When Doug Liman's sci-fi actioner "Edge of Tomorrow" was released in 2014, it opened to a mere $28.7 million at the domestic box office. This was considered a minor scandal at the time, as the film was roundly praised by critics for its slick wartime combat sequences, clever time-loop premise, and charismatic leading performances from stars Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise. Many also saw "Edge of Tomorrow" as an antidote to the ascendant tide of Marvel movies that had, by then, completely infiltrated the cinema marketplace. Recall that 2014 was the year of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Captain America: The Winter Solider," two wildly popular films that, perhaps because of their popularity, invited early invitations of the phrase "Marvel fatigue."
"Edge of Tomorrow" was often touted as proof that great, original films — that is: not driven by marketable I.P. — were still being made. Its paltry opening was held up as...

Steven Spielberg is unarguably one of those legendary genius directors in the entertainment industry who quite literally changed the course of cinema through his masterpieces.
If anything, he has redefined the general approach to making films through his own brilliantly iconic ideas, especially with movies like his $212 million critically acclaimed horror comedy from 1984, Gremlins.

This is because these two respective movies led to the birth of the very viewer rating that has been used ever since in MCU projects!

Chris Pratt’s work in Parks and Recreation or Parks and Rec made him land major franchises like the MCU and Jurassic World. To make it funnier, the Marvel actor improvised his scenes throughout the show. Pratt’s improvisation also led him to deliver the best joke in the show in its third season.
The co-creator of the show, Michael Scur, described that as a writer, he was extremely angry to see the Marvel actor going off-script to present the memorable scene from the show.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn famously cast Chris Pratt as Star-Lord in the Marvel feature . But Gunn confided that Pratt’s size at the time presented a problem when he had to cast the rest of the movie.

Pratt managed to snag his Guardians of the Galaxy role after a lengthy audition process that saw him competing with several actors. But initially, Pratt doubted he’d get the part. Taylor Sheridan’s critically acclaimed Yellowstone is all set to approach its end this year with Season 5 Part 2. But the Dutton universe is far from its conclusion as Sheridan has expanded it with multiple spin-off shows. While two prequel shows 1883 and 1923 have already been successful, the Dutton Ranch is reportedly introducing Kurt Russell in a planned sequel spin-off.

The history of film is teeming with alternate endings that never saw the light of day, whether it's because of production troubles, executive meddling, or writers and directors simply changing their minds. In franchise-oriented blockbuster cinema, the practice of studying, testing, and even shooting different endings is especially prevalent, as those movies have to weather a host of artistic and commercial ambitions that the ending must facilitate simultaneously.
Superhero movies, with their precise storytelling geometry and enormous cultural presence, are particularly susceptible to having their endings reconsidered or reshot. There is an enormous pressure for superhero movie endings to work, to resolve the plot efficiently, to send viewers home buzzing for the right reasons. While that sometimes leads to great, refreshingly thoughtful storytelling decisions, it can also lead to conformity, blandness, and incongruence just as often -- especially when the ending has been changed out of sheer executive pressure.

The first Iron Man film led by Robert Downey Jr. in 2008 served as the launchpad for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that became a name synonymous with success. The idea of a flamboyant billionaire who built himself a suit of armor from metal scraps in a cave resonated with the audience, becoming a solid foundation for the superhero franchise that we know and adore.

James Gunn’s Dcu is moving quickly. The production of ‘Superman’ is already halfway done, and casting for other projects is about to start. Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about two Dcu projects: ‘Lanterns’ and ‘Booster Gold.’
Both shows have been in development for a long time. They were originally planned for different cinematic universes, but now under Gunn’s leadership, they are beginning to take shape.
Recently, Chris Pratt confirmed he will be appearing in both the MCU and the Dcu, which didn’t surprise anyone. The last ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie hinted that Star-Lord would return, and since Gunn likes to work with the same actors, it was expected that Pratt would find a role in the Dcu.
After his statement went viral, fans speculated that Pratt might be cast as either Booster Gold or Hal Jordan for the upcoming ‘Lanterns’ show.

Guardians of the Galaxy became one of Marvel’s many hit films when it first came out. But the movie also might’ve been one of the riskiest superhero projects the brand did at the time.

Gunn felt like he was perfect for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He was used to directing many out of the box projects, and even made his own unique superhero film in Super. He asserted that Guardians aligned with most of his sensibilities as a storyteller and a fan of the genre.
“Yeah, and I’m not saying this in an egocentric way, but there did come a point when I’m like, ‘Who else would’ve made this?’ I mean, it does fit my personality perfectly,” Gunn once told Superhero Hype.

THR reports that Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald have joined the cast of Superman as Cat Grant and Ron Troupe, respectively.
Cat Grant is a gossip columnist who was introduced as a potential love interest for Clark Kent. As for Ron Troupe, the character was created by Jerry Ordway and Tom Grummett and is regarded as one of the Daily Planet’s best reporters. Superman director James Gunn recently shared an Instagram photo with several actors from the Dcu reboot, leading to speculation that the two new faces in the pic had joined the cast.
Sure enough, THR is now reporting that Mikaela Hoover and Christopher MacDonald will appear in the movie as Clark Kent and Lois Lane's fellow Daily Planet newshounds.
Hoover will play Cat Grant, "a gossip columnist who had her eyes set on Kent," and MacDonald is playing Ron Troupe, "one of the best reporters in the newsroom."
Hoover has appeared in several previous Gunn-directed and produced movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad and The Belko Experiment. McDonald - not to be confused with the veteran Happy Gilmore actor - is a newcomer to the screen.

James Gunn is filling out the Daily Planet newsroom.
Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald have joined the cast of Gunn’s Superman, the inaugural movie of DC Studios.
The feature is currently in production in Atlanta with David Corenswet starring as Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane.
The duo will have company on the news desk. Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Saturday Night Live alum Beck Bennett had joined the production to play Steve Lombard, a blowhard and self-serving reporter who in the comics serves as a foil to boy scout reporter Kent.
Sources tell THR that Hoover is playing Cat Grant, who in the comics was a gossip columnist who had her eyes set on Kent. The character, created by Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway, has appeared in several TV shows, most notably in CW’s Supergirl in which she was played by Calista Flockhart.

It’s been quite some time since 2011’s Green Lantern ran the property into the ground and shut down any aspirations the IP had of being a cash cow for DC Comics and Warner Bros. Thanks to the Hulu on Disney+ experience, viewers can now find top heroes from the DC Universe and the MCU on one streamer.
Disney+ is an incredibly versatile streaming platform, one that offers much more than the kids content that most audiences immediately associate the company with. Its programming lineup got another big upgrade this year when the streamer officially launched the Hulu on Disney+ one-app experience for customers who subscribe to both services. Thanks to a licensing deal between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, that arrangement means that Disney+ and Hulu subscribers can now watch films from the two biggest comic book-based franchises in U.S. media — DC and Marvel — on one streaming app.
Key Details Disney+ has been home to movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years but has never offered DC movies until now. Viewers can stream “The Batman” and “Joker” on Disney+ if they also have a Hulu subscription.

There’s no doubt that Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming title, Avowed, is one of the most highly anticipated fantasy RPGs. The game is set in the same universe as Obsiain’s Pillars of Eternity series and takes players to the Living Lands, where they are tasked with unraveling a mysterious plague that has wreaked the realm.
Reports suggest that the Avowed will be featured in the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase. While Obsidian has already been generous with the content and features revealed for Avowed so far, there may be even more in store, with the gaming bringing one of the most popular features from Fallout and cranking it to the next level.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is being eyed to helm Avengers 5. Marvel Studios must be pleased with the Merc with the Mouth's upcoming threequel, but the report also featured another major revelation.
Apparently, the movie - previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty - will feature upwards of 60 Marvel characters!
As you might have guessed, that got us thinking about who we'll see in Avengers 5. While Marvel Studios has already introduced hundreds of heroes and villains, not all of them would fit into this movie.
So, no, this isn't just a list of 60 MCU characters, it's our breakdown of who we believe would fit into the story as well as which corner of this shared world they hail from. There are bound to be some surprises and glaring omissions which upset some fans, but we think this is a pretty definitive list of exciting possibilities.

Dave Bautista is one of the few iconic WWE stars who have transitioned into Hollywood quite perfectly. While Bautista started off in the industry via an uncredited cameo in Relative Strangers way back in 2006, it is his stints in multiple major franchises that have led to him becoming a part of the mainstream.

This includes franchises such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner, and most recently, Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune. Dying at the hands of fellow MCU star Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck. However, while his Dune journey might have come to an end, the movie in itself included another scene in which Bautista claims exposed the kind of layers his character had.
During a recent interview, the 55-year-old went into detail over the kind of mindset that he was in, when he first read the scene.

Guardians of the Galaxy was loaded with Easter eggs and cameos that spanned decades of Marvel Comics lore. However, some characters got lost in the mix when their roles were much more significant.
One such case is that of Michael Rosenbaum, who played Martinex, one of the earliest Guardians members in the comics. But why was his spot in the trilogy cut back?
Rosenbaum, best known for his role as a young Lex Luthor in Smallville, says that the editors cut out his larger role in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. This isn’t uncommon, however.
The editing teams sometimes need to remove entire characters, reducing them to background decor rather than active members of the plot to tighten up a movie or improve the flow of scenes.
Thanks to Comicbook.com and The Hollywood Reporter, we have Rosenbaum’s first-hand account of what could have been in the previous two Guardians films.

Avengers, re-assemble!
Variety has reported that Shawn Levy, reliable director of “Night at the Museum,” “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” is “in the mix” to helm the next “Avengers” superhero team-up for Marvel. In late July, his promised-to-be-potty-mouthed R-rated “Deadpool & Wolverine” will hit theaters and, clearly, Marvel’s leader, Kevin Feige, liked what he saw.
Marvel is in desperate need of a course correction after some wobbly entries like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “The Marvels,” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.” There was once a time when the Marvel opening logo was enough to print money and create cultural resonance, but those days have begun to wane, due in part to a glut of Disney+ streaming shows and the fact that “Avengers: Endgame” really did seem like a nice place to end the story. The word “end...

Michael Rosenbaum was supposed to have more screen time in the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' franchise. The 51-year-old actor portrayed Martinex in two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) flicks and explained that his involvement was meant to be much more significant than the supporting part it turned out to be.Speaking at Nashville Comicon recently, Michael said: "The role was supposed to be a lot bigger. They cut a lot out."You were supposed to see... it was written in the script to see Martinex's powers, which were really cool. But they had so much to talk about in the script that they ended up cutting it out at the end. And there was some other stuff."The 'Smallville' actor explained that he does not have any bad feelings towards director James Gunn and was grateful to have the chance to work with his friend on the movie.

The MCU has brought over 50 villains from the comics to the big screen. Some were letdowns like Dar-Benn, while others, like last year’s High Evolutionary, were fantastic.
But today, we’re not looking at their character development or clever plans. We’re focusing on their sheer power because not all villains are equally strong. Over 7,000 fans on Ranker voted to rank the MCU’s most powerful bad guys. Let’s see who made the list.
10. Ronan the Accuser
Sure, Ronan was taken down by a dance-off, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was once one of the most powerful Kree. His strength mainly came from the Universal Weapon and later the Power Stone. So, he might not make my top 10 list, but the fans have spoken!
9. Ebony Maw

MCU adapted over 50 villains from the pages of comics at this point. Some have been disappointments like Dar-Benn, and some were brilliantly executed like the last year’s High Evolutionary.
In today’s post, however, we won’t talk about the character development of villains or how brilliant their plans were. We’re going to discuss their raw might, as not all villains are created equal. Fans gathered on Ranker, more than 7,000 of them, to rank MCU’s evil powerhouses. Let’s see who made the cut.

Yes, yes, Ronan was defeated through a dance-off but this doesn’t negate the fact that Ronan was at one point one of the most powerful Kree. Most of his power came from Universal Weapon, and later, from Power Stone, so technically, he wouldn’t make the top 10 cut as far as I’m concerned. Still, fans have spoken!

Michael Rosenbaum Reveals Martinex Originally Had a Bigger Role in the Guardians of the Galaxy Movies - Main Image
Michael Rosenbaum recently revealed that his character Martinex originally had a bigger role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
The Smallville actor made his MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where he played Martinex, the first officer of the Stakar Ravager Clan that has a body composed of silicon-isotope crystals.
While the character had a fun presence in the two films he appeared in, Martinex ultimately didn't have a large storyline as he mostly appeared as the right-hand man of Sylvester Stallone's Stakar Ogord.

In a recent convention appearance, Rosenbaum revealed that Martinex originally had a bigger presence in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and 3, but his screen time was edited down.

Way back in 2019, Avengers: Endgame handed over the mantle of Captain America to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Two years later, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier made the point canon and established the hero firmly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which canonically was flaring up in tensions owing to the sudden re-emergence of the population that vanished and returned leading to mass displacement and worldwide chaos.

Among DC fans, Michael Rosenbaum is notable for his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Smallville, which James Gunn previously deemed his favorite iteration of the character onscreen. Apart from Luthor, Rosenbaum has also voiced several other DC characters, including Deadman, Kid Flash, and Barry Allen, across shows like Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Teen Titans, etc.
However, his stint in the realm of superheroes isn’t just limited to DC, as thanks to his good pal Gunn, the actor landed the role of Martinex in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. But per the actor, his role in the films was initially supposed to be a lot bigger than it ended up being.

While his work on his reboot version of DC’s cinematic universe as its co-ceo is yet to be seen, James Gunn has displayed his charming directing flair in quite a few other projects that were nothing short of lovable.
Besides the fan-favorite The Suicide Squad from the DC Universe being one of them, he is also credited with helming the MCU masterpiece, Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

That being said, while the trilogy was pretty much perfect, some fans might still hold a grudge against Gunn for a decision he took for Michael Rosenbaum, i.e. the actor who played Lex Luthor in the television series.
This was because the filmmaker decided to sideline Rosenbaum’s character in the trilogy for the MCU, i.e., Martinex, in a rather humiliating way.

Marvel Studios Plans for new Guardians Of The Galaxy Film Post Secret Wars - Main Image
James Gunn may have left Marvel Studios, and his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy may have ended, but there are rumours that the fan-favourite group of intergalactic criminals will return to the big screen. Marvel Studios plans a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie after Avengers: Secret Wars.
The 2023 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the trilogy's final film, but the journey seems far from over.
Sure, the third film’s conclusion feels like the story's completion, but it features two significant teases that hint at the franchise's continuation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The first hint comes when a new Guardians team seemingly assembling, with Rocket, Groot, and Kraglin teaming up with Phyla, Adam Warlock, Blurp, and Cosmo.
Though nothing is confirmed yet, these seven can be the new lineup.

Smallville remains one of the most beloved comic book TV shows ever made and, for many DC fans, Tom Welling is their Man of Steel and Michael Rosenbaum is the Lex Luthor.
The series had a lengthy run, kicking off in 2001 before wrapping up in 2011 following a memorable 10 seasons (which somehow didn't see Clark Kent take flight and suit until the final episode). Still, fans were left eager for more and eventually got a comic book sequel detailing the hero's time as Superman.
Welling and Rosenbaum have spent years teasing plans for an animated revival and, in an interview with ComicBook.com. the latter confirmed it remains in the very early stages of development.
"Tom and I are working on a Smallville animated series that we're trying to get made. It's gonna take time," the actor explained. "But the creators of Smallville are attached, they want to be a part of it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced the "original" Guardians, with a team comprised of Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord, Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord, Miley Cyrus as Mainfraime, and Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex.
When the sequel was released in 2017, the expectation was that filmmaker James Gunn would oversee a slate of cosmic projects for Marvel Studios, creating a Marvel Cosmic Universe.
While it's never been clear how far along those plans got, they were halted when Disney parted ways with Gunn after past comments on social media caught up with him. He eventually returned to helm Vol. 3, but quickly parted ways with the franchise to take charge of DC Studios and the Dcu.

There has been a significant drop in the VFX works of major films, including the MCU. Fans have often trolled these movies or scenes with bad CGI, and some wonder why such a drop happened. A fan on X shared an image of Pirates of the Caribbean‘s CGI work side-by-side with some of the latest sloppy work in the MCU. One VFX artist came out with an explanation that makes it clear skills/technology aren’t the issue here.

Within the ever-growing universe of our living room screens, in a galaxy not too far away, a question as old as the celebrated Star Wars seems to be taking place: Are the industry titans of narrative—Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars—dipping into the ‘Sarlacc’ hole of overexposure to content on Disney+?
Well, it’s a question on the minds of many fans who have witnessed these once groundbreaking franchises seemingly dilute their magic with a relentless release schedule & storylines that have crumbled under the weight of corporate strategy.
Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens | Lucasfilm Ltd.
Yes, despite the aura of nostalgia and charm that these brands exude, Disney+’s strategy of a 45-day theatrical release window seems to whisper a siren’s song to theatergoers, urging them to stay home and wait for streaming—a trend contributing to the silent waning of the theater tradition.

As the latest round of reshoots on Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World (formerly known as New World Order) continue, this latest photo from the set is sure to raise a few questions!
Shared by Atlanta Filming, the image features strange creatures hanging by their tails. Though there's been some speculation that these might be the Soul Eaters from Chang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, they look a lot more like Orloni to us.
These small, rodent-like animals were introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, and seem to be a very popular snack in certain cosmic corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We have no clue why these little critters would be a part of this particular movie, so there's always a chance they simply resemble Orloni. Another theory is that these are some sort of Gamma-mutants created by Doctor Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader.

He proved that he has potential with his role as Sapper Morton in "Blade Runner 2049," and then followed through on that promising turn with his performance as Leonard in 2023's "Knock at the Cabin." But despite charting a diverse filmography and being recognized as the best wrestler-turned-actor by his "Glass Onion" director Rian Johnson, it's always seemed like Bautista has wanted more.
Though he claims to have proven himself with "Knock at the Cabin," that doesn't mean he's done demonstrating his talents. This year, we've seen him finally given more to do in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" duology...
