- Rupa (Zeenat Aman) grew up being cursed as "unlucky" in her birth village. Her mother died during childbirth, then a kitchen accident leaves half her face disfigured. This is an artistic exploration of beauty and disfigurement, society's values, and, more importantly how a girl, teenager, and bride was treated during the times. Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor), the stereotype male engineer, falls in love with Rupa, who has a divine singing voice and the unscarred left cheek. When he sees the scarred cheek after marriage, he heads off into a tizzy and continues nightly dalliance with his mistress--the beautiful cheek. Little does he realize that his wife and mistress are two faces of the same person.

- Collegian Ajay Sharma was born on 2 April 1968 and lives in Bombay with his widowed mom Asha. He is friendly with fellow-collegian Raj Sinha, from a wealthy family. Ajay often gets beaten up by goons and Raj gets beaten up by his girlfriend Madhu. After they graduate from college, Raj's maternal uncle asks Ajay to bring his birth certificate so he can make his passport and find work for him in a department store in Canada. Ajay goes home to look for his birth certificate, but is unable to locate it. His mother makes a show of helping him, but instead tears a document and throws it away. Ajay puts the document together and finds out that his real name is Ajay Malhotra and that his father, Dr. Ravi Malhotra, is still alive, serving a life sentence in prison for killing a patient and stealing the organs from the body. Ajay questions his mother and finds out that his dad was framed by the hospital owner, Rai Bahadur. He and Asha meet Ravi in prison and swear to avenge his humiliation. He and Raj then set out to collect evidence, unaware that Raj's dad, Dr. Sinha, was himself involved in Ravi's false conviction and will not hesitate in joining forces with Rai Bahadur to eliminate all possible evidence, and if necessary kill both Ajay and Asha.

Somen returns home, convinces his mom initially to approve of Kajri, and is pleasantly surprised to find that even his dad has given his approval. On the day of the marriage, Somen's world is turned upside down when his dad accuses Kajri of being a woman of ill repute as well as an unwed mother. The question remains: Are Bhushan's allegations true, and if so, will Somen accept Kajri now, or will he reject her and marry Kedar's daughter?
- Arjun Yadav return from the city after completing his studies to get settled in his village with his family consisting of his mother Devi Chaudaran, his older brother Amrit and sister. - The Munim (Clerk) in Ranimaa's family lives with his son, Kaushal and daughter, Madhavi. After he passes away, Ranimaa brings up both children as her own, along with her only son, Rajesh. Shortly thereafter, in a boating accident, Kaushal passes away, leaving behind a devastated Madhavi, Rajesh, who blames himself for his death, and Ranimaa. A few months later, Rajesh gets married to Bhanu and she moves in with them. Bhanu dislikes Madhavi and would like her out of the way, she goes to the extent of accusing her of having an affair with her husband. Under pressure, Madhavi goes to kill herself, and is rescued by a young man named Moti. Rajesh likes Moti and would like him to marry Madhavi, to which he agrees. After the marriage, Madhavi bids adieu to Ranimaa, and Rajesh, and moves in with Moti. What Madhavi does not know that Moti had an agenda and an ulterior motive for marrying her, and it looks like she has been dumped from the frying pan into the fire.

At the castle, Dayal Singh is still hunting for the treasures of the Maharaja, whom he murdered years ago along with his brother Sultan Singh (Prem Chopra). When the Maharaja was murdered, his son Dewan Ranbir Singh (also Amitabh Bachchan) hid the treasure, for which Dayal Singh tried to murder him. What is the link between Ranbir Singh and his look-alike Lal Singh, and will Dayal Singh ever find the treasure?

When Balwant hears about this, he too goes to Bombay, and does locate Karan and Naina. Karan is relieved to see his dad, but his relief soon turns to disbelief, as Balwant instructs him to let go of Naina, as he himself has come as an agent of the Thakur, not as his father.

Unfortunately Chander suffers from memory loss and is able to retain only the word, 'Chand' short for Chandni so much that Henna and her loved ones starts to call him Chand. Meanwhile Henna starts to fall in love with Chand and their marriage are arranged only to invite the wrath of police officer Shahbaaz Khan who himself has already marry twice and now wants to marry Henna as the Shariat law state that an individual can marry four times. Ironically on the day of Chand and Henna wedding he manages to regain his memory and confesses his Hindu identity to the community thus Khan Baba decides to make all arrangements to send him back to Hindustan. Before Chand can cross the Pakistan border he is apprehend by Shahbaaz Khan only to prove to be a traitor send down by the Indian Government to spy on the Pakistanis.
- One of the employees of Vijay's parents, Babu, is sentence to a long jail term for killing them. In hot pursuit to avenge the death of his parents Vijay wait until Babu is release from jail and confronts him. It is this confrontation that will change Vijay's life as Babu confides to him that he was framed for the murder of his parents; this then lightens up a man-hunt for the real perpetrators of this crime.

Then instead of disposing of Jaya, he is asked to make friends with him, so as to benefit Masterji, and he does so. But when he ovehears Masterji and Jaya of inciting communal violence, he decides to sabotage their plans. Angered at this, Masterji orders the death of Vicky at any cost. Vicky has nowhere to turn to, except to live in fear for the rest of his life, as sooner or later Jaya and Masterji's men will track him down.

When Haji goes through the file he finds that the conspiracy involves big name politicians, and he decides to confront one of them. He does so, and is killed, but after leaving the file in a secure location. The big-wigs hire two friends, Veeru and Akbar, to locate the file for a fee, which they do. Then they find out that they have virtually turned over the country to extremists, and decide to repent for their actions by recovering the file and handing it to proper authorities for disposal. What they do not realize is that there seems to be no "proper authority" for dealing with such wrong actions, and it appears that everyone is involved in this deep conspiracy to make money for themselves. The two hapless friends now realize the situation they are in, and must prepare themselves and their loved ones against the onslaught that will surely wipe them out from this world.
