White House Plumbers (2023)
Unexpected
I was expecting a serious take on Watergate. However I am not disappointed that it is a satirical look at what happened. I don't know about E. Howard Hunt. But I always thought G Gordon Liddy was a buffoon. And a psycho. (I read his book). So I am enjoying Justin's take on him. I was 19 years old when the hearings were happening. A cousin of mine who was in college at the time was very into it. Only later when the books started coming out did I start paying attention to what happened. Yes I would have preferred a serious series. But I am enjoying this. Not crazy about the person playing of Howard Dean.
So Help Me Todd (2022)
Love This Show
This is a fun show. Marcia Gay Harden and SkylarAstin have good chemistry. I can't imagine Geena Davis in the role of the mom. I am on my second watch of the first 9 episodes. It's a show about family with a law firm as the setting. The entire cast is enjoyable. Any role Harden takes on is memorable. Love the moments when Margaret and Todd are talking at the same time. (Brings back memories of Maddy and David arguing in the 1980's show Moonlighting.) I don't watch much regular tv. But this is a show I look forward to. I hope it's picked up for a second season. The show just makes me smile. A feel good silly show.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Inspired By/Based On
This series is not about the Vampire Series of novels by Anne Rice. I have only watched the first episode. I like it so far. But fans have been misled. The low ratings here are not valid. I do have some issues with the changes. But it is obvious this series is not for Anne Rice fans. Accept that and move on. I like Sam Reid as Lestat.
This series has a political agenda. But it is visually stunning. I am disappointed with the show runners point of view. But that does not take away from this being a good series. My biggest disappointment is it was not made clear that this series would be a reimagining of Rice's material.
Dark Shadows (2012)
Okay
I am a die hard fan who likes this film. I was 11 years old when I started watching the original series when it aired in 1966. It is not a bad film. But it is hard to believe Depp and Burton were fans of the original series. The film is somewhat of a disappointment but it is not as bad as some make it out to be.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994)
Don't Understand The Low Reviews
Saw this film in the movies when it was first released and loved it. Recently rewatched and I still think it is a good film. The only negative is Branaugh's performance. I am a fan of his. But not in this film.
Putney Swope (1969)
Not Great But Worth Seeing.
Pretty good satirical film. You can't review this with a 21st century mindset. Not brilliant but worth watching. I was too young to see it when it was originally released.
The Unforgivable (2021)
Pretty Good Remake
UK version was better. But this is pretty good. Not a Bullock fan so I didn't expect much. The UK version was a 3 part mini series. From what I remember this version sticks pretty much to the original story.
Nina (2016)
Atrocious Makeup Boring Movie
The high ratings must be from people unfamiliar with Nina Simone. The makeup looks like Saldana has bad skin. Saldana's acting is passable. But the film is just boring. Saldana's singing lacks the depth of Simone.
The Wonder Years (2021)
Pleasantly Surprised
As a big fan of the original series. I did not expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. I could relate to original series. And I can relate to the reboot. I am a 66 year old Black female. The negative reviews IMO is because the reboot is from an African American point of view. In general I don't care for reboots. But I am enjoying this one.
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1991)
Why?
Watchable but unnecessary remake. A vanity project I assume. And a chance for the Redgrave sisters to work together. Missing the suspense of the original.
The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990)
Not A Bad Film
I don't understand the hate for this movie. While I agree Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis were miscast I still enjoyed the movie. Smdh.
Exterminate All the Brutes (2021)
H
Hard to watch if you don't know the true history of the european (caucasians). It will offend those who believe caucasions have the right to rule the world. (There are people of color who believe this as well.) If you believe anyone not "white" does not deserve respect this is not the series for you. I came to understand many years ago "whites" don't think mistreating non whites is wrong. Non whites are beneath them. So it doesn't register that they are doing anything wrong. How dare we complain about it?
Fatale (2020)
Entertaining
Better than expected. Pleasantly surprised. I guess Hillary Swank needed the money.
The Underground Railroad (2021)
Torture To Watch
Boring and slow. The first 2 episodes and the last part of episode 9 were okay. I only finished the mini series because I started reading the book. Loving the book so far. This mini series is slow torture.
Dirty John (2018)
No One Us Innocent
Betty, Dan, Linda and the legal system are all culpable in this situation. Betty had her issues and what she did was wrong. But Dan was having an adulterous affair. Linda was in a relationship with a married man. Dan knew Betty was unstable. He chose to deal with her simply as an adversary. As if she was a stranger in a court case. Not a person he had been with for 16 years and the mother of his children. Everything Dan did and the court allowed him to do only escalated the situation. I only knew the name Amanda Peet before this. She deserves an Emmy for this role. I am a fan of Meredith Baxter's portrayal. But Amanda's got under my skin and made me emotional. A tragedy for everyone involved. Betty was up front and out of control with her behavior. But Dan probably was just as bad. He only did it in a different way. Betty did not have the right to take their lives. But no one was innocent in this situation. Season 2 is just as good as season 1. Looking forward to season 3.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Okay movie.
Not having read the book thought the movie was okay. I figured out what was going on pretty easily. From reading one of the reviews I agree some things left out of the book should have been included.
Them (2021)
Obviously Over Some Folks Heads
I loved the first episode. Episodes 2 through 4 were ok. Was on the fence about finishing the series. Then I watched episode 5 and binged the rest of the series. The series is just over some folks heads. Painful and infuriating to watch.
The Serpent (2021)
Could Have Been Great But...Not A Fan Of Non Linear
I read Thomas Thompson's Book Serpentine about this case in the 1980's. Enjoyed this mini series. Did not like the non linear telling of the story. Too many movies and series are doing this. It is a turn-off for me. Tahar Rahim is superb in the role. May reread Thomas's book.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
Ginny Is Annoying
Good show. The only comparison to Gilmore Girls is the show is about a mother and daughter. Ginny's character is just annoying. If it weren't for her I would give the series a higher rating.
The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021)
Audra!
I give it a 7 out of 10 because of Audra's outstanding performance and her vocals. She captures the essence of Billie Holiday. Not a fan of Lee Daniels so I didn't expect much. Not great but okay.
I Care a Lot (2020)
Bad Ending
Great entertainment that went over some peoples heads. An indictment of greed and the health care industry. Would have rated it a 10. But did not like the last 20 minutes.
Tenet (2020)
Torture
I only finished it because I paid for it. I like cerebral and sci-fi movies and series. But this movie was uninteresting. I even looked up the plot and that was no help. I had no interest in trying to understand what was going on after about 30 minutes. I just wanted it to end. 2 hours plus wasted time.
American Skin (2019)
Low Ratings Not Deserved
Low ratings because a Black man is seeking revenge. This movie is not a masterpiece. But it is a good movie.
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Loved It
A masterpiece! But it is slow. Wish I had seen it in the theater. Maybe one day I will.
Family Plot (1976)
Underrated
One of my fav films of all time. I watch whenever it is in TV. Bruce Dern, Barbara Harris and William Devane are at their best in this film.
