Moon Knight star Ethan Hawke and Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey starred in James DeMonaco’s 2013 dystopian horror film The Purge, a major box-office success despite its mixed reviews. The insane plot of the film was derived from a real-life event that the director himself has encountered.
The Purge (2013) / Universal Pictures
Of course, DeMonaco did not participate in any purging activities, but the idea came from his wife which he thought was a brilliant concept that must be put on the big screen.
How The Purge Director Came Up With The Movie’s Insane Concept
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, filmmaker James DeMonaco revealed how he got the central idea for The Purge. The film’s premise is quite simple: once a year, people are allowed to legally commit all crimes from dusk to dawn without getting punished.
My wife said something in a road rage incident that stayed with me.

Game of Thrones which was adapted from a series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin titled A Song of Ice and Fire, took the world by storm by becoming one of the most popular television shows of all time. The series ended its 8th season with a staggering 10 million viewers tuning in to watch it reach its culmination on HBO.

Martin had originally created a 5-year time skip after a significant event in the novels that opened up the next set of plot lines in the narrative. The show though, did not incorporate this aspect of the author’s writing into the seasons. But looking back, this time skip could have fixed a few of the loopholes that affected the continuity of the story.

The show is an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel from 1975 of the same name. The series’ dedication to being true to the source material garnered it a massive fan following.

Emilia Clarke “couldn’t carry on” after surviving two brain aneurysms during “Game of Thrones.”
The actress, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO show, told Big Issue that she was first concerned she would “get fired” following her aneurysms. At one point, as Big Issue wrote, Clarke even “asked medical staff to let her die” in fear of never acting again.
“When you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight,” Clarke said. “The first fear we all had was, ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they think I’m not capable of completing the job?’”
Clarke recalled thinking while filming, “Well, if I’m going to die, I better die on…TV.”

Plot: Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively.
Review: It was always going to be an uphill climb for House of the Dragon to live up to the peak of Game of Thrones. With an uneven first season but still better than the ending of the series that inspired it, House of the Dragon concluded its first season with the beginning of a civil war between Targaryens vying for the Iron Throne. Despite solid performances from Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, House of the Dragon‘s sprawling time jumps and reliance on dragons rather than intriguing characters worth investing in made it hard to care about what happened until the war began. Even though it is two episodes shorter than the previous season, House of the Dragon begins with...

Nowhere is safe. This most basic of horror premises — and the sheer simplicity of its implications — has fueled countless classics and scares over the years. One of the biggest early surprises of this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "The Damned," takes this unsettling idea to even greater heights and establishes a can't-miss new talent cut from a similar cloth as Robert Eggers along the way. Icelandic writer/director Thordur Palsson (Netflix's "The Valhalla Murders" miniseries) makes his feature debut with a story set amid the late 1800s in a desolate fishing station, where a tiny Nordic community ekes out a living from a punishing environment that treats them as hostile invaders. The harsh (but gorgeously-shot) tundra and freezing waters trapping them on all sides lends a physical threat as imposing as the labyrinthine Nostromo in "Alien" or the research station in "The Thing." But in a supernatural wrinkle taken straight...

With a repertoire of acclaimed films and shows under her belt, Emily Carey has stepped in the shoes of many characters. She’s played the thrill-seeking Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, portrayed a young Alicent Hightower in the Got spinoff House of the Dragon, and most recently depicted the social pariah but incredibly clever teen, Harriet Manners in Netflix’s Geek Girl.

Caution is a concept most Targaryens have difficulty wrapping their silver-maned heads around, but it's been an essential component in making the televised account of their family history, House Of The Dragon, work as well as it has. Given the critical disaster that was the final (two? three? four?) seasons of Game Of Thrones, it came as no surprise that HBO approached its prequel series as carefully as it did during its favorably reviewed first season. But this caginess has been a two-way street; no one forgets getting burned by a dragon (show) twice. ...

One of the most underrated and appreciated aspects of any project is its sound design. In the fictional world of George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire, there exists a number of complex and morally ambiguous characters. But among them, one figure stands out for his cunning, ruthlessness, and sheer Machiavellian nature. It’s none other than Petyr Baelish, popularly known as Littlefinger.

However, the portrayal of Petyr Baelish in the HBO television adaptation Game of Thrones significantly diverged from George R.R. Martin’s original vision. This particular change led to a portrayal of the iconic character in a way that the author himself did not entirely anticipate nor endorse.

‘McVeigh’ Review: A Drama About the Oklahoma City Bomber Has Low-Key Sociopathic Atmosphere to Spare
“McVeigh,” a drama about Timothy McVeigh and the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, is a movie rooted in the forlorn underbelly of small-town American rage.
A car snakes its way along an empty road in the desolate dusk. Men nursing cheap beers sit around in roadside bars, strips clubs, or living rooms with ugly wood paneling. And Tim (Alfie Allen), an impassive loner whose scraggly beard is an outgrowth of his not bothering to shave, sits behind his table at a gun show, hawking $2 bumper stickers that say “When guns are outlawed, I will become an outlaw.” At home, he points a weapon at the TV set, like Travis Bickle, miming the execution of the U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno as she testifies at hearings about the FBI siege of the Branch Davidian compound at Waco. Usually, when books like Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, and The Hunger Games are adapted, fan wisdom and the conventional thought process usually lean towards declaring the books to be better than whatever we end up seeing on screen. However, there is the odd moment, where an author comes out to say that the show or the film was able to do something better than what they had done in the book.

Season 2 of House of the Dragon is just around the corner, and fans are surely excited to witness the continuation of the story that left everyone hanging at the end of the first installment. One big change that viewers will see in the upcoming series is the brand-new opening credits.
House of the Dragon / HBO Entertainment
The hit HBO show will be switching from the blood stream in a cogwheel theme to an embroidery of a Bayeux Tapestry-style history of the Targaryen family. In the vast and intricate world of fantasy literature, only a few names resonate as profoundly as George R. R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien. Martin’s successful work on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, which inspired the hit TV series Game of Thrones, has taken inspiration from numerous popular fantasy works, one of which also includes Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
