Storyline
Did you know
- TriviaArik Soong is played by Brent Spiner, best known for playing Lt. Commander Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987). Comments by production staff (as well as the casting of Spiner) indicated that Arik Soong was intended to be the great-grandfather of Noonien Soong, Data's creator (also played by Spiner). This is supported by Arik Soong's comment about cybernetics, when he said that developing an artificial life form "might take a generation or two." While writing his notes, it can be noted that Arik Soong is left-handed, just like his great-grandson, and his android creations.
- GoofsIf Raakin is the strongest among the augments, one would find it strange that he would just stand there and let Malik stab him. Someone of such superior ability would have put up more of a fight or had a back up plan.
- Quotes
Dr. Arik Soong: [on genetic engineering] I didn't realize you shared Humanity's reactionary attitude toward this field of medicine.
Dr. Phlox: On the contrary. We've used genetic engineering on Denobula for over two centuries, to generally positive effect.
Dr. Arik Soong: But you don't approve of what I've done.
Dr. Phlox: You tried to redesign your species. The first time that was attempted on Earth, the result was 30 million deaths.
Dr. Arik Soong: We can't let past mistakes hold us back.
Dr. Phlox: It's your responsibility as a scientist to learn from past mistakes.
