Max has done it again. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled another one of their masterful, underappreciated shows, this time the enthralling, cross-cultural crime period piece “Tokyo Vice.” The news was announced at the PGA’s Produced By conference by the show’s creator and executive producer J.T. Rogers and executive producer and director Alan Poul during a panel with Max original programming chief, Sarah Aubrey.
Despite the series’ short run, the panelists indicated that this was a mutual decision.
“We’re grateful not only to Max, but to our partners Fifth Season, who sold the show around the world, and made it a global success story,” Rogers and Poul wrote in join statement shared by Variety. “They were in the trenches with us always, guaranteeing that we could make the show we wanted to make. The response from both the press and from fans, in particular to Season 2, has been overwhelming.

As your budget gets stretched, it’s worth considering whether it’s worth downshifting to an ad-supported plan instead of canceling altogether. The Streamable is here to help you decide.

The latest news coverage in Hollywood has been more concerned with the resolution or escalation of the conflict between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. Despite countless interviews and statements, the rumors whispering about Costner’s apparent return (or lack thereof) to Yellowstone have occupied our every waking hour.
But even in the middle of all the chaos, it becomes harder to hide the real reason behind the audience’s fierce attachment and loyalty to the Dutton patriarch.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]With an almost sociopathic tendency in his character’s nature and a ruthless moral compass that moves its needle only when he commands it to, Kevin Costner’s terrifying character is quick to capture the audience’s hearts, simply based on historical evidence alone. Shows with characters as instinctively evil as John Dutton have been known to attract a higher percentage of viewers, and this has remained true since the days of The Sopranos.

Wendell Pierce revealed on X that an apartment owner recently denied his request for an apartment in Harlem, N.Y. despite his rock-solid income from various film and television roles over the last year and change. Pierce alleged that his application was rejected due to racism.

Six Feet Under probably doesn’t come to most people’s minds when discussing HBO’s best series because it doesn’t have a controversial, overarching subject matter.
The Sopranos remains appealing to new viewers mainly due to its mafia backdrop. The Wire catches eyes because cop dramas are a known quantity. With Six Feet Under, however, creator Alan Ball (who also helmed HBO’s queer-coded horror spectacle True Blood) crafted a simple drama about a loving yet chaotic family who runs a funeral home. That doesn’t seem all that exciting to an audience member going in with no prior knowledge. Still, all it should take is a few episodes of the show for that viewer to become instantly obsessed with the raw, authentic characters and real life issues that it expertly depicts.
From death anxiety to coping with chronic illness, the series forces the people on screen and...

Throughout the years on modern TV, police procedurals have always been a frequent choice for an evening watch due to its compelling and action-packed storylines, remembering the genre’s CBS giant NCIS that’s been on air for decades will be enough in this case.
Despite being based on the existing system of police work across the world, such shows are still created from scratch, basing its plot only on the general idea of such an environment. Still, however good NCIS may seem to its long-time fans, another similar show back in the day surely captivated millions of viewers thanks to its real-life story.
HBO’s crime drama The Wire had its television run from 2002 to 2008 and, just like other police procedurals, turned all of its attention to a specific problem of drug use in the US, but with a different approach. The show initially was created by David Simon...

Plot: Vincent, one of New York’s leading puppeteers and creator of the hugely popular children’s television show, ‘Good Day Sunshine,’ struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar, becoming increasingly distressed and volatile. Full of self-loathing and guilt around Edgar’s disappearance, he clings to his son’s drawings of a blue monster puppet, Eric, convinced that if he can get Eric on TV then Edgar will come home. As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home.
Review: The idea behind Eric, as depicted in the trailer for the series, is a fascinating concept. A man driven to the edge of sanity after the disappearance of his son bonds with an imaginary monster created by his child to rescue him.

The new Netflix miniseries Eric asks one of the universal questions: What if Jim Henson was an emotionally abusive drunk, his son went missing in mid-Eighties New York City, the investigation involved crooked cops and a queer nightclub and an underground encampment for the unhoused, and Henson began hallucinating conversations with his newest Muppet as a way to cope with all of this?
You know, that old chestnut.

There is nothing fun about watching your favorite TV show come to an end, but there are many ways to make a finale at least somewhat comforting and promising. Or, at the very least, entertaining enough that fans will remember it for a very long time.
Right now, due to the impact of the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes on the television industry, there are many shows that are nearing their end. Whether any of them will come close to the finales on this list is questionable, but keep in mind these 10 shows that became a blueprint for wrapping up great storylines.

When you think about shows that have gone off the rails, Riverdale, Dexter, Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, or Glee usually come to mind.
The majority of the time, it isn't enjoyable. The digression can make for poor television.
However, there are certain cases where it makes TV gold.
Creating Uniqueness
Keeping an audience interested and on the edge of their seats can be challenging.
We want to be enthralled, but that comes with the fact that doing this means changing plots, characters, or many other factors.
Going off the rails does not always have to be a negative thing.
Community, for example, started as a traditional sitcom, but its ever-evolving nature created a cult classic and a truly entertaining hit that never became stagnant.
And then there's The Leftovers, a drama that significantly changed after its first season.

Since TNT is a live cable channel, it is not available on Prime Video. You can stream TNT online, but you will need another service. In 2024, four live TV streaming services carry the full TNT channel: Directv Stream, Hulu Live TV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV. Think of those services as replacements for a traditional cable package — you would just get your TV over the internet.

The first season of Reacher became an unexpected hit – the adaptation of Lee Child's novels attracted viewers unfamiliar with the source material, as well as fans of the books who complained that the character previously played by Tom Cruise was far from what Child described.
The second season came out almost two years after the release of the first, and the show was renewed for a third season at the end of 2023. And only recently new information has emerged – a new chapter of Reacher's story will be released in 2025.
It's still a long wait, so here are five TV shows to help you pass the time while you wait for the new season.

Dressed like an extra from The Crow, the actor plays a tragicomic supporting character in this drama that feels like a TV pilot show
Set in New York City and filmed in Manchester, England, here is a film that aims to play like a feature-length episode of The Wire or The Sopranos. Naturally, that is not an easy target to hit, and the result, while decent enough, falls somewhat short but is still watchable.
Luke Evans plays Adam, a nice guy who made a terrible mistake in his youth: shooting another young man and going to prison for 16 years. His partner, Donna (Stephanie Leonidas), has brought up their son Jimmy to believe his dad simply skipped town and abandoned them, so she’s none too chuffed to find Adam back in the neighbourhood and desperate to reconnect with a now-teenaged Jimmy (Rudy Pankow).

The fans are having a fit after the results of the UK’s Sexiest Men Alive list were dropped online. What’s more surprising is the fact that the multi-talented actor, Idris Elba has not ranked among the top 5 in the list, which is making fans wonder about how those results came into existence.

Apple TV+’s highly anticipated adaptation of Laura Lippman’s mystery novel “Lady in the Lake” — starring Natalie Portman — will premiere with the first two episodes on July 19, the streamer announced Wednesday.
The seven-part limited series follows a bored Jewish housewife (Portman) in the 1960s, who divorces her husband and moves to Baltimore to work as an investigative journalist. She soon becomes fixated on the perplexing death of Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram), a mother who struggled to provide for her family while navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore.
The book was brought to famed director Alma Har’el by the late Jean-Marc Vallée and his producing partner, Nathan Ross; she jumped at the chance to adapt the complex novel, which has made headlines since its straight-to-series pickup three years ago.

Police dramas are one of the most popular genres of television content, a source of stories, many of which may not be suitable for a full-length movie, but fit perfectly into a short episode format. Is "The Wire" still one of the greatest TV shows of all time? David Simon's sprawling, complex portrait of Baltimore has appeared on multiple "best of" lists over the years, popping up near the top of masterpiece-filled rankings from outlets like Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Empire, and more. The HBO series, which really couldn't have worked before that channel's dominance in early 2000s, currently ranks sixth-highest of all time on IMDb, and despite never winning an Emmy, it's earned a Peabody, DGA and WGA awards, and a spot on the American Film Institute's Television Programs of The Year list three different times.

"The Wire" is no doubt a work of storytelling genius, and much of its tremendous effect is cumulative. The series starts at the street level of Maryland's biggest city, examining the effects of drugs and gang life before refocusing...

Dominic West and Lily James made headlines back in 2020 for their Pda scandal during his marriage with aristocrat, Catherine FitzGerald. While their affair rumors caught extreme media attention, the actor makes a rare statement, claiming that the scandal helped him in portraying the now United Kingdom King, Charles III in The Crown show.
Dominic West as Prince Charles in a still from The Crown (2016 – 2023)
The historical drama show consists of six seasons, which primarily focus on the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. While the former plays Prince Charles III in the series, he was spotted in Rome with his The Pursuit of Love costar, sparkling attention among the media. However, that incident helped him in his work.

HBO pioneered many of the genres and formats that have become standards in the modern TV industry. Its shows have become synonymous with entire eras: the pop culture of the early 2000s is impossible to imagine without Sex and the City, the 2010s without Game of Thrones, the 2020s without Euphoria.
The success of The Sopranos and Sex and the City, which ensured HBO's special status in the media culture of the 2000s, somewhat overshadowed the third truly revolutionary series of the decade, which largely determined the style of the network's future projects: The Wire.
The Wire Was a Revolutionary TV Project
Created by David Simon, a former Baltimore Sun reporter, the show pioneered the challenging experimental solutions that would later be associated with Game of Thrones. First, The Wire revived the clichéd genre of the police procedural, just as Game of Thrones has rehabilitated the geek fantasy.

Dominic West has spoken out in support of his former co-star’s criticisms of The Affair.
British actor West, who got his big TV break as maverick policeman McNulty in The Wire and most recently starred as Prince Charles in the final two series of The Crown, filmed five seasons of the hit drama on Showtime, but his co-star Ruth Wilson was written out of the series after four.
In 2020, Wilson – who it is speculated signed an NDA on her departure – recalled that “things didn’t feel right” on the show, she didn’t always “feel safe” and raised the particular concern that, during the filming of sex scenes, the cameras always focused on her “orgasm face,” not that of male actors’.
In an interview with The Times of London, West hesitated to contribute to the discussion, but he lent his support to Wilson, saying: “We talked a lot about...

That's not the case for these seven crime shows, which maintain their 100% fresh rating even now.
Rough Diamonds
Number of Episodes: 8
After his little brother commits suicide, Noah Wolfson comes home to Antwerp, where he reluctantly reconnects with the ultra-Orthodox Haredi community that he left behind years ago. Soon he is dragged into his family's business in the diamond trade, which is in debt by more than 1 million euros and has several shady characters breathing down their necks.
Critics Say: 'While offering an insight into this guarded, little-seen community, the series also works well as a thriller. But, at its heart is the dependable dramatic staple of a powerful family in turmoil, battling to stay intact and afloat.' – The Age (Australia)
The Snow Girl
Number of Episodes: 6

Before The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Six Feet Under, The Wire, or any of the other popular HBO shows, there was Oz. The one-hour drama chronicled the lives of the staff and inmates at the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum security penitentiary home to the most violent offenders in the state. It’s been over twenty years since the series concluded, but creator Tom Fontana is back with an Oz short film starring Lee Tergesen as Tobias Beecher and Dean Winters as Ryan O’Reily.
Titled Zo, the short film actually premiered at the Atx Festival in 2021, but few people were able to see it. Thankfully, Zo will premiere on YouTube on May 1st, giving fans around the world the chance to finally see it. According to Kirk Acevado, who starred in Oz as Miguel Alvarez, it could even lead to a sequel series if the short film gets enough buzz.
