Balmaseda was one of them. The mystery is about to be unveiled, thanks to the discovery of a terrifying 8mm film shot by the sect in 1932. These images plunge the crew in the middle of a drama where Steven is another victim of the sect. The keys to the mystery are this 8mm film, a video that Steven shot the night he was attacked - in an abandoned mansion that belonged to the Sect, and a mysterious old man that Steven met and who knows more than he pretends... As time runs out for Steven and his girlfriend, the crew must find the answer to supernatural events that started 60 years ago but are still very much present. For the Black Door is among us and the gate they opened to hell has never been closed...

After initially feeling the request unreasonable considering the circumstances, Gene agrees on what he considers compassionate grounds for Malcolm. Through it all, Gene has to deal with: what he thinks Liz's return means, which he, deep in his heart, hopes is a reconciliation; the advice of his overbearing parents, George and Gisha, and of his best friend, dance instructor Herbert; and cantankerous ex-pat Brit Malcolm himself, who initially does not want Gene around, but who ends up relying and confiding in the one person who is there for him during his own time of need, especially as he deals with a secret he does not want Liz of all people to know.

Meanwhile, Monica, often left to her own devices, is a solitary girl whose primary fascination and focus is Catholicism, most specifically its rituals and symbols. As such, Monica wants more than anything to go back to her old Catholic school, located miles away, rather than attend her new secular school, and be one of the guardian angels in the church's upcoming processional. Despite her preoccupation with religion, Monica is no saint as she does what it takes to get her wish. Through stealing a pair of angel wings from the church, the wings which are part of a costume for the processional, Monica meets a homeless, seemingly crazy but extremely devout woman named Mary. Although Monica has ulterior motives for initially wanting to meet Mary, Monica becomes absorbed in Mary's daily ritual. In coming to understand why Mary does what she does, Monica comes to her own realization that there may be more important things in life than what was her primary focus.
