now remains to be seen if Hemsworth’s star power can change this fate.

The Mad Max franchise is unarguably one of the most popular action franchises of all time, created by mastermind George Miller. While the star power connected to it — which includes notable names like Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and Mel Gibson — is one factor behind its epic success, its breathtaking action sequences and stunt scenes further set the saga apart from every other.

The Mad Max films by George Miller created a new revolution in cinema and cemented the director’s place as one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers alongside the likes of George Lucas who also pioneered an iconic franchise with Star Wars. One celebrity who played a big part in Miller’s success was Charlize Theron who starred in the pivotal role of Furiosa in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Back in 2010, it was reported that director George Miller would be shooting two new entries in his Mad Max franchise back-to-back: the sequel Mad Max: Fury Road and a follow-up called Furiosa. But things didn’t work out that way, and making Mad Max: Fury Road on its own proved to quite a struggle – a five month shoot in the deserts of Namibia, with two lead actors (Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Furiosa) who couldn’t stand each other. Miller didn’t let the grueling process put him off making more Mad Max movies, though. Immediately after the release of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015, Miller announced that he had already written a screenplay and a novella of further stories… and Max himself would return in a film called Mad Max: The Wasteland. But nine years have passed, the Fury Road prequel Furiosa is now in theatres,...

One weird thing that happens with long-running franchises is that they eventually reach a point where the creatives leading the new movies grew up as fans of the old ones. Sometimes this is a bad thing — it arguably leads to an increase in lazy fan-service at the expense of any bold, innovative creative decisions — but other times it just makes the whole thing feel even more exciting. To know that the new people in charge truly care about the lore can go a long way in keeping viewers on board.

While most know Kevin Costner for all the masterpieces he has led to date which include credits like Yellowstone and Dances with Wolves, not many know that the actor cum producer has led some epically disastrous projects as well. And while these projects didn’t necessarily drown because of his acting, one of them did, in fact, end up in the dump because of its bloated budget.

This dates back to the 1990s, when having budgets for a project in tens of millions was already considered high, let alone one in hundreds of millions, like Waterworld, which was, pretty much, one of the biggest disasters in Hollywood. The reason behind this was Costner himself, who ended up shooting up the budget by a whopping 35 times than what was required!
