The third Star Trek series to be animated after Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973) and Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020). However, this is the first Star Trek series to be 3D computer animated. The other two were traditional hand-drawn animation and 2D computer animation respectively.
Rok-Tahk belongs to Brikar race, a rock-based lifeform. It is a hint for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989): in the movie it was planned a fight scene between Kirk, Spock and Sybok against a rock monster after their arrival to Sha Ka Ri, but finally it was scrapped. It was used in the later Galaxy Quest (1999), a Star Trek parody.
At a point of Let Sleeping Borg Lie (2022), Jankom Pog mentions "transparent aluminum". This a reference for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), where Bones and Scotty, while they were in the 20th century, gave the formula of the chemical structure of transparent aluminum to a manufacturing company to create the tank they needed to transport whales to 23rd century.
After being canceled by Paramount+ with the second season still in mid-production, the series was picked up by Netflix to continue its run into the second season.
