Texas Twister (2024)
The poster lie to you
This movie isn't about a tornado movie , but a guy who thinks that there's going to be a tornado. The movie is more of a psychological thriller with a guy who keep having dreams of a tornado and believes that its coming to him and his family. I found the movie to be misleading because don't show tornados on the poster if there's not tornados action to be found in this movie. Now, the psychological thriller could work if its title something else than what people think what its going to be. They also put religious in it with the main character think it has something to do with that, even though it made little sense. Most of the time it just the characters thinking that this guy is crazy and him keep going on about it. It makes the movie less enjoyable to watch And the ending is just the filmmakers trolling you.
Overall, this is the worst disaster movie that I ever watch.
Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986)
Watchable, but wasn't that good for a sequel
There's so much you can do for the franchise and this one is alright. The returning characters are now have to teach new recruits to become police officers. It feels like a rehash of the first movie, but instead the older characters are now the teachers of the newcomers. There's also a side plot with the villains which isn't that expanded on and isn't that interesting. The movie has the same type of humor as the previous movies which some work, but it basically the same type that gets old quickly. I found the movie to be enjoyable during the training scenes and the climax itself is pretty fun to watch the boat chase in it.
Overall, the movie is fun, but isn't that good compared to the first movie.
Captivity (2007)
I think the controversy is more interesting than the movie
Despite the controversy, this movie is really tamed compared to Saw and Hostal. The story is really generic and uninteresting, and a woman gets kidnapped by an unknown assailant for a generic reason. It's really predictable with the fails attempts to escape, and it is not anything too interesting that happened. The movie is not torture porn because there's only three scenes that have torture in it, and it's pretty tamed compared to the others' torture films out there. While it also does psychological torture, it isn't effective because there's a lack of build-up towards it and happened pretty quickly. Also, the movie gets pretty lame with a twist that is easily predictable and done so poorly. The climax is underwhelming and not that exciting at all.
Captivity is a really dull movie that doesn't bring anything new to the genre and is a lame film overall. Stick with the Saw movie.
First Blood (1982)
Effective action movie
I found this movie to be done really well on the execution. The first movie in the franchise shows how dark the movie is with Vietnam War veteran who snap after being mistreated by some cops and is on a manhunt by the cops. It really show how PTSD is a serious problem with him snapping and attacking anyone who try to harm him. The movie shows how he's not a bad guy, but a misunderstood guy who been through a lot in the war that he was in and how the cops treat him really badly after arresting him that cause him to snap in the first place. Sylvester Stallone does a great job playing as the character with his survival skill and giving the character personality in the movie that makes him memorable. Sam Trautman is his mentor who knows what he going through and try his best to get him to stop doing this and Richard Crenna does a great job with the performance he was given.
The action scenes are pretty great with Rambo survival skills against the people who is hunting him and the choreography is also great.
Overall, it does a great job on the serious topic it presented here.
No Escape (2015)
Suspenseful movie that falls into the middle of action movies
I found the movie to be entertaining to watch. The idea of escaping a city that is full of riots is a terrifying idea on how real it feels because there are riots in the past that are dangerous and violent with types of people who protest a current thing. It does a good job on building up with the riots start to happen and the suspense the family that they are in. The actual plot is pretty weak with the main character and his family trying to flee the country in order to survive and go to a current location. It's rather predictable and I already guess that the entire family will survive the entire movie. The characters themselves are pretty generic for the most part, but the movie contains pretty good actors in the movie who does a pretty good job with their performance in the movie.
I found the action scenes to be suspenseful on the situation that the are in and how they try their best to survive against the riots throughout the movie. It also shows how much damage they can cause to a city or town by showing how real can this movie can get.
Overall, it's a suspenseful and enjoyable movie to watch.
Antlers (2021)
Generic, but has some moments
I found this to be a pretty generic type of supernatural movie, but it has some moments. The story is the weakest part because it is rather generic with a teacher who suspects one of her students has some personal problems until she discovers the truth about what goes on in his house. It goes through the same tropes like any other supernatural movies and is rather predictable. But I do like how the boy is keeping two of his family members a secret with them acting strangely and bringing them food to them. I really like the atmosphere of the movie on how gloomy the setting is and fits in really well with the tone of the movie. I also like the build-up with the father changing into something deadly and the transformation he goes through. The reveal of what is going on isn't anything too surprising or unique, but I do like the hints of it. The ending itself is also generic too. The characters themselves do have some development to them, but some of them feel rather generic. I do think the special effects are done really well in this movie. I like the practical effects of the father changing into something else and is pretty graphic on how it happened. Also, the movie have a great practical effects on the demon, with looks really great and memorable on how they design it. The movie has a pretty great cinematography to it with its different shots throughout.
Antlers have a couple of good moments but are rather generic with their screenplay and script. It's a decent and watchable movie to check out.
Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985)
Fun sequel to the first movie
While I prefer the first movie, this one is still a enjoyable one. I like the continuation of the first movie with the characters doing their police job after their training. It still has it charm to it on how they do the comedy and the characters are still pretty fun. While some parts are rehash like the officer not doing a good job, but soon gets better throughout the movie. I do like how the movie tries to be different compared to the first movie and does a pretty good job on it. The movie itself is fun to watch throughout on how you don't take the movie serious. I found the plotline with the gang to be entertaining by showing them on how bad they are and the comedy they presented. The movie also has a couple of entertaining action scenes with that kung fu scene and the climax of the movie.
Overall, it's a fun sequel that you just need to have fun with it.
10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Suspenseful and interesting movie in the franchise
I found this to be a really well-done horror movie to the series. The story is interesting with a woman who wakes up in an underground bunker with two men who insist there's something dangerous up there. I really like the whole mystery over if what Howard said is true or he is just completely insane about what he says throughout the movie. Both statements have a point to them with evidence suggests that either he's true or not. I really like the psychological horrors with Howard acting deranged in current scenes of the movie and the build-up when he's going to snap. Also, I do like how there's people like this where they think the world is going to be in an apocalypse and something bad is going to happen. The movie also build-up towards the characters' relationship, which is done pretty well and is interesting to learn about them. The climax itself is both suspenseful and intense over the things that happened during it. Also, no spoilers are revealed in the movie. There's only three characters in the entire movie, and they work really well. Michelle is the main character who is brought to the bunker due to Howard saying that something is going on up there. I really like the character a lot with her being a smart character and her backstory she said later in the movie that give her some development. Mary Winstead does a great job playing as the character with her, giving her depth and character to her. Howard is the guy who brought her to his bunker and said that there's something going on. While it's a mystery on if he's right or not, I really like John Goodman performance as Howard by making him both interesting and deranged at the same time. He also gives out a lot of interesting dialogue throughout and has somewhat of a backstory to him. Emmett is another guy who lives in the bunker and also helps Howard out. I found him to be a memorable character with his personality and his build-up on realizing that something is suspicious about Howard. John Gallager Jr. Does a great job with his performance as Emmett.
10 Cloverfield Lane is a great and interesting movie in the series. I really enjoyed watching this movie and I highly recommend it.
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
It's a bizarre type of movie that is worth watching
While this movie has nothing to do with the source material, but if you ignore that element the movie is a interesting experience. The story is really complicated on how it handle itself with plot holes and things that don't make sense. I found the writing to be a complete mess on how the filmmakers even did the script for this movie. Is this originally a different movie before it was made into a Mario bros movie? The setting of Mushroom Kingdom looks like something from Blade Runner in this movie. While it looks nothing like it, it looks pretty good on how they build this set and the theme its going for. Another flaw with the movie is the tone on how the soundtrack sounds cheerful, but it doesn't match with it scenes it place into it. But I found the movie to be pretty fun with the bizarre nature of the movie and the action are entertaining to watch.
The acting itself is another thing to talk about. Bob Hoskins as Mario is a fine choice since he does look like him and his acting is decent for the most part. John Leguizamo as Luigi isn't good and I'm not convince that he's that character. This movie doesn't have a Princess Peach, but instead Princess Daisy for some reason. Her backstory is just weird at the opening of the movie and the character acts more like a love interest to Luigi. Dennis Hopper as King Koopa is another thing to talk about and is a weird actor choice for the character. He gives off a bizarre performance in the movie and it's pretty fun to watch on how he did his performance in it.
The goombas and Yoshi looks nothing like the video game counterparts, but the practical effects looks pretty good on how much work they put onto them.
Overall, it's a bizarre movie that worth checking out on what its going for and is a so bad, it's good type of movie.
Children of the Corn (2020)
Another complete failure of rebooting the series again.
I can't believe that this is the result of rebooting this movie. The story itself is a complete mess on how it handled itself and is poorly put together. I mean, the motive is pretty ridiculous, with then getting revenge on all of the adults due to them wanting to destroy their crops to receive crop subsidy. The movie makes us hate on the adults due to the opening and how all of them are complete jerks that do work but are poorly executed. It feels like there's a lack of build-up due to things happening way too quickly, like the cult is formed quickly and them getting all of the adults in a jail cell. There's no interesting things that happen in the movie and are pretty bland on how it does it. Also, the movie is easily predictable. The climax itself feels like it drags on too long and isn't that exciting at all. And the ending itself sucks a lot. I have nothing to say about any of the characters because most of them lack any development to them and aren't that interesting. And I found the acting to be poorly done on how no one can act in this movie. Also, there's a monster that appears that looks pretty bad due to the CGI and design of it. The movie contains pretty bad CGI effects in it.
Children of the Corn isn't the worst in the franchise, but it feels like the movie is rushing itself to finish it quickly and is poorly put together.
Meteorites! (1998)
Not bad, but is mostly dull for the most part.
Another forgettable made for TV disaster movie that wasn't that impressive. The story itself is rather generic and doesn't do anything interesting in it. It's your usual stuff with strange disaster that happen, the mayor refused to listen, and people studying stuff until find out the answer. There's also a couple of side plots that goes no where interesting and is easily forget about. The characters are mostly cliches that you see in other disaster movies out there and the acting is wooden. There is nothing memorable to even remember about this movie because its mostly stuff you see before.
The disaster scenes has some good explosion in it and shows the damage it can cause. But its mostly the same with each one of them.
Meteorites! Is a movie that is best forgotten on how dull it is.
Children of the Corn: Runaway (2018)
Good potential, but another bad Children of the Corn movie
It's better than Genesis, but it is far from a good movie. I do think it's interesting how they have one character from the original short story to be the star of the movie. The actual story is mostly her trying to live a normal life while trying to keep her past away from her son. I do like the idea of a past member trying to get away from the cult and try to start off fresh. But the results are done pretty poorly on how it was executed. There's not that much build-up towards her starting to lose herself, and the paranoid stuff happens pretty quickly. The movie gets pretty predictable with the stuff that happen and isn't that surprising. I do think it could have worked for a psychological horror movie, but it is not that effective enough. And the ending to be confusing and anticlimactic. The characters have good intentions but aren't executed well. Ruth is a main character who used to be a member of the cult but managed to escape from it. She has good intentions to be a flesh-out character, but her execution is poorly on how she feels one-dimensional and isn't that likable to hope that she finally gets a new life.
Children of the Corn: Runaway is slightly better, but it is a movie that is best forgotten.
Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
More enjoyable than the 2nd movie
I found this sequel to be more enjoyable compared to the previous movie. The story is interesting with the main character had to do task for a terrorist named Simon so he won't blow up more places. When we first meet John Mclane, he's not doing to well in his life with him become drunk and separated from his family. It does build up the character on how he have to set up his game in order to keep Simon for doing his plan. Also, he meets with Zeus Carver who Simon decides to have him in the is game with John. I do like the relationship with John and Zeus on how they don't like each others, but soon like each other throughout the movie. Both actors does a great job with their relationship in the movie. The villain actual have a connection with him that reveal in the middle of the movie and is interesting to learn about it.
The movie still does a great job with its action scenes on how suspenseful it is and the choreography fight is done really well. Also, there's a lot of destruction that happen in the city that shows how this is a serious threat.
Overall, it's a fun movie to rewatch again.
Children of the Corn: Genesis (2011)
The worst in the franchise.
This is even worse compared to the previous movie that I reviewed. This is the only movie that doesn't have any children as the main focus with exceptions in the opening, dream sequence, and the ending. The story is nothing interesting to talk about and is rather boring. It's mostly the characters who get lost, go to a house, notice something suspicious, and get trapped. I don't even know why they made this movie like this and add nothing new to the franchise. The whole supernatural force isn't that effective because it mostly forces the main characters to stay in the house for no reason and feels unnecessary. Also, it spends a lot of time with exposition dialogue that gets boring quickly and isn't anything too interesting to learn about. And the movie has an anticlimactic ending to it. I am going to skip the characters because all of them are rather boring and aren't that interesting to talk about. And the acting itself sucks.
Children of the Corn: Genesis is the worst compared to the previous movie. I do not recommend this movie at all.
Haunted Mansion (2023)
An alright attempt for another Haunted Mansion movie
I can't say this movie is better than the previous movie, but the results are alright. The story is standard with a group of different characters came to this mansion and try to figure out what going on. My biggest problem with the movie is that it feels too long for a 2 hour movie. What I mean is that current scenes feel like it drags on a little bit too long and a pacing is off on how things happen pretty quickly or too long. It feel like they could easily cut some parts out of the movie and some of it feels unnecessary to the main plot and will not effect it. The characters themselves do have depth to them and some has backstories. But the acting is hit or miss for the most part. Actors like LaKeith Stanfield, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jared Leto does a pretty good job in the movie and give the characters depth in it. But some of them feel like they are trying way too hard and overact in parts of the movie.
I do like the many references of the ride that you see throughout the movie and is pretty interesting. The visual effects looks pretty good on how the ghost look and the stuff that goes on in the mansion looks pretty cool looking. I also like the villain design of the movie that looks cool and pretty memorable.
Overall, this movie is a mixed bag of positive and negative all together.
Children of the Corn (2009)
Faithful, but an boring remake
I found this remake to a pretty boring for the most part. The story is pretty faithful to the original short story, which is interesting that they acutal did that. But it doesn't change the fact that it's poorly executed. There barely anything happened in the movie with the couple arguing with each others which gets annoying quickly, them wandering around the abandoned town, and Burt getting chased by the kids. I found no suspense or atmosphere to be found in this movie because it happened way too quickly and lacked any tension from the 1984 movie. Also, they add in random things like nightmares, which aren't that creepy at all. The movie itself feels like it drags on too long with its chase scenes, which feels too long for a short movie. While the climax itself is basically the short story ending, it could have been better. I found all of the characters to be pretty badly executed in this movie. Even the special effects aren't that impressive at all. But I do think the set design looks decent for the most part with it looking like an abandoned town.
Overall, the movie is a boring remake that is faithful but is badly executed.
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
Very entertaining movie that I watched.
I have a lot of fun watching this movie throughout. The movie itself does a great job being a spoof with the execution of it. It does a great job on the comedy it presented here and is very memorable when you first see it. I laugh at a lot of humor it presented here and its shows how it can have fun with it itself without being serious. Leslie Nielsen does an amazing job with the performance he does and such a funny guy throughout the movie. The other actors does a great job in the movie and are pretty memorable throughout. Also, the movie shows how random it can be with its humor it has in it.
Overall, it's a very entertaining movie to rewatched again.
Children of the Corn: Revelation (2001)
You can tell that they are running out of ideas for the franchise.
I don't know why they keep having the plot with the main character looking for one of their family members and discovering the cult. Because it gets tried some to have the same thing for three movies and adds nothing new to the franchise. It really shows how filmmakers are running out of ideas for the franchise and just come up with random ideas. There's really nothing interesting to be found in this movie because it's mostly the same thing but takes place in an apartment building. They try to have some backstories, but it the same compared to other in the franchise. The movie is not enjoyable at all, and the climax itself is anticlimactic. Do I need to say anything about the characters. Because some of them are just there for the body count and the ones who aren't isn't that interesting. Also, the movie uses some stupid stock sound effects you sometimes hear throughout the movie.
Overall, it is a really bland sequel that doesn't do anything new to the franchise and is best forgotten.
Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Pretty fun action movie to watch
While its not the strongest that I seen, it still a fun watch. The story is generic with a terrorist group attack a current spot while one guy have to stop them. It pretty predictable throughout and goes through the same tropes just like any action movies out there. The movie is build up pretty well with the terrorist going to strike and take the president hostage. I found the movie suspenseful with the amount of action scenes it presented here and its fun to watch those scenes. The characters themselves aren't the most flesh out and Mike Banning seem similar to John McClane from Die Hard. But the acting is done really well by Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, & Morgan Freeman. There is a lot of great special effects to be found in the movie like the destruction of the white house and the explosion you see throughout the movie. I found the cinematography to be done really well in the action scenes.
Overall, it's rather generic, but is a enjoyable movie.
Anna's Storm (2007)
It feels pretty flat for the most of the time
While not a bad disaster movie, this one isn't that memorable or enjoyable. It seems like these type of disaster movies like to use grieving of a deceased family member onto it itself. Which isn't a bad idea, but here they don't developed into it and the parts where the main character see her deceased son is barely use. It easily predictable with on who going to survive and the outcome of it. Also, the whole missing daughter plotline isn't that interesting because it feels like a afterthought and the results happen pretty quickly. The movie does try to do drama in it, but its your usual stuff you see in any movies out there. And it ends in a anticlimactic way.
I found the disaster scenes to be decent with a couple of good explosion in it and shows the damage it cause, but with limited budget to it.
Overall, it's a pretty forgettable movie.
Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return (1999)
Good potential, but the results is mediocre
It's better than the previous movie, but it is still not good. I do like how the movie is connected with the first movie with the return of the town and Isaac. Although it never explained how Issac possession is gone and survive it. The story itself isn't that interesting because it is mostly a young woman who goes back to the town and searches for her mother. That plotline is predictable and doesn't have that much to offer. I do like the scenes with Issac with his dialogue and actions he has throughout the movie. But the movie itself isn't that enjoyable because things happen pretty quickly and isn't that suspenseful at all. I found the climax to be the most disappointing I have ever seen from the franchise, and Issac fate is underwhelming. While the kills are graphic and contain pretty good practical gore effects. None of them are outstanding or bizarre compared to the previous movies.
Police Academy (1984)
80's movie that has charm to it
This is a example of a comedy that is enjoyable depend of the type of comedy you in too. I found the movie to be fun to watch on how you don't take it serious and to have fun with it. The story itself is creative with outcasts and randoms joining the police academy to become police officers. I works pretty well on the execution of it and the movie plays into their personality. The characters themselves are memorable with how each one of them are different and having something to them that give them charm to them. Also, the acting is done pretty well in the movie. I found the comedy to be a hit or miss with a couple of funny moments and lines in it with its slapstick humor and performance by the actors. While some of it doesn't age well due to when the movie was released. But it shows how the filmmakers have fun making this movie with it being a comedy.
Overall, it's a fun movie to watch.
Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998)
It barley does anything new with the franchise
For the 5th movie goes, this is a pretty bad movie. The story is kind of the same, but it isn't that similar compared to the previous movies. The movie tries to add something new, like the main character looking for her brother, and there's an adult leader in the cult. Other than that, the movie is mostly uninteresting because it doesn't do anything new with the franchise and is pretty dull throughout. Also, current things feel like they rush like sheriff, who knows something is going on, and even the adult leader feels like an afterthought. I don't even know what to take from this movie because it is another Children of the Corn movie that tries something new but ends up failing with itself. The climax itself is underwhelming and anticlimactic. I have little to say about the characters because none of them show any reason why should we feel for them. It barely does something new with the franchise and is overall a dull movie.
Children of the Corn: The Gathering (1996)
Watchable and a little bit better compared to the previous movie
It's not a bad movie, but it is still not good. The story try to do something different with the child preacher appearing less, and the children are changing due to a mysterious illness they got. I found the mysterious illness to be decent on how the children change into cult members due to it, and is build up is decent. Also, I found pretty good build up towards each of the death scenes that have decent tension to it. There's also a couple of ideas that could be expanded on, like the blood test and the character Rose could have more screen time because she knows what is going on around the town and gives an interesting backstory. Other than that, the movie itself feels like it rushing itself on how things happened pretty quickly, and even the climax feels rushed and is anticlimactic. Also, the nightmare scenes get pretty repetitive throughout. The characters themselves aren't the worst but are pretty bland. I kind of wish we could see more development towards June and why she is having these nightmares in the first place. It contains pretty good practical gore effects and is effective.
Children of the Corn 4: The Gathering is an alright movie that contains brutal kills and some interesting ideas, but isn't that good compared to the first two movies.
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Fun sequel, but doesn't beat the first movie
I found the movie to be fun, but isn't great compared to the first movie. The story is somewhat similar to the first movie instead of taking place on an airport. It goes through the same things like the previous movie and isn't that memorable. The highlight are the action scenes which are enjoyable to watch with the amount of suspense and tension to be found in the movie. It is fun to watch the character fighting against the villain and him trying to survive or save people. It also contains pretty good explosion to be found in it. Bruce Willis is still a great actor with his charisma and humor he has throughout the movie. I found the new characters aren't that good compared to the previous movie because most of them are somewhat similar to the one from the first movie and isn't that interesting. Even the villains aren't that memorable compare to the first movie villains.
Overall, it's a fun sequel to watch with a couple of people.
