The current state of Star Wars television is divisive, to say the least. While shows like The Mandalorian and Andor made fans want to revisit a galaxy far, far away, other shows like The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi made them remember why there hasn’t been a Star Wars movie in a while.
The latest series from Lucasfilm, The Acolyte, recently debuted with the first two episodes releasing on Disney+. However, audiences tore the show apart, and it currently has a 29% audience score, far lower than that of The Last Jedi, which has 41%.
The series has been seen as suspect ever since it was announced, from the way it was announced to the choice of showrunner to the decision to have it set during the unpopular High Republic era to some of the actors making derogatory statements without consequence. Introduced in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano has grown to become an integral character in the franchise. And Dave Filoni, who is currently working on a second season of the Disney+ series Ahsoka, has recently revealed a key aspect the Star Wars creator George Lucas suggested about the character.

In a recent conversation with The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland, Filoni revealed that Lucas had advised him to focus on Ahsoka’s inherent capability and avoid depicting her as overwhelmed during her arc in The Clone Wars.
George Lucas’ Suggestion For Ahsoka Tano’s The Clone Wars Arc
Played by Rosario Dawson in the franchise, Ahsoka Tano has emerged as one of the most formidable Jedi, confronting adversaries like Darth Maul and Darth Vader. This depiction also underscores her training under Anakin Skywalker and her innate strength in the Force.

Many of us were worried about how Disney’s new Star Wars show, The Acolyte, would turn out. It was a controversial project even before it premiered, as people weren’t sure how it would be received. The creators announced it as the “gayest Star Wars” project to date, which angered many fans who felt Disney was prioritizing an agenda over the story.
Now that the series has premiered, it seems The Acolyte is becoming one of the better Star Wars shows. In our earlier report, we said The Acolyte wasn’t perfect but had a lot of potential, which was the general opinion at the time. Initially, it received a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 88%, but it has now improved to 91%. This suggests that the 31% audience rating might be due to review bombing, as we suspected.

Many of us were worried about how Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte, would turn out in the end. The series had become a controversial project even before the premiere, as no one was sure how it would look. With the people behind the project announcing what has been, in the meantime, dubbed the “gayest Star Wars” project to date, many fans were angry and outraged about Disney once again putting the agenda in front of the story. But, the series has finally premiered now, and it seems that The Acolyte is on its way to becoming one of the better Star Wars series.
In our earlier report, we stated that The Acolyte is far from being perfect but that it is a good show with a lot of potential, which was the critical consensus at the time. Initially, the series received a ‘Certified Fresh’ title at 88%, but...

After eight months since Ahsoka wrapped up, Hayden Christensen and Rosario Dawson have reflected on their characters’ reunion and on-set experiences. Fans were elated with the much-anticipated encounter between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, reported by Entertainment Weekly. The first two episodes of The Acolyte hit Disney+ earlier this week and, despite obvious signs of review bombing on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb, the series has been a hit in terms of viewership (it scored the streamer's biggest 2024 launch) and with critics.
With 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's up there with Andor as the most critically acclaimed Star Wars TV series yet. That's an impressive achievement and has seen this lead-in to George Lucas' prequel trilogy top the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian.
Showrunner Leslye Headland has previously expressed interest in returning for a second season of The Acolyte but now has another adaptation in mind: Knights of the Old Republic.
The video game was released in 2003 and takes place approximately 4,000 years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, during the era of the Old Republic. It was then that the Sith, at the height of their power,...

Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes remains a key part of whether moviegoers decide to check out the latest releases in theaters. However, we've also seen those all-important percentage scores become every bit as important for TV shows, especially when there are so many options out there thanks to an endless list of streaming platforms.
In the case of the Star Wars franchise, recent years have seen Lucasfilm shift focus to prioritising exploring that Galaxy out on the small screen rather than the big one.
They've found great success on Disney+ in the wake of what proved to be a disappointing end to the Skywalker Saga, and there has yet to be a single "Rotten" outing. From The Mandalorian's debut season to the surprisingly divisive The Acolyte, each of these...

In recent years, the number of series set in a galaxy far, far away has increased dramatically. The variety of genres, forms and topics is amazing: every viewer, not only fans of the series, can find something to their taste.
On the occasion of the release of The Acolyte, which has already received negative reviews from fans, we have chosen ten of the best projects that you can watch instead of the new series.
1. Star Wars: Visions, 2021-2023
The first non-canon series released after Disney bought Lucasfilm, Visions is The Animatrix of the Star Wars universe, an anthology of 18 shorts divided into two seasons. Each episode is done in a unique style and tells its own little story.
The producers gave the writers maximum creative freedom. As a result, Visions offers a completely different take on traditional Star Wars, and it looks great. The authors clearly prove that canonicity does...

The Streaming Wars
Streaming is the future… or at least that’s what we were told. Yet, it’s becoming clear that streaming may actually be in our past.
Streaming services reached the height of their popularity in the cable-cutting movement when people were ending their cable subscriptions in favor of cheaper, more convenient streaming services that allowed them to watch ad-free on their own schedule.
However, streaming services are now on their way out. Studies show that subscribers are beginning to cancel their subscriptions at rates more significant than we have ever seen. Streaming services are on red alert, trying to find ways to boost their subscriber count — and, in turn, revenue — to stay alive.

Francis Ford Coppola has addressed the allegations that he made advances with actresses on the set of “Megalopolis.”
In a report last month by The Guardian, multiple anonymous crew members said Coppola behaved inappropriately amid production. Now, during an hour-long interview Coppola gave to Manohla Dargis of the The New York Times during the Cannes Film Festival, the filmmaker denied the allegations in a roundabout way. In part, Coppola pointed to how he was raised and the morals he learned from his mother, Italia Coppola.
“My mother told me that if you make an advance toward a woman, it means you disrespect her, and the girls I had crushes on, I certainly didn’t disrespect them,” Coppola said.
As the New York Times wrote, “Pressed further, he added that there was a photo of one of the ‘girls’ he kissed on the cheek that had been taken by her father.

Thanks to the Hulu on Disney+ experience, viewers can now find top heroes from the DC Universe and the MCU on one streamer.
Disney+ is an incredibly versatile streaming platform, one that offers much more than the kids content that most audiences immediately associate the company with. Its programming lineup got another big upgrade this year when the streamer officially launched the Hulu on Disney+ one-app experience for customers who subscribe to both services. Thanks to a licensing deal between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, that arrangement means that Disney+ and Hulu subscribers can now watch films from the two biggest comic book-based franchises in U.S. media — DC and Marvel — on one streaming app.
Key Details Disney+ has been home to movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years but has never offered DC movies until now. Viewers can stream “The Batman” and “Joker” on Disney+ if they also have a Hulu subscription.

The Star Wars universe is rich with complex and compelling characters, especially its villains. These antagonists drive the narrative forward, offering challenges and intrigue that captivate fans across generations. With the debut of “murder-mystery” show The Acolyte this week on Disney+ we thought we’d take a look at the ten best villains in the Star Wars saga:
1. Darth Vader
Darth Vader, originally Anakin Skywalker, is perhaps the most iconic villain in cinematic history. His fall from a heroic Jedi Knight to a Sith Lord embodies the tragic nature of the Star Wars saga. Vader’s imposing presence, deep voice, and complex redemption arc make him a standout character.
2. Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)
Emperor Palpatine is the mastermind behind the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire. His cunning manipulation of both the political and Sith arenas showcases his unparalleled strategic mind. His return in...

The Office alum John Krasinski had long been a fan-favourite choice to play Mister Fantastic and finally got the chance to do so as a member of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Illuminati.
Added during reshoots, Reed Richards' role in the sequel was far too brief and his death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch...well, the less said about that, the better. Even so, many fans appreciated seeing Krasinski suit up and it was a nice surprise for the stretchy superhero to make his MCU debut on Earth-838.
We've seen concept art with several different suit designs, but a viral clip from a VFX reel reveals just how close Mister Fantastic came to donning a primarily black suit instead of the blue one we saw on screen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently confronting a problem that was once a feature of the franchise's success. All of the movies (and TV shows) from Marvel Studios share the same universe, allowing characters to cross from one superhero franchise into another. This is what made the evolution and rise of The Infinity Saga so exciting, as Marvel paid off an ongoing story arc with the culmination of an amazing two-part finale in the form of "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame." Unfortunately, since then, audiences and even dedicated fans have become burdened by the interconnectivity of the MCU, much like the comics that inspired it -- and it seems "Star Wars" has been having the same issue in recent years, albeit in a different way.
Beginning with "Star Wars" in 1977, the "Star Wars" franchise was primarily defined by what is known as the Skywalker saga, focusing on the stories...

This Star Wars: The Acolyte review contains spoilers.
One of The Acolyte’s most enticing selling points is that it’s the first live-action Star Wars show that exists outside of the Skywalker Saga, set 100 years before The Phantom Menace. This might lead one to believe that the show would be a refreshing change of pace or tone for the franchise, but unfortunately, it actually looks, sounds, and feels a lot like the other Star Wars shows, at least in its first two episodes.
This isn’t an inherently bad thing, of course, as most of the other Star Wars live-action shows have been quite good. The Acolyte has a lot going for it, with a great premise, an intriguing central mystery that reveals itself in captivating fashion, and some rock-solid performances. But it feels like there was a missed opportunity here to lean into the aspects of the story...

The best Star Wars projects in recent years are the ones that stray from the original story.
From “Rogue One” to “The Last Jedi” to the animated “Visions” and last year’s “Andor,” the franchise finds its footing by taking risks and focusing on original stories that just happen to be set in a galaxy far, far away. With the middling quality of so many other Star Wars offshoots since Disney+ launched in 2019, Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte” finds company, mercifully, in the former category, with an intriguing crime thriller set further back than any other live-action entry.

If you have neither the time nor the inclination to devote countless hours to those, you may be concerned about how well you’ll grasp The Acolyte. Thankfully, the latest Star Wars TV series is arguably the most new viewer-friendly effort from the studio since The Mandalorian’s debut season. The result is a gripping new addition to the franchise which, based on the four episodes we’ve seen, will keep you hooked from start to finish.
Familiar yet different, The High Republic Era takes place at a time when the Jedi Order was at the height of its power with few significant threats to worry about. That changes with the appearance of an "acolyte" who has been tasked with killing four members of the Order at the behest...

Being a Star Wars fan is very interesting. I grew up through the era of the prequel trilogy and thought it was the most boring thing ever. Then I watched the original trilogy, and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. And even though I wasn’t nostalgic about the originals or the prequels, I enjoyed the legacy sequel trilogy for the most part. The franchise had a solid fanbase on the small screen with its animated projects, which didn’t really interest me. That said, the first season of The Mandalorian did do the trick. After the mercurial success of that show, Star Wars totally shifted to the small screen, and they started churning out stuff that ranged from mediocre to abysmally bad. Andor was like a diamond in the rough. And although it seemed like nothing in the franchise could be as good as that, especially in terms of its storytelling,...

Here at FandomWire, we review the new Disney+ Star Wars saga The Acolyte. This article does not contain significant spoilers.
While many have openly complained that Disney has ruined Star Wars and Marvel franchises with event-streaming series, I’m not one of them as of late. In fact, with the magnetic and compelling Ahsoka that came out last year, they are on a roll with The Acolyte, a stunning and captivating new chapter in the Star Wars saga.
By the time the fourth episode brings the rising action that wrenches up the tension and suspense to new levels, you have numerous badass lightsaber battles, galactic battlefields, a jaw-dropping introduction to one of the series’ best new villains, and, of course, who doesn’t love a Jedi Wookiee who wields the Force like the back of their scruffy hands?
Not to mention the birth of female action heroines for which Disney does not get enough credit.

A girl walks into a bar — stop us if you’ve heard this one. Picking her way through tables crowded with a menagerie of alien patrons, she squares up to a figure in Jedi robes. The resulting fracas is something you definitely won’t be familiar with — at least not from Star Wars. A whirlwind of wuxia-inspired fists and feet, the series prologue has the flavour of Hong Kong action cinema, but with a distinctly Star Wars twist — punches and parries augmented with Jedi abilities that block and throw with unseen power. It’s an arresting display of precision-choreographed Force-fu that unfolds (almost) without either party reaching for a lightsaber. As openers go, this seizes you by the throat like a Force choke — a clear statement of intent from showrunner Leslye Headland.

Since Disney revived “Star Wars” in 2015 with J.J. Abrams’ “The Force Awakens,” the strongest entries in the franchise have had one trait in common. Rian Johnson’s “The Last Jedi” and Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” both opted to take the franchise in bold new directions, opening up exciting new possibilities for what a “Star Wars” story could be. “The Last Jedi” steered the core narrative away from the Skywalker family, implying that anyone could become a Jedi and, therefore, a hero. “Andor” used familiar settings as the backdrop for an adult political drama about rebellion and imperial administration, rejecting heroes entirely in favor of the individuals who make up mass movements. Fans may not always have seen them as such — “The Last Jedi” faced an infamous fan backlash, while “Andor” Season 1 paled in viewership to the likes of “The Mandalorian” — but these projects offered a lifeline to a saga...

Sometimes, the "Star Wars" universe can seem very small. The vast majority of television we've seen on Disney+ that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is intrinsically tied to the Skywalker Saga in one way or another. Even "Andor" ties directly into the Rebellion and the work of Princess Leia and the people of Alderaan, and it might be the one that feels most removed. The universe of "The Mandalorian" felt separate for a while, but Luke Skywalker's appearance in season two brought it right back into the world of the classic trilogy.
For most "Star Wars" fans — myself included — this small universe phenomenon where everything is connected is a feature, not a bug. That doesn't mean it's not still refreshing to see things completely divorced from the Skywalker Saga and gives us a new window into "Star Wars," and that's exactly what Leslye Headland's murder mystery series,...

Review: The reception for Disney-era Star Wars has been uneven, to say the least. While The Force Awakens broke box office records, The Last Jedi became the most divisive sequel of all time, and The Rise of Skywalker pooped the bed for most fans. Still, the anthology films Rogue One and Solo have dedicated fans, which is more than can be said for any of the Disney+ Star Wars series outside of The Mandalorian and Andor. Ever since The Mandalorian and The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito confirmed that he'd been cast in a mystery MCU role, speculation has run wild about who he might be playing.
The actor confirmed he'd debut in a movie before showing up in a Disney+ TV series and set photos have since revealed his big screen project as Captain America: Brave New World. Esposito was enlisted for reshoots and a first look at his unnamed character showed him in tactical gear wielding several knives and what appears to be an axe.
Typically, a set photo like that would make it clear who an actor is playing; as things stand, we're no closer to knowing for sure who the Breaking Bad alum has been cast as. Or are we?
A new rumour is floating around online (we think it's more of a theory than anything) which suggests Esposito is playing Moon Knight villain Bushman.

Who is Giancarlo Esposito? Okay, we know who Giancarlo Esposito is. He’s best known as Gus Fring from Breaking Bad and Moff Gideon from The Mandalorian. Meanwhile to some of us old people, he will forever be Buggin’ Out from Do the Right Thing.
But who is he in the MCU? Esposito has long been rumored to join the gargantuan franchise, something made more real when the actor shared to social media some of his recent talks with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. However, we now have more information… sort of.
As part of the reshoots done for Captain America: Brave New World, the first with Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson as the Sentinel of Liberty, Esposito has been added to the cast. Initial reports identified him as a new mystery villain who would act as an “agent of chaos.

Weeks after Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito teased that he’d be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe “sooner than you think,” Variety can confirm that he will appear in “Captain America: Brave New World,” which hits theaters next year.
Esposito revealed he’d been cast in a Marvel project during a panel at Ccxp in Brazil earlier this month. There he squashed fan speculation that he’d play Professor X in the widely expected Marvel Cinematic Universe version of “X-Men.”
“There’s something about being original. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X,” Esposito told the crowd. “Wouldn’t you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”

Like many 2024 movies, Captain America: Brave New World was caught up in last year's WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. Much has been made of plans for reshoots and thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we finally have an idea of what's really happening.
Despite claims that huge chunks of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier follow-up are being reshot over several months, the trade confirms this additional photography will last only 22 days.
The plan is to add new action sequences and Julius Onah will remain in the director's chair.
When the strikes ended last November, Captain America: Brave New World moved from July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025. That reportedly gave Marvel Studios executives additional time to figure out what they wanted from reshoots and to address feedback from test screenings.
As we've previously reported, Moon Knight scribe Matthew Orton was enlisted to write new pages in December and worked on those over the winter.

For anyone worried about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this latest news probably isn't going to do much to quell your fears.

A few matches into a preview demo of Star Wars Hunters, the new multiplayer hero shooter from developer Zynga, the mobile touch-screen controls really start to click. Let’s be clear up front: I almost exclusively play on consoles with a controller, so it takes me a pummeling or two (or three) in the 4v4 shooter to get the hang of the movement, aiming, and special abilities on an iPhone screen. But it’s easy to get hooked by the world of Hunters even before you get good, especially if you’re already Star Wars fan. From the few hours I played the game with developers and fellow members of the press, it’s clear that the team at Zynga have made something that really feels like it belongs in Star Wars.

Recently Giancarlo Esposito made headlines when he claimed that he would like to appear as Professor X in the MCU, but without the wheelchair, as he isn’t that old. Fans were divided on the matter since some still harbor hope that Patrick Stewart will be the MCU’s primary Charles Xavier despite him being killed during the events of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
Then during a panel on Thunder Stage at Ccxp Esposito confirmed that he will be appearing in the Marvel project, but also made it clear it’s not as Professor X.
A few days ago during the Phoenix Fusion Event, Esposito revealed that his MCU role will eventually get a Disney+ series:

Star Wars will be getting a new show next month called The Acolyte. The mystery thriller show is reportedly set before the events of the Star Wars films (even the prequels) and follows the murder of multiple Jedi Knights. Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland acts as the creator and showrunner of the Disney+ series.
While the show has been in the making for the past four years, it has reportedly cost Disney a lot of money. According to a new report, the eight-episode series cost the studio $180 million, which is a lot considering the show features none of the characters previously seen in the franchise. Even the Ewan McGregor starring Obi-Wan Kenobi had a budget of $90 million.
