Age of the Living Dead (2018)
Needs a bigger budget
Fun vampyre hokum that would shine alongside shows like Z-Nation and Blood Drive of the SY-FY channel if the budget was a little bigger.
Loved season 1 ~ looking forward to season 2
Invasion Planet Earth (2019)
Admiration
Pleasantly surprised by this labor of love and if watched with the crews history in mind ~ plenty of media coverage about the journey taken ~ then you 'll understand that to compare alongside big Hollywood blockbusters is fool hardy and misleading when reviewing it.
This is not a masterpiece by any sense of the word, there are flaws and a weak 3rd act nevertheless it is valiant effort and just a stepping stone to the next, less hampered film from this director.
24 Little Hours (2020)
A visually stunning and gritty film
24 Hours in London is a decent treat for the weekend. Fast paced, slick, tonal and above all else well put together.
The cinematography is utterly beautiful and the story compelling and engaging. From the gritty reality of a life of crime, to moments of real human connection between villains. Where you can feel sorry for a copper and cringe at the betrayal of a friend
A Landscape of Lies - Directors Cut (2011)
Wow - Didn't see that coming!!!
Why this didn't get a wide release amazes me. Just the fact that all round good girl Andrea McLean has a leading role in this should have gotten the TV treatment at least. As is I saw this on VOD and have to say was happily surprised by the fact this was way above the usual Brit indie stuff that that seems to get far more attention. Not your typical lads film, in fact this is girl power front and center with a lot of before they were famous faces.
After watching it I did find myself googling and read what went on behind the scenes. I feel for all the cast and crew and especially the writer director Paul Knight. All those efforts discarded to make way for the headlines of the 5 producers who committed tax fraud.
The story is thought provoking, the twists and turns keep it interesting. There are a couple of duff actors in it and the low budget restrictions are apparent in a few scenes but that does not stop it from not being a chore to sit through.
I would recommend this film if you are a huge Loose Women fan, soap fan or just like films that will make you talk about it afterwards for days to come. Not one that will be forgotten quickly.
Molly's Game (2017)
Ahead of the game
This film is as good as Jessica Chastain is pretty and Jessica Chastain is gorgeous... well impressed with this movie, had a real 'Goodfellas' feel to it.
Unbelievable true story which is told so well, great pace and solid cast did I mention Jessica Chastain is super hot in it?
If you are into your Poker games you will love this.
Below Her Mouth (2016)
Steamy lips
Didn't know anything about this before watching it apart from it sounded good, at one point I had to check to make sure I wasn't watching something this is a very saucy film, fair play Netflix for stepping up the game.
Anyway back to the film, it's your basic love triangle story but about two women that fall for each other, it's interesting and for obvious reasons easy to watch (I'd advise not to watch it while your mum is in the room, or anyone else if you get me)
Perfect Stranger (2007)
Shouldn't be a stranger to your viewing
Can't believe I missed this first time round but well done to Netflix for getting this on the books.
Really enjoyed this, solid story that keeps you guessing from the start to the finish then hits you with a great twist.
The Last Face (2016)
Palm to face
Very deep and meaningful story about the shocking things that are still are happening today, while this film has a very cool cinematic look and great acting it becomes very slow and about 30 minutes to long, the ending is good with a little twist which could easily be missed so pay attention.
The Circle (2017)
Square peg trying to fit in a round hole
Didn't know anything about this apart from it had Tom Hanks (who never makes a bad movie) and the chick from Harry Potter (which I have never seen any of them) the easiest way to describe this movie is to say it's like a sinister version of Apple that obsessed with power.
Decent story line that does a good job paint a picture of who's who and their backgrounds.
There is a good message to this film about how much we rely on technology and easy people get obsessed with new trends, I thought the film was good but not great, I think they could of gone a bit darker with the story but it took a long time to get to the dark bit then it was all over.
If there is nothing else on give it a go
Darkest Hour (2017)
Light at the end of the tunnel
Politics isn't really my strong point but I did really enjoy this, Gary Oldman is breathtaking it's almost like watching a fly on the wall documentary, great all round cast I was really impressed with Ben Mendelsohn as the King.
A solid moving story about a time when men had to stand up and be heroes.
The 5th Wave (2016)
Hit Girl fails to hit it out the park
Really enjoyed this, great story that keeps you hooked, Chloë Grace Moretz is on top form.
I don't think this had a massive budget but they done a good job with what they had.
This film was in the running for a high score but was a little let down by some of the action scenes being very dark to the point I couldn't see anything, still a great film that's worth a watch.
Overboard (2018)
oVERLONG
Haven't seen the original movie in many years but remember it being a fun movie.
Very much like the original the story is the same idea but this time the male forgets he's memory which works really.
Great cast with some funny moments and a really fun story.
It's a little on the long side but didn't feel like it.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Not Pulp Fiction more Pulp Fact
Massive Tarantino fan and always been fascinated by the Sharron Tate story so this was a long time coming but it didn't live up to my expectations.
For me it was an hour to long and in places felt scenes were added just to make the film as long as possible as Tarantino likes to do.
It kind of felt like the movie was a homage to Hollywood rather than concentrating on the story-line.
With that off my chest, I thought the story was really interesting and liked the different take on the iconic story of Sharron Tate.
The acting was solid by all and loved seeing the old movies stars pop up within the story but for me Brad Pitt absolutely nailed it and smashed he's role, every time he was on scene the movie come to life. Stunning performance by an amazing actor, 100% made the film he's own.
Verdict:
Far from Tarantino's best movie but Brad saves the day.
Ad Astra (2019)
Ad AStra needed to add some more
I was hoping I would like this a lot more than I did. Brad Pitt is my favorite actor and I love anything to do with space so as soon as I seen the trailer my expectations was through the roof.
I liked it but didn't love it, it had moments that I thought was visually stunning but I felt like it was a little too slow for me to fall in love with it.
I was hoping it would be more like Gravity but had the slow pace of Interstellar.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
EndGame or new game?
Fitting end to the Avengers in an entertaining span of 23 movies. Phase 4 is the new hope of the New Avengers.
