Its distinctive theme song "Thank You Very Much For Your Kind Donation", signaled the beginning of the 24 hour fund-raiser, broadcasting live fun, silliness, pranks with local and international superstars and viewers making complete fools of themselves in regional centers around New Zealand. Telethon 1976 raised $1.6 million for The Child Health Foundation.
- On the 5th July 1975, Telethon, a 24-hour live television spectacular aimed at securing donations from viewers for a charitable cause, launched New Zealand's second channel (TV2 South Pacific Television) and raised $593,878 for the St. John's Ambulance. The signature theme music for donations and totals "Thank you very much for your kind donation!" was cemented in the minds of viewers, participants and celebrities alike for future telethons.
