When news spreads and other cures occur, the gang collects much money, but gradually, each member, influenced by the Patriarch and the country atmosphere, changes for the better. The Frog becomes a widow's adopted son, while the Dope falls in love. When Rose almost falls for a millionaire, Tom overcomes his murderous jealousy and, renouncing his past, declares his love. After the Patriarch dies, Tom and Rose marry.

At the lodge, everything is explained to the satisfaction of all but Jessica.

Sybil, the wife of David's friend Herbert, has just has a row with her husband because he wouldn't buy her a new hat. So she takes their three children and hides in David's home, hoping to throw a scare into her husband. Now David tries to take care of the kids, hoping to forget his own troubles. Herbert phones David that he is coming over, but David tells his friend he has the measles. Meanwhile, Sybil's kids have gotten sick from eating too much taffy. So David calls Betty's father, who is a doctor. Betty comes over with her father, and David cooks up a scheme with the doctor to quarantine the house so that Betty will have to stay and help him take care of the children. Herbert arrives and chaos ensues when he discovers his wife and kids are there. Eventually, things get straightened out and David regains Betty's love.

When Germaine, in her negligee, delivers a pipe to Gerald's room, he proposes; Fenton suggests that he take Germaine, leaving Claire and Gerald to go their way; but Smith, the showgirl's admirer, tries to claim her and is beaten by Gerald, who effects a reconciliation between the Fentons and claims the girl he loves.

Released on bail, her brother Val in an altercation shoots Snow Devil, a police spy; and trying to cross the border, he is caught in a blizzard. Flaherty is sent to intercept him but is drugged by the girl's father; Jen, however, braves the storm and delivers his dispatch. Flaherty later arrests Val on the murder charge, but the dying confession of his friend, Pierre, clears Val; and the lovers are happily reunited.
- In order to conduct a secret dalliance with Mrs. Dathis aboard his former yacht, Augustus Billings uses the name "Johnson" and inscribes a photograph of himself with his assumed name. Mrs. Dathis' jealous husband later tears the photograph and only the curly black hair remains with the inscription "Johnson." Billings' mother-in-law, Mrs. Batterson, and his wife investigate Billings' explanation of his absence. Billings accompanies them to Mexico where supposedly he had been called to look after recently acquired oil properties. Billings takes them to a property owned by an intimate friend, but the property has been sold to a man named Joseph Johnson, who is aboard the same ship to Mexico as Billings, his wife and mother-in-law, as well as a revenge-seeking Mr. Dathis. Also on board are Francis Faddish and his daughter Leonora, who is to become the bartered wife of Johnson. Johnson knocks out the jealous Mr. Dathis, who has been searching everywhere for the curly-haired philanderer. After Johnson mistakes Billings' wife for his own bride-to-be, Billings tricks Johnson into a declaration of marriage with Mrs. Batterson. Billings is therefore relieved of the mother-in-law who interfered with his marital happiness.
- Spinster sisters Sophronia and Angelica Pennington of Massachusetts refuse to meet Dolores, the bride of their nephew Jack, because she formerly was an actress. After Dolores receives word that Jack died at the front in France, she moves in with Gloria Grey, who barely supports herself by giving singing lessons. Soon Gloria's money dwindles and her creditors become threatening. When Dolores learns that she will inherit $5,000 from Jack's estate, she refuses to accept it out of pride, but Gloria convinces Dolores that they should go to Pennington Manor with their identities switched. Gloria impresses the aunts when she says that her godmother is a duchess. She and Jack's brother Steven fall in love, and when he is notified to report to naval duty, he proposes that they marry immediately. They then learn that Jack is alive. When Jack finds out that his wife was about to marry his brother, he starts to leave brokenhearted, but he sees the real Dolores and matters are straightened out.
- King Serge IV of Molvania (Menjou) comes to Manhattan to conduct business with Arthur Trent (Kilgour), but instead goes to Coney Island, where he meets Gladys Humphreys (Love) and John Rockland (Shaw). John, not knowing the king's royal identity, invites him to his home at Little Falls, New Jersey. The king falls in love with Gladys, but Trent catches them in a compromising situation, and blackmails the king into completing their business deal. The king leaves the United States and Gladys forever.
