The news was first reported by Venice’s La Nuova.
Guevara had been scheduled to attend a press conference and award ceremony at the festival Sunday morning, where he was to accept an award from Filming Italy for Best Young Actor.

A new relationship has entered the mix on “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
In the sixth episode of Season 2, Skye (Elsie Fisher) and Cam Cameron (David Iacono) acted on their feelings for each other, sealing them with a sweet kiss. Iacono acknowledged the contrast between this budding relationship and the intense love triangle Belly (Lola Tung) finds herself in with the Fisher brothers.
“I think [Skye and Cam’s relationship] is refreshing at points, [given] everything that’s going on with Conrad and Jeremiah and Belly … and even Steven and Taylor,” Iacono told TheWrap in an interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. “I think it’ll be nice for people to have a bit of a breather when it comes to Cam and Skye. Their relationship is very new.”
Fisher, who goes by they/them pronouns, weighed in, describing Skye and Cam as “low stakes” yet “they mean something to each other.”

The program featured over 60 on-stage speakers and was dominated by the presence of Netflix, which celebrated its 10th year in the Nordic region late last year.
“We had a great year,” Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, VP of Nordic Content at Netflix, said when asked about the streamer’s 2022 Nordic efforts on stage at the Grand Theater in Göteborg.
Björk went on to list what she described as some of the streamer’s most successful Nordic content, including the Swedish series Snabba Cash. In order to make it as a showrunner, you should be able to bear loneliness for longer periods of time, said “Skam’s” Julie Andem at Göteborg’s TV Drama Vision.
“To this day, I don’t really know what a showrunner is. Or does. But the most important thing is to have the strongest vision of the show and make sure everyone is working towards it. Make sure your collaborators have fun with it, that they get something out of it, personally,” she added.
“You have to believe in your story. It was so clear to me what ‘Skam’ was supposed to be and how it needed to be done. I knew when to say ‘no,’ right away, which makes this job easier.”
Andem opened up about her experiences, from humble beginnings in advertising – “When clients disagreed with my idea, I thought they were idiots. You can’t work like that,...

“Traditional French broadcasters served a somewhat older set of viewers,” says Series Mania artistic director Frederic Lavigne. “And they oriented their programming toward that public. The characters were more or less the age of the audience.”

The conditions are set for an increase in scripted adaptations, argued Tim Westcott of research organization Omdia at Series Mania.
According to the research opening the “With Local Content Going Global, What’s the Future of Scripted Formats?” session on Wednesday, the U.S. has been the biggest and “most enthusiastic” buyer of scripted remakes between 2010 and 2022, with South Korea, Turkey and France also following suit. Drama remakes hit a record high in 2021.
In terms of origination, the U.K. leads with 23 examples and Israel with 17. The most successful format is comedy drama “Shameless,” originally shown on Channel 4 in the U.K., and remade by Showtime in the U.S., with Norway’s “Skam” coming in second.
Successful remakes can be “a few degrees removed” from the original, noted Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia, senior scripted acquisitions and co-production manager at Red Arrow Studios Intl., mentioning Germany’s “The Last Cop...

Portuguese producers are looking to strike gold with a hit series that could follow in the footsteps of European shows such as “Money Heist,” “Hierro,” “The Bridge,” “Trapped” or “Skam.”
They have several advantages: Portugal has competitive production costs which can compensate for more limited budgets; they’re fast learners, as shown by the rapid development of a successful domestic telenovelas industry in the early 2000s; and they are good at international networking, as confirmed by the solid network of foreign co-productions in place for film and TV productions.
Still, challenges remain, including difficulties in raising financing, as well as the need for greater investment in script development.
ONSeries Lisboa has highlighted three genre categories where there has been strong series production in Portugal: Historical fiction, romance and crime drama.
Of these, crime drama has been the strongest area for co-production. Rtp’s Jose Fragoso explains that this is because...

Filming the France Télévisions show “Germinal” – which plays in the TV Series Competition of this week’s EnergaCamerimage Film Festival – felt a lot like leading a band of rebels in an uprising against the old guard, says cinematographer Xavier Dolléans.
“It was a challenge,” he says of the six-part adaptation of the classic Émile Zola novel. The in-depth, nuanced portrait of the lives of French coal miners and their courage in standing together to demand reforms needed epic scale to work, Dolléans says.
The only trouble was that France Télévisions until now hasn’t really been known for such ambitious projects – in fact, to shoot a sequence depicting miners trapped in a flooded chamber, the crew had to head to Belgium to find a water tank in which a set can be easily submerged.

Mild spoilers for “Shame,” the 12th episode of “Good Trouble” season 3.
Following her directorial debut on “UnREAL,” a series that she also starred in, Constance Zimmer honed her directing skills by shadowing a director on Freeform’s “Good Trouble” — long before she knew she would act, let alone direct, on the show.
“I had no idea when I was shadowing as a director that I would end up as an actor on the show,” Zimmer told TheWrap.
But once that happened, she says one of the big things she did her first time directing on “Good Trouble” was to coach actors to harness the “energy” of flashbacks during pivotal or painful moments on the show.
As a longtime fan of the show, a Freeform spinoff of “The Fosters,” Zimmer has hailed the series for humanizing social issues and educating viewers. Zimmer joined the show’s third season as Kathleen Gale,...

Photo: ‘Scenes from a Marriage’/Sveriges Radio Please note that this is a review of the mini-series, not the theatrical version. With the announcement of its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and last week’s trailer drop, anticipation for Mia Hansen-Løve’s newest film ‘Bergman Island’ has grown immensely. The former actress’s third film to compete at the festival tells the story of a filmmaking couple who make a pilgrimage to the Swedish island of Fårö, affectionately known as Bergman Island, where the master of Cinema Ingmar Bergman lived and worked. Among his films shot there: ‘Through a Glass Darkly’, ‘Persona’, ‘Hour of the Wolf’, ‘Shame’, ‘The Passion of Anna’ and of course, ‘Scenes from a Marriage.’ Such sacred ground for cinephiles, nevertheless the vibes from such films are not particularly rainbows and sunshine. In the trailer, Vicky Krieps’ character remarks “you do realize we’re going to...

The business of remaking drama series internationally continues to grow. While mega-budget new shows dominate the headlines, the likes of “In Treatment” are among the most-traveled scripted formats, and “Skam” and “Doctor Foster” are among the newer shows vying for top spot.
U.K.-based research house K7 Media has run the numbers and found that therapy drama “In Treatment,” is the best-selling international scripted remake of the past decade. The Dori Media-distributed show bowed in Israel in 2006. It went on to be remade by HBO in the U.S. with Gabriel Byrne, and by HBO Europe in several countries.
K7 has detailed the top unscripted formats for some time and its analysis is well-used by distribution execs selling formats, and buyers keen to discern trends.
“The scripted format business has grown,” K7 CEO Keri Lewis told Variety. “It’s the same as with unscripted, these are tried and tested formats.

European Soccer Faces ‘Post Boom’ – Report
Pele popularized the phrase “the beautiful game.” He never said that soccer was profitable. For broadcasters, it is often a loss leader, a must have for dominant pay-tv services, or networks looking to retain market share. Over this decade, as the prices TV operators were prepared to pay for soccer rose, soccer clubs never had it so good. Between the 2012/13 and 2017/18 seasons, revenues for the top five European leagues rose 7.7% in compound annual growth rate according to an Enders Analysis report published Friday, driven by broadcasting (up 9.9%), sponsorship (up 8.5%), match day (a 3.3% rise). But that may be as good as it gets.
