One of Madonna‘s husbands directed a controversial music video for her. The violent clip was only played on MTV during certain hours. Arguably, the lyrics of the song in question were a lot more provocative than anything that happened in the video.
Madonna’s husband directed a music video about horrific road rage
Madonna was married to film director Guy Ritchie, known for films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and the live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin. His films are often violent. It was almost inevitable that Ritchie and Madonna would make a music video together and that it would be provocative.
During a 2002 interview with CNN, Madonna discussed working with her husband. “For a song called ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl,’ and I loved working with him on that,” the “La Isla Bonita” singer said. “And that we did a five minute...

Matthew Vaughn is a savvy filmmaker who should know his films, particularly when they go sailing over the top narratively and tonally — which describes pretty much all of them save for his 2004 debut directorial effort, "Layer Cake" and the open-hearted whimsy of "Stardust" — tend to divide critics. You either go with the rousingly ultraviolent superhero satire of "Kick-Ass," or you rage against its vile excesses, chief among them being the transformation of an 11-year-old into a gun-wielding, slicing-and-dicing whirlwind of death known as Hit Girl. He specializes in juvenile subversion, but if you can get past the giddy excess of his films, they occasionally contain a surprising degree of thematic depth.
Vaughn's 2024 flop "Argylle" was not, on any level, a thoughtful film. It's a star-studded stew of a spy-comedy romp that's meant as a one-and-done spinoff from the director's largely successful "Kingsman" franchise. On the surface, given its colorful assortment of celebrities,...

Matthew Vaughn is responding to the heavy criticism his film Argylle received.
The film starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard was not well-received by film critics and the box office, and the director is weighing in on what happened.
“My guard came down on Argylle. We had done test screenings that had gone fantastically well. The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to the Snatch days where there was such excitement. And I started drinking the Kool-Aid,” he said in an interview with Empire magazine.
He continued, “It’s a fun, feel-good movie, or I thought it was a fun, feel-good movie. We didn’t make Citizen Kane, but f***ing hell, then the reviews came out and I’m like, ‘Wait, what have I done to offend these people?’ They were vitriolic. I’m not saying the movie’s perfect by any means,...

Henry Cavill’s biggest flop of the year surprised director Matthew Vaughn in ways he did not expect. The filmmaker, who also helmed the successful Kingsman franchise, thought the 2024 spy thriller film would be a nice feel-good show for everyone, but what happened was the complete opposite.
Henry Cavill in Argylle / Universal Pictures
Argylle was peppered with harsh criticism from fans and reviewers. Over the past years, there has been an oversaturation of espionage-themed movies in the market, but the root cause of its failure was the early negative reviews that discouraged fans from giving it a chance.

'Argylle' director Matthew Vaughn was hurt by the "vitriolic" reaction to his movie. The 53-year-old filmmaker was at the helm of the star studded spy comedy - which featured the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Samuel L. Matthew Vaughn recently opened up to Empire magazine about enduring some of the worst reviews of his career with “Argylle,” the $200 million star-studded spy comedy that flopped in theaters this year with $96 million worldwide. The film, backed by Apple and released theatrically by Universal, intended to start a franchise and starred Bryce Dallas Howard as a reclusive spy novelist thrust into a real world of espionage. Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena and more co-starred.
“Fuck yeah,” Vaughn responded when asked if the extremely negative “Argylle” reviews were disappointing to read. The movie has a 33% Rotten Tomatoes score from 292 reviews.

Matthew Vaughn has managed to establish himself as a brand name when action comedies are concerned. He managed to achieve success with the Kingsman series, but his filmography includes other interesting titles such as Stardust (2007), Kick-Ass (2010), and X-Men: First Class (2011). Vaughn is definitely a director who is interesting and who knows his trade, but his most recent feature, Argylle, was a complete flop, despite a potentially intriguing premise and a star-filled cast. The critics have panned the Kingsman spin-off, and it was a disaster at the box office, earning less than $100 million against a $200 million budget.
In a recent talk with Empire magazine, Vaughn discussed the reception of Argylle, and the director was not shy about expressing his disappointment with how it all turned out for the movie. He believes firmly that the movie was not that bad and that the reactions were simply too harsh.

In somewhat of an omen, one of the year’s earliest big releases that featured an all-star cast and aimed for major commercial appeal flopped at the box office amid some major critical and viewer jeers. Matthew Vaughn’s attempt at creating a new franchise with the twisty-turny action-comedy Argylle did not land in the slightest, despite it seeming like such a no-brainer hit that the director had already been coming up with ideas for sequels. Those who have seen the movie may even remember a post-credits scene that is intended to lead into the next chapter.
Vaughn has now recently opened up to Empire about being blindsided by the negative reactions to his film. When asked if it was disappointing to see such a reception, Vaughn naturally replied, “F*ck yeah.” The X-Men: First Class director went on to explain, “My guard came down on Argylle. We had done...

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most prolific filmmakers in Hollywood. The maverick director is known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and the Kill Bill franchise. He is known for his particular brand of violent entertainers with a tribute to the films and TV shows he grew up with in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
In 2008, the filmmaker made one of his best-reviewed works Inglorious Basterds. The film saw a group of US soldiers infiltrating Nazi Germany during the Second World War. While Tarantino approached the subject with a revisionist history lens, he reportedly also wrote a segment in the original script that he wanted to turn into a spinoff film called Killer Crow.

While most of the hype is gained by actors, it is the writers’ guild who are unspoken heroes that deserve more recognition. The right screenplay and, in particular, the well-written lines make a movie catchy and unforgettable for the audience.
While Quentin Tarantino’s works are considered the best in this respect, there are some other films with perfect onscreen conversations. Here are 6 of them, picked by Reddit.
Snatch (2000)
Guy Ritchie’s iconic crime comedy about London’s criminal underworld is truly the right choice if you’re searching for a perfectly-written flick. The showdowns of small-time gangsters and powerful mafiosos are here extremely razor-sharp and entertaining.
True Grit (2010)
The Coen Brothers can certainly teach the art of dialogue, and it’s proved by their successful remake of the 1969 classic Western. The story of a girl on her way to avenge her father’s killer is enhanced by the writing...

Being presumably the most recognized action star of the 21st century, Jason Statham made his name known around the world with such staples of the genre, as Crank (2006), The Mechanic (2011), Wrath of Man (2021) and, of course, the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disappointingly, his last movie rated 70% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes was the 2015 hit Spy. Since then, Statham starred only in critically panned or even commercially failed flicks, however, this year Amazon released a movie that changed that trend
The plot revolves around Statham’s Adam Clay, a former secret agent who is enraged by the suicide of his landlady, caused by the loss of her charity's funds to a phishing scam.
Urging for revenge, Adam sets out a campaign against those responsible for that scam, and this operation promises to take on national stakes, as the guilty ones acknowledge he was a member of a powerful clandestine organization.

The Harry Potter franchise made worldwide stars of its main three actors, who portray Harry, Hermione and Ron. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson seem to be in sight after the last Hp movie was released in 2011, while the fate of Rupert Grint, who played the most awkward and the youngest son of the Weasley family, is lesser known.
It turns out that after starring in Harry Potter, which was quite a challenge to Grint, he preferred to explore indie films and take the unexpectedly extravagant roles.
His first post-Potter project was the 2012 war drama Into the White, and the actor’s feisty character was definitely a far cry from Ron Weasley.
This trend continued in the 2013 biopic Cbgb, where Grint reunited with the Severus Snape actor, Alan Rickman, with them playing drastically different roles they had in Hp. Besides, that year is remarkable for the actor’s appearance in Charlie Countryman.

“It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder,” the actor Ben Daniels announced on Instagram. Daniels revealed that Gelder had been diagnosed with bile duct cancer five months ago and that “neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast.”
“He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years. If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday,” Daniels wrote. “He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being. He was a wonderful wonderful actor, and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light.

With ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, Guy Ritchie returns to his storytelling roots, reminiscent of his earlier works like ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’. This film, while standing on the familiar ground of high-stakes, artistically violent narratives, uses a historically inspired backdrop unlike any other. A high-octane blend of fact and fiction dazzles as Ritchie applies his signature quick cuts and gritty aesthetic to the murky waters of WWII espionage. Guy Ritchie has directed everything from low-budget hits like the crime caper "Snatch" to the $1 billion monster hit that was 2019's live-action "Aladdin" remake. But the director has also been behind some pretty big misfires, most notably 2017's "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Ritchie has been on a tear lately though, releasing three movies in theaters over the last 13 months. Unfortunately for the filmmaker and all involved, every single one of those movies has disappointed -- if not outright flopped -- at the box office.

With the sole exception of Zack Snyder, there might not be a director currently working who is more fascinated by telling stories about tough guys committing violent acts while barely breaking a sweat more than Guy Ritchie. Sean Connery’s legacy in film history is irrefutable just as much as his contribution to the evolution of late 20th-century cinema. Despite the era’s misgivings and misogyny, Connery remains an irrevocable icon for his role as James Bond in the franchise’s first live-action film Dr. No. His blue-eyed, broad-shouldered, and laid-back charm not only hypnotized millions but also brought the Scotsman fame on a level previously unheard of.

Sadder still, the actor blatantly used his fame as a tool to lord over industry producers and directors for a bigger payday.

Sadder still, the actor blatantly used his fame as a tool to lord over industry producers and directors for a bigger payday.

Cinematic universes may be on the decline, but Guy Ritchie has just stumbled upon the potential for a fun one with his frequently amusing “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” a light and sloppy World War II caper that reimagines Winston Churchill (Rory Kinnear) as Nick Fury, and a series of rakish, Nazi-killing brutes as his own personal Avengers.
Men on a mission films like “The Guns of the Navarone” might seem to be the more obvious points of reference here, but by the time Churchill is spitting orders at Ian Fleming (“Slow Horses” shitheel Freddie Fox), assigning real-life actress/spy Marjorie Stewart to some “Casablanca” cosplay with a sadistic Nazi commander, and waiting by the phone to hear if his top-secret wrecking crew has managed to sink the German ships that supply Hitler’s fleet of U-boats, saving the world merely seems like the set-up for the bigger and better...

There's nobody quite like Guy Ritchie. One of the notable directors who has repeatedly dipped toes in both extremes of the budgetary pool, his unmitigated success with early features like "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" eventually gave way to blockbusters on the level of "Sherlock Holmes" and "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" -- all bearing his unmistakable fingerprints as much as his various mid-budget efforts do, which recently span five total films in the last five years. Though perhaps not considered a household name among the most casual of moviegoers, chances are high that the hardworking Ritchie's brand of rapid-fire editing, roguish characters with snappy dialogue, and oh-so-English humor (humour?) are instantly recognizable on some level, at least.
Yet that's perhaps the same reason why "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," his newest World War II action/comedy loosely based on historical events, feels jarringly at odds...

Henry Cavill’s new movie, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, has a surprising link to 007. Set to release this April, the film is loosely based on the real-life exploits of the Special Operations Executive (Soe), a covert British organization crucial to the Allied victory.

Britain’s contributions to the cinematic form have been vast and glorious. Aardman Animation. Alfred Hitchcock. Olivia Colman. 007. High up that list, too, is the British gangster movie – sure, America may often get the genre limelight with classics like Goodfellas, The Godfather trilogy, and Scarface, but nobody does dark, gritty, violent, and darkly humorous quite like the British. You certainly wouldn’t catch football-hardman-turned-movie-hardman Vinnie Jones rolling down the street with some poor geezer’s bonce trapped in his car window anywhere else, that’s for sure!
And so, with tracksuits on, geezer nicknames doled out, and knuckles dusted, Team Empire assembled a list of the very best British gangster movies ever made. From comedy classics, to bruising turn-of-the-century tales of brutality and crime, to contemporary subversions of the genre formula, we’ve covered all bases. The Gentlemen is the latest entry into Guy Ritchie‘s chaotic and hilarious world of crime. The Netflix series is created by Ritchie himself and it is set in the world of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. It follows the story of Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits the title of Duke and his father’s whole estate. Still, he is more surprised as what he doesn’t know is that his father was in cahoots with criminals, who were growing cannabis on their estate. Eddie decides that he wants to rid his family estate of all the weed plants and criminals, but before he can do that he might have to do some criminal things himself first. The Gentlemen stars Theo James in the lead roles with Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Alexis Rodney, and Harry Goodwins starring in supporting roles.

In addition to starring in many British films, Vinnie Jones ventured into the superhero genre with Stephen Amell’s Arrow. The actor played Danny Brickwell in the show. However, it was not the only superhero project that the actor participated in. Before Arrow, Jones was in Brett’s Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

While forgettable to anyone not tasked with remembering it, Guy Ritchie’s 2019 feature film “The Gentlemen” does embody the two distinct halves shaping the writer-director’s career to date. At the height of its binary world are the aristocrats: affluent Englishmen whose titles and estates grant them access to a refined class of lords and ladies. On the other end are the criminals: conniving Brits who do the dirty work necessary just to get by. What brings them together is Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), an American living in London who builds a massive marijuana business by hiding his farms under the sweeping landscapes of the rich and fortified. The aristocrats get a hefty kickback to support their lavish lifestyle, and the criminals get the relative safety only wealth can offer. Two classes colliding — which happens once someone inevitably screws up — is what gives “The Gentlemen” its juice. Or it’s supposed to,...

“Deadpool” star Karan Soni (Dopinder) told Variety this week that a ton of surprise cameos were filmed for the upcoming third installment, “Deadpool and Wolverine,” adding: “Let’s just say a lot of people traveled to London [for filming].” One actor who apparently did not make it to London was Vinnie Jones, who debuted as Juggernaut in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” Jones recently told Yahoo Movies UK that he turned down a request to reprise the character in “Deadpool and Wolverine” because getting in his Juggernaut suit isn’t the best experience.
“Funnily enough I just got asked to do ‘Deadpool,’ the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically,” Jones said. “It had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw.

In 2019, filmmaker Guy Ritchie went back to his crime comedy roots with “The Gentlemen,” a film very much in the vein of early films like “Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.” And, of course, in the ensuing years, especially during the pandemic, in the rush and craze for content, everyone wanted a spin-off that would pay handsomely for them, and creators were more happy to oblige.

Brad Pitt is in talks to star in Quentin Tarantino’s 10th and supposedly final film The Movie Critic, even as one scene from the actor’s past continues to leave fans bewildered. The scene in question comes from the 1998 fantasy drama Meet Joe Black, in which Pitt’s character talks in patois in the hospital, fans have pointed out the “absurd” accent. Fans have derided the sequence as “absurd” for decades.

With The Beekeeper proving to be one of the year’s biggest sleeper hits (we loved it), Jason Statham’s status as an action star is again on solid ground. I say again because Expend4bles, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and a few other movies of his whiffed at the box office. Nevertheless, The Beekeeper proved that Statham can still ace the right vehicle, so we thought now would be a great time to look at his action filmography and choose his best action flick. To note, movies like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels aren’t included, as they aren’t traditional action movies.

After seemingly coming out of nowhere with his slick crime caper Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie faced the huge task of topping his debut effort with his second movie, Snatch. In the movie, Ritchie built upon his unique style and delivered another smash hit that has since endured a lasting legacy. Revolving around a plethora of characters, Snatch intertwines the lives of the deepest and darkest criminals of London. However, this is done so with a sleekly tight pacing and a splice of humour that would go on to be labelled “acid humour”. What’s striking about Guy Ritchie‘s...

When British producer-director Matthew Vaughn’s latest had its red-carpet premiere in London in mid-January 2024, the film made local headlines for reasons probably not intended by the filmmakers and their distributor, Universal.
