- Focuses on life and the environment in both the Arctic and Antarctic.
- Series exploring the natural history of Antarctica.
- This large format film explores the last great wilderness on earth. It takes you to the coldest, driest, windiest continent, Antarctica. The film explores life in Antarctica, both for the animals that live there and the scientists that work there.

- Narrated by Donald Sutherland, this thrilling, feature-length documentary chronicles the brave group of scientists on board the Sedna IV as they explore the Earth's most fascinating and isolated continent.
- Shackleton and Scott were men with a common goal: the South Pole. However, divisions between them grew as jealousy and intrigue intensified their rivalry. The consequence of their polar exploits is as shocking and fascinating now as it was during that closing phase of the age of exploration. This documentary draws upon a wealth of historical knowledge, and investigates the social setting and psychology of these men who dramatically, and fatally, pushed the limits of human endurance. Their amazing individual exploits marked them for greatness, but whose memory and mark on history will survive in the new millennium? Rivals for the Pole seeks to answer this question as well as setting the historical record straight on Shackleton and Scott.
- Ice is one of the strangest, most beguiling and mesmerising substances in the world. Full of contradictions, it is transparent yet it can glow with colour, it is powerful enough to shatter rock but it can melt in the blink of an eye. It takes many shapes, from the fleeting beauty of a snowflake to the multi-million tonne vastness of a glacier and the eeriness of the ice fountains of far-flung moons. Science writer Dr Gabrielle Walker has been obsessed with ice ever since she first set foot on Arctic sea ice. In this programme she searches out some of the secrets hidden deep within the ice crystal to try to discover how something so ephemeral has the power to sculpt landscapes, to preserve our past and inform our future.
- The polar caps have the most extreme seasonal contrasts, growing and melting vast ice masses, so wildlife adapts by annual migrations. The majority of Antartica is a vast barren permafrost. Only 3% of the coast and peninsular peaks are where life migrates to in the spring, for a short fertile summer, attracted by rich supplies of krill and fish. Only the Emperor penguin males breed 4 months in winter 100 miles inland. The Arctic has a more complete fauna which migrates back North from the continent. Here, the Polar bear is threatened because global warming defrosts its seal hunt platform ice too fast.

- Inspired by ideas about nuclear war, a theory that the Earth was encased in ice 650 million years ago has gained popularity in the science community. This program explains how this condition came about, how it ended, the impact on the evolution of animal life and presents the evidence for these conclusions.
- Instead of looking at a geological feature and the convergence of mechanisms that created it, this program uses a different format; looking at one mechanism, glaciers, and the diverse effects they cause.
- The unique geological conditions that make Krakatoa and it's successor, Anak Krakatau, extraordinarily explosive and, despite its remoteness, dangerous are explained.
- The dispute between John Muir and Josiah Whitney over how the Yosemite Valley formed is settled with a 200 million year long story more complex then either imagined.
- Bruce visits a Russian Artic Circle village. In Norway, Bruce visits Lapland, where the Samen people still practice ancient reindeer herding. Finally he board a ship to Spitsbergen, the northernmost 'inhabited' European territory, extremely inhospitable but rich in natural resources.
- Following in the footsteps of a scientific explorer who has become all but lost to history, Neil charts the remarkable story of William Speirs Bruce, one of Britain's greatest, but least-known, explorers. Bruce set out to conquer Antarctica, not for imperial glory, but to advance scientific knowledge in an era when exploration had become harnessed to national prestige.
- Timeshift reveals the history of the frozen continent, finding out why the most inhospitable place on the planet has exerted such a powerful hold on the imagination of explorers, scientists, writers and photographers.
- EARTH FROM SPACE is a groundbreaking two-hour special that reveals a spectacular new space-based vision of our planet.
- The British-Canadian scientists party boards a ship to follow a mega iceberg broken off from a Greenland glacier. It lives two years, so who so long and what gets to it eventually? Spectacular but also precarious is the surprisingly numerous population of polar pears who swim to it and stay on the iceberg quite a while during the absence of continuous ice on Artcic land.
- Scientists reveal how a gigantic volcanic eruption on a small Indonesian island wreaked global havoc in the 13th-century causing the Little Ice Age.
- 201859m7.1 (11)TV EpisodeHelen reveals how cold has shaped the world around us and why frozen doesn't mean what you think it does. She meets scientists pushing temperature to the limits of cold, driving technologies such as superconductors.
